It was mentioned tonight Steve Davis was 36 years old on New Years Day.
The day he was born Celtic went to Ibrox and won 2-1.
Celtic played a makeshift side that day with Murdo MacLeod as sweeper and Brian McClair in midfield.
Judas missed a first half penalty before Cooper scored to put Rangers 1-0 up at half time.
In the 1st minute of the second half, Judas scored with a header after a great cross by McGarvey.
McClair scored the winner with a shot from the edge of the box.
I remember the game well but I didn't visit Ibrox until later on that year in a 3-0 defeat.
The 1985 New Year game wasn't on the T. V because of a strike, I think.
But you can now watch the highlights on YouTube.
I only watched it for the first time tonight.
It's on for 12 minutes but the quality is poor.

Hi Buzz Bomb came across a cracking photo of your mum with you and your young brother today, I think you would be about 12, don’t know where it was taken .

03 Mar 2021 21:48:59
I will need to tell my mum Oldkilly.
I think it could be my cousin Stephen’s Communion.
I remember Karen’s Communion.
It was the day Dundee Utd won the league in 1983,
And Celtic came from 2-0 down at Ibrox to win 4-2.

Reading on a few sites about ben davies and the possibility of him being loaned out next season when all the big guns come back, my question would you want him now?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

03 Mar 2021 17:08:06
No! We need people who will be here 3 years from now not short term loans unless they are young and can be signed for a longer period.

Agree2 Disagree0

03 Mar 2021 19:57:31
I agree about trying to avoid more loans unless it's an emergency. Over the years we have went through some amount of 'traffic' - especially in long-term problem defensive areas repeatedly; so I hope the new manager builds a team of committed permanent signings.

03 Mar 2021 20:21:05
If he has the option to buy then yes. If not then no.

Afternoon ED 007 Howe had been contacted seems to be interested but could be waiting for other options maybe first? Some of the options are distancing themselves from the Celtic job. And names not so much being mentioned at the start are coming out more Pedro71 still seems to think Keane you have said Keane is what uve heard but not sure if true are u still hearing Keane or not?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I said the other week that Roy Keane is either in the running for the job or he's been advising DD.}

03 Mar 2021 14:37:27
If you were someone looking to get back to work would you not be advising against everyone to get the job haha.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - DD will be taking advice from a lot of people in his circle.}

03 Mar 2021 14:45:04
Who told you that? Why would Keane be advising on a Celtic appointment? Keane in managerial terms is a dinosaur and failure. If we are relying in him then we are screwed.

Agree1 Disagree0

03 Mar 2021 15:03:46
what a stupid cement from you. Roy keane knows the game very well been there and done it at the very highest level and won everything at the highest level. and would have good advice on people he would know from the game also he has been involved in the elite scene in football for his whole carer so you comment is completely stupid.

Agree3 Disagree0

03 Mar 2021 15:57:40
If we were looking for a midfield general, no better. For a manager, no chance. He was a failure at management has his style is consigned to history, rightly or wrongly. Are you being a bit sentimental about him? Its not stupid to question why we are talking to a ex manager who failed. Or is it because he's Irish? The Irish Post also ran a story why he woukd never be a great manager. Was thst stupid too?

Agree2 Disagree0

03 Mar 2021 16:14:46
Am with you magic loved him as a player but never a manager.

I really hope not, as he would be every bit as bad as Lennon.

04 Mar 2021 11:26:18
If there was any truth in the Howe rumour, which I doubt, if he was interested and obviously out of work he would be able to accept or reject. Hopefully they are discussing terms and hammering out who buys the players now with Lawell getting to fornication. I woukd love to see Howe in NOW to have time to assess the squad and start the search for the 8 players we probably need in time to not make another arse of CL qualification.

Bobby "Buzz Bomb" Lennox played his first game for Celtic 59 years ago today.
Bobby played for Celtic 599 times in all competitions and scored an amazing 301 goals.
Only Jimmy McGrory has scored more goals for Celtic in our history.
I had the pleasure of talking to Bobby once and he was a Gentleman.
It was at an Irish night in Saltcoats, the night St. Johnstone won the Scottish Cup at Celtic Park in 2014.
I mentioned to him he scored the first goal I had ever witnessed as a Celtic fan.
It turned out to be his 300th goal for Celtic and only his 4th goal from a penalty kick.
He remembered the game because George Best played for Hibs and Bobby mentioned that we beat Hibs 5-0 in the Scottish Cup a few weeks later.
Bobby also scored in that game which turned out to be his last goal for Celtic.
Celtic went on to win the 1980 Scottish Cup Final in his last ever game in our famous Green and White Hoops.
A total Celtic legend Bobby Lennox.

