Jozo only played 125 games over 5 years awful return.

Still feel he made a decent contribution.
First season with us 17 games.
Next 3 seasons, 30 or more games.
This season around 15 games.

Always felt he played for the badge and was instrumental in the invincible season defensive record.

I can understand why we haven't offered him a new long term deal but in my opinion it's a bit of a risk not taking up the option of another year. If Ajer leaves or Jullien gets injured we will be left very light in that area.

Maybe buy a cb that can be relied on to stay fit.

Injuries are down to bad luck mate. Can happen to any player. there's not a player in the world you could buy at the moment that could be relied upon to stay fit and not get injured.

Jozo was captain of some very good Croatian youth teams up to 21s when we bought him. It's a shame injuries blighted the boys career with us a bit but I don't think we can be too disappointed with what we got from him in his time with us.

I liked Jozo when he was fit and I must admit, if somebody had asked me how many games he played for us I would have thought less than 125. Good luck to him. Maybe a warmer climate will keep him fit longer.

A liked jozo he was a proper defender with a nasty streak but the reality is he wa always injured. Agree he was unlucky. but let's get a good solid cb signed.

It's up to Celtic if and when Ajer leaves so I wouldn't be too worried about that Buster. Jozo is decent enough when he's on the pitch but it was always difficult to actually get him there in the first place. Then just as he was looking to get into a rhythm he'd either get injured or be forced to sit out due to the pitch etc. This might be unfair or petty but I was finished with him after the Copenhagen game.

{Ed007's Note - Maybe in the good old days, Kev clubs decided when players moved on but these days if a player wants out 9 times out of 10 they will get their wish and as things stand Ajer wants out.
Now it's up to Lennon, Kennedy and guys like Brown to get in his ear to try and change his mind, or would a new improved deal & a promise he will be allowed to move next summer help sway him to stay for another year?}

01 Jun 2020 10:33:02
Totally agree Ed but what I meant was with regards to us being caught short if he goes. I think he'll probably go this summer but the club will have every opportunity to plan for it and have something else lined up for when/ if he does. Having said that, Dembele showed that these best laid plans can turn on a Tanner.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Oh right, I misunderstood you mate, sorry. With Simunovic being released so promptly and the uncertainty regarding Ajer's future I'm sure Hammond will have already made some progress with potential signings.}

01 Jun 2020 12:55:50
I think we'll need to sign 3 new centre backs to be honest. Ajer will go and we can't depend upon bitton or elhamed to stay fit.

I am a big fan of Ajer but if he wants to leave then feck getting in his ear. Punt him and bring in a replacement.
Like wee Strachan said
“If people don’t want to come here, win titles and play with good players at the highest level in Europe in front of 60,000 fans with a chance of becoming a legendary figure that’s fine by me, If you can get that elsewhere, then fair enough. ”

Same applies to any player here. You don't want to be here for one of the most legendary seasons in the clubs history then do one.

He isn't the greatest defender either Kev.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Jun 2020 20:10:52
He is a very good defender.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jun 2020 00:50:37
Ajer a very good defender?
Where about Kev, he is mince in the air for his height. Forever got his hands all over good strikers as his positional play gets him in trouble, gave away a few pens last season also. He is never a CB in my opinion, infront of the back four I think he would be a different animal. Breaking up play as he is good at tackling and his striding forward runs would be more dangerous if he were a bit further up the field.

Ajer is a very good 21/ 22 year old Centre half . We were lucky Ronny got him to sign for us . As far as I remember he was still at school and was continuing his education. I reckon he gives his best wherever he plays in the back four . Some times fans reckon he would be best suited to playing in front of back four or as a defensive midfielder.
I find this strange as he has rarely played outside our back four, yet without seeing him play as defensive midfield they think he is better playing there than c. back.

One of the main things I dread next season is Sevco-SLY slanted coverage. Their reporting of Scottish football in general is grudged, compressed and very focussed on one team/ manager and don't get me started on the pundits (with an H instead of a P) and ex-Celt turncoats with their 2p worth.
Shame big Chris Sutton won't be there.

Only way to deal with that is keep winning and give them nothing real to talk about HH.

31 May 2020 17:12:37
Jaw we could win 4 0 and they will say decisions went for us it might be funny to hear hh.

As long as we can see their pain they can say what they like. I'll actually miss BT they cared about our game in Scotland. Unlike sky we're an afterthought.

So looks like Lennon wanted Hayes to stay and was also on record I'm sure about wanting jozo also regardless if supporters think they should have been let go of not Lennon is clearly not making these decisions.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - That's probably because it's not Lennon's job, it's up to Nick Hammond and Peter Lawwell who gets offered new deals.}

31 May 2020 13:47:47
I think both parties were keen to stay, but as you say Ed; contract negotiations/ offers/ extensions/ terminations are out of NL's hands.
If JH does go back to Aberdeen, I'm sure he will cause us problems; like many ex-Celts wanting to prove a point over the years.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I was surprised that Super Jonny Hayes wasn't even offered a deal.}

31 May 2020 15:50:00
Useful wed guy to have about and he's got more medals than the full sevco first team put together 😅😅.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 May 2020 17:55:15
That's my point ed.
And I know you don't offer players contracts because of how influencial they are in the dressing room like lustig for example but if you have a player like Hayes who would play half fit and do a job when needed and knows himself he's not first choice then that's a different story.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Maybe Super Jonny Hayes is making way for James McClean...

31 May 2020 18:59:13
well seemingly stoke are interested,
maybe a swap?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - We can't swap SJH if we've let his contract run down.}

31 May 2020 19:11:40
i mean maybe a possibility of mcclean coming in i hope not he's p1sh.

Maybe I am just an old cynic but.

The previous 2 seasons the "impartial" "random" fixture computer gave the new club lots of early home fixtures, to gain them an advantage in front of their fans, surely not.
But with it looking like no fans will be allowed into grounds until at least January I anticipate, no I am CERTAIN Celtic will get oodles of home games before Christmas with NO FANS present, in the hope Sevco can play their home games with their fans cheering them home.
But I still expect us to win 10 in a row.

Tim,
I think Celtic will build an unassailable lead in the first quarter of games.
Sevco should be away to Celtic, Aberdeen, Hibs, Motherwell and Livingston in that first quarter.
I am expecting Sevco to drop quite a few points in those games.
A plus also would be Celtic don’t have to visit Hearts twice before the split.
I think Celtic will cope very well playing behind closed doors because this current Celtic squad have showed time and time again they are a very professional unit.

Celtic are usually at their best with a packed house at Paradise and the relationship with the support is legendary. This will be a whole new experience and a boost for any opponent, avoiding the passionate Celtic Park atmosphere. It's a huge culture shock, but one where we have the talent, motivation and experience to succeed.

31 May 2020 14:30:24
I think sevco will be more used to playing behind closed doors! How many Uefa bans did they get last season?

Everyone is trying to stop the 10iar lol.

It would've been interesting to see what fixtures the split would've served up. Surely all of ours should've been at home and all the Rangers away. But they still would've caught us up even though they was floundering against the teams fighting relegation 😂.
