Reality check people. What is everyone's problem with Forster? People seem to have short memories, the guy has been immense for us between the sticks. The rags and sly select what they want from an interview and twist it to fabricate a story. Over the last 3 years who could have done as good a job as him? If we sell him who would be available to take his place? A 39 year old Shay Given? And why because he is Irish. If he was English, Scottish or Welsh no one would want us to touch him. Fraser is a young Keeper with huge potential and has already proved himself on more than one occasion at the highest level. He will only get better with time and when Lennon finally decides on a settled back 4 it can only benefit the big man playing behind them.

He's the best keeper we've had in years. JC

Agree to a certain extent, Given isn't the answer if Forster goes, he's had his chance to come back to us in the past but knocked us back. As for big Fraz his form has been shaky this season and I don't think he's fallen in love with the club and can't wait to get back to Engerland. Did anyone else notice his little shouting match with a fan in the jock stein stand last week against ICT.Stevie

Agree0 Disagree0

I just don't think he's been playing well at all, nothing to do with what sly or the rags say. Yes he has been superb in the past but he needs to keep it going. For me he doesn't command his box as well as he should considering his size, and his kick outs have been terrible of late.

Briggs

Agree0 Disagree0

Zaluska was mom against Liverpool in Dublin give the bhoy a chance as for tall FF personally I'm not a fan of the tall fellow he can be a shot stopper but that's about it. He does not command his six yard box let alone the 18 yard box in other words he is not a commanding goal keeper in-fact he is a bit of a bomb scare between the goal frame and does not come out for crosses if the HMG rumour mill is true but in-fact it's normally gob crap I would take 4 Mil from supposedly Benfeca but some how I think this rumour is a pile of crap as for Stokes to WBA no chance if I was Lenny don't let Stokes go after all he produces the goods when it matters not just the goals he scores but his assist's too in other words he is a key player also it's going to take time for those so called new signings to bed into the team and the hoops style of play I totally agree with Lenny that new signings have to earn their place in the team don't let those person media group try to unsettle our group of players they are so anti-Celtic and anti-catholic as well I rest my true opinions yeah later's signed BJTT

Agree0 Disagree0

My opinion is that a settled back four will bring out the best in Fraser. The holy goalie apart he's the best I've seen in many a year and has the stats (albeit spl) to prove his class. If Zaluska was ever good enough to be no.1 we would never have loaned Forster or signed him permanently. I doubt Zaluska has improved sitting on the bench for the last 3 years. I think we are lucky to have him as he could be no.1 in quite a few EPL teams. 4M is nowhere near enough if you ask me. Joe Hart is 1 or 2 mistakes away from losing his England no.1 jersey and when big Fraser is over this dip in form and turns it on against europes elite, I'm sure he will be in with a shout for a chance between the sticks for England which is what he really wants. If this happens your 4M could treble to 12M compared to what Gordon went for.
cw-88

Agree0 Disagree0

@4- Totally agree. The guy looked up for it to show his capabilities. I would love to see him get a run. NL shoul give him a run in one of the cups and make him the keeper for the whole run (including final, if we get there). Not against big FF, I do think he has been great and will only improve. I'm just pleased to see us having a strong number 1 and 2.

Agree0 Disagree0

I stick with my opinion that he does not command his area for a giant of a guy, crosses and long throws worry him, he turns his back on shots sometimes and his kicking can be very hit and miss.
I agree that a settled back four may help, but I also believe a back four get their confidence and organisation with the help of an assertive and consistent commanding goalie.

meanwhile on the tribute acts page they all seem to think admin is the answer to their problems but it wasn't last time and it wouldn't necessarily be this time Green and co could appoint their own administrator prob D&P They could and prob would give preferred bidder status to Whyte/Green cronies and the merry go round begins again.

