The power of words indeed. I have heard it all now. Ronnie says we are under continual pressure. Really? He says we need win win win win domestically speaking and that it ain't easy. Well tell that to your assistant manager who rates scottish football as rank rotten! We have a squad that is three times larger than partick thistle's and I believe that the aggregate weekly wages at celtoc park account for around 75% of the rest of the SPFL. He says we are a selling club and that we need to build to succeed in Europe. Difficult I would have a thought for a selling club who trade their top talent. He says we are now looking for potential to turn into talent and if the talent is routinely shipped out, where does he CL nucleus emerge from? He says we are being routinely ridiculed in the media and that we get no concessions when it comes to criticism in for one think that defeats to Legia Maribor Malmo Molde red bull and a royal humping from Zagreb when they could have had ten justifies closer inspection and retrospective scrutiny.

I maintain we have not won a BIG match yet. Not a single one. When the heat is on. When we know we aren't expected to necessarily win. The report card reads AWFUL.

Ronnie spoke up. Big deal. I mean really? It shows us what? That he can speak. Alas. He can speak.

His tactics are one dimensional. There are few surprises with team selection. He plays out form players. He is hell bent on a formation that doesn't make the most of the limited talent that we have at our disposal. His repeated failures and that look of bewilderment isn't what we need at this moment

He basically spoke out and blamed media scrutiny and media questioning or bringing CFCs actual performances and progression in to disrepute. The bogey man that is Scotland's media

Sorry Ronny. I'm not part of the gullible masses. I watch my team and we are not progressing at an acceptable rate. Poor players are still poor. Mistakes are repeated

We are hopelessly predictable and look vulnerable all over the park. That is not the media's fault

Like you Ronny I want to improve. I want to succeed. I want to win things and be successful. I too want time to create positive change. But you sir are in the firing line because you sir have delivered below expectation in spite of our limited relative budget.

We expect and deserve better and creating the illusion of a siege mentality is hopelessly predictable too. I expected better. You have diverted attention away from the real source of controversy and that is your lack of experience for this job

I wish you well and I love my team but your speech did nothing to appease this worried fan. Tin hat on but then it's an opinion forum and before you start old bhoy, it's all about opinions and your rhetoric is wearing awfully thin

Folks are we really saying that in beating Molde RD deserves credit? Is that how far we have sunk?

We expect and deserve better, sounds like what our Govan friends use to say and we laughed at that . The problem in there are many teams in very many European League who through wages, climates, reputation of football played are able to attract better quality players than Scotland . Players who can play well in other leagues find it diificult to adapt in Scotland but Ronnie is working hard with a group of young players and if given time he will bring success in Europe .
If we change the manage we may or may not be in a better position to bring the club forward.

RD you have my respect finally he has come out fighting and I actually agree with all that he said. The put down to Rangers and all the other Scottish clubs was first class!!

Old bhoy

When I say we expect and deserve better I count five words all of which are in th English dictionary and free to use in any order. There is nothing Govan about it. I expect wins over Legia Maribor Molde Malmo Zagreb red bull and such like ( even sporadically) 23 games and 9 wins against very modest opposition is abysmal when you consider four d those wins were against Irish part timers. This is not, for me at least, an RD witch hunt. This is about the statistics. As a selling club we will be in perennial transition ( fine) and with that being the case we need a manager that can manipulate outcomes and get wins on the board through tactical astuteness. RD doesn't seem to have that Midas touch. You don't need a Midas touch to blow away the Dundee teams or cliftonville.

More time should make him learn from his mistakes but do we think RD is learning from his own failings? Did Malmo away or Molde away signify progress? If so can you point me in the direction for those statistics that would help me believe that? Yours in Celtic.

Great post PW I cudnt have put it better myself. You hit the nail on the head. While we have no divine right to beat those teams u mention in Europe (average as they are) to beat none of them is unacceptable to qualify.

Paradisewon football is not a game of statistics . I have not come across Celtic fan that wasn't disappointed with the result against Molde . It was a truly aweful result on a truly aweful night for football. Do you know what, these things happen in football, dwelling about it as supporters are unlikely to reap any benefits for the club .
So far Celtic have reacted correctly with three straight wins domestically . Let us supporters approach Thursday evening match with confidence and enthusiasm and will the team to victory .
It mightn't work but it's bound to be better than moaning and groaning and referring to previous bad results.

