Is it just me of is big John Hartson turning into rent a quote? After his complete U turn regarding RD he is now saying that Sam Allidice should walk away. He then goes on to say he is never met the guy but in his opinion it's time for a change! John you were a top player for us but you are hopeless at football analysis! Please shut your pie hole, even just for a week!

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Hartson has been on my 'Best Ignored' list for a while now but I nearly spewed on the floor when I read today:

'That was my opinion too when I was doing my column for the biggest and best selling newspaper in the country, the Scottish S*n.'

Who would talk like that during an interview?}

03 Mar 2015 19:13:16
He is just a big bag of hot air, who rants about things that he is not educated enough to comment on.

Great player for celtic, there is no denying that. But this is the man who almost signed for the rotten mob prior to celtic and he seems to forget that

Every one makes a mistake a lot of fans on here ridiculed RD what is the difference? OK he was on national papers doing it but at least he has admitted he was wrong

Note for Ed:
Can you please clarify or remember this, years ago our fans sang a song at CP. It always stuck in my mind, but I never knew the title or the song.
After a bit of digging around the internet, I think I have cracked it.
If I`m correct it was ( the Holy Ground ) by the Clancy brothers & Tommy Makem.

Great song and would bring back fantastic memories to hear it sung again at CP. Times when my Dad and I went to the games together.

Sorry its a bit long winded
Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - It's on the Holy Ground of Glasgow Celtic LP from 1967, that's the first place I heard it - it must be about 35 years ago my uncle gave me his copy of it. I can't remember who sang it on the LP though. Guys like Tim and Green Jhedi will probably know more about it than I do, they're a lot older than me (wasntme)

03 Mar 2015 18:17:36
Thanks Ed . I had a look at the LP and there are some great songs on it.
Not that I was to impose on the Green Brigade but as I said before, would love to hear more of the old songs mixed with the current ones.

Thanks again.

ED007 this "auld yin" is on the case my memories of the song are by the Clancy Brothers and the Dubliners, although many other artists recorded it, I sang it with gusto with 10,000 others in the old jungle during many a european night, this will make you laugh. the chorus "Fine girl you are" I always thought was Irish Gaelic, now for the boring bit, I think the term "Holy Ground" refers to an area in County Cork maybe Green Jhedi can confirm this as he is older than me (sorry GJ)

Great tune guys, a classic, I remember my dad singing it many moons ago.
Love to hear it getting sung in paradise, 60 thousand people, makes the hair on the back of my neck stand just thinking bout it.
Great shout cprs1.

I think it might have been a red light district in Cork a while back .I doubt any of the posters here were around back then .

There are a number of versions of this song, including one or two Welsh versions .
However it is usually thought that the song comes from Cobh Co. Cork, one of the busiest ports in Ireland for people leaving to go to America especially from famine time onwards . A" red light district " has been muted but I am sure most people would discount any such place in Holy Catholic Ireland .
Anywhere there are lines in it which refers to writing letters to the woman I love telling my thoughts . It's likely that the song is about sailors away working and missing their wives and families .

Does anyone think Scepovic will get a run of games? i'm of the opinion if given a few games, potentially could be consistent up front.

Been with you all along on this one but starting to feel like a broken record mate. His overall game is better than JG and LG imo. Although I have to concede that's from the little that we've seen in a Celtic shirt. Good record in the Spanish second flight. Esentially he mustn't be doing much in training and I now have at least 90% trust in RD. I think the kind of striker we need would be somebody who can have a go individually. Like GMS but with goals. A lad I suggested last season was Emoh Ezekiel from Standard. He ended up going to the UAE somewhere but noticed he's back at standard. Terrifyingly quick and skillfull but knows his way to goal. If it turns out JG ain't staying, I think Scepovic should certainly have been given more game time. I know he almost didn't want to sign bit I still feel for him a bit.

Think you could be right. Seems to be scoring a few in the development squad although wasn't there yesterday so could be a starter tomorrow night if griffiths isn't fully fit

Always difficult when a team are winning to change things but I think the players have given their all recently and tomorrow is maybe a chance to rest 2 or 3, I'd like to see him Scepovic, Wakaso & Henderson given a start.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Mar 2015 18:11:56
I think his problem is that RD and his team see his work rate day in and out at training. If RD thinks he is fast or fit enough then I think he would get a shout to start or at least come off the bench.
If we remember Scepovic really did not want to come to us from the get go. he was willing to sign for another team until it went pear shape.

Saw some of his goals on youtube for sporting gijon. Some absolute belters. By looks of goals, he is playing a lone striker role and looks like he has good aerial ability. I think your right about training, must be the reason he is not getting a game.

Was shocked and surprised @ Stokes making the bench ahead of Scepovic last week in Milan, considering Stokes was on the "naughty step"

Even further than that they replaced JG in that game they with James Forrest!

