In a couple of weeks time it will be 4 years since Celtic last lost a domestic cup game. So the BBC are tonight showing a Celtic defeat to Dundee Utd in the 1981 Scottish cup semi final to remind fans in Scotland what it actually looks like for Celtic to lose a cup game.
Incidentally Celtic have met Dundee Utd 11 different years in the Scottish cup since that defeat in 1981 and Celtic have triumphed every single time. Six of those games have also been at Hampden,3 Semi finals and 3 Finals and Celtic won the lot.
Dundee Utd won their first Scottish cup in 1994 when they defeated Rangers who were going for a double treble but bottled it at the last hurdle.
Including that superb day for Dundee Utd they have beaten both Rangers / Sevco combined 6 times in a row in Scottish cup ties since 1994.Maybe that’s one of the reasons they hate Dundee Utd as much.

@Buzz Bomb it gets better, the dear old "unbiased" BBC have scoured their archives and on Sunday's Sportcene are showing the old club actually WINNING a cup final against us, probably be in black and white.

I just watched Ryan Giggs Testimonial game. I was at it but couldn't remember much apart from it being a cracker. An intense feisty game with both teams going at it full pelt. I forgot Lennon even scored! We where outstanding that season and beating United with all their superstars was a 2 finger get it up yous to all that mocked Scottish Football🍀.

That was a great performance that night, I think moravcik scored a screamer aswell. What a team that was. i went down for Keane's testimonial. game was crap but what a night must have been about 20 thousand celtic fans there. 4 weeks tomorrow since our last game feels like 4 years 😪.

Does anyone think that with the way this virus is progressing, and that when football clubs will be getting deeper into the financial mire, that transfer fees will be slashed?

We're reading £30m for Eddie as an example. Maybe if this virus wasn't here we would get about that but can't see it happening, unless he signs a new contract with a release clause in it and leaves in the next year or so.

Does anyone else think the national FAs should tell uefa where to go and run their game as they see fit? Uefa threaten to ban the Belgian teams from European competition as they've declared Brugge champions. Wonder if it would be the same if it was England or Spain.

I thought it was reported that UEFA mentioned only last week that it was for the individual Associations to decide their outcomes. Must have been fake news or there has been a u- turn.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Apr 2020 17:01:07
I think UEFA Have made a total mess of this. They should be giving CLEAR guidance to all nations as too what they expect to happen and give a weekly update as too what they expect weekly because things change quickly As well as that put in place guidance on paying players wages Its a changed world and IT'S going to be a changed world after all this ends BE safe everyone you and all your family.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Apr 2020 20:21:01
I think It’s impossible to give clear guidance, as nobody has an notion when it’s going to be safe to allow people to mingle together . With the best will in the world UEFA could gave any date for resuming football but we wouldn’t know if they got it right , until virus has moved on and isn’t coming back.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Apr 2020 04:24:44
Even when there is an official all clear, after there had been many months of mass deaths and illness, how many people will be confident to go to a game and stand next to strangers in a queue to get in, after being conditioned in to social distancing, it's going to be very weird for a while.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't see why footballers should be exempt from this wages cut if everyone else has too most at bigger clubs in Scotland and especially in England where some players get enough to pay 15 nurses for a year in a weeks wages at the end of the day football is a hobby and a privilege to play in big games with all the fans in stadium never mind crazy wages in a week people don't get working 20 long hard years I think especially English Premiership should take a percentage of the players wages to help NHS and realise how good they have life.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Football isn't a hobby if it's your job, and what about all those TV presenters and actors that are getting millions a year in wages? What about people in government - whose job it is to actually fund the NHS yet they have continually cut budgets and even applauded winning votes in Parliament to halt NHS pay rises etc - like Jacob Rees-Mogg who has a personal wealth of over £150 million?
Peter Lawwell is the highest earning employee at Celtic, why should players on less money than him take a pay cut on a legally binding contract, players will already be out of pocket as it is with no football there's no bonuses and their image rights money will also take a hit.
Why should players take a hit to fund the NHS instead of taking a hit to help the homeless, help starving or abused kids or even the sick/disabled & unemployed?}

03 Apr 2020 12:54:08
Everyone else is taking hit why shouldn't they I include lawell and everyone else at other clubs on big wages do you think cause there on big wages makes them exempt like everyone else in Britain who is off on lower wages.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It's nothing to do with any exemption it's about what is written in legally binding contracts. My questions are why now, why the NHS that the government has destroyed and why should football players bail out the government of their own mess?
By the way, you do know that if you earn over £150k a year in Scotland you pay 46% (45% in England) in income tax alone - aren't they giving enough to the government as it is?}

03 Apr 2020 13:51:20
This is exactly what the tory government want. Distract the public from their failings with look at they big bad footballers and the public fall for it everytime. When are people going to wise up.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - And yet the Tories and the morons that voted for them have the brass neck to post videos of them standing at their doors applauding the NHS and other key workers.
If I had my way the hospitals should be asking folk who they voted for and if you voted Tory then you go to the bottom of the queue for ANY treatment, how many of them would be proud to admit they voted Tory then?}