Obviously as a fan of Celtic I'd love us to be in champions league every year. I think that for too many people it takes over. If we get to last 16 it's an achievement, but we don't get a trophy for being in the 16 best teams in Europe. Yeh we'll get money, but we can't attract 10million pound players to Scotland. So Ronnie trying to develop players rather than spend big doesn't seem the worst idea

Before people jump down my throat and say it's a bad attitude and give the 'we are Celtic' line, I do want champions league, but I don't think we sack a manager for failing to qualify twice.

I agree and I think Deila is trying to build Celtic into having a better team in the long road . Like every road there will be bumps and hollows, if we can support Deila and his young team that he is building I think we will get there eventually . Getting there should mean that eventually we should be able to qualify on a regular basis for championship league and maybe some progress on occasions .

Would rather that a team was built for the long term, instead of being broken up every season, as whenever a decent/good player comes into the club then they are off within 2 years.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Oct 2015 08:32:35
Its all very well looking long term and all these youngsters coming through. Great if it happens but we have already seen what then transpires. The good ones are sold so we remain a mediocre club an nursery for the clubs with cash. CL - I can't see us ever making an impact unless something changes. Premier League - Turkeys don't vote for Christmas. Europa League - same as CL. SPL - Our dominant days will start to dwindle once the undead get back in and the sponsors start pumping cash back in and the smaller clubs invest the cash benefits the 'Old Firm' (I know all about this being a dead duck but that won't stop the media, SPL or even our own management from cashing in on that name) supporters will bring with increasing their gates.
Celtic need to change if we don't want to stay as also rans having glorious defeats. This change has to start at the very top with DD. Is RD the right man? My original thoughts when he joined were no - not strong and experienced enough. I mellowed due to a lot of supporters seemingly seeing something I had not. Now, I am back with my original thoughts. He is a nice guy but not for Celtic. As for Collins - what does he bring to the club, what does he actually do - can someone enlighten me on what major contribution JC brings to Celtic?

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Oct 2015 10:34:47
I'm not a Collins fan at all either, heard from every club he's been at that he's a total clown. I even had a training session with him when I was playing amateurs and he was trying to act the big man. Just a strange individual. I bet he can do more press ups than Kris commons though.

31 Oct 2015 10:34:49
JC brings very little. Kennedys work is clearly manifest in our steadily improving defence. Tongue firmly in cheek.

31 Oct 2015 10:48:42
We produce effin all in real quality terms. Players who are destined for Dundee or StMirren. If we have any good young players they come from hibs, Dundee Utd or other wee diddy clubs.

I can't remember any class players coming through our system for over ten years and even then it was only mcgeady.

A waste of time is the inky way to describe our attempts to grow our own.

Nt87 my great aunt ( 91 years old) could do more press ups than kris commons.

JC is a strange fellow. I think he is from Edinburgh case closed.

Agreed paradisewon, supposedly he used to race the team minibus back to Easter road from wherever they trained. He was on foot. Strange indeed.

He's really good at laying the ball off in the warm up shooting drills though.

Hi Ed, any idea when Cole will be match fit? Are we talking weeks or months here? Still carrying an injury?

Looking forward to seeing him in action, just what we need, big powerful option off the bench as Griff has been immense.

HH.

Believable6 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - I don't know how fit he is but he can't be far away now. It shows how far standards have dropped at CFC though when supporters are looking forward to watching the likes of Carlton Cole playing.}

30 Oct 2015 18:18:31
Must admit I've had a go at Ronnie and I think with sum justification when we're talking about his European record, but I must admit that his speech in his press conference really made me see how much this guy wants to succeed in this job! Gave the sevconian loving media both barrels! A victory 2morrow against the sheep and a good win against molde! Prove us wrong Ronnie and show us your the man to lead us! I for one wouldn't mind him shoving my words down my throat!

I was delighted with Deila today, I thought he was too nice and too decent a man to handle the Media mob, but in a very calm and collected way he got his message across.
Just seeing Leeds latest Manager falling two goal behind after six minutes and eventually losing by same, it shows changing manager isn't always the answer . Leeds have had nearly ten in less than a season and a half . The worse thing we can do is get rid of Deila and see him star elsewhere and us struggling with his replacement
Leeds problems all started with them spending Champions League money that they hadn't earned . I know those who advocate Celtic spending in order to qualify wouldn't expect Celtic to go as far as Leeds . But when a club goes into debt for future gain or qualifying it's like getting a girl a wee bit pregnant, just like a baby resulting, an out of control debt . There is no doubt we could have bought better, probably without spending more, we have mostly a young squad and with a young manager let us hope we are on the right road,
Deila has had target after target to keep his job and has managed most .

Good man Dh! Nice to hear! Pal!

