Looking forward to tomorrow not sure why but I have a good feeling we will get someone to keep us happy so many names have been mentioned who would you like most mines would be hernes from Juventus.

Nearly received more than we have spent, hopefully another 1 or 2 in tomorrow, tbh I will be disappointed if we don't get a CM in. The money that has been generated so far should allow us the luxury of buying a creative midfielder. If we don't sign a CM it will show you want PL thinks of the fans.

Mon mate no matter what this has been the best window in years. Just because lawell has done what he's best at n balanced the books doesn't mean we're being taken for granted. Aye a midfielder would be good but we're already miles ahead in Scotland n we could spend the full 30 million n still finish fourth in the champs league.

Big signings are great, I will be sitting up tomorrow hoping for something special and befitting of our great club. The question is are we a better team at the end of this window than before. I think YES.

Hernanes! He would be the closest we have had to Lubo! Outstanding player with either foot plus can score from any distance! Fingers Crossed!

Evening Ed

Don't say it often enough but you run a great show and i love the fact that you comment when asked and articulate points voluntarily when you feel the need; so keep doing what you're doing

now to my serious point about ins/ outs and maybes

By the looks of it we could be moving on JOZO our (pre Toure) biggest hope for the DEFENCE

We have moved on our player of the year from 2 seasons ago who we all hoped would re-find his past form

we have moved on scott allan who many fans saw as a potential number 10 or back up to a number 10

we have moved on CKR, Fisher and rumours persist about commons. and a few others

now on the opposite side we have brought in sinclair (fee and big wage) , tour (free but big wage) and Dembele (free (ish) with good wage) and DDV (a 35 year old goalie) and we have Gamboa (who I must confess I don't know much about but do know that he has played 4 games in 2 years for West Brom)

IF Jozo does in fact go, and there is to be no more business to be done, given that we have in fact qualified for the Champions League and given that we are turning up in huge numbers with 52,000 season tickets sold (and match day tickets now being snapped up too) , do you think there has been sufficient INVESTMENT from where we left off last season (noting that our manager is obviously on £3m p. a + bonuses)

The reason I ask is because someone people think there is more to come. Some think that there NEEDS to be more to show intent. Some think we have effectively arrived back at equilibrium where the ins equal the outs in fees and wages. Some others may think that it was never (and should never be) about moving players on and finding as many players to come in, instead they focused on GOOD QUALITY coming in to replace a lot more dross going out.

I guess there are a few questions in there but given that we DID sell astonishing numbers of season tickets, signed a new shirt deal, and qualified for the CL. do you think we done enough to put a team on the park that is sufficiently good (with strength and depth for domestic and european matches? )

I remember a while ago under RD we ALL thought we had enough midfielders of quality. Then we questioned Brown, and then Johanssen, and then Bitton, and then Armstrong and then McGregor and then Commons and then Rogic and then Allan . it's funny how we have gone from allegedly BEING STRONG in the middle to NEEDING a top quality midfielder .

Anyway, back to my point. if there is no more ins/ outs. should we be satisfied or should we be upset?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed007's Note - Thanks very much mate, that's really appreciated.}

31 Aug 2016 00:57:19
I think we have had quite a good transfer window so far and hopefully with the right player in for midfield we could have a brilliant window . This window was a strange one from the outset . B R wanted to get the numbers down and I think he was hell bent on getting rid of faces who didn't fit and may cause him trouble . He, I M O wasn't interested in budget or anything else just get players in who he knew would do a job for him and fill what he had seen as weak positions . Balancing books wasn't or isn't his priority, getting a manageable size squad most important .
As we enter the final day of the transfer season and hoping it will be very busy may I take this opportunity to thank you and your fellow editors for putting up with an old moaner like me and when I wander into forbidden areas I don't mean to be such a disrespectful old codger, it's just the real me escaping Hail Hail keep the faith!

{Ed007's Note - You're very welcome, Chris. We've had our disagreements but I respect your opinion and I'd like to think that's a two way street now. Oh btw, Ed001 thinks you're an arse. :=D

30 Aug 2016 20:14:28
Ed so much stuff on Twitter about Mr Jack Wiltshire coming to Celtic on loan, odds have been slashed! And a lot of people saying he's in Glasgow! You heard anything?

