Hi Ed

Do you know if Celtic has shown any interest in Ricky Van Wolfswinkel?

Scored quite a few goals at Sporting Lisbon and still only 26. Could do a job for us.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I've not heard anything about us being interested, I think he'll end up back at Sporting Lisbon on loan next season if he has his way.}

03 Aug 2015 23:37:00
Is he the guy that was a total failure at Norwich,or somewhere,much prefer the rumour about Michu,he is quality,but would'nt give him ridiculous wages,but if the transfer fee is reasonable and he would take the same wages as Griffiths,then the rest is as they say,a no brainer

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Van Wolfswinkel was a decent player before he went to Norwich and at only 26 he's got time to get back there.}

04 Aug 2015 17:24:25
He scored a hattrick against us a few years ago as well i'm sure. I think he would be a good player for us, it just never happened for him at Norwich but if he came up here I think he would score a good few.

It really adds insult to injury that these 'sugar daddies' associate with our club in name, but rarely invest serious cash to see our club compete at the highest level, with the best players available, instead of distancing themselves from the potential ambition and success of Celtic FC.
Quite happy to see us portrayed as the 'Aldi' of football.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Aug 2015 16:05:56
It's not as easy as you think for these "sugar daddies " to invest money in Celtic in such a way that Celtic can buy better players . Neither of these men own the club and can only invest by buying more shares . If D. D does so I think there would be a possible problem with his share holding which may mean he would have to take over the club . This could well be very bad for us fans . Fergus McCann tried to ensure that no one person or small group of people could own Celtic .
To regularly be able to buy more expansive players, the club needs higher regular income .

Evening Ed, hope your well mate?
Have you heard anything about a big name striker coming to Celtic?, I was at the game on Saturday and a lot of talk was about a striker coming in that everyone would be excited about a few people even said he was willing to take a 70% pay cut to come to us! Can't see it myself!
Another point scouting! we are pretty big club with quite a big scouting range surely we must have a massive list of players for every position yet why do we struggle to find a decent left back, playmaker and Striker! If you have ever played football manager I could give you a massive list of players that would fit the bill just by using there scouting network!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I've no idea who they're talking about, Gaz mate. It's a bit suspect people know how much of a wage cut the guy's going to take but don't know his name.
Believe it or not but more and more clubs are starting to use the FM database as part of their scouting process, it's been an integral part of Everton's School of Science for a few years now. I can only assume that it must have been a bug that spat out McGeady's name to them!}

If we don't qualify for CL group stages due to missed goal scoring opportunities, surely its time for Lawwell and John Park to go.

My reason for Lawwell is last seasons failure after being graced with a second bite of the cherry aganist Maribor, he never invested any £ that would strenghten a weak side and give us a fighting chance. Instead he signed loans who apart from Denayer done nothing. This cost us £20m in CL revenue. If we don't qualify this season, that will be a loss of £40m. if it is due to playing a striker who can not score goals at this level, again this is another failing on John Parks behalf and ultimately Lawwell, as Lawwell has continually allowed club to sign striker recommended by Park.

Reason for John Park, is his total inability to identify a striker. This is not sign of a good all round Head Scout. Remember this is the man who rated Pukki better value than Finnbogasson!.

If we are to continue progressing as a club, these 2 have to go.

Totally agree dn30! Been saying for long enough now that lawells times up! And if we do get knocked out of the qualifiers again then it's one mans fault! Our failure to provide our manager with some decent money to buy a higher quality of player bit us on the arse last year and if the same thing happens this year then he must take the blame! We're sick of hearing about 7-8 million pound players and we're a CL club! If that is the case then start acting like one! We've spent buttons this window if u take in to account the Matthews and pukki transfer fees! It's just not good enough! We buy a mediocre striker from Dundee Utd who's banned for the 1st 6 games of the season for biting! We clearly need a left back but none have been brought in! It ain't good enough for me! And it's not doom and gloom,it's the truth! Lawell done a great job reducing the debt when he 1st came in and tried hard on making us a more global brand! But for me he's ruined that good work with his penny pinching and inability to back the manager with adequate funds! Not silly money,but at least money to give us half a chance of not only qualifying but to try and compete if we get in!

Agree1 Disagree1

03 Aug 2015 17:15:03
DN30: its the same story every year.Try and qualify with a bit here and there, instead of getting in the players that we need.
Now before I get my head bit off, I am fully aware that even if we spend £7-10m that does not guarantee we get through or that the players we want if fact want to play in the SPFL.

But just for once please just spend the money and give the fans (in the immortal words of Paul McStay) a buzz about the place.

