Question for you fellow celts. Would you start Benkovic on Sunday along with Boyata? Who is your prefered defensive pairing?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Aug 2018 23:44:08
Benkovic, Ajer and Boyata in a back three.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 23:50:03
Not for me mate. I think we should go with Ajer alongside Boyata. Too soon for Benkovic and Ajer has done little wrong to be dropped. Hopefully we'll see Benkovic make the position his own, but he has to earn it.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 23:57:20
No chance he’ll start, BR generally doesn’t take risks like that and will want the player to settle in to the surroundings first and all that sh! te!

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2018 00:00:29
Not sure why everyone loves Boyata now and have forgotten how consistent ajer was last season. Ajer is our best cb in my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2018 00:08:12
He'll play the same back 4 as Thurs night imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2018 00:15:57
If Simunovic is available, I’d go with him and Boyata. Too risky to throw someone in who doesn’t know the fixture and our system. To be honest, I’m hoping we don’t need to worry about defence as I think we might have enough going forward to run them ragged.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2018 00:24:14
Ajer has merited being dropped tbh, however I would be surprised if Benkovic started on Sunday.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2018 01:00:32
Be interesting to see how we line up Sunday, I expect them to go 352 with Morelos n lafferty up top.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2018 01:01:19
Anyone else think benkovic would do well with jozo? As a back 2 obviously. He says he knows him well, and other wasn't long ago he won tackle of the decade.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2018 01:17:42
Can see why anyone would drop ajer myself.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2018 03:29:22
Jozo will be forever remembered for " the greatest tackle ever seen"! If only he could repilcate the form from 2 seasons ago.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2018 07:31:28
Hard to look pass ajer and Boyata. Two lads have played well in the last 2 games together. Ajer has been very consistent for me considering all the trouble in defence. BR might have the 2 lads on the bench. Surely at least the Mulumbu to cover midfield.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2018 08:39:55
Kev83,
beat me to it.
All those blaming PL but conveniently missing the part where PL was in place when we signed BR followed by 2 tremendous seasons.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 23:29:43
I agree it's a great bit of business but it's absolutely disgusting that we never had someone lined up as a replacement even as a backup striker.
It's even more disgusting that we will probably replace him with a freebie or at best another $500k prodigy.
But the most disgusting aspect of this whole window is that dembele transfer fee will go some way to make up for missing out on CL money which will go straight into Desmond and Lawwells pockets.
Before this window started I had very high expectations just like most other fans and it's turned out to be the worst window I can remember. We go into this season now a heck of a lot weaker than last while they have improved massively.
I personally want Desmond and Lawwell etc to **** off now, their lack of ambition is allowing them a way back and that is unforgivable.

Kiwi, how much did we spend on dembelle when he came in? .

Agree0 Disagree0

31 aug 2018 23:48:59
and that makes it ok johnbhoy? think its more to do with the value of the player to the team than to the bank balance . im sure if we get turned over on sunday youll still be thinking if the profit made?

Dembele clearly didn't want to be here so he had no value to the team.

I love Celtic do you

That's good stop the moaning for now. Whilst everyone is entitled to their opinion some of the comments on here were way too angry and over the top. as if they do actually hate the club as so bitter. Without knowing the actual facts of what has really gone on time will tell. Regardless our club marches on. Hail Hail our day will come. Starting tomorrow against manager no 5 De da De da da da da De da da De da Mambo.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2018 11:33:03
Brendan removing him from training says it all. attacking the management on Twitter shows where Dembele stands and for me that was the end of him. happy memories, Brendan obviously thought he had him for the next year so why have a 4th striker lined up. Give Griffiths a run and we will see the Bhoy from a couple of seasons ago.

31 Aug 2018 23:21:59
The amount of panty wetters on here are unreal. Br has said all window players need to move. Quality over quantity. Quality players start at 15m+. I hear wee need a right back we have 3 Lustig, Gamboa and Ralston and Hendry and Ajer can fill in there. We need a centre half we have Ajer, Hendry Compper Boyata summonivic and benkovic. Bitton Lustig and kt have filled in there also. At least 2 or 3 of the current defence would have had to be moved on before we bring anymore in.
Dembele good luck to him signed for 500k sold for £20 million. Before we start signing players we need to see departures of de vries, Gamboa, Compper, Bitton, Allan, Hayes benyu and others.

31 Aug 2018 23:29:02
Peter would certainly agree with you Cmac.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 23:52:23
Already sold a centre back, now dembele which was always on the cards, done well to keep him as long and then Armstrong left as well as a couple if the youths . Money wasn't the problem, ambition was . The fans support the team and the board look after share holders . Tell me I'm wrong .

