All that speculation this evening and nothing happened. Disappointing.
We are seriously lacking up front for a Champions league campaign.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I suspect the complete lack of competition is feeding the board's famous appetite for complacency. I'm sure we will be told it's all because of the early transfer deadline but Russell was available cheap weeks ago and the Wanyama and Hooper transfers were timed to allow replacements to be bought.

Agree0 Disagree0

Disappointment is an understatement mate . They are really taking a chance on the mindsets of the fans . While we are looking in the windows of Cruise they are shopping in Primark . DH

A leftie. A quality defender. A defensive midfielder. A target man. A striker with decent pedigree. Another centre back for cover. is that not the type of players we needed?

Ah well that's it I guess, a special thanks to SPFL (or whatever they're called this week) for cutting us short 2 days in the transfer windy!
Would of loved to see another striker and big central defender but what can u do?
Hopefully this squad has it in them for a great champs league run. HH

To reply to DH, I'm not backing no multi million pound company nor do I work for them. What I was suggesting was that one of their employee maybe deserves the benefit of doubt .
I assume you never said anything you regretted after, hence your high moral standings and need to judge someone you've never met before and then judge someone who had the cheek to suggest that person maybe deserves a second chance .

Billy Mc Neill is a living legend in football and I have the utmost respect for him, I just feel the tweeter maybe needs a break .

I have nothing else to say on the subject and considered it closed . TTTS

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So if someone made a snide remark about someone you hold dear and you overheard it you would give the person " the benefit of the doubt " . I'm sorry but give the person a break fk all . DH

This may be a daft question but does anyone know why the transfer deadline for Scottish clubs is tonight on a Saturday when most players celtic will target are going to be playing and all other leagues are Monday night? Ed do you have any ideas?

Cheers
Darren {Ed007's Note - The SFA went against UEFA's written recommendation to extend it Darren, nobody knows why, their incompetence is probably a good starting point.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Crazy but not surprised

Thanks for Letting me know

Darren

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely the sfa need to come out and explain themselves on this one. They are the ones in charge of Scottish football and are in place to work at improving scottish football for the better. But even the dumbest asses out their can see that this decision has hampered every Scottish team not just Celtic by ruling all Scottish clubs out of picking up last minute bargains and loan signings from other leagues once they have all completed there signings. It also leaves us open to being raided for our players once our deadline has passed with no way of replacing anyone. Its all just typical of the sfa and just shows there incompetence. Surely Scottish football fans deserve an explanation from them on this which I was expecting today but there has been nothing. Are they that pompous that they think they don't need to explain there mistakes. Rant over!!
Fity1888

Agree0 Disagree0

Poor SFA. Why is everyone having a go at them? This is an association who have never let the obvious or any facts get in the way of making a decision to suit their agenda and no one else's. Explain their decision! Behave yourself Bhoys. Has no one been following the explanations from our footballing intelligencia on the decisions they have made regarding a group of lying, cheating, contemptable robbing group of individuals who, having disgraced the association, it's members and fans are currently in the process of repeating the whole scenario and this time including its own directors.

I still think Johnny russel at £740k would have bang in 20+ goals in Scottish premiership and Amido at twice that cost will take time to get going.
I've always been a huge fan of Mackay-Steven since he made the old RFC right back loan lad from EPL look pedestrian.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Russel three goals in four games for derby ( 2 penalties).
Not a bad start, compare with our lads over three first games.

Agree0 Disagree0

FFS. Enough of Russell! We should have, but didn't get him, he's better than what we had at the time and probably better than what we have now, barring Pukki only because I'm not judging someone whom I've not seen yet. Balde, total waste if money and if I'm honest I don't even know what the project is with this guy (well I do actually lol but it's no gonnae happen)

Bigbadjohn

Agree0 Disagree0

Today typically showed what Johnny russel and Mackay Steven could have contributed to a hum drum typical spl game. Bayearn Munich have a strategy of buying the home grown German best players. They bought goetze from Dortmund for €32m. It's what u do as the top team. Old RFC did it. Why we haven't exploited it I don't know.