Thinking out loud here. Any chance that Jozo was allowed to go because BR wanted to get Sakho in on loan? He's already turned down a couple of PL clubs, maybe fancies a crack at the Champions League?

Anyone else feeling really positive and happy the path we have gone this windows. Clearing dead weight were possible, bringing in quality not quantity. In my opinion a success and looking forward.
I think br needs 2/ 3 transfer windows to sort the squad mess in to a fully functioning one (were all 23 are part of a interchangeable team for the club)

Domestically we will have no problems, but I reckon we have too much of a soft centre and goalkeeper questions for the CL and lack a bit of bite and muscle in the middle of the park. Obviously we have some very exciting and able attacking players when we have the ball, but winning the ball back with the Likes of Bitton, McGregor, Rogic or Armstrong is a very tall order against decent teams.
Would like to see a class midfield player with a bit of presence?

Jez, It's quiet out there, if we are moving on a couple of bodies, someone must know something? maybe Jozo's private jet will bring somebody back on it.
Ed just a question, if Jozo is now fit and BR did not even get to look at him, was it something else or how long was this deal on the cards for?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - There was murmurings about two weeks ago of interest in Simunovic from Italy which the player himself said were nonsense.}

30 Aug 2016 15:45:52
Hi Ed : I am sure you will know or have an idea as to finances at CP , re net spend . By the looks of it we will come out of the transfer window in the black . Not the I'm complaining but great bit of work
HH.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - We'll have lost money if you look at total expenditure but without complicating things you're right that we've made a profit on the in/out transfer fees.}

30 Aug 2016 19:47:49
I was going to ask your superior knowledge on that Ed (yes) , simplifying things of course.

I take it by your total expenditure remark that Sinclair, Toure and possibly even Dembele are on bumper deals?

Do you think we'll have a busy couple of days? Bit gutted about Jozo, liked the look of him when he first came in. Surely it's to spend the money elsewhere. Have you heard anything about Hernanes?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Sinclair and Toure will be on good money and will have received substantial signing on fees as will Dembele who will still be one of the higher earners.
The only thing I've heard about Hernanes is that he will be off to Genoa if Rincon leaves.}

30 Aug 2016 19:51:19
Think our fans forget the wages for Sinclair, toure it's a good chunk of change! When does our transfer window close ed? And do u think much business will be done on the incoming side?

Best part of £6m taken in for 2 players and a substancial amount knocked off the wage bill with the rest that have left so far. Can we expect 2 more signings tomorrow. Would be some transfer window if we could plus released another 4 or 5.

30 Aug 2016 19:26:39
If we signed a quality midfielder and a quality striker tomorrow I think it would be the best transfer in history! Although I have to admit I won't be holding my breath! I do expect at least one addition tomorrow however if we pull off two I will be delighted.

It still worries me that Ciftci is the only back up should LG or MD or God forbid both be out for any length of time.

It'd been the best window in a he'll of a long time, and to think we've not spent a lot (net spend) . Only downside for me is jozo leaving. Just wondering if all this activity is PL just collecting money for greeds sake or if we are after the 2 players we need.
Not bothered about JS going he didn't want to play for the club that's obviously clear for all to see.
Hope to get a good creative player though as we will need one.
Thoughts?

Buddybhoy as we near the end of probably one of our most productive transfer windows in getting quality players in for areas we need and moving on players B R doesn't regard as of much benefit to us, what do u think P L is collecting the money for . ? Is it for his own personal use . I think he would hardly be so foolish to put his well paid job in jeopardy.

Agree2 Disagree2

30 Aug 2016 22:03:31
Old Bhoy

I think you may have missed a point…is it not conceivable that the riches could go to the executive team…the management team…and bonuses to players …as opposed to physical on the park investment to reward the fans for putting up with EURO torture?

I am not saying that PL is doing this or that but rightly or wrongly some fans may look at the season ticket sales, the short sponsorship deals, the CL qualification, and then work through the ins/ outs and conclude that we haven't actually INVESTED…we have basically dismantled a squad (rightly moving on players BR doesn't rate) and bringing in quality first team players (which is all well and good)

But where there could be an issue is where CFC are deemed to be sitting with a cash pile (physically or to flow through) and we haven't actually spent any of it.