Seen an interview with Leigh and he's desperate to sign a new deal this after banging in 100 goals played second fiddle a lot of the time to the prime donna and never once grumbled or through the toys out. well done wee griff here's to another Ton.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

31 Aug 2018 23:39:38
Good point Mally: Griff is certainly a world class striker and if we can get him firing like his first season we won't be short of goals. and frankly--we have been lately--.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 23:51:28
I am not keen to be reliant on Griffiths, I’ll agree it’s probably down to his injuries but he’s certainly taken a few steps back and has a long way to go to get near that 1st season standard.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 23:19:08
I know we had to sell Dembele when he wanted to leave and the right money was offered but i do fear a little for this season, i was looking forward to Dembele and Edouard running a mock and fear we will struggle to break teams down who sit in at parkhead, can't afford to drop many more points than we did last year as Rangers are definitely stronger now than then. Hope my fears are for nothing HH.

"However, this particular decision to accept this offer has been taken in order to serve the best interests of the first-team squad, my coaching team and the culture and environment we have created in these last two seasons. "

1. Mouse was upsetting the players
2. He insulted the manager publicly
3. He wasn't training or heeding the advice and instructions of the coaching staff

That's not just an overnite thing. I feel there is more to this story - especially in light of Sutton's remarks in the last window that we were trying to punt him.

But this is obviously unacceptable behaviour. Must be some bad mojo at the club right now.

What a bit of business Celtic!

Plays 94 times for us, great find unfortunate that it is the cycle it is as BR states a " two year cylcle" Virgil, Wanyama, Hooper, Big FF, Now Moos the biggest of them all

Now if the scouting department could go and do there job right please and find us a couple of stars in the making

Hamstring's were always an issue with MD and that could plague him forever good luck to him all the same (Y)

Believable3 Unbelievable0

31 Aug 2018 22:46:06
Well put Jaimie we need to accept the cycle but the hard part is to keep finding them. We have found undoubtedly the best defender in the world. kt 😏 and the 2nd in Virgil. Big Wanyama is still a force in the pub league. Forster made the England squad and hopefully in a few years we see Moussa pick up 2nd place in the ballon dor behind eddy. Celtic 1st Celtic last Celtic overall seen so many come and go but it’s us fans who are still here. Here we go 10iar.

31 Aug 2018 22:31:06
So are there any possible replacements?

Vincent jansen has no squad number at spurs

Solanke is one of 5 strikers

Shane long may not have score many for Southampton but you'll get a more than capable 3rd striker n he'd be decent away from home n he's a diehard n we need more like him.

Either way the squad isn't strong enough up front for 4 completions.

Surely it can't me Christie, James or sinclair filling in if needed.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 23:07:11
I think we need to watch what's happening in training, why are our strikers so injury prone.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 22:14:38
Clearly there is a lot of justified frustration, emotions and lots of questions being asked. There is absolutely no doubt that there appears to be significant failings in our scouting, forward planning, negotiating and completion of deals and especially early on in a transfer window.

There will be time to vent in the appropriate manner after this weekend but first we need everyone pulling together for the tribute act coming to Celtic Park.

Every man, woman and child needs to get behind our team, the champions and back then fully in full voice and colour.

If there are any errors on Sunday let's support the Bhoys and not knock their confidence any further. These players have earned our support imo and I'll be willing them on more than ever.

Time to unite for the team on the park and push them towards 3 points.

COYBIG.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

31 Aug 2018 22:38:20
Exactly COYBIG the players need our backing, without it they are the ones who are likely to make mistakes. They don’t need the added pressure of the fans frustrations. let's drive them on in Sunday’s game by singing our hearts out with CELTIC songs.

31 Aug 2018 21:47:52
"Every decision we make at Celtic will always be in the best interests of the Club and our supporters. It is vital to make clear that we have never promised any player that he can leave the Club at a particular time. It has never happened. In fact, we have said all along that we did not wish to sell Moussa, given the circumstances within the transfer window and that is why we rejected a significant offer yesterday. However, this particular decision to accept this offer has been taken in order to serve the best interests of the first-team squad, my coaching team and the culture and environment we have created in these last two seasons. The Board and myself are united and they have been very supportive to me on this issue. Our real focus now turns to Sunday's match and beyond, working with our players here who are committed to doing all they can to ensure another successful season for the Club. Finally, I would like to thank Moussa for his contribution in our last two seasons and want to wish him well in his new adventure at Lyon. ” - Brendan Rodgers.

