Delighted that we have coughed up for GMS now and think he will be an emmediate and creative impact player for us for the business end of the season. However. is anyone wondering like I am about where Armstrong is likely to play in our midfield.I have been really impressed with him this season at United but don't yet see him as being a huge improvement or obvious replacement for Johansen, Broony too imortant to be rotated and certainly not as creative as Commons in between the lines.I know its a squad game but can't see him starting at the moment.Anyone got any thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

I wondered that too tbh am thinking the left of the front 3 where Stokes & Henderson are playing the now

No need to change the base two of Brown & Biton

So it is there I certainly see him

Agree0 Disagree1

I am glad that we have got these two very good additions . If one or both don't hit the ground running I wouldn't worry as both are young and may take into next season to really find their Celtic feet . In any case extra competition for places has to be good for the squad.

Agree2 Disagree0

Yeah which makes complete sense mate but that's also where GMS plays his natural game (as predominantly a left sided attacking wide player) who can also drift inside.Suppose we'll find out what Ronnie's thinking soon enough.

Agree1 Disagree0

I agree I think GMS is more likely to get in the side first. Just through position though. They're both needed. And will both improve our first team IMO.

Armstrong though should be good competition for Commons in the CAM spot for me. Perhaps even starting ahead of him against Inter? My only thinking is that KC may now be more effective off a bench? Of course, similar to Johansen, he can play anywhere really so is a very good squad player and 1.75m is an absolute steal. We'll give him the platform and we'll be quoting 17.5m in a few years. Honestly mark me down for that one.

But I hope Broony has a chat, shows him that it can be great staying at Celtic. RD's 22 man squad is taking a bit more shape. A few more exits and still for me a bit European pedigree and/or experience in the summer and we'll be going somewhere.

Well done Ed, Bruce, the Dark Knight. Keeping a watchful eye over us keepung us right. You gave me a hint days back saying we'd get the two. Reveal yourself! Still a bit surprised and I hate the waiting game but good business do you reckon?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Thans very much. I'm delighted with the deals we done yesterday.}

02 Feb 2015 23:23:45
I am delighted The Board have seriously backed RD in this window - even though they left it late - and we were not involved in a bunch of additional loans.
This is a great double-dunt on top of the victory on Sunday and will give the whole club such a boost for the remainder of the season and push for trophies.
It is also a real bonus to have kept VVD and Commons (even if it's only for a while) as both are currently at the top of their game and will be very valuable.
Thank you Celtic for a fantastic couple of days.

Think Commons will stay. He wants to stay but with Armstrong joining, Celtic may let Commons go in the summer? Let's see. Question now is who does RD drop to accommodate the 2 new signings? Interesting but good business. For once well done to RD and the Board. I have been a big critic of RD and his style of football but I may need to eat some humble pie? I really hope so!

Agree1 Disagree2

Jungle Jim
I agree the board hasn't done us bad . We have, on paper anyway, as good an attacking force as we should want .

Agree0 Disagree0

Good point Johnny. Commons is good and I rate him but you can't mess a club like ours about until the last moment. Bringing competition in (younger as well) is always good and I did not see a massive rush to sign Kris so maybe he needs to re-evaluate where he is and slap his agent around a wee bit. Good feeling after this window as generally very little positive comes out of it. Well done the board for showing a wee bit bottle and letting some moths out of the purse! Hail Hail

Agree0 Disagree2

@1. "For once well done RD"? He has had a good season all round considering start he had due to injuries. You do know we are in all competitions at this point? Vast improvement from last season, gee the guy a break

Benoit assou-kept to released by spurs wouldn't mind him as a secondary LB on a free transfer! Thoughts?

Believable1 Unbelievable2

I said this he other week and got pelters saying he's no good enough and we ain't a retirement fund. I think he's quality, Izzy needs a rest too and BAE would bring experience no brainer for me

Agree0 Disagree0

Honesty I don't think Izzy ever needs a rest, he is like a fine tuned machine getting up and down the wing .

Agree2 Disagree0

We have 8 games in 2 weeks or something ridiculous like that we need cover even a 6month deal would do to see if he can add anything to the squad what happens if izzy gets injured?

