Use our rumours form to send us celtic transfer rumours.

30 Jul 2013 22:40:50
Having been on twitter tonight and seen a post from Elfsborg defender Skúli Jón Friðgeirsson and a reply from Alfred Finnbogason, I am under the distinct impression Finnbogasn is trying to keep things very hush hush as there may be a chance of a Celtic bid. Despite previous reports saying his agent has rubbished rumours that Celtic are interested, I reckon that quietly in the background somewhere, there is something in this.

I think our business so far has been what we have asked for 2 CBS creative mf and target man! Think Virgil will be a star with a run of games and balde we will have to see how we get on fine tuning his very rough edges lol and this bhoy seems cultured so let's hope they add that touch of quality! I'm sure what other business we need done will be done, let's just give the club the time they need rather than moaning I won't be happy I'd Doyle signs as I don't think he would improve us but there's no proof we have bid just paper talk I'm happy at the progress in Lenny we trust.

Has Boerrigter's squad number been announced yet? I'm just wondering if Lenny's ever going to give somebody the number 7. Maybe waiting until we sign a class striker in the next couple of weeks (we can hope)

@2) Miku was just a loan signing though and tbh I totally forgot about Ljunberg haha but we've not really had a number 7 icon since Henrik left.
Kevbhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

The last (decent) number 7 we had was scott mcdonald. He was 28 the first season ( I think?) and was given the iconic number 7 the second year. It had a bit of a curse on him I think as the goals dried up a bit but he eventually got on track again. I always thought skippy was great.

@jockdj83

Agree0 Disagree0

Whats the obsession with the number 7 jersey? you don't have to be a marquee or big signing to wear it the number 7 is nothing special its the exact same as all the other tops just different number.

CELTIC are delighted to announce the signing of Derk Boerrigter from Ajax on a four-year deal. And the Dutch winger will be available for tomorrow night's UEFA Champions League third qualifying round tie against Elfsborg.

The 26-year-old becomes Neil Lennons fourth recruit of the summer transfer window following the acquisitions of Amido Balde, Virgil Van Dijk and Steven Mouyokolo.

Boerrigter spent his youth career at FC Twente, where he was spotted by Ajax and joined the Amsterdam giants for the first time as a teenager.

Following a loan spell at HFC Haarlem, in which he made his competitive bow, he made the move to FC Zwolle on the expiry of his contract.

Benefiting from regular first-team football, the winger flourished at the Bluefingers, attracting interest from several clubs in his homeland.

Newly-promoted RKC Waalwijk won the race for his signature and he signed for them in the summer of 2009.

His impressive displays for RKC persuaded Ajax to swoop for his services for a second time two years ago, and he quickly hit top form in Amsterdam to earn his first call-up to the Dutch national side in November 2011.

Good evening my Celtic minded cyber friends!

I am going in for an operation early in the morning and won't be at myself for about a week or so afterwards, so just on to wish you all the best in your qualifier tomorrow night.

I think it's a disgrace that you have to qualify at all, so I genuinely hope you sail through the remaining two rounds and get to the group stages again. All Celtic/Rangers (or whatever you're calling us these days lol) banter aside, UEFA should be falling over themselves to have a club the size of Celtic in the Champions League, especially with the excellent support you all bring.

TV money etc may be important, but you can't buy a terrific support and by in large that's what the Celtic support is. Club's with great history and fantastic stadiums filled with fans who get behind their team and create an atmosphere are what make the CL great is you ask me, so the sooner UEFA and the rest of the suits realise all of that that the better the competition will be in my opinion. That plus the fact you are CHAMPIONS of your country, so should surely be in the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE either way lol.

UEFA logic, baffling eh!

Good luck again, though I doubt you will need it.

Cheers folks. {Ed007's Note - Sorry to hear that mate. I hope everything goes well, take care.}

Sorry don't agree. The compition should not be about size it should be about sporting merit. If we get automatic qualification for the group stages it should be because we've earned it.

Just looked up this play off round ed, it's true what people say, it's not the champions league any more. Why they screw a team as big as Celtic is beyond me. {Ed007's Note - It's a joke, it's all set out to make sure the 'bigger' teams get the majority of the money, by bigger I mean the countries with more TV viewers (customers).}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's not an open even sporting tournament. It's an ever sustaining financial reward system for large population countries teams.
1. Individual clubs should be ranked on their individual performances. It's not a "nations" tournament and nations shouldn't be ranked.
2. The money should be shared on merit and nothing else.

Until the above two points are corrected, the CL is a corruption. I've said it for years.

I hope we don't bid for Doyle as I think in Stokes we have a much younger model, who can run the channels, hold up and most importantly score more goals, as long as he matures and puts his mind to it.
In my opinion we need to concentrate on replacing the guys we lost ie: a 25/30 goals-a-season striker and a midfield powerhouse who can tackle, pass and impose himself like Wanyama did.
The current squad is very capable domestically, but we do need that bit extra class to keep competing in Europe as that is where the serious money is to keep the club in a healthy, progressive footing.
In my opinion a bid for Finbogasson or Rhodes, although expensive - would guarantee goals and hopefully success - and would serve as a great investment for future sell-on value if the situation arose and importantly would put bums on seats.
The SPL is not an attractive option for many, but if we are regularly playing in the CL group stages; the occasional star-buy will maintain the status quo.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What clubs do is compile a list of players then split that list into plan a players and plan b players rhey then approach clubs of plan a and plan b players and get deals sorted so its only arranging wages then if plan a can't agree terms they move quickly to plan b . then announce they were always our top target.