Remember being at a JFK supporters club function up in Scone Perth a few years ago. Big Aitken, McStay and Bobby Lennox were there. Had a wee chat with Bobby and got a photo with him. After, said it's a pleasure to meet you Bobby! No, no, he says, it's a pleasure to meet you! Very humble man, and treasure that photo to this day.

I just got the feeling from him that nothing was a problem.
Big Billy McNeill would also have been 81 years old today.
Bobby must’ve made his debut for Celtic on Billy McNeill’s 22nd Birthday.

Many years ago we nipped into 'Bobby's Bar' in Saltcoats to see if we could catch a glimpse of the legendary lion - but to no avail.
Later in the day we were walking through a park and there he was jogging, in training gear, keeping fit before the new season.
He still took the time to chat and accept our best wishes with great humour and appreciation. A true Celtic Great.

Jock Stein's first game in charge was in March 1965 in a 6-0 victory away to Airdrie.
Jock started his managerial career at Celtic Reserves in 1957.
He was in charge of future Lisbon Lions Billy McNeill, John Clark and Bobby Murdoch.
In his first season the reserves won the cup by defeating Rangers 8-2 on aggregate.
Jock Stein was then appointed the Dunfermline manager in March 1960.
Dunfermline were struggling and they hadn't won a league game for 4 months and were only 2 points from the bottom of the league.
But Big Jock won his first 6 games in charge and saved the club from relegation.
The following season, Jock guided Dunfermline to the first ever Scottish Cup triumph by beating Celtic 2-0 in a replay.
In the next season Dunfermline reached the Quarterfinals of the Cup Winners Cup and they finished a very respectable 4th in the league Championship.
Jock Stein was eventually appointed the manager of Hibs after previously rejecting their offer.
Hibs had a brilliant team in the 1950s but they narrowly avoided relegation the season before Stein took over.
Jock was only at Hibs for one year before joining Celtic.
But he left Hibs with still their best win ratio of any manager in their history with 62%.
In his last game in charge, Hibs managed to beat Rangers in the Quarterfinals of the 1965 Scottish Cup.
Which later would turn out to be significant because a couple of months later Jock Stein would help win Celtic the 1965 Scottish Cup by beating his old club Dunfermline 3-2 in the final.
It was the first major trophy Celtic had won since the 1957 league cup final massacre.
Before Jock Stein became our manager, sports journalist Archie McPherson insisted Celtic wouldn't appoint Jock Stein as our manager because he was a Protestant.
In the previous 77 years in our history, Celtic only had 3 managers who were all Catholics.
Archie's claims turned out to be false because Celtic appointed Jock Stein as our new manager.
Everybody knows Jock Stein's record was remarkable, which included our first 9 titles in a row.
Our Big Jock's guidance, Celtic were very successful in Europe, including winning the Big Cup.
And reaching 21 out of 22 domestic cup finals in his first 11 years in charge is an amazing record.
Celtic actually reached the league cup final before his arrival, so Celtic actually reached 22 out of a possible 23 domestic finals.
Celtic are an Amazing club who were managed by an Incredible Man, Jock Stein.

Buzz I don't know where or how he got it but my uncle has a handwritten letter on Hibernian headed notepaper from Jock Stein, it was sent to parkhead basically saying once he ties up a few loose ends he will be with Celtic.

That’s interesting A. glasgow. green.
Because Jock Stein told Hibs on January 31st that he was joining Celtic but he wouldn’t leave until they found a replacement.
After Hibs beat Rangers on March 5th in his last game,
Jock Stein found his replacement with Dundee manager Bob Shankley,
Who was the brother of Liverpool legend Bill Shankley.

In 1957 my mate and I wrote a letter to Mr 'McGlory' telling him how much we would love to visit 'Paradise' and much to our surprise we received a reply inviting us to the pre season first team v reserves match. No exotic friendlies then!
Jock Stein showed us round Celtic Park and introduced us to various players including a very young Billy McNeill. Before the match we were inside with the players watching such as Charlie Tully, Bertie Peacock, Bobby Collins, Dick Beattie etc etc playing snooker. ( The 50s equivalent of a warm up I suppose! ) .
It was all a blur, but two very happy wee boys went home Celtic fans for life.
I vaguely remember telling Bobby ( Lennox ) about it and he was green with envy!
Now there's irony for you!

I had a similar experience cokey in about 1990/ 91 season.
Me and a friend were doing a project for school and we were invited to Barrowfield to watch the players train.
And then into the front entrance of Celtic Park to interview the players.
It was a project about the Glasgow clubs.
We never received a reply from Rangers, probably due to the name of our school.
It was a good experience to talk to our heroes.