Agree0 Disagree0

@3) it wouldn't surprise me, as SEVCO are dead, that PL agreed with SFA not to plunder Scottish football and keep it looking competitive even though Sellik will win it by 20+ points. I expect Mackay Steven at Sellik next year after more experience.

Agree0 Disagree0

@4 Watched GMS today, did nothing to hurt us, not a Forrest fan but he is better than GMS, don't think he would be a good buy for Celtic

Really though Virgil was excellent today and so was Efe. He has no been my cup of tea the big man but I would be delighted to be proven completely wrong.
Agree with the post below. Started well but lacked any creativity. Was a good chance for Boerrigter to show his class but he had a quiet game. We looked leggy but that was to be expected.

Joeshmo1888

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thought the 2 centre backs had a great game. I really hope this is our first choice partnership for the season ahead as I feel they have the potential to compliment each other well. The more they play together the better they will get.
On a side note I just want to say how impressed I've been with the work ethic of Stokes and Commons since the start of the season, especially Commons. I've never seen him try so hard in terms of pressing opponents and chasing back. Long may it continue.
cw-88

Agree0 Disagree0

Thought we played well enough at the back and Lustig was also excellent until he got injured. Brown and Ledley have been a bit below par lately but they are the type of guys that will play through the dips in form and still get involved.
Most flair and imagination coming from Stokes and Commons and the new arrivals will all contribute a lot.
We do need a penalty box poacher to help convert these crosses though.

Right that's that game out the way win in the bag, come on celtic everyone can see from that game we need centre forward who stays in the middle of the pitch, someone who can break a defence with a pass, I really think the defence are coming on great efe and Virgil looked good today. Got until 2300 to show us fans you mean business and not at it.

For decades I always expect 50/50 decisions to go against us (offside, throw-in, corners etc) but the amount of 'honest mistakes' the specsaver squad make is too hard to take sometimes.
Gunning should have got a straight red and a penalty kick awarded against him for violent conduct - but what a surprise not one of the four honest men saw it!
On the game itself - a lot of possession but only a few chances. Getting to the bye-line plenty but need to get on the end of crosses with more willing to get into the box and attack the ball. Playing well enough to win and stop this CL hangover patter that's flying around.

Hi Ed, I believe Celtics efforts in the CL to date have earned a bonus of over £2m to be shared equally amongst spfl clubs.
a tidy and much needed sum of money for most of these clubs.
therefor you would think at least one chairman would have been in the papers praising neil and the team on their acheivements.
so far zilch?

Now I know the Rankers are now defunct, but can you imagine the debt of gratitute the spfl would be due them.

there would be directors queing up at Iboak to carry Walter and his assistant shoulder high up the marble stairscase.
two carrying Walter the rest trying to carry Ally.

benny bhoy {Ed007's Note - They would need to be careful on that staircase, history has shown how easy it is to fatally 'slip' on it.}

Guys com'on

We done well to spend as much as we have over the window. You should really read the accounts before saying we are cash rich even with all the incomings player sales CL money and the like. We are servicing a massive debt due by 2019 don't forget one false move by PL and we could lurch towards a badly run club. But listening to you guys you'd think we could go and pay 5mil before the window shuts. Your speaking from heart not the head. We are not debt free the accounts will show this.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

A fair post if true. If PL came out and said we need to pay for Lennoxtown and that's why we can't spend people would accept that, but we are told the club is financially secure and generating profits from sales and CL money. If there are issues as have been raised in the recent accounts there should be greater transparency and honesty.

Covering up financial issues is a dangerous step and disrespects the fans. {Ed007's Note - It's hardly covered up when it is in the accounts and it is nowhere near 'massive'. In our last accounts our cash balance matched the long term debt. It's a total non-story being peddled by a scummy bigot and his cohorts. Anyone with any nuance of business or accountancy will tell you there is nothing to worrying about.
If the bank called in the loan tomorrow we would negotiate a settlement figure, the bank would be liable for all outstanding charges so the total owed would be less and it would be paid in full.
It also states quite clearly in our accounts that our nett debt is around the £200k mark. Everything is there in black and white for anyone to read, it's the understanding of accounts zombies seem to struggle with, where were all these accountancy experts when their old club was dying?}