Gutted to see Moussa leave. Brilliant player (albeit a little injury prone)

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 22:11:29
We clearly have a disconnect with BR and PL which has proved embarrassing to say to the least, BR pre-match last night that MD wasn’t going anywhere as we don’t have replacement and post match states “anything can happen in 24hrs”. tonight MD appears to be away and no sign of a replacement . manager will be away next decent job on EPL anyone thinks otherwise is delusional . Negativity around our goings on this summer has been shocking . anyway HH onwards and upwards, pump that lot Sunday 🍀.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 22:20:30
Aye and did Brendan no say we needed a replacement before allowing him to go more smoke and mirrors . the worst transfer window i can remember they always speak about coming out them stronger well we've came out weaker go figure. very disillusioned.

* possible in next Couple of hours 😭🤦‍♂️.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 22:52:11
A desperate end to the transfer window . Many questions will be asked and fingers pointed at different people . My thoughts for what ever little they are worth

I don't think the Celtic Board or Manager started this transfer mad race for M D
My reasons are that Lyons fought too long and hard and possibly dirty to get their man .
They were really committed and kept pushing and lodging at least 3 written bids .
The idea that Celtic should have someone lined up to replace MD is brilliant in theory but I think nonsensical in practice . Celtic cannot contact a club and tell them if MD leaves , that would be great but surely if another club comes in and offers the same or a million or so more, then club will sell the player Celtic had arranged on stand-by . We are not an EPL or even an English Championship side with spare millions and when one of them sell a player, they can pay over the value for replacement player
Dembele really showed a nasty streak and is suppose to have called BR or/ & P L liars
He pushed beyond the level of decency and gave Celtic little choice . It was remiss of him or whoever was on his Twitter account to try to praise fans and blame others, trying to split us from Manager and Board . We have to remember Board and even Manager will be here with us fans for longer than most players .

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 21:47:20
For everyone that says we need a replacement for dembele that was always why we shelled out on edouard IMO.
What we need is a poacher. Someone different from edouard and griff who both like to float about.
I think we will use Christie as a third choice till January though.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Aug 2018 22:12:44
I got that theory in first you :-P

See ya Sunday (Y)

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 22:25:36
I think BR always expected to lose Dembele so bought Edouard. Then nothing happened and the Board were not happy that we had spent too much with no recovery of funds. that's why no other players were brought in. Now here is another one, Kouassi is being allowed to leave. Contract ripped up. The Kouassi singing was also another issue for the Board. BR was against selling Moussa. Board looking at massive loss this year unless they sell. BR once again loses out but players like Kouassi are his picks.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 22:33:24
Christie is pi$h, when's he showed he is a poacher worthy of the hoops? If Eddy was always a replacement then why isn't there a poacher lined up to replace Dembele? Never mind we have nice grass and lights.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 22:57:19
Johnnymac, trying to split Board and Manager is not helpful at this time .
Board &Manager recruit winners as a team
Board and Manager recruit losers as a team
Board and Manager fail to land their targets as a team .
If anyone thinks they are too good for this team, just like a footballer who thinks he is God's gift to the team, both should be moved on.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 23:06:11
Christie is simply not good enough and needs to go play at Kilmarnock or Motherwell that’s his level.

Jamiebhoy are you actually serious? He was there because that was his level and should never had been signed in the first place . Tell me what are your thoughts on this window and the forest if the season? Mines? I think the trouble has o my just started and why do so many players suddenly want to leave? No e of this rubbish last year, I see a hard season and a struggle and if it doea I an see the other better players going in huffs to work their ticket as it quite clearly works . Ntcham and Tierney will be next trust me, there's another 35 million when we do t make the cl next year because with this squad we won't and we know the board won't spend to get there .