30 Oct 2015 19:58:43
Old Bhoy. In my opinion, winning the league is pretty straightforward. We have the spend and the squad. There is no reason at all we should not win the league. So his target was CL. He failed 3 times. So for me the jury is out. No one, me included wants to see Ronnie fail because if he is failing then Celtic are failing. So I want him to do well. Winning the SPL is not enough. It's a one team race. The measurement for me is CL qualification. Now he has missed that 3 times. We need to take 7 points out the next 3 EL games or we won't qualify. Worse, if we finish bottom of the group then I would hold little hope we would qualify for CL at his 4th attempt.

Agree0 Disagree1

30 Oct 2015 20:37:08
When Jock Stein led Celtic to nine in a row, the Rangers didn't always finish second so whether Rangers were in the league or not was irrelevent . Similarly when Rangers bought their nine in a row Celtic were not always runners up and were irrelevent . The highest spending teams with biggest squads usually win the EPL but not always . We should win the SPL, we probably will but that is because the team is prepared best and has the desire .

Agree3 Disagree0

30 Oct 2015 22:34:41
Old Bhoy the team are able to be prepared better because of the depth of squad and quality of player. We pay around 10 times more in squad payments than any other SPL side. Give McKiness or John Hughes or any SPL manager the Celtic squad and he will win the SPL. So the desire or whatever it is may be there in the players anyway! Are you saying we are only winning the SPL because we have Ronnie? We would win it with any competent manager.

Agree0 Disagree1

31 Oct 2015 00:05:20
Johnnymac The key word in your post is "competent" . Once we agree we have a competent manager let us give him the time and opportunity to do the job .
Deila is attempting to build a new modern team filled with gifted young players.

31 Oct 2015 01:27:14
Thought Ronnie looked and spoke like he was nearing a breakdown and giving in to the pressure, what on earth was the point of mentioning rangers a lower league team, all i can say, is don't start blaming the media for you failings, it is an exercice in pointlessness, the only way to silence these barstewards is to start getting results, you have to start putting your stamp on the team, play more young ones instead of trying to mollycoddle some of the regulars to play better, you might be surprised at the performances, and if you can't do it just resign, you're still young, go somewhere else where you can learn and develop without all this goldfish bowl scrutiny, i would rather you stayed but maybe get an older and more experienced assistant to give you guidance.

{Ed007's Note - On one hand we've got people screaming that RD needs to find a settled team and play it without making changes just for the sake of it and then we have people wanting to completelt experiment in a match that if we even draw the hordes will be out screaming for the manager's head again.}

30 Oct 2015 16:24:59
I'm all for having a settled 11 if that 11 deserve to keep their place. At the moment that ain't the case. This 11 would batter that lot. There's an element in our support who will continue to shout for Ronnys head win lose or draw tomorrow.

Hi Ed.

Hope all well with you

I was thinking about LG. he was always a scorer of some outstanding goals. Some players just have that in their locker so to speak. My query is this. Has he actually improved or do we simply see his assets more so because he is up top alone ( ie bound to stand out from the rest because of the position he plays on his lonesome) . I have seen ( I think ) improvement in the air but has he improved dramatically? He still scores some outstanding goals ( he always has) but does he do enough to merit his new found fame and attention OR is he basically the best we've got and hence worry of any adulation that comes his way?

For what it is worth I think he has improved but not materially albeit any improvement is to be welcomed. An in form stokes wouldn't be a kick in the pants off 13 goals either if he had played as many games ( emphasis on ON FORM ) .

Would like to see LG play in a twosome ( ideally with Cole ) to see how that materialises ( even domestically)

thoughts ed

Ps hope the health is in check and being managed.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

{Ed007's Note - I'm keeping well thanks for asking. For me LG has vastly improved as a player over the last year or so, he's playing at a level I never thought was possible for him but I still don't think he should be the main striker at CFC, he'll struggle in Europe either playing upfront himself or with a partner.

30 Oct 2015 15:33:53
Ed can't really argue with you but I think he would be better playing alongside another striker who could hold the ball up or play him through. I don't think we see the best of him in the current formation as he seems to have to beat too many players to get a shot away. I agree however he is miles better than I have him credit for even 6 months ago. Would like to see him up front with Carlton Cole just to give it a try and see what happens?

Agree1 Disagree0

30 Oct 2015 18:24:59
I think Leigh Griffiths will score at any level for Celtic if he gets the correct service and support . One worry I have this season is that we are not getting enough men into advance attacking positions often enough . Our attacking three midfield men don't seem to be adventurous enough .
I know many of us fault the quality of crosses from Izzy etc. but if we don't have at least two but preferable three or four players in the box the like of Izzy is rarely going to create a chance from his cross.
