Great memories of Big Billy around, and to be fair he gave us the most iconic pose in our history, but strangely i remember him differently.

He was, of course, our most influential figure and involved in our greatest triumphs, but i remember him in his pub!

He was the very epitome of what the representation of our club should be. He was incredibly proud of what had been achieved. You may notice i never used 'he' prefixing achieved. That was because i never heard him ever say anything other than it was the team, and it was for the Club.

Always time for a blether about Celtic and endlessly patient he is a giant in our history. That famous pose faces the right way y'know.

For all he done for Celtic he remained a very humble man. Only had the pleasure of meeting him once but he was a complete gentleman.

Used to pop in to his pub on a sunday night when it was the old 5 past 6 kick off times, then the band afterwards, brilliant times. Lovely Man and a lovely family. We nearly took the roof off upstairs when Henrik scored the semi winner in Boavista. ๐Ÿ˜Š Our Eternal Leader on the pitch. Ceaser.

Looking at live traffic cams and roads look pretty decent. is our game dependant on the paths leading to and from Paradise being cleared?

All the main roads I have been on in Glasgow are clear of snow. So as long as the pitch is OK and there is not another outburst of snow between now and kick off, I would assume the match will go ahead.

HAIL CAESAR

Today Billy McNeil is 78 years old.
He has been a player, captain and manager of Glasgow Celtic Football Club.
Let us all remember him in his prime, scoring the winner against Dunfermline in the Scottish Cup, all his goals in europe, those who witnessed it will never forget his last minute goal against Vojvodina on our way to Lisbon, and of course as our captain lifting the BIG CUP.
Then his return as manager and one of his biggest achievements winning the league title in 1979, who will ever forget the 4-2 game against the huns, which penned the immortal songs
TEN WON THE LEAGUE and
WE ONLY NEED 10 MEN

Billy, you gave us Celtic fans such wonderful memories. Thank You

Oh there's only ONE king Billy,
That's MCNEIL.

my mate was saying to me the other week that big billy is in a nursing home now due to his dementia, the iconic image of him hoisting the european cup above his head is the most important image in our clubs history, a humble gentleman of a man, god bless you billy.

Ib I don't think he is in a nursing home mate

I find it difficult that the gutter press would not relay that information it would leak Imo (y)

I remember attending a European game when I was about 18 and sitting in my uncles seat in the main stand close to the directors box. Billy sat in the seat directly in front of me. I remember thinking about speaking to him, shaking his hand or asking for an autograph but I crapped it because he was such a legend!

Oh I never knew that Ed, he was a great friend of my uncle who ended up in a nursing home the exact same as Billy

Hard to believe two sporting men ended up the same

Last time I seen him was at my uncle's funeral

Stand corrected jb67 (y)

HE was, and always will be, the Leader on the Park under the Boss (JS) . A great team needs a great manager and a great leader ON the park. WE were spoiled.
Sorry to hear of his condition and the fact HE will not remember lifting that big cup for us tears me up.
I remember Rickie Fulton's wife talking about him and how he asked if he had done something bad to be kept in the home.
Horrible horrible disease.

Billie MC Neill was fantastic the way he could time his runs late, into the box to power home corners .

I am seeing a lot of these "what happened to this player tipped as the next big thing" online at the moment.

Islam Feruz, 22 years old, in the Chelsea development squad list, 23 league games played in 5 loan moves and 0 goals over 6 years after leaving us.

It could have been so different for him.

The only good thing to come out of this whole mess, not ours but the boy, is Young Dembelle has seen what happens if you let an agent turn your head. don't wish the boy ill but cannot forget the shocking TB comments, awful.

Mentioned Feruz before mate. a complete half wit of a boy! Will never forget what TB done to help him and his family, and they threw it back in the clubs face! His career is done before it even got started. don't think many will shed a tear about that!

02 Mar 2018 16:55:52
You can't really blame Feruz as his dad was his agent and was giving him bad advice.

However, he is a wasted talent because he started living the high life after getting the Chelsea move, instead of focusing on his football career.

i've played with guys who made it, but i would be a rich man if i had a tenner for every guy i played with who pissed their talent away with bevvy or drugs, its just a waste.

Could you name a couple you played with that made it big.

James it's easy for kids, especially kids with extreme wealth to get carried away with themselves. That's when they need guidance the most, it's a shame feruz never seen how good he had it at celtic, with Tommy Burns in his corner I have no doubt he'd have made it if he listened to him. The worst thing he done was listen to his agent, if it's his dad then shame on him. The good thing is, the lad is young enough to get his life in order, maybe not as a footballer but, good luck to him.

An explosion last week killed a wild-living navy boiler man and he found himself in hell. Being used to stoking fires and extremely hot temperatures, he found hell actually quite comfortable.

When Satan went to check out the new arrival, he found him sitting in his room smiling.

"You like this? " Satan asked.

"Yes, sir, " said the sailor, "this feels like a spring day to me. "

Not wanting the new guy to be too comfortable, Satan turned up the heat a bit. When he went back the next day to see how his new arrival was doing, the sailor was still happy; he hadn't even broken a sweat.

"I like this kind of weather, " he told Satan.

For the next few days, Satan turned up the heat more and more, but each day the Sailor looked as comfortable as ever. By Sunday, Satan decided to try something different. Rather than turn up the heat even more, he turned it off and turned on the air conditioning. Icicles formed in the sailor's room! When he checked on the guy, the room was icy and he was shivering, but he chuckling away.

Satan was exasperated! "Why are YOU laughing? " he demanded from the sailor. "It's FREEZING in here! "

"Well, I'm from Parkhead, " said the sailor, "and evidently sevco have finally managed to beat Celtic! ".