Unless a suitable replacement comes in, within the next 2 hours its 100% not in the best interest of the club. Id rather take a slightly lower deal in jan and promise MD he can go then, with our strikers injury record i can see us having spells of the season where either christie or sinclair will have to be our striker which just isn't good enough.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 21:28:30
Agree Tony, wish they might have seen something so far fetched as a bid for the Moose and had a fella amend lined up . Shambolic window . Does the board want a strong ' Old firm ' ( I know they died )

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 21:51:21
I don’t see how Celtic have done the right thing here. Rodgers said himself “ no player has ever been given a time they can leave” so what’s dembele’s tweets all about then? I don’t care what anyone says, dembele signed the 4 year deal, respect the contract, respect the club, respect the fans. taking his moods to social media to force a move is pathetic.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 21:58:25
Tony I couldn't disagree more. I am sick to the back teeth of signing young players who despite what the coaching staff do for them, show not the slightest interest in playing for our club as soon as the pound signs appear in front of them.
Instead of having the slightest bit of gratitude for helping them in their careers, these players would have you believe that they were being kept in some kind of slavery.
I think we have to try and move on from being a club who develop players for everyone else. If we invested properly in the squad we should be able to have players who have their best years here rather than just a training ground where other clubs to pick their talent from.
I can never understand why there is such a lack of ambition from the people at the top of our club, they continually fail to strengthen from a position of strength. These policies have seen us fail to qualify for the Champions league in 3 of the last 5 seasons, in any other business that would be seen as failure and the people at the top held to account.
I will always support my club, but the people running it are taking us for fools. They are more interested in their bonuses than growing us as a club. They are a disgrace.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 22:20:12
If he went for £20 million, we have paid out about £3.5 million in transfer fee and wages. £16.5 million profit.
It was definitely the right thing to do and Boyata's bid from Fulham should have been accepted as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 22:44:00
Gerry, it's simple, it's run as a business to make profit . As few a risks as possible ( big money signings ) and we've been out spent by our neighbours for 3rd time in a row . Imagine we did spend a little more than them every time with a rear made player for the first team and a very promising youngster rather than punts on spl pish.

Birminghambhoy I think it was more the negative damage that B R was afraid M D would bring to the squad . None of us know exactly what image M D was demonstrating and how troublesome he could become . We have to trust B R made the right call.

Interesting to see Salzburg and Leipzig drawn in the same group. Thought that would have been prohibited to have two teams owned by the same company taking part in the same competition due to a conflict if interests. What would happen if Leipzig have qualified and Salzburg need them to lose to qualify, can imagine and entire team getting rested!

One of 2 things have happened. Either it’s a sale and loan back which I can’t believe as Lyon want Moussa for CL or Moussa has told BR he won’t play again. According to the French papers, Moussa is on 100,00 Euro a week? Now I find that hard to believe but that’s the rumour. That being so, with CL opportunity, chance to shine in France and get into the national side, I don’t blame him. From our side, he has hamstring issues. If it goes wrong between now and Jan you won’t get £20mill.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 20:40:59
This is what i believe happened. The deal to sign Moussa was agreed at 11am. BR told Dembele during training that an agreement had been reached and Dembele went off to meet with his agent and Lyon officials. There was no falling out as reported. BR told him to go get changed as the deal in principle had been agreed. As of now nothing signed however it will go through.

31 Aug 2018 21:20:03

I seem to be the only bhoy happy with our buisness this window. Smashed our transfer record on Eddy which is a cracking signing! We got a CB which we all agree we needed. Arzani looks more talented than Roberts imo, Bain should No.1, Izzy and Mulumbu are solid signings. Kept our best players and player sales have balanced the books. Would be over the moon of we managed a RB tbh. Boyata and Dembele will just have to respect the contracts they signed or if they'd prefer they could earn big money moves to big clubs by starring for the development squad👍 Roll on Sunday.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

31 Aug 2018 19:12:23

Brendan Rodgers press conference:

"For Moussa, there's never been any promises but there's always been a plan. "

Based on the limited insight available, I'm siding with the club on this one. It's no secret that Moussa is here to develop and then move onto a better league but, as BR said, any bids have to suit all parties and regardless of whether some supporters or Eds think we need a direct replacement, the manager does and I support that. That being said, it's clear that we need to step up scouting a replacement in time for the January window and get this resolved.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

31 Aug 2018 17:32:15
Celtic pride themselves on their professionalism. Do everything behind closed doors, plan for any outcome and work on a business plan for 2/ 3yrs down the line.

We the fans lap it up and laugh at the amount of statements the persons issue. Their level 5 on spin, how we don't stoop that low. We brag about our wealth and how we just turn up and win the league.

After this shambles of a window maybe some will wake up and realise Celtic plc are spineless cowards and only intrested.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Aug 2018 18:41:42
Since when did we say swe just turn up and win the league?
How easy do you think it is to attract quality players to a league that is rubbish and you have to play 8 games before getting near the CL.
Also we offer guys £20k a week and a bottom of the league team in the epl can offer 3 times that.
But hey let's call the board spineless when we don't know the business that goes on.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 19:15:52
Jonbhoy to an extent you are right. However teams like Aberdeen, Hibs, Hearts can't get near paying players £20k a week. In the SPL we are not exactly punching above our weight to win the league. We should win it by 20 points or why are we paying players such big wages compared to everyone else?