I'm in business and so I well understand that some of the windfall may in fact be going back in to the pot to cover up the sins of financial misalignment relative to a bloated squad and wage bill (with many many ineffective players taking their "cut") …and so some of the windfall may be about RECOVERING the financial safe haven that we as Celtic fans seem to cherish (all good) …but its right to shine a light on the pluses and the minuses ….

to give you an example (albeit slightly absurd) …would you be happy if you found out that BR's annual wage has now doubled as a result of CL qualification taking his earnings to over £5m (with more to follow for a leave win and cups) …the reason I ask is that many fans would have thought the windfall would go in to player recruitment …some might well go in to player recruitment …but the point is that many/ many will become richer as a result of CFC's qualification …. that would stick in the craw a little if we had to watch our beloved hoops get routinely destroyed (due to direct investment)

By the way, I think PL does a great job and key stakeholders will know what he gets/ earns and know what bonuses he is on linked to financial performance of the overall operation ….

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2016 22:48:34
I'm in Business - that's a good line.

just a thought - as we know Scottish football is prated - 3 or 4 clubs could easily go under - I think was the quote.

Can anyone clarify exactly when we see this 30 million in cold hard cash.

Perhaps we simply do not have the actual cash to splash this very second.

I'm sure some of you have seen the latest biannual balance sheet - has it even showing a profit.

That's a more realistic position of our current cash at bank status - not some in coming £30m (which I have seen reported as low as £20m) .

No doubt we are in a good position financial and the team is squaring up nicely - but perhaps we just can't put our hands on £10m rfn.

I'm in Business (Christ I'm at it now) and sometimes cash flow is in the toilet in even the most seemingly sound companies.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2016 18:10:23
Hope we are not looking at any more loans, Drawback is this.
There will be stipulations that he plays a minimum amount of game time. and that's fine with Roberts who has been fantastic, however how many loan players work out that good.
I am not asking PL to spend £10m on 1 player but let's get the right player/ s in.
So far the team is looking good but there is always room for the right player.

Whats peoples preference for our last signing (s) ?

A big player on a seasons long loan (Lucas, Hernanes, McCarthy etc) ?

Or a permanent signing around 3mil who is relatively unknown but with bags of potential?

Second option for me. Every time. Got a feeling we might go with loan option though.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

30 Aug 2016 16:33:28
Ed the simunovic transfers a strange one did he want to leave and have you heard what the few involved is must say I'm disappointed in this transfer as I was looking forward to seeing Wht the big man could do this season.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - It's certainly a strange one buddy. A few people are saying today that he wasn't enjoying living in Scotland. If you're out for a long period during your first year at a club your head goes down, especially in a different country, look at Janko. He wanted out and RD told him to get himself fit and back training with the squad and playing before making any decision and he seems to have settled betters.

30 Aug 2016 17:30:21
ED007 and Stephen M, with a long term knee injury it may take him some time to completely recover, also we do not know what his mentality is like, maybe moving him on and getting our money back is best for all concerned.
I also think Rodgers has pencilled in Lustig for a CB berth so with Toure, Sviachenko, O'Connell, Lustig we are covered at the back now. Yes I know Efe and Boyata are still there but not counting them.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I reckon in a year or so we'll look at Simunovic and regret letting him slip through our fingers - I hope Pedro has had the sense to to get a sell-on clause in the deal.}

30 Aug 2016 18:10:02
I agree with you ed if Torino are buying him to replace maksimovic he must have some real potential and I think we will regret selling.

Agree1 Disagree0

30 Aug 2016 18:33:52
Agree guys a very strange one indeed and I'm a bit disappointed myself. I think Rodgers might be thinking (1) he's not my player (2) he's been injured and (3) moving him on will release the cash to buy my player.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2016 19:03:38
Ed07 I have no doubt been out injured in a strange Country before you even got to know your team mates would be very lonely and any relatively young player may want out . Have we lost a good un or is he " sick note" as some referred him to be . He was a surprised purchase and is now a surprised sale.

Agree0 Disagree1

30 Aug 2016 15:54:10
I for one am happy Jozo is off as Ed pointed out when we signed him Zagreb were happy to get shot of him and his reputation was that he was injury prone!

So Ed, You think there will be one possibly two in mate

What you hearing / thinking?