02 Feb 2015 20:20:51
Armstrong fee agreed and GMS so looks as though we are going to get our men for once looks like we have stumped up the cash!

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Well looks like we will be much stronger tomorrow for rest of season so hats off for once to the Celtic board for getting a good bit of business deals done without being forced to pay over the odds.

Agree2 Disagree0

Deila told us we were keeping our main players and that we would come out of the window stronger than we went in .

Agree2 Disagree0

02 Feb 2015 19:59:02
Fees agreed on both Dundee United players. Looks like it might be a great transfer window after all. HH

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Just heard both players going through there medicals just now

Agree3 Disagree0

Great news BT. A big well done to PL on getting these deals done.

Agree1 Disagree0

£1.6m for Arnstrong apparently. Now that's the figure they supposedly turned down earlier. Perhaps there are add ons or a player(s) going in their direction.

Agree1 Disagree0

I look forward to seeing these gel in with the team and what different set ups RD has at his disposal now think we will score goals galore now. Who would people want to see dropped to accommodate?

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Feb 2015 19:08:04
Guys there has been many many players we have signed for much less than they were worth. Bobo, Lubo, Commons, wanyama, Izzy, Ki, and even the great Henrik. So just for once celtic just dish out the extra 500k or whatever it will be for GMS and Armstrong. We have made a lot of money out of transfers in the past so it won't kill us.And at least we know they not duds this time, I don't think 1 supporter would moan.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Seems GMS is on his way, 250k agreed.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why? Would you pay 2grand for a car that you would be getting for nothing in 6 months?
We can wait for GMS.

Agree0 Disagree4

02 Feb 2015 19:59:17
If it was better than what I had and thought it could make a difference over the next 6 months then yeah. Especially if I could afford it

Agree2 Disagree0

BigRab. Not think it would be worth signing him now?

Take him out Utds team and they're weaker for our cup final.

GMS would improve our side for league run in and even EL.

Then get him in the side, used to our system and players around us for the what is almost elusive CL qualification now.

Agree3 Disagree0

Diffrence is rab it would be 2 quid the now if you relate to the finances. I think even you would want the car the now at that price lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Looks like its a done deal now. I welcome our new bhoys with open arms!

Agree0 Disagree0

If things go as we now hope and think with Armstrong and GMS, Peter Lawwell has saved Celtic his wages including bonuses on these deals alone.
It looks good on the man retention front too.

Evening Ed & all, Surely PL must have this train of thought going through his mind in his comfy chair!?

Utd are opponents in the cup final with Cifti banned there biggest threat will surely come from Armstrong & GMS?!

If this was to go against us he will get pelters / ridicule even anger! in GMS case surely it makes sense with the relative small amount involved?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Heh Ed, Who would have thought it eh? turns out PL was reading this site mate and decided to act upon MY train of thought lmfao

Noo all a need to do is rattle oot the invoice for my advice and send him it! :-)

{Ed007's Note - Well you know your money's safe, our club always pays it bills.}

The amount of Rangers' fans I've heard going on about how they "aren't that far away from Celtic" is cringeworthy. And the media saying how Celtic should have won by more is as tedious.

We could have been four or five up in the first half - and SHOULD have been up by at least three. We came out in the second half and killed the game. Totally professional. Why go gung ho? Especially when you don't have to? That's schoolboy stuff.

Would I have liked five or six? Of course but as I say, totally professional job. Not only were we heads and shoulders above them technically, we out fought them in every area of the pitch. They were tiring by the end - all that hoof the ball and cakes at half time will do that - but we looked like we could go again.

To chastise Celtic for not winning by more goals, or to claim that Rangers in any way competed, is ridiculous. Apparently, this was their most important game since liquidation? It's not even our most important game in February.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

I totally agree TPP for me it became that we were content and had no real need/intent to expand further energy, as you say more important games in Feb mate including now moving towards two games a week!

A hear the people in laundry dept. had to ask our keeper what kit he wore as there wasn't a mark on it lol

atvb jb7

Agree1 Disagree0

They are miles behind us. It was like watching a sunday pub league team.