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 15:57:36
Even allowing for the permanent deal to sign 'Eddy' this has been one of our worst 'windows' since they began. Not only because we made a horses arse of the McGinn situation, and are scampering and dithering at the last minute - because we are used to that - but because we now seem to have two very unhappy/ unsettled players.
I really hope we can fix this today?

Kouassi been told to leave

{Ed002's Note - It was restructured last summer so RB are not the owners on paper - that satisfied UEFA.}

31 Aug 2018 15:01:33
Hi 002, Me and 007 were talking funnily enough the other day about these two clubs with talk about us becoming a part of the Man City "feeder" clubs. Am sure you would agree you can achieve anything " on paper "

But as I alluded to below this is one messy group we have already played Rosenberg for CL entry. These two "paired" clubs factor in us and Sevco won't be allowed to play in Glasgow in the same night and they have an Austrian team in there group . Cannot see the "beaks" being happy at this group can you?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is what it is Jamie. I am not sure who or what the "beaks" are. Is this one of those street corner gangs or something.}

31 Aug 2018 15:20:11
Lol 002, No it's the power brokers at Uefa

They keep teams apart in CL when they go through but fully accept that is a different tournament. We faced Rosenberg already this season and imagine if that RB game comes down to say one of them needing emmm " a result " wink wink

Just think it's really messy that's all (Y)

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No, there is nothing wrong with the draw. You sound like Liverpool fans, they always think there is some conspracy against them. Which "power brokers" are you referring to? Why would anyone at UEFA care about Celtic at all, or indeed either of the other sides? It really is what it is Jamie.}

31 Aug 2018 15:49:26
Don’t look behind you! Ed is right. We are a nonentity in European terms. They don’t give a flying feck about us and won’t be plotting our downfall.

We can do that with Lawell at the helm without any help. Or, have you been in a coma these past ten weeks.

Agree0 Disagree1

31 Aug 2018 16:25:52
Thanks 002, No I don't think it is a conspiracy but I do think it is personic to have two teams that are that close in the one group or have that common denominator and throw in we played Rosenborg already it's shambolic

If Country teams can be kept apart at CL level and teams that met in the group stages kept apart in draws how can these factors and other factors like above not be placed into the equation or is it because it is not the CL.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There are rules and the rules are being complied with. They are not going to create new rules to address the concerns of any paranoid Celtic fans. I am not sure what other factors you are referring to. I am sure it will be idea if you need excuses later.}

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 17:28:34
I would think Dembele and Boyata will be sold but as Kev says it will be on our terms. I reckon BR is doing a great job of managing two difficult players at the moment who may go on to turn in good performances till we decide when they will leave. If this situation was going on at ibrokes right now, the Scottish press would be full of praise for Steven Gerrards handling of the matter. Because it'sus, it's a bad news story.

Calvin Miller away to Dundee on loan. I hope he gets a lot of game time in his prefered position in left mid as any time I have seen him he isn't comfortable at lb. He was supposed to be one of the best midfielders in the world for his age group a few years ago so hopefully he can showcase that.

I JUST can't UNDERSTAND WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH US JUST NOW 1 You would think we would have agreed a fee before letting any one talk to another club 2 You would think a replacement was in position BEFORE YOU LET YOUR PLAYER TALK TO ANOTHER CLUB. really bad management again Celtic.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 14:01:43
Just sounds like Lyon tried to low-ball us on the fee. Perhaps there was an implied evaluation that they failed to hit in their (first) bid. Dembele is not an 18M player and if they want him they'll just have to stump up a plausible amount of cash.

So we all agree this transfer window has been a shambles, who is to blame
Main contender Lawwell he has messed things up big time and in the process tried to undermine both Brendan and our team spirit.
Next so called "head of recruitment" Congerton wtf is his job, it does not appear to scout players, as Mulumbu was available and under his nose all summer, yet we only sign him on last day of window, an unfit player who will take weeks to get up to speed, by the way, same as the boy Arzani who is not ready for first team either.
Boyata and Dembele who are both working their ticket, Dembele has previous as he left Fulham in same way as he is trying to leave us. Both just chasing bigger pay days.
Rodgers, yes Brendan, who has allowed this situation to fester and get out of hand, he has made so many mistakes in handling all this crap.
Dermot Desmond, as the big boss, he should have hauled Lawwell and Congerton over the coals for their ineptitude.
We need to now put all the bad feeling aside, get shot of any player not wanting to play for our great club, and then get the togertherness back which has won us the double treble.