Rangobango

Believable0 Unbelievable0

They have no shame. Now they have seen how easy it is to clear your debts and responsibilities by going bust they will continue to abuse the system. Not only that, they believe they are too big to be kicked-out. They know the top brass are too weak, or too biased, to make the right decision. And on top of it all, they get to keep their record with no senior people or media numpties with the minerals to say otherwise. Where are the Europe and World governing bodies now? TintTim

Agree0 Disagree0

@1 agree! They are a disgusting bunch! Have to laugh at one of their new found leaders posting about the great train robbery likening it to the great stadium robbery! Have tried to respond to this posting by stating that he has forgotten about the great robbery that happened last year! But as per usual the eds give it a damn good ignoring as the vast majority of their supporters do too! South for free speech! But never has really been any free speech involving anything about the dead Rangers FC and now the The Rangers International FC (international my erchie lol) This robbery would equate to the biggest robbery in British history! But they seem to gloss over this and forget that they not only robbed millions of pounds from the public purse of the UK but also millions of pounds were robbed from a list of 200+ creditors!
And yet they laugh and shout about being "debt free"

Agree0 Disagree0

While the biased and corrupt governing body encourage and condone this farce and they continue to return in various facsimile formats it underlines why Scottish football is a standing joke.

Has that plane landed yet with Finbo onboard? Seriously though we need to keep Stokes always good for 20 odd goals a season and his assist for the winner on wed was class. We need to sign a quality defender more than another striker but preferably both, wish that plane would land with Finbo onboard tho!.Stevie

Looks like we have lost out on Alfred Finbogasson if we were going to make a move we would have done it by now! Raging we haven't moved for him as he would have been a perfect replacement for Hooper! Disappointed in Lawell for not making it happen!

Does anyone think PL will have the brass neck to make an eleventh hour two bob offer for Alfie that will obviously be rejected and claim they made efforts to bring in a big name but just ran out of time?
If Stokes goes 2 strikers are required - I think Pukki may be decent but not a 25-30 goal getter. Unless a decent addition is made to what has been done so far this will be a very poor transfer window.
Kenny

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Anthony should not be sold. i'm getting frustrated with the amount of players linked with moves away from Celtic. Hope its just journo nonsense. JK

Agree0 Disagree0

A very poor transfer window?

I think you are being a tad disrespectful, we have signed 4 players with huge potential + a centre back who, all be it has had injury problems but was a stand out at previous clubs.

Yeah we might not challenge in our group this year; is that really any dissapointment. Let's face it did anyone really expect the last 16 last year and we made it.

We have a young hungry team here who are trying to make an impression for one reason or another, so I for one am happy with the direction we are heading. With or without any more recruits.

Frewbhoy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair points Frewbhoy and I hope they all fulfill their potentials in the hoops. However, the elephant in the room is the fact the team's top scorer, best midfielder and arguably best defender have all been sold this summer which would have a detrimental effect on any team.
Kenny

Agree0 Disagree0

Frewbhoy you can ask people I work with I said last year that we would beat spartak at home and away draw with braca away beat them at home and beat benfica at home and lose away and make last 16 but this year I'm not too sure this is my prediction beat Milan at home and Ajax at home draw with Milan away beat of braca home and away beat and draw or get beat by Ajax away just the way my guts going and my guts usually good

Hoopybhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok hoopy where do you work and whits yer mates names?

No only joking mate, am sure some people will still be thinking along the same lines this year it s good to have that optimism in our team, cause you just never know with Celtic on our day we can compete with the best of them.

I think we have come a long way in such a short time, reducing debts and still playing at the highest level is not as easy as it looks. Celtic have done this and should be applauded from all corners.

They have laid the foundations for a strong and wealthy club, one that our kids and grandchildren can grow with being successful. Unlike some of the barren years gone by.

That's why I am grateful for whomever we sign although I would like to see us develop our own youth and sell them on for mega fees.

Ed at the moment there is the whole will he won't he sign with Finbaggason! In the event that he doesn't sign which looks more likely with every passing minute do you think celtic will try to sign another striker as well as pukki! I just don't think we have the quality to handle the CL this time round and feel the board have severely let the team and the fans down if they don't deliver Finboggason or another quality striker! What are your thoughts Ed?