Hampden Park is supposed to be iconic as the home of scottish football. That pitch was shocking! There will be teams in lower leagues with pitches in better condition

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Blantyre Celtic would have got a result against them. I've only seen them play Hibs this season and they were diabolical, yesterday just showed how far behind us they are on and off the field. It will be years before we are challenged by a club playing out of £1brox.}

Just read wee Blacks outburst about Broony's tackle on him, he said if he had made that tackle he would be sent off. Well you don't have to worry about getting sent off Ian because you don't have the gut's to make a tackle from the front.
Tambhoy

Agree2 Disagree0

Ed I think they will be lucky to get promoted this season into Premiership.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Unless there is a vast improvement in them it'll be a huge ask.}

I think it years since we played as bad a team as Sevco. Not only was C Gordon a spectator but our defenders never had to stretch themselves to make a last gasp block or tackle .
Even they do get three/four Newcatle illegals they still won't have a team .

Is anyone expecting any players through the door tonight . Ronnie said we were quite far down the line with a few players at one point this window. I think he has to do the job with one hand tied behind his back by Peter. He's supposedly employed him to come in and change the playing style yet won't sign any players to change the style . We were told we would be signing players this window to bed them in for the champions league qualifiers as they come around quickly. Results were sticky at the start of the new regime but Ronnie is starting to turn it around and I for one think he deserves the chance to build a squad. When we qualified from the Europa group we were told it was important as it could determine the type of players we were to sign . I'm waiting with baited breath

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Feb 2015 16:49:06
Everyone seen the video of Ronny dancing last night? Defo should be signing "give me hope Joanna" to the words " give us hope Ronny deila"

Believable1 Unbelievable0

02 Feb 2015 16:30:16
as of saturday we will have 8 games in the next 4 weeks. Is going to be a tough test of the squad. Glad to get through yesterday without injuries.

Armstrong, GMS coming in now would be great. I think the squad would then be in a good position. If not then I guess it just gives our loan players a final chance to show if they are good enough.

I remember earlier on in the transfer window we were linked brescia's benali, as they were strapped for cash. Maybe a late bid still to come. pure conjecture but why not.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Feb 2015 14:31:07
Has the Referee made any comment on his inept attempt of doing his job yesterday?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

I very much doubt it, but it will be discussed at the meeting on Tuesday night at his local lujj.
Even Michael Stewart was slagging him off for consistently poor decisions
There has been zero condemnation of the continuous sectarian singing by the bigots either - in fact all the Scottish sports programmes are concentrating on Andy Murray?! and it seems there was no game worth mentioning yesterday ha ha ha.

Agree1 Disagree0

Madden or Bro. McLean couldn't have done better for them .

Can anyone explain to me the thinking of the daily record editor, in a supposed condemnation of a sick post by an internet troll against both Chris Commons and Scott Brown the paper then prints the sick message in full giving this cretan an even wider audience

Believable2 Unbelievable3

I never buy that but their editor must privately agree with whatever was said?

Hi anyone know what time window in scotland closes at I seen on a web site it was 12. an hour after england

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes England is 11pm Scotland 12am BC

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers hopefuly we could benefit from any deals that break down at last minute in england

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - How can an English team transfer a player out when their window is shut?}

02 Feb 2015 14:23:10
Really. I didn't know it worked like that.thought they cudnt sign someone but they could sell or lone a player to a league with their window still open. Russia window open to 27th.so they can't buy anyone from a league were the window has closed?

Agree0 Disagree0

Some scandinavian windows open till March.

Agree0 Disagree0

I just had a veg curry so my window will be open till the morning!

Agree0 Disagree1

02 Feb 2015 11:07:19
The tv are reporting we've increased our bid for Armstrong by £100k.(tauri) At this rate we'll have to submit a new bid every hour if we want him in this window!

Believable2 Unbelievable0

If it's true that sounds all too familiar for us and it's ridiculous for a club of our size and stature.
If RD had identified Armstrong as a target then they should back him - especially after guiding the club to a final in his first season.
The way we dilly dally and faff about in these windows until the last minute is all too familiar with Lawell & Co and all the transfer business should have been thought out well before now.
There are more than enough surplus to requirements that could be used in any deals instead taking wages out of the club for doing virtually nothing.