What scouting network? If anybody thinks we have one, could I suggest you put down the crack pipe and seek psychiatric intervention today.

We go for Malumbu, a free agent available since the final whistle of the last game of last year.

Benkovic a loan player who we coukd have got for the CL if he was scouted.

Not even a taxi driver rumour of a RB.

12 hours to go and Rogers hinting no more. Maybe he’s just preparing us, or maybe Ed will be right and another couple will materialise. Let’s hope so, particularly a RB.

If Moussa goes today, we have only two strikers. No back up. Shane Long has been mentioned. Jesus H Christ, if that waste of space is an option I would rather go with no back up.

Our scouting system seems to be. Pick a list Lawell won’t buy. Don’t try and tell me any of the panic aquisitions were on any list.

We need to ship out most of Rogers crap signings for they are legion. Paying money for players who will never feature is a major failure by him. He bought Hendry and CONpere. About as near to Celtic quality as my cat.

It’s going to be a long day. My advice would be expect nothing. Doing nothing is something our board excels at. That’s something we are world class at. They will continue without being held accountability or sanction.

Well said kev. Couldn't agree more. I have had enough of players rubbish this window. Love dembele but if Celtic get a right price and more importantly he wants to move then let him go. He served his time.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 08:42:31
I would let Moussa go personally. This is the time to get the prime price for him as there is no danger he will sign a new contract now and he will go for a smaller fee next year with a year to go. We are now going to have 2 very unhappy players in our squad come tomorrow morning.

I think our scouting and recruitment teams need to take a serious look at themselves. We should be prepared for every eventuality and have at least a list of targets should we lose a player at short notice. There has consistently been interest in Moussa and we should have had someone lined up to cover this scenario.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 08:49:59
Come on kev, dembele has always been a model professional. The boy is from France and he clearly feels its a step up in his career.
The club have every right to reject any bids but the player also has the right to feel upset.
If he stays and as long as he remains professional I have no issues with him what so ever.
Playing a youth player is not the answer.
Dembele has done nothing wrong.

Aye dead professional.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 09:06:26
I agree with kev, If a player doesn't want to be here then bye bye.

However, let's get real as well. The board clearly sign players under the promise that if they get a big bid then they will sell.

The board have broke that promise to two players.

This is yet another problem with the buy and sell mentality, aye financially you can balance the books. superb but you end up with too many players distracted.

Some players already are thinking about leaving us before they pass our medicals.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 09:07:29
Got told Lyon hadn't meet Celtics valuation. Dembele can stamp his feet all he wants. If no one bids Celtic valuation then he's not going anywhere.

With no time to get a replacement it will need to be a big fee.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 09:11:48
One of the key factors in our success so far has been our team spirit and only last season Broony was comparing it to the Sevco debacle. Now we seem to have two unsettled, unhappy players and that can really affect harmony and moral within the dressing room.
It puts us in a helluva dilemma; do we sell now and can't replace, or delay until January and risk getting less cash and have two players with other things on their mind and the fear of avoiding injury?

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 09:22:10
We’ve always known that possibly 2 years into his 4 year deal dembele would probably go, Brendan has said as much numerous times which makes me wonder why have we been so short sighted in seeing this coming? What on earth is our management team and scouting network playing at? We should already have a list of potential targets for this situation if and when it arises. I fully understand it leaves us with no time to do much but , we’ll eventually agree a deal to let dembe go today which no doubt should get us an substantial fee but it’ll be the same old crap from Celtic in that “ we had to sell but had no time to replace”. very very poor from our side if that does indeed end up being the case. after tonight get shop of Lee congerton and his scouts and start again. At this rate we’d have been better sticking with John park.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 09:25:23
Tesla there is no way our board made promises to let player go just because big team come calling.
What will have been said is that come to us we will help you build your career and you will get your big move.
We won't stand in the way if our valuation is met.

Agent could have got a release clause put in as well remember.