03 Apr 2020 14:02:56
Ive never got my head round the tax thing. So if someone earns £125k they take home more than someone on £150k. Surely u would say to your employer to pay u £149k instead.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - In Scotland the higher rate of 41% is paid on taxable income over the Personal Allowance from £30,931 to £150,000. In England, Wales and Northern Ireland the higher rate of 40% is paid on taxable income over from £37,501 to £150,000.
In Scotland the higher rate of 41% is paid on taxable income over the Personal Allowance from £30,931 to £150,000.
The difference in Scottish tax on £150k and £149k works out at about £8k p.a. Steph, they probably don't mind paying that as it lets them brag/moan about being in the top bracket}

Cheers ed. They certainly don't make it easy. Been paying tax for 20 odd years, its easy to pay that but I've never had to sign on (thank God) so don't know how the system works and its not easy. I'll get there tho.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Och I can tell you how the system works, firstly they'll be all nicey nicey as they divvy up endless forms to fill in - forms that ask questions you'd be embarrassed to answer to your doctor - then when the forms are all done they'll tell you what you're entitled to and just as you're thinking that you'll guddle through and get by they'll flip you over one fell swoop and f**k you straight up the a$$ as they lovingly whisper into your ear what you still have to pay out which is ALWAYS more than they're giving you.}

Take a bow Ed. Some great words there.

Keep paying all the players top whack whilst the club is not bringing in any income, result the club, any club, will go bankrupt, or cancell all the players contracts and let the players take the club's through the legal process, a long lengthy overloaded legal process, or come to some agreement with the players to take a reduction on wages, and this isn't taking a hit for the NHS, it's taking a hit to save our club and every other club in Scottish football, and I voted labour in the last election, but it wasn't because of that Corbyn.

As expected it appears there will be no " null and void" conclusion to the season. Que the emphatic celebrations from Sevco, it now means they can catch us in the closely contested title race and stop the ten after all🙊.

Agree1 Disagree0

03 Apr 2020 19:06:37
Make no mistake Malky, they may be vigorously demanding it but they do not want this season played out. They want it null and void and, to an extent, even if we were given it they could use that to bolster their "no one likes us, we don't care" mentality. Playing out the season will only show them up for the poor outfit they are.

Something a bit different. If you think Eddie is as good as Henrik, why? And if not why not? I think he still isn't as good in the air, doesn't work as hard and still doesn't score enough inside the 6 yard box goals (which might mean starting to post the figures Larsson did) .

Believable1 Unbelievable0

03 Apr 2020 09:14:02
Not in the same league. The reasons Feyeonord, Celtic, Barcelona and Man Utd which are also the reasons he’s the greatest ever Celt. It’s all about open onions.

03 Apr 2020 09:24:18
I agree with all your answers to your question. Edouard shows great composure in front of goal which is up there with Henrik. Edouard’s temperament and unselfishness is also up there with Larsson.
I feel more confident that Edouard will score a penalty than I was when Henrik took his penalty kicks and I feel Eddy is also slightly better with free kicks.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Apr 2020 11:04:49
I can't say I seen much of Larsson when he was 22. Larsson is my all time favourite player and I doubt Edouard will eclipse that. He's obviously not the player Larsson was and I agree with everything you say Markie but Edouard is at the start of his career and still has massive capacity to improve.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Apr 2020 12:34:34
As much as I like eddy, Larsson was different class. I'd also swap eddy for Dembele but like others have said it's great to have him and with him being so young who knows what he could go on to.

Eddy over dembele for me. A better all round player and less injury prone.

When Henrik left us he went on to play with E’to, Ronaldinho, Xavi, Iniesta and a young Messi. I never once thought he looked out of place among them. I’m glad he got to lift the big cup. I will also be glad if or when Eddy leaves that he does the same thing.

I'm not sure what Celtic's position regarding pay cuts, furlongs and such due to the current crisis.

However, let's face it if Celtic first team player's had to take a 50% pay cut or what ever it would not affect their life style in anyway.

For me, although I'm utterly bored out of my nut I'm saving a fortune by being stuck in all day.

Okay, I know footballer's have higher outgoings than us mere mortals but surely for a few months they don't need to buy there wag girlfriend's expensive jewellery and cars. That's right most of these place's are currently closed.

Any cut the first team agree to could be passed through the club from the tea lady to the kit guy.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

I don’t know why Celtic fans seem so interested in players taking a cut in wages .
I don’t think it is any of our business what cut players take . We don’t know, nor we have no need to know the wages of our individual players, so knowing whether they took a cut doesn’t mean much . If whole squad is given a cut, those on smaller wages may suffer most . WAGs may resent it and could start trouble in camp.