Ice man {Ed007's Note - If Finnbogason doesn't sign I think there will be someone else brought in. NL wanted to bring two strikers in even after Balde came in.}

i was told that pukki will b ineligble for us in champ league so I looked it up and found this

Rule 18.07 states that if a player features in the first, second or third qualifying rounds of either the Champions League or Europa League, he can play for another club in either competition from the group stages onwards, provided his former employers do not reach the group stages themselves.

and shalke have qualified,,,, so did pukki play in any of ther qualifiers?
{Ed007's Note - The rules have changed to....

18.07 As a rule, a player may not play in a UEFA club competition (i.e. UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, but not UEFA Super Cup) for more than one club in the course of the same season. Exceptionally, however, a player who has been fielded in the first, second, third qualifying round or the play-offs of the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League is entitled to play in the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League for another club as from the group stage.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would think Celtic would be familiar with the rules and would not sign a Cup tied player. Here's hoping Pukki is decent and hits the ground running ~ Mrs E

Just got a text that proves once and for all that 'the cardigan' being a great manager is indeed a myth. His European record stands at P48 W5 L19 D23. Compare this to our Lenny who has P30 W16 L9 D5. I mean the media in this country would never print stuff like this and will always try to paint us in a bad light whilst making out that Walter is some sort of tactical master. This proves that is Lenny we have a good one so let's appreciate him whilst he is here. In Lenny we trust. martyc1888

FOSTER UNCERTAIN OF FUTURE

If we have learned anything NL needs to sit the guy down get a feeling from him and if he wants to go get the deal done now if someone is in I we next two days. Our reserve is a good keeper. Liverpool display excellent. If Foster isn't happy dump his ass on the bench and get money in for him. Although timing us poor we struggling to get all our targets let alone a keeper of any note. Dermot will have Shays number call him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's a strange one. If Forster is trying to engineer a move away from us he's not doing a very good job of it. His recent displays have been at best, average. He's certainly not shown any signs of his excellent keeping last year yet. Let's hope we can sort this out before the CL starts.

Agree0 Disagree0

Is he nervy at the CL competition draw? I wouldn't think so. I hope this is just disruptive media nonsense. There isn't a great deal of time to sort this.

Agree0 Disagree0

A quote from forster.

Southampton fan, in peace. Cheers for Wanyama, he's quality, and I'm sure your enjoying the £11 million profit! Just wanted to say that the (potential) signing of Pukki is one that amazes me that it's slipped under the radar. This lad is a step up from Hooper and will bang in the goals. Fantastic signing, and good luck with the CL, hopefully you can slip past Milan or Ajax.

Just in the avoidance of any doubt, Pukki would be eligible for the group stages, as per Champions League Regulation 18.07
"As a rule, a player may not play in a UEFA club competition (i.e. UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, but not UEFA Super Cup) for more than one club in the course of the same season. Exceptionally, however, a player who has been fielded in the first, second, third qualifying round or the play-offs of the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League is entitled to play in the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League for another club as from the group stage."

Believable0 Unbelievable0

30 Aug 2013 14:34:32
I know a lot of us want 2nd in the group stages, but i'd be happier with 3rd. Chances are we go out right away if we got into the last 16. If we finish 3rd we drop to the Europa. Now we have made all the money from the champions league already so its prestige we want now. As much as I love celtic we have no chance of winning the champions league but I think we have more than enough to get at least to the europa cup final. How amazing would it be to see broonie lift a European cup. Beating barca last time was a night no celtic fan will ever forget. Now close your eyes and imagine being European champions once more.

Darrenbhoy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree totally, just look at last year, we have no chance of winning champions league, but could do well in the europa. col

Agree0 Disagree0

Darrenbhoy that's ridiculous that u would pick the europa final over cl last 16 see your point in that would be amazng getting 2 the final but I would never take that over last 16 in the cl. Why go through all the qualifiers and the drama of other night 2 say i'd be happy with 3rd and drop into europa. Even if we did go out again in the last 16 who cares i'd rather be ther get another big glamour tie have a go and see what happens than be in some sh1tty cup that tbf no 1 even cares about anymore. Uefa cup aye was good bit europa is a joke. your oppinion but a think your nuts

GunnieBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

That's a good point without being too defeatist, as we could then hopefully continue European football longer.
The cash would be a bonus but the extra Euro experience for the team would be tremendous and valuable.
The target must be to gain as many points as possible, not to finish last in the CL group and it's a win/win.

