Ed - can I ask whether you think we might get denature back? Much as I rate him I can't see him playing regularly for Man City. I would be happy to invest money frm sale of vvd into bringing denayer back?

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed007's Note - I'd love to see Denayer back at Celtic but I can't see it. The latest is that Denayer wants to be more part of City's plans next season or he will look to move on permanently and he is not interested on another loan move. If Pedro sanctioned the spend I think we would have a good chance after his time here but I don't see El Ped splashing the type of cash it would take.
In saying that, I seen straight up my GPs skirt today, so stranger things have happened.....}

I hope you told him!

I think he will come back for another season, he won't get much first team time at Man City in my opinion. He should come back again and raise his stock further.

I also reckon big Virg won't be sold until the last week or so of the deadline - the bigger EPL clubs will be keeping him as a backup if the can't plunder any other teams, it will be a 'let's throw Β£10m at Celtic' deal, while PL says we don't need to be selling our players but season upon season he does that exact thing!

Hope I'm not coming across as a misery guts here, I am pleased we are moving in the transfer market nice and early, it shows intent from RD that he will be ready come CL qualifiers.

On a lighter note - Is the electricity been cut off yet over at the crumblebowl that is 1pBrox?

I think he wants a better league than ours. If an exit clause was included then he might but just can't see it. He has done us a turn by both playing well and as an encouragement to other gifted young players to come here and progress. As long as we don't ever gave to field Ambrose I will be able to sleep.

He has been told he is going out on loan again next season to at least a championship team and won't be allowed to return to us. He is highly rated by Man City and there is absolutely no chance he is coming back to us on loan or on a permanent move

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Denayer told CiIy doesn't want to go out on loan and with his contract expiring next summer I can't see him being forced into anything where they will risk losing him for no more than training compensation next year.}.

04 Jun 2015 13:07:22
Playing in the championship would be better for his development. In terms of the games anyway - the coaching would be up for debate depending on the club. Playing in the champions league though, if you want to get noticed then that's where you want to be.

Although he is still very young and has a lot to learn, he virtually strolled through the SPL as did VVD and it's totally understandable why they seek a higher standard.
It's painful to lose out on quality players or be unable to keep the ones we manage to sign - even though we virtually guarantee success and European football, but it's a hard fact that we are in a football backwater with very little quality competition and limited wage structure.
I know small countries like Holland, Belguim or Portugal have a core of predictably dominant teams, but they have a higher pedigree or better financial structure or climate.

What do u honk he'd cost ed? 5m? We would know what we were getting and we could sell him later for treble that we really need to spend that bit more sometimes!

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I reckon that's a fair guess bud, maybe Β£7m at a push when you add in the crazy EPL money factor. If I was a manager in the EPL for someone like Aston Villa or Everton I would happily spend Β£15 - 20 million of my budget on VVD and Denayer.}

04 Jun 2015 16:43:31
Ed if that's the case then I can see Denayer being offered a new deal as a sweetner to go back on loan for another season.

Greentea67 I think Gauld is getting a game for first team now for Sporting Lisbon. Think we missed the boat with Gauld, ideal replacement for commons

It's possible some of the above players may make it at Celtic , but as usual none would be guaranteed , I think that with taking less of a tusk we have more than a couple amongst our younger players who already know what is expected off them by Deila and should be well placed to come through in the coming year .

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jun 2015 11:49:22
I think the two positions we need cover for urgently are left back ( Izzy is going to miss start of season and defensive midfield if anything happens to brown or bitton I don't fancy going in to the qualifiers with mulgrew in there and I don't think it's Armstrong's best position, left back should be easy to fill but def midfielders because of the way the majority of teams set up nowadays are in high demand it is also a notoriously difficult position for players to bed into, so that position might be a bit more difficult.

Believable4 Unbelievable3

03 Jun 2015 18:16:47
I wonder how you come up with the idea that left back should be easily filled . We have found it exceptionally hard to get reasonably good left backs over the years .