Agree2 Disagree0

Hi JJ, JT apparently Utd. chairman is in Oz! must be someone else dealing with it there, or a BIG mobile bill lol atvb jb7

Agree0 Disagree0

Sly saying that was our final bid too. Ed reckon there'll be ANYBODY coming in? Even GMS now?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - There's a while to go yet. I wouldn't be surprised to see another bid going in for both players. Nothing's changed, Dundee Utd have told CFC what they want and it's up to PL if he thinks the players are worth the money.}

I would not hold my breath, although Lawell is rummaging down the back of his settee as we speak.

Agree2 Disagree0

Looks like we're going to get GMS in now. Reports suggest you're right again Ed - we haven't given up on Armstrong either.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Feb 2015 07:52:43
BBC reporting Dundee United have rejected 2 bids for Armstrong and GMS. We offered them 150,000 for GMS and having turned down 1.5m for him before we have been knocked back by a bid of just under 1.6m! Ed are these figures correct or is it BBCs only way of getting to ridicule us today or is it another case of our board penny pinching?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Feb 2015 08:50:47
2-0 was a good result yesterday considering we have no strikers. Tired hearing about midfielder's coming in, we need a good quality of striker. We are different from others in terms of we should do our business now build a team for CL qualifiers. If not guaranteed EL football again/

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We have Griffiths he started and scored.

Agree2 Disagree0

02 Feb 2015 12:29:16
I rate scepovic, his record is great. The guy just needs some game time. No idea why guidetti got picked over him yesterday

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Feb 2015 17:18:35
Can someone tell me why none of our strikers can score? They can't all be useless! Gudetti can't score, Scepovic can't score, Stokes can't score, Griffiths scored yesterday but has found it difficult to score? Why are all of our strikers struggling to score? Itudt be the system. They can't all be useless?

Nice wee run out for the Bhoys, eh? I was pleased with Broony keeping it in check. Some bad refereeing decisions and some blatant elbows etc not seen. Through it all, Brown, above everyone else, just kept driving the team onwards. They tried to get at him a couple of times but he knew this would give the ref all the excuse he needed. Well done Broony and the rest of the team. RD's demand for fitness is showing benefits now. Hail, Hail.

Thought you might like to see how Inter are getting on. We probably couldn't have got a sweeter tie. I'm not convinced yet by our line up especially in the last 18, but this lot seem to be having even more trouble there.

Someone wants to tell Kenny Miller that he needs to watch the replay of the game as things change from when you are a spectator at the game.

Don't worry Kenny with comments like that I am quite sure some psychiatric hospital will be looking for players next year.#GulfinclassAyerite

2-0, comfortable and expected result. (A) few will have been gob smacked at the sheer gulf in class ‑ others a mixture of both utter hilarity laced with pity. Again, the others that never felt or admitted to either of the two will still have enjoyed the scoreline regardless. If a few of the despicable legion bow their head and shed a tear I for one will remind them to let it dry and sell the salt!.
It was a clear exhibition of variance of class – elbows CB ffs. We done the job. well done again.

Further bit of good news to be had? Every media Dundee united affiliated filmed persons
have had a lump in their throats when questioned regarding the two moving this window. Mibby?

I'm not over estimating the lift they would give to the side. I have real confidence in armstrong. Combined its two match winning, creative players that could help build the team and more importantly start.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - The general feeling (and talk) in the Utd camp after yesterday's match was that it was both players last game for them. CFC still need to stump up though....}

If this goes through backs will be monkeyless board wise till the summer. this win needs some icing

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Feb 2015 02:35:28
Hope we can get the two of them in. The rumour of west Brom wanting Armstrong still won't go away but this usually is our day for business so who knows. Maybe Henderson on loan till the end of the season would be a nice we sweetner while giving him some good experience

If we do sign them it will really effect dundee United for the final and also with ciftci suspended for that game

If we don't I'm looking forward to seeing gms against us in a big game and seeing how he handles It. Not that it should be any different for him but will be good to see

Agree1 Disagree0

Would like to see Armstrong come in but not for anything more than 2m. He is good but not as good as people say. As for mackay steven don't see what is great, better than borrigter and co but not sufficient quality but would be nice to see him play against us in the final and show what he can do