JJ

Agree0 Disagree0

@2 Take it you were not in Seville then Gunniebhoy. 80,000 of us did not think it was a $hitty cup then, believe me if we were in the final again I am sure you would be with us

Tambhoy did u read what a said mate a said aye uefa cup was good was more respected then but the europa league now is a joke no 1 cares about it seville was 10 years ago mate its gone now aye that defeat still hurts always will and the uefa cup was more prestigious back then but anyone 2 say they would sacrifice a chance at last of the cl for a europa league run is embarrassing tbh. A would take last 16 of the cl over the europa final everyday can't keep comparing seville all the time

If u feel that way then just u stay at home and watch the group games then if ye clearly don't want us 2 go through and the rest of us who actually want us progressing will go and cheer em on. I think this group is obviously more difficult than last season and I would be absolutely delighted with 9 points and see where that leaves us - allowing for the fact all 3 other club will take points from each other.

My own thought is that we will do well to drop into the Europa League from this group. Even though the other 3 teams may not be what they were a year or two ago (even Barca have gone off the boil a bit) they are still real quality at the end of the day. It really is a tough group, but then again, last year we were given no chance of progressing and the Bhoys did us all proud.

I see that all 11 other Scottish Premier teams will share £1.5m because of Celtic making CL group stages. They also got this bonus last year also, so a welcome £120k (ish) to all teams.
Celtic will receive guaranteed £16m from UEFA, possibly more if we win a game (£825k) or draw (£425k) we then have our gate monies @£84 package of 3 games roughly another £5m, plus add on sponsorship and Celtic are looking at £22m+ WITHOUT winning or drawing a single game. Timalloy {Ed007's Note - Our payment from UEFA for last years CL campaign totalled 23,760,000 Euros (+2.1m for qualifying appearances) Tim, and we should expect receive a bigger payout from the TV market pool this year.
Last season we received just over 8 million Euros, AC Milan got around 36m Euros, Barca received approx 20m Euros and Ajax got just under 10m Euros.
Just as a comparison, Benfica and Spartak Moscow received 2.2m and 4.5m Euros respectively.}

And most people who don't pay tax become wealthy. EB(arry)T anyone?}

Agree0 Disagree0

He was an excellent player & won many honours as captain of his boyhood club. Plenty big names have said how good a player he is/was having played with/against him, I think they are pretty well placed to make said judgements. I've had my season ticket at Ibrox for 15 years now and he is the best I have seen over the piece. Bossed many a Champions League game against top quality opposition. His wealth now is mainly down to the fact he earned fantastic money because he was a very good footballer and captain of club and country, and has also made shrewd investments in businesses and property over the years. Althought those controversial, yet perfectly legal, EBT's will have played a part I do agree 007 lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

@ The Dream Team. I was in hamilton palace many years ago when he and Jose Kitongo (spelling ex Hearts) were in, I asked Jose for an autograph which he signed without a problem. The Rangers are 125 years behind Celtic.
That guy is Scotland's shame being pissed and benched for a Scotland game and giving two fingers.
Old RFC never had a sugar daddy at any time, they had a guy who pretended to be one but took more money out than he put in. And reportedly bought RFC with a bank loan to the club!