Guys totally agree with comments about Lawwell and to a certain extent with Parks (although in his defence he has identified other players, BUT NOT STRIKERS) but surely as a striker is a specialist position we should be employing someone like say a John Hartson/Henrik Larsson type who knows what to look out for. I hate it also when Lawwell talks about Celtic can sign an £8m player (we all know we NEVER wil) and now Delia is saying something similar in if we make group stages "we will use CL money to buy players" sorry Ronnie but we have never done this in previous years when we made the group stages, so I cannot see Lawwell allowing you to do so this season either.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Larsson recommended Mo Bangura.}

03 Aug 2015 18:31:04
Timalloy I have been making a case for a strikers coach for the last couple of seasons now that could double up as a scout

Lawell may have 'earned' bonuses galore for achieving targets agreed in certain quarters, but he has failed miserably to maintain the calibre of player and manager, deserving of Celtic FC and the support.
He has used the death of Rangers as a stick to beat us into the belief we are a small club and the fans should be grateful for what we can get on a shoestring budget - while the clubs market value and economic resolve has flourished.
We have never been a club to spend squillions on transfers and have never chased glory with a cheque book like others, so there was never any chance of us becoming another Sevco.
OK the TV deals have been ridiculously poor, but we make a lot of money from merchandising and selling on players, so there is no excuse for still trying to do things on the cheap and continuing this 'biscuit tin' mentality.
All we require is a couple of CL quality players in key positions to convince our top players to stay and show the supporters we are serious about European football.
We belong in the CL and with the absence of a so-called serious rival since 2012, we should be well established and maintaining our Euro pedigree instead of scrambling to qualify against Who's and Where's who are not in our league.

Do you not think that some of the players moving between teams for not a great deal of money sometimes would be worth a punt (can't think of specific examples, but players moving between smaller bundesliga teams and things). Celtic seem to sign unheard of players and then we find out why they are unheard of. Obviously there have been some good signings.

But for 2 million you can get a bargain. I'd honestly have a look at the big qarabag defender number 55. Although Celtic didn't have much to threaten him he looked really good and composed. Better than Chuck and efe.

No point in having a striker coach,you either got the ability or not,Griffiths has got it,not sure about Scepovisc,sometimes you got to play a sriker through a dry spell,this playing him a few minutes now and again does'nt do anybody any good,strikers need a few full games so the rest of the team can appreciate his qualities and play to them,or he proves he is no good and then drop him to being a bit player.

Getting rid of Lawwell if we fail to qualify for the Champions League may earn the board some plaudits from some fans but I doubt if much else changes .
I don't think many of us would know anyone who could do a better job as CEO.
Probably most of us would have an opinion on a manager who may or may not be a good choice for Celtic . Our CEO , no matter who he is will have to work under the restrictions laid down by the board . Nothing will change if we move Lawwell out .

DN does the manager not have any responsibiliy here? Surely he is responsible for results and him alone. I hate to cover old ground here mate but wasnt lennon responsible for some of his poorer signings and you let your feelings known about this so why is it different for RD? Also it is very noticeable the support is split on the way we play just as it was in lennons tenure it really is groundhog day. To date I have not criticised an RD signing but none of them have gave me any inspiration.Also after VVD is gone where is the next big money spinner coming from I don't see any do you? Intreesting times ahead I think.

I think Delia is having one hell of a time getting accepted by a small number of Celtic fans . Most people would accept he deserved about 3 months honey moon period in order to get his message across . Since Halloween last year I think his results and performances have been first class , Some people seem to be trying to write him off before the bloody match takes place . Any team that has to play two or three qualifying rounds has no devine right to qualify and it is indeed a damn difficult task .
Playing teams in mid season and playing other teams in white hot heat cannot be easy . Maybe if the Scottish season ended at the start of May instead of the end , and if we didn't have a full team of internationals playing in mid June we might have a fairer chance .
God, how envious Deila must be with the reception Warburton has received by the worse fans in Scotland , compared to what some Celtic fans give him .

Have been having some thoughts on all things Celtic.
RD yes or no, jury is still out here and I will tell you why
Champions league, still to prove he has the tactical skill to make the league stages
Wednesday will be critical to this. Failure to get past Qarabag will mean this season is literately over
Player selection, The best player on Saturday was J Irvine who we released without giving a real chance too, also under RD regime Jinky Best and Maradona would not have been chosen as they were poor trainers and did not run down the opposition others that come to mind include DiCanio, Viduka, Nakamora, Deans and I am sure you can think of others EG Cantona