Agree0 Disagree0

A person in my work was bragging (as if he could) that Celtic have £39m of debt and it could be seen on the net.has any1 seen or heard of this, love to rub it into him if not.ajw

Agree0 Disagree0

007 mocking use of massive. Fair enough bit EPL massive but massive to many. Of course 007 must get paid a lot thinking anything like that isn't massive. {Ed007's Note - How do you think I can afford this:

Ed007, I would like a chance to clear something up please. I came across a post slating me for mocking Billy McNeill on the Rangers page, which in fact was not the case at all.

Actually, the post was aimed at UEFA, they are the ones I meant should be embarrassed. What I meant was that having done a rehearsal (probably more than one) and seeing him struggle then (he stated in his column for one of the papers that he had struggled then as well), why would UEFA put him in that position in front of millions of viewers? He should have brought the cup out just the same and then they could have had someone else open the balls.

I understand why my post could be taken as offensive, I perhaps didn't word it correctly. But I assure you I was not mocking Mr McNeill. If any of you had access to my personal twitter/fb accounts you would see that I defended him and said how sorry I was to see him like that as I knew he wasn't keeping well.

Apologies for any offence caused, but it was not intentional.

Ed, anyone think we will bring in any one besides pukki? No mention of a cb tonight I would have thought some form of loan move(not that that's what I want) would be getting murmured tonight. If this is all that comes in( not saying anything bad about who we've brought in so far) but if that's it for beefing the squad up I think we have all been let down

Ed any chance of a poll for this cause i'm sick arguing with darrenbhoy about it and would like 2 see what the rest of the fans think. Would u rather finish 3rd in our group and try for the europa league final (which darrenbhoy wants) or progress 2 the last 16 of the cl and try our luck against the big boys again (what I want)? my argument is the europa is a joke now compared 2 the old uefa cup aye seville run was amazing but it was 10 years ago no 1 takes the europa league as seriously and if we did finish 3rd and went into it obviously I would want us 2 try and win it but my argument is that why would anyone say u would rather take 3rd place instead of last 16 and having a go after all we have been through with the qualifiers and the other night. Over 2 legs anythng can happen. Darrenbhoy its your oppinion mate and a respect it and cba arguing we both see it different but just wanna know what other fans think

GunnieBhoy {Ed007's Note - I'll set that up right away mate.}

{Ed007's Note - That's that set-up Gunnie:

Would you rather sacrifice a last 16 spot for a crack at the EL final?

The Europa league isn't a joke as you put it, I would love Celtic to win this competition, you're acting like those spoilt brats from the Epl . Mind you Chelski seemed happy to win it last year. Stevie

Ed007 (to avoid confusing you with the so called eds on the other site) I have to say you do a great job with the site mate! Well done!

Why not have our cake and eat it? 20 million champions league money. Finish 3rd in the group thus drop into EL and go on and win it. Dream scenario.

I just read an article on tv homepage about the coefficient points. Although Chelsea failed to qualify, they increased their coefficient points by winning the Europa League. The whole points thing is unfair and geared to assist the rich leagues. TinyTim

Stevie how am a bein a spoilt brat cause a said a would rather have a another crack at last 16 instead of europa league? that's what the debate is fs would u rather have a go for the europa league or the last 16 a don't see how that makes me a spoilt brat its a personal choice

As a celtic fan you always want to see your club be as sucessful as possible so when was third EVER better than second don't get me wrong third in this group would be fantastic and european football after christmas would be great I'd also love to see the celts lift a euro trophy in my life time and still see the europa league as a fantastic tournement to win a great addition to our c.v but celtic must strive to be the best the can be so second (if not first) is what we should aim for and if we land just short then third isn't such a bad place to be
Thanks to lenny and the bhoys for giving us the chance to have such worries

Aye am agreed with steavie you sound like an arrogant child gunnie, ac Milan, barca and ajix we will be lucky to get anything from that group. 3rd is a respectable place to finish in that group. I want loads of Euro football this season not 2 games after Christmas.