Ed, I totally agree about the transfer window business being farcical. I'm not sure but when was the decision made on this, sure not overnight? If not then managers etc should have done something about it then, not wait till its upon us. The SPFA are the custodians of our association members. It is not their personal plaything and the directors of the member clubs should be letting them know and demanding it to rectified (not bitching and moaning). TinyTim {Ed007's Note - I have no idea when the decision was made but it only came to light during the week. Most people (myself included, even Sly Spurts reported it as a Monday deadline) just assumed that we would be in line with the rest of Europe.}

Really hope we get a bit of real class in the door but I know how difficult it will be.
Obviously CL qualification is a factor but there are several clubs who qualified that can offer more money and a better standard of league football.
There is absolutely no doubt our European nights at Celtic Park are world famous and have attracted comment and compliments from the worlds top players and managers and media.
The downside is, out-with the 6/8? games at the top club competition in the world we have a poor league in a cold wet country and even the very good chance of trophies and medals may not be enough?
The upside is our reputation and tradition and the chance to become a folk hero to the legions of the most passionate supporters in the land and the probable guarantee of European football indefinitely.

Ed, it appears the Biton and Pukki deals are all agreed but not signed. In your opinion, is there likely to be an official announcement today regarding those two or can we expect to go to the wire in the same fashion we always do regarding transfers?

Hail Hail

So turns out the SFA have went against UEFAs ruling to extend the transfer window to Monday 2nd September and instead opted for 23:00 Saturday 31st August. Leaving us 2 days less than every other team to get transfers. Rumour has it they have done this to suit The Rangers transfer embargo which is pointless as they have already signed umpteen f#cking players! Bell ends!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The the Rangers haven't had a signing ban at all. How could they have?
Why would the SFA hinder Scottish football by disadvantageing their top team, in Europe, against other euro sides? Is it accidental? Incompetence? Deliberate? Corrupt? Malicious?

Agree0 Disagree0

Bit unfair for celtic though, as they can then be blackmailed into paying higher fees as the selling club will have the buffer of a further 2 days to sell if deal falls through!

Rangers can still register players as they are freeby rejects that no respectable club would touch with a pointy jobby!

Agree0 Disagree0

Let them 'sign' as many players as they want during an embargo, just shows they their Club is all about.

The SFA knew they would use the 2 days to do something right stupid like sign more players they cannot afford or that would bet against them, they are probably saving Rangers from themselves. However, it does make the rest of Scottish Football vulnerable.

I have friends and family that support Rangers but sometimes I just wish the Club was run more professionally and without this cringeworthy mock outrage attitude Ally has in an attempt to compensate for how poor a Manager he is. ~ Mrs E

ED007, Bhoys/Ghirls and wee Pat.
What are your thoughts on Stokes and Izzuigerre?
Should we sell one or both? Lennon I think told us a lot by leaving Izzy out of game on Wednesday, as he could not trust him defensively.
Also if West Brom put in an offer for Stokes I would take it, especially if we bring in another top class striker.
I would also like to clarify a post I made about us being stronger than last season, what I meant was we came through 6 games without 3 of our best players yet still got through to group stages, we now have 6 new players in (counting Biton and Pukki although technically not yet signed) I think at least 4 of these will go straight into team on a regular basis Van Dijk, Boerrighter, Biton and Pukki with the other two Balde and Myoukolo as good squad members.
These players will add that extra bit of class to Celtic and will strengthen us quite a bit. Timalloy

Kevin-Prince Boateng undergoing a medical at Schalke, Christian Eriksen in talks over personal terms with Spurs bhoys and ghirls. I know we seem to have sold 3 of our core starting XI, but Ajax and Milan have done the same this summer - a few decent signings today and tomorrow will ensure we're challenging for that 2nd spot in the group! #FeelingAlotMoreOptimisticBhoy

Craig Gordon is with sevco at there training park working on his fitness (true inside info)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He's been there most of the summer from what i'm lead to believe.

MgC {Ed007's Note - Craig Gordon is going/has went through some personal hell recently. And before any gossip starts it is nothing to do with the usual vices that footballers can get trapped by like drink/drugs/women etc. The family don't want anything in the public domain but that is why he isn't with a team, he is spending his time dealing with the sad situation.}

Samcfc {Ed007's Note - Cardiff have been after Finnbogason all summer but I have said all along I thought any deal to sign for us hinged on CL qualification. We will find out soon enough....}