PL Buying and selling policy. This is haphazard to say the least and seems to be the cheapest option first and to constantly reduce costs. This is a self defeating concept which will lead to fewer customers coming to matches, less TV and stadium monies and again a reduction in more wages to compensate. This reminds me of the early 80s policy which failed dismally.
The Board and DD. Here there is a lack of real leadership with little ambition and a clear set of goals. Simply to maintain the status quo is not a business program and with so many successful directors on the board who should know in business those who don't move forwards go backwards and eventually go under. Whilst I do not believe Celtic will go the way of Servco, Scottish football is in danger of becoming a backwater of European football as in Ireland

What a load of nonsense. You say failing to beat Qarabag will be Ronny's fault? Two days before we actually play the game? Take the shocking state of the pitch away,take the possible 60-80 degree heat,and explain to me would you.I get the impression you assume because this team is unheard of we SHOULD win.Their recent Euro record is not bad.we saw they have some good players so I cannot accept what you say.

Bringing the training aspect in I find puzzling. Do you not understand the game Ronny is trying to implement is all about high pressure on opponents up the pitch.How many times have you stood at Celtic park and watched us being outrun by various teams,even Scandinavian part timers. There will of course be times we need to change tact,KC on for the last 20 for instance. I hope your not one of our numerous CL fans mate.People who assume we should be in every year.

You enter the realms of business. Self defeating concept? How much,at the present time, do you think it costs to run Celtic in a country where TV income is pathetic? This is precisely why Ronny is here,to reduce transfer costs. Already he has shown a willingness to throw kids in and must be backed in this process. If this goes well then maybe we will have the cash for a big signing every now and again. I see keevins is already claiming Ronny will be under pressure if we don't qualify,dont get into bed with these people.

Green Jedi you say Ronny has shown a willingness to play young players I don't see that. Tierney played on sat but only because izzy and Charlie were out and was taken off when doing ok to be replaced at lb by efe?why
He sent Henderson to Rosenberg to get game time well he could have got more time playing with us at the end of season than he got at Rosenberg.
He played mcgregor out of position and the boy became predictable and lost his way and hasn't been seen since October.
He played denayer yes but that was good contacts with a club that can buy the best young talent in Europe who was ready to play 1st team football to gain experience.
Add in guidetti who had a 10 game streak of scoring and the rest of his season was garbage.disagree if you want but please tell me where youth is being utilised consistently or progressing?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - Tierney was on the verge of breaking into the first-team squad last season before he broke his ankle and RD has went with Izaguirre and Mulgrew at LB because he didn't want to throw Tierney in during European qualification. The fact he is returning from injury is probably why he didn't play or 90 mins on Saturday. Towards the end of last season RD had this to say about the youngster:

'He is a very promising youngster, he has been good in training for a long time. I wanted to give him a chance also for a long time, but he has been a little bit injured…
Yes, he has (the ability to push Izaguirre). He is ready for this level. He shows that in training every day, and he has also played some good games for the Under-20s.

And at the weekend RD said that Tierney needs to work on his fitness and stamina:

'He has a great attitude. He needs to work on his stamina, but he is a determined player and he is also a player who is very aware of what is going on all around him at times which is very important. His touch and his technique will improve as he plays more games but he is a very good young player and it was good for him to play.'

I'm starting to think that RD is wanting to sign St Pauli's Marcel Halstenberg as a replacement for Izaguirre rather than to challenge him and the long-term plan is Halstenberg and Tierney will fight it out for the starting LB slot.
If we can convince Halstenberg to leave Germany during this window I wouldn't be surprised to see Izaguirre moved on before the end of the month.}

04 Aug 2015 13:26:52
I hope your right about Tierney breaking thru only time will tell but I still think he will be third choice or possibly fourth if we sign anyone as none of the higher earners in our squad appear to be moving on very quickly.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Aug 2015 20:24:01
Failure to qualify for any competition must be down to the management team and the board of directors. The players too must accept responsibility but this is now becoming RD team he has brought in the new players and picks the players and tactics. If this had been Strachans team or Lennons would you still be so supportive

If a left back is bought does young Tierney get a crack at his natural left wing position. I remember last year against one of the Austrian teams he had a great game and was surprised when I seen him at full back

ED001/ED007 clutching at straws here (but after Legia last year) if pitch is deemed unplayable by UEFA can Celtic be awarded the tie? or will game simply be moved to another stadium?

{Ed001's Note - no. The game just gets played elsewhere, it might be on another date too, depending on when it is deemed unplayable.}

Typical open up the papers and it's all about CG should have been sent off! No mention of the boy who gave away the penalty not getting sent off! A blatant red card! To me Gordon's was never a sending off! The boy was no where near the goal! And VVD was getting back! He'd over ran the ball.yeh it was clumsy from Gordon but a yellow was the right call! Just amazes me these people some how tryin to make out that if Gordon had been sent off it would have changed the result! Utter garbage!