My gut tells me JG is aware of a "bigger purse/wage" elsewhere so not sure where we go but Scepovic could play the lone striker role

JimTim was it you that highlighted Dyzuba? in Russia? if so mate he committed to another Russian team mate on a Bosman

Jamie it was mate he would have been a cheeky free. Think my list for striker is:

Emoh Ezekiel
Robert Beric
Jurgen Locadia
Yussuf Poulsen (poetic patient)
Jonathan Soriano
Would still like to see Guidetti.

Two of these.

Good shout JimTim. Another bosman we should look at Mark Uth of Heerenveen. Scored 13 goals this season in Dutch league and would do the damage for us.

Theres a CB can't remember his name available on a bosman as well this summer

Nice list JT, & well worth a look DN

A actually heard we have an interest in this guy Tomas Necid at Zwolle? in Holland got a good ratio about 6ft 6in and got a bit of the Dyzuba about him JT

Have you heard this name Ed or know anything about him?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - All I know about Necid is he seems to spend all his time out on loan from whoever he's signed with. I'd think if we wanted to sign him we could have signed him for free in January when CSKA let him leave and he only signed with PEC Zwolle until the end of the season.
I'm always a bit dubious of players who have moved around a lot, it makes me wonder if he's problematic behind the scenes, a poor trainer or just not that good a player. There's a reason why he has been loaned out so much.}

04 Mar 2015 14:30:39
Schar? Would live it but sure there'll be big guns after him. The lad Hoedt who we were linked with is a free I think and looks promising.

Hi Ed, That is a fair train of thought mate he has the look of a "journeyman" about him now that I have looked and move from "pillar to post" so no doubt he will end up with us as we are mince at the striker picking/sourcing!

That website you suggested Ed about 90% of the strikers available on Bosman's are all 30 or 30+ so not a great deal out there available that legs maybe are starting to go a bit can't see them go for a 30 yr old striker just my opinion though

A looked closer at the first name you suggested JT he looks good mate (he also l@@ks a bit like Mo Bangaura too)! but a handful not sure if he has to go back to his parent club in the far east?

Looked at him you suggested DN30 am thinking he must have replaced Fingbossan when he went to Spain mate and scoring for fun mate!

at his press meeting this morning, Deila says when a player asks him why he isn't getting game time, he tells him that a player runs 1200m in a game and he has run only 600, Deila says that usualy ends the conversation.
Maybe if we thought of Scepovic as not covering enough ground, maybe that is why he was played centre midfield for the development squad last week.

Think it is Schar JimTim, Looks a class act. Hoedt looks a good player too. Can see a busy transfer window during the summer.

Jamiebhoy think your right mate about Uth. Would be a great addition to team. Whoever we get in as a striker, hopefully it is someone who is used to playing in 4-2-3-1 formation. Just don't think we have a striker who is confident playing lone striker role. I've got faith in Scepovic but its looking like he won't get a chance and makes you wonder what issue is with him.

Ed, see when we are about potential players what about the last one we were discussing the young Norwegian Havard Nordvelt? a think he is the BEST Norwegian player mate

A watched him play for Munchengladbach on Sunday and without getting carried away he has a REAL look of the Roy Keane about him mate only slightly taller even the way he moves!

He covered some amount of ground mate a know Nir Bitton has made the position his but the lad can also play CH

Any thoughts folks?

Afternoon Ed & all,

Just wanted to follow up yesterday's topic of the POTY award, Can anyone think of anyone other than a CELTIC player making the shortlist? I can't

Moving on to the YPOTY award surely Bitton's biggest threat to that is Jason Denayer? again the only player making that list is the boy McLean that went to Aberdeen maybe the lad Hendrie off to West Ham?

Without getting ahead of ourselves a double or a treble is going to result in the manager of the year going our way as well?

Surely that would be some sort of record?

How will the media handle that lol what adversely can they say?

ATVB JB7

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I think Adam Rooney will be on the shortlist, Jamie, he's scored over 20 goals so far and if he finishes top scorer in the country he'll deserve his nomination.}

03 Mar 2015 16:05:43
Never knew he was sitting on that tally Ed, so he will make the shortlist for sure

Is it 4 or 5 that make the list? Surely it is him plus Celtic players in the running mate? without the need for "tinted specs on"

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I'm sure it's a shortlist of four.}

03 Mar 2015 17:39:54
Brown, Johansen, Gordon and Rooney I thnk will end up being the shortlist.

Not that it really matters where the goals come from but who was the last striker we had who finished top scorer? Was it Skippy? Sorry to go on a tangent.

03 Mar 2015 18:46:23
yip JT it was wee skippy looks leaner now than he ever did with us lol

04 Mar 2015 05:04:04
Thought it was him. He got POTY as well. Just might have been better for us to have had a top scorer in 8 years!

04 Mar 2015 11:49:36
I'm not sure on the age limit for YPOTY but think Greg Stewert has done well since coming in from Cowdenbeath. Only Rooney and Johnny Hayes have a sniff of making the 4 outside Celtic

ED007 was it YOU that planted story in the press about Gordon going to Chelsea? lol

{Ed007's Note - The story's garbage lol I'd have made it more believable by linking him to a team like Torquay or Accrington Stanley.}