These player signed a contract. If they wanted promises they should have them in the contract.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 09:26:10
I couldn’t agree with Kev83 more! If a player is willing to play the “my heads not in the right place” card then it’s time to go. The only concern I’ve got is if Lyon haven’t met the clubs valuation then the club have every right to say NO and the player needs to understand that and continue to be professional. I’m also worried about a replacement so
Close to the deadline! Edouard and Griffiths are brilliant players but aren’t exactly injury free! HH.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 09:35:04
Guys, our club is not only incapable of buying players, they are also totally inept at dealing with player who want to move on. I suspect that today will end up with more negative outcomes than positives.
There is clearly a major breakdown in communication behind closed doors and it's feckin shocking that a club like Celtic can allow that to happen. I don't know who is at fault individually but between them there is a massive scrap going on and if history is anything to go by then Lawwell will win. And that's not necessarily a good thing. HH.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm sure there will still be maniacs who will back this board despite their failures which seem to get swept.

So far

1. Needed new CBs, didn't buy them and crashed out of the CL qualifiers to an average side with sloppy errors at the back

£40 million lost.

2. The manager has had complaints about not getting backed and now 2 players have had complaints about not getting promises met.

3. looking to sign a guy on loan that we could have got for £7-8mil a year ago, which we could 100% afford. Then we could have sold later for double.

4. Potentially losing one of our main players in order to make up for the money lost from gambling on our CL fate by choosing to spend absolutely nothing.

oh, except a big fee on Eddie which was covered by Armstrong and Sviatchenko sales.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 08:18:26
So what's happening with Boyata?
There doesn't seem to be much interest in him from other clubs. Even if a club does come in for him do we let him go? BR has stated how important he is to the club. What a fuster cluck of a transfer window we have had. An amateur club would be disappointed with similar transfer tactics. HH.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

31 Aug 2018 08:03:07
A player that is not good enough to make Leicester squad and someone who has been a free agent for months! Really, is that it? Both might be decent enough players but where is our ambition and scouting? Benkovic only became available this week so did we not have one CB lined up? And still no RB when everyone knows Lustig is nearing then end. Gutted. 😩.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Aug 2018 08:28:04
If that's all we sign then I'll be extremely disappointed but not surprised. For years now we be been getting screwed over by PL and co. Until someone new comes in with some sort of ambition then PL and co will continue to hold our club back.
Over arrogance and no ambition what so ever.

It is very poor from PL and the board unless something major happens. I have to say when u look across the other side how they backed their manager. I understand if l get pleters for saying it. But they have speculated to accumulate we have not. I'm not sure how a team who has millions in the kitty spend very little while one who apparently has none can spend on what a manager wants. BR must be pulling his hair out.

Loans and Free transfers - Cheapskate Celtic.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2018 10:35:19
This close season has been an unmitigated disaster. A complete shambles of dithering, ego led negotiating and complacency.

We missed out on McGinn through penny pinching. We failed to strengthen a defence that isn’t fit for purpose when full strength, never mind missing Boyata through the WC. They failed to realise he would want to go after it and we went in with Hendry which proved a disaster.

It took us to 24 hours to get in a loan CB who won’t be here for next seasons attempt to qualify for the CL next year, if we win the league. 8iar is in danger never mind 10. Rangers, that ckub the Phil the Storyteller has claimed were a day away from folding for the last six years, have outspent us with two years CL money.

We have seen the horse bolt with a bag of cash upward of £60m strapped to it through three goals conceded through defensive incompetence. Incompetence everyone but Celtic seemed to recognise.

It’s the last day, think about that, the last day of a long window and we have bought nobody new. We have a loan of a good player. We still have Lustig as the main RB. Some are claiming that at least two more will come in today and I hope they are right. We feckin need there to be. Our players though, not ones that piss off at the end of the season leaving us back to square one.

If Lawell cashes his bonus cheque after his abject failure, he should be ashamed. It will be nothing short of theft. Being rewarded for costing us an absolute fortune is a scandal.

I thought I had seen it all regarding Celtic and their absence of balls and ambition. This year has been by far the worst illustration of ineptitude and cowardice yet. And that’s saying something.

We go into the first game against a team our failure to act has emboldened. How can anybody even think this window is anything short of disaster? The best that can be said, if we add a few players today, is it is too late to rectify where we currently are and unless we actually buy defenders we are back to square on at the end of this season. Why wait until January to buy players we all know we need? Do we actually believe we will do that and not act as we did last year by going cheap and bringing in players who are actually worse than those we have and who failed to prevent utter tankings in last years CL.

Nothing can be taken from this close season other than it was executed dismally. We still have no Celtic defensive players on our books. We haven’t replaced Armstrong or Paddy. Moussa could still be away and if he stays us unhappy.

How long can the support give Lawell et al a bye when they continue to be in a position of running about on the last day trying to get players bought, not loaned, but players we need?