Position wise / price wise? (y)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I'm not hearing much mate. I'm thinking a midfielder and a striker. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see that Man City loan option looked at again tomorrow.}

Believable0 Unbelievable1

30 Aug 2016 16:53:55

30 Aug 2016 16:57:48
There were all sorts of figures flying around. Ed, was it not closer to 3.5m?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I'm sure it was 4 million Euros we paid for him.}

30 Aug 2016 17:50:56
Fee was between 3-3.5 rising to around 5 with add ons if I mind right.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2016 21:01:19
I think, we were not given an official figure, just rumours of what the price was with &, without adds-on.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2016 16:03:44
If the latest departure goes through we will have brought in more cash from sales than we've spent on transfers! Obviously signing on fees been a lot! Can see by the end of the window about 8 million brought in plus champions league money surely one or two more signings to come! would be happy with one CM and one attacker! Still think if BR can get Morrison playing he would be best signing! Hoping Hernanes speaks to coutinho for advice and we make it happen!
Still have a sneaky feeling were in for Sakho from Liverpool as can cover at Lb if needed! Another CB will leave?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

30 Aug 2016 16:59:52
Although I'm pleased with a few of the signings, by my guestimations too, we'll have made/ saved on fees and wages. It's all about being as good as you can be. Are we?

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2016 17:35:24
It has not been long since BR took over and he clearly had a clear-out in mind, but had to keep the nucleus of the inherited squad to tackle the CL qualifiers that were very quickly upon him.
Qualification was a primary target and although we struggled at times, the manager and players deserve enormous credit.
Since taking over, he has added five players right through the team -and is still building - while sifting out surplus players.
He has rejuvenated Forrest and has the team playing attacking football and scoring freely, while we try to find our best and most efficient defensive unit.

The CL group games and other cash raised from player sales have given us a great opportunity to invest in the team and raise the quality back to the standards we are used to, putting together and hopefully keeping a very good Celtic side capable of anything.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

30 Aug 2016 16:06:11
Must say I'm a bit disappointed that it looks like he's leaving. I know he hardly played but on the odd occasion he did play he looked solid and I was looking forward to him coming back into the team. Wonder what it means for the long term though as I can't see toure playing another year or two by this season so we'll be looking for another centre half in the near future. Just goes to show how difficult it really must be to get ambrose out the door when a teams willing to pay 3 maybe 4 million on a player who's hardly kicked a ball in a year yet we're still stuck with him.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2016 16:42:33
Ed do you think this means Toure will stay with the club another year or 2?
Sucks that we are selling him cause he looks good and a player we are going to regret selling as he starts to play. This is a really good CB and 1 of our best in the last few years even in short time. Hope we have a sell on clause cause.
I hope this means that we that Toure is in the plans for next year or 2 with the club.

Back 5 of
Gamboa Lustig Kolo Erik Keiran

Diamond of

Would be best transfer window ever if we can bag a LB to match new RB for cover and someone like Rhodes.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Just sounds like Lawwell is up to his usual tricks that he does every transfer window of bringing in more money than he spends, it should be duds like Ambrose and Boyata he is offloading if Jozo goes it would probably mean one of they two clowns being kept as cover.

Jamesbhoy67 wouldn't we need anot offer before we could sell ambrose and boyata?
Or did I miss that someone has made one?

Agree1 Disagree3

30 Aug 2016 12:25:37
We were talking about the Torino offer for Simunovic, i don't think any decent manager would make an offer for Ambrose or Boyata, we might be stuck with them.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2016 09:37:35
I really want Jozo to get fit and stay. The main reason for this (and slightly controversial) is I don't rate Eric Sviatchenko. His positional sense is diabolical. Gets turned inside out at times also. i'm hoping he improves, and there is also no doubt about his love for the club but he has loads to improve on in my opinion. Some Celtic fans think he is some kind of Franco Baresi. I just don't see it.

Believable7 Unbelievable10

30 Aug 2016 10:05:33
I think the bottom line is, we have been allowed either by poor judgement or panic to assemble a collection of very suspect central defenders and it will take BR a couple of 'windows' to sort it out.
He acted immediately to bring in Toure, but that is short-term; until he sorts out the problems with Simunovic (who has hardly played a game in a year? ) and off-loads Boyata and Ambrose.
Schiavchenko was caught out a few times against Aberdeen, but at present, he and Toure are the best and most experienced we have.