Just to add my tuppence worth to the Finnbogason debate.
I believe he will cost upwards of £5m but is young enough and talented enough for his value to rise.
Question is will board sanction a £5m bid?
My own thoughts are they will wait and see if we make group stages of CL thus guaranteeing us another £20m payday, before parting with any more money.
Lawwell will point out we have signed 4 players (if Dutch lad signs) for about £7m so some money has been released.
Your thoughts bhoys.ghirls and wee Pat. hh Timalloy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sound sense. I'm with you timalloy, no sense in forking out big bucks to sit on a bench if we don't qualify, we already have a good enough squad for the league. HH JOE

Agree0 Disagree0

This year Celtic have earned themselves nearly 40m and with virtually no debt. Recent reports are also suggesting season ticket sales are up on the last 2 seasons with all this in mind the board really need to loosen the purse strings for a Centre Forward!

I know there are other factors to consider such as wages and upsetting the wage/fee structure but this is not a rookie board that doesn't know what its doing.

You could be right though that they are waiting to see if we qualify but it could be too late by then ~ Mrs E

Agree0 Disagree0

@Timalloy: I think we should go to the £5m for this guy as there will be resale value there. Also some rumours that TWO signings will be announced today, one the Dutch boy and the other the Milwall defender? Or has Mr Lawwell got an ace in the hole?. green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

But if we qualify, is it too late to bring in a guy and register him for CL football. We hear all these deadlines. {Ed007's Note - The deadline for registering A-List players for the group stages is 2 September 2013 (24.00 CET)

Agree0 Disagree0

I was meaning too late as in we have not qualified at all. We left it too late to bring in a CF and did not have a player to take the goal scoring chances ~ Mrs E

Agree0 Disagree0

The celtic board should be making sure we get through the group stages if they don't they will have let the fans down badly, let's get some quality players in and get some daylight between us and sevco, because they will get back be sure off it meagle tim .

Agree0 Disagree0

I wish people wouldn't keep on going on about this banked 40 mil. The 40 million is not banked yet its money over the period of outgoing players contracts. I think the only banked money was the CL money estimated 15 mil.
This money is also the clubs future. Worse case scenario what if we don't get to CL group stages this year or if we do and don't get to last 16 we get less money. And if you look at the current squad there are no players that are close to the cash we generated from Wanyama in the squad barely another double out money player apart from Ledley possibly Foster. So 40 mil estimate going forward will shrink if the club are not prudent. I agree we need a 5mil finished article striker young enough to have resale but let's not just keep barking on about little debt and 40mil as first of all we need to survive grow to our business plan and not worry about ibrokes they will NEVER reach us again as their business plan is boom and bust

Agree0 Disagree0

@7 I did not say 'banked' I said 'earned' and the CL money is not estimated it has been confirmed as 22.2m from UEFA (not including gate receipts).

The money for Wanyama and Hooper maybe over a period of time but its guaranteed income - unless Southampton and Norwich cease to exist. I would also expect if Celtic do buy a player, they will also pay the fee over a period of time.

My point is Celtic have still earned themselves almost 40m recently and nobody is expecting them to be reckless but a wee bit of loosening of the purse strings would not go amiss ~ Mrs E

Wee1888, hope your daughter enjoys her first visit to Celtic Park.
I have been taking 2 girls for some time now, here is what I learned.
Bring an extra cardigan, ok weather is good but the stands at CP have a draught which can be chilling, my girls found this to their cost one August (yes August day)
Bring in your own drinks and sweets as kiosks are too dear and too busy. We take cartons of capri sun and bags of crisps and sweets, (remember the police will confiscate cans of juice even off a 4 year old)
Also remember there are some idiots who do not take into account a child near them and still shout and swear. I find the fans around usually tell these clowns to keep quiet if children near them.
Last but not least, I would either leave early or wait 10 minutes after game, as stairwells can get pretty congested and worrying about a 4 year old can be stressful.
My girls LOVE the atmosphere at Celtic Park and I am sure yours will too. hail hail Timalloy

Am thinking of taking my grandson along to at least one game this season, he's three, his dad also comes from the dark side so I was wanting to get him into football (Celtic) before he gets taken to Ibrox. What area is the most child friendly as I don't have a season ticket and can only get to games once or twice every three month due to work.

Vambo

Vambo there's a new family section over at the away section, the section that was previously set aside for Rangers fans.

The South Stand is also family friendly but can be more expensive.

Ed, If you had to put Money on Which Striker Celtic will actually bring in who do you think? Are we actually going to spend 4-5 million or are we dreaming? Is it going to be a case of disapointed again. We need a number 7 a hero to get us off our seats at Paradise - someone worth going to see when we play Killie of St Mirren! If we don't spend it now - We never will

I'll Give you my Shout . Kevin Doyle {Ed007's Note - I don't gamble, its's a mugs game :-) I am quietly optimistic that funds will be made available for a quality CF to be brought in.}