We are in this situation through incompetence and failing to do what needs to be done. If Lawell cashes a bonus cheque after all this it will be a scandal. There seems to be no accountability regarding his handling of our hopes to move forward. How can any Celtic fan stand for that?

I have said many times on here that Rangers wouldn’t bring us down, we would. Step forward Lawell, firstly McGinn, then scrambling, making a bid for McKenna who was obviously not on any list, or he would have been approached when the close season started.

The most tragic thing is no one is surprised at our failure to get things sorted. AEK are in the CL, there thanks to three schoolboy level defending goals lost. £65m gone. Yet, Lawell keeps going and has a £1m cheque to cash.

I wish I could honestly say you couldn’t make it up, but we all know it’s our form. Anger and disappointment at being short changed yet again, is the feeling of the vast majority of fans.

They are right to feel this way as our hopes have been shelved yet again by an aversion to invest. Anybody who claims otherwise needs to remove their head from Lawells backside and interact with reality.

Sunday’s game now takes on a greater significance. We can and should still beat them. My belief is had we tooled up properly, the confidence would have been soaring, we would be in the CL and we would have hammered them.

Shameful incompetence has given them hope. We shouldn’t even be giving them the steam off our piss, never mind hope.

Once again board, you blinked and lost the hand when you had all the aces. I hope you can sleep at night.

If what Brendan is quoted as saying last night that Mulumbu and the centre half from Leicester are the only two coming in then that disappoints me. We're in desperate need of a right back, and while I'm not suggesting we go out and spend £15/ 20 million yet again it's a player who's been kicking about all summer doing nothing, played all season in Scotland last year and a centre half on loan that'll head right back down the road next season. Great scouting I'd suggest from congerton and co. The usual running about at the last minute panicking trying to get players in. The hierarchy at Celtic Park really need to have a look at our scouting set up once this window slams shut, just not good enough for me and they're probably in a decent wage. I mean how much scouting went into the Mulumbu deal? Guys been playing on our doorstep all last season.

Worries me that mulumbu has went to the end of the window before finding a club that would take him, why no pre contract last xmas or any of the months up till the end of last season, guy looked a player with killie so why did no one else sign him up, I know Swansea were interested at the end with us, but they bought John from sevco, so that shows their standard of player.

Morning all I wonder what today will bring hopefully a good draw for the Europa league group stage. Hopefully quality players in (2/ 3) if lucky and will Dembele b at the club? I say yes the odds are with Celtic but you never know?

I don't think we "desperately need a right back", gamboa has been great so far this season with lustig as back up, it's probably one of our strongest positions if gamboa keeps up his form.

Do you actually watch Celtic. Gamboa is a bombscare. Maybe looks ok going forward but can't defend.

The away game against Suduva he got took off as he was all over the place.

If BR does not rate Gamboa, he could always work on Hendry as right back as I think he could do a better job there than centre back.

Once a boy

He played Hendry at RB a few times. When Hibs turned us over at their ground last season he was brutal. He is was worse at RB than CH.

Simply not a Celtic player at any postion.

Dembele will stay
Mulumbu will sign
Benkovic
Another player in then our window will not have been too bad.

Morgan
Mulumbu
Benkovic
French Eddy
Kept - Dembele
Kept - Nitcham

Will be happy if this is the case tomorrow night. Other than that a great perofmance tonight just in time for the skelping of the tribute act. The pace in our team will absolutely terrify them when game starts. They will be punting long balls and rolling about the floor whilst kicking us. I reckon their extremely poor disclipline will continue. Moreles. McRorie, Moreles, Flanagan, Jack have I missed anyone. c'mon the hoops.

Is Dembelle happy to stay though?

We all obviously are but we already have boyata volleying the toys out the pram.

Good window with money in and out the club we've spent nowt and we're now developing players for the mighty Leicester.

AEK Athens drew Bayern benfica and ajax
Surely a group we could have got out off.

Why, we couldn’t beat AEK, and let’s face it, we see no benefit whatsoever from being in CL, we get absolutely hammered, then make an absolute fortune that gets stockpiled god knows where, then still they sell players and replace with free old men, totally fed up with Celtic board right now.

They will finish bottom probably without a point.

We would've been lucky to finish 4th in that group.

We wouldn't have been in that group.
We would have been in pot 3 with Ajax while AEK were in pot 4.

I agree. We would have struggled in that group. No insentive to qualify these days, as we never get the benefit of using the rewards. Unfortunately Celtic are a champions league name, but sadly we are a Europa league team.

We'd have finished 5th in that group.