Agree2 Disagree1

30 Aug 2016 11:53:37
jozo never wanted to be here from day 1, i'd punt him, with the emergence of oconnell, plus lustig getting more games were covered in the CB position, even if we get rid of efe and boyata.

Agree1 Disagree2

30 Aug 2016 12:00:55
I think its been a real shame on o'connell being dropped out the picture the way he was playing it looked as if sviatchenko would be lucky to get in team. I have my doubts about sviatchenko also as he hasn't really been tested yet.

Agree0 Disagree2

30 Aug 2016 12:17:01
Sviatchenko will be the new fall guy if mcgreggor isn't playing by the looks of some of your posts lol.

Agree0 Disagree1

30 Aug 2016 13:32:56
Sviatchenko is a decent player and positional sense is good, the only problem o have with him is I think he lacks pace, and had been caught out sometimes with it, jozo, is too injury prone for my liking.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2016 17:24:51
Schviatchenko is our best central defender by a country mile, he was outstanding under Rd n apart from the injury has come in n looked solid again.
It's him and a partner in beside him, whether that is toure, or lustig or O'Connell, albeit depends on the formation brendan plays but schviatchenko is rock solid n his form last season n so far this season, has me glad to have him back. Hail hail.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2016 23:44:51
If we got rid of a few I'd still like us to go for Jerry St Juste. As he can play CDM and act as cover for CB if we pick up injuries. A few mentioned he's not the tallest CB but CDM would be ideal and he doesn't come with a hefty price tag.

With Gamboa now on board, will be officially announced later today, I think BR will turn his full attention to bringing in a creative CM.

One name being mentioned is Lucas Leiva who wokred with BR at Lpool. I think he would be a great addition and realistic. McCarthy not going to happen.

Has anyone heard of any other targets?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Isn't lucas a defensive mid?

Agree1 Disagree0

30 Aug 2016 10:18:15
Lucas ain't a creative midfielder! He's a ball winner and beaks up attacks! Which is exactly what I think we need! But BR seems to be wanting an attacking midfielder. kind of makes makes me think that rogic won't play if this happens! Really like the big man to! Guess we'll all just need to wait and see who BR pulls out the hat!

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2016 10:18:53
We are being linked with a lot of defensive midfielders but with Brown, Bitton, McGregor, Henderson and Ajar already there I don't see the point. Armstrong has also said he would prefer to play there.

If he does bring in another AM I guess that means we will play with 1 up or a back 3.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2016 12:30:04
Don't think we have a real defensive mid at the club just now.
Most of them cannot or will not tackle, chase back or win the ball and keep possession. Brown is the closest, but he is more of a box-to-box (although he has played in a holding role many times) .
Armstrong, Rogic, Bitton, McGregor and Henderson don't have a tackle between them and neither do the wide men for that matter.
We are short of ball-winners and muscle in the middle of the park.

If the jozo transfer goes through, pistol Pete will be rubbing his hands. Brendan will have brought more into the club than expenditure and we haven't touched a penny of champs league money . The fans are the happiest they have been for some time, he obviously has to higher the wage bill to get Sinclair, toure . But he has also saved wages with players going out, so far a decent window. However, I personally would like jozo to stay and see how good he is, we could end up selling him only for him to flourish and become another 12 million player .

You're right BW, for the first summer in quite a while we're looking stronger. So can't complain there. I just think that between sell-outs, players leaving, record sponsorship deals and the CL windfall, there could be room for another quality addition.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2016 07:26:01
Fresh reports of Jozo being targeted by Torino still. The Daily Fail seems to word it as if it hinges on Hart joining though, so they can share the same flight!

On the idea that it may happen, the only reason I could see us selling is that we know he's knackered. Otherwise I'd be a little bit stumped with this.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

30 Aug 2016 08:55:58
Don't understand the logic of selling Jozo. Although we haven't seen much of him by all counts a talent and only 22. Somebody wanting to buy him when he's not been playing testifies to his potential I'd have thought. Strange one especially when we hardly have a centre half worthy of the name that's tried and tested.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2016 10:11:26