Agree0 Disagree3

03 Jun 2015 19:49:02
How do you work that out Chris over the years valgaren , boyd , Naylor and Izzy have nailed down the left back spot , other than Naylor ( who was decent Imo ) the other three have been top performers. Also we seem to have been linked with a few left sided defenders, so I think rd has his finger on the pulse in that regard. Why do you question everything I say but very rarely add anything positive, which one of the left backs over the last 15 - 20 years don't you rate? Don't you agree we need cover in both these positions? If not why not?

03 Jun 2015 21:40:14
Fab a hope u aren't referring to Tom boyd wasn't he a right back with tosh mckinlay left back maybe am wrong lol πŸ˜‚ but a do agree with you defo need cover for izzy cm role is fine it's a stricker that's my concern, what about hooper coming back last year of contract and ain't getting game at Norwich

Agree1 Disagree0

03 Jun 2015 23:02:49
Sorry actually was thinking of tosh McKinley , but I think we have done quite well in the full back position over the years .

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - I've seen Boyd playing LB and CB quite a few times. In fact if you check the Transfermarkt market website that some people see as gospel Boyd's main position is listed as a LB.}

04 Jun 2015 00:55:54
Fab1 I am just trying to help you . Valgaren was more of a left centre back of three defenders , than a left back . You actually make my point as really in the last 20 years there were quite a few seasons when we didn't have left backs of the calibre mentioned . If we go a further twenty years back , the quality of left backs was also nott of the standard we would have liked.
Fab1 I am looking forward to praising a post of yours .πŸ˜‹πŸ˜ˆπŸ˜ƒ
To be honest Fab1 , I think we can muster up cover for both positions from within the club . I really think we are lucky to have players of the calibre of Izzy, Biton and Brown and what I want Celtic to do is buy in players of their calibre , not as cover but players who actually will be good enough to play left back and defensive midfield on merit , not just in emergency .

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Jun 2015 09:23:51
So your saying that we never had a left back when martin O'Neil played three at the back? Why would we have needed one? Valgaren played left back for us when he did change the system and for Belgium and for his other clubs before and after us , so you could argue he was actually a left back being played out of position. Again I ask which of the left backs is it you haven't rated over the last 20 years, since according to you we haven't had any good ones .

Even left backs who came with a good reputation , the Dutch boy , brathfield (spelling) didn't really shine for us . Danny Fox was another non shiner .
I think there were quite a few .

Young progressive manager now popular
League won
League cup won
Good first signing for next season
Scotland still in with a shout of qualifying
Rangers 'Well' humped and not promoted
FIFA officials finally being brought to court
Blatter out on his erchie.
(Did you know he used to play tennis? His forehanders were crap but his backhanders were very popular)

Been a great season, for me anyway, looking forward to next one. Hail Hail

I would love people who disagree to explain why. Ed might be worth an extra link to the comment. agree, disagree, disagree and why. Some people just click disagree for want of something to do or think it's funny. Others have a serious reason but don't feel compelled to open a separate comment. Just a thought.

Agree1 Disagree4

{Ed007's Note - If it was left to me I'd do away with them altogether, they serve no purpose except giving trolls a nanosecond of euphoria when they click disagree. I think Ed001 likes them so that braindead idiots have something on the site they can use.}

ED007 and TinyTim as one of the most "recipients" of these anonymous disagreeable persons my idea is gather them all up and make them watch Sevco for a month, if they persist they get a season ticket for Sevco and a third "strike" they get a lifetime membership to watch sevco lol

Good comment Tim, and you are right. Even when you state a hard fact some people still select disagree.
DN30, it is no big deal but it would be helpful as to why they disagree. I have, over the years, seen quite a few disagrees on posts. Although you don't see who they are, when you look at other related posts you can see many of them as the person has submitted a comment which opposes another post. That is feedback and I for one have enjoyed the different viewpoints and even changed my opinion on some items.
I love the banter along with the well thought out arguments. I never knew much about administration, liquidation etc. until I followed these site comments.
