Anyone at the game today? from what I heard Johansen looked pretty decent.

MynameisEarl

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He played very well.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its been a long time coming. A real footballer with a footballers brain. Reminds me of the maestro, he was a diamond in the rough yesterday. This boy is a player and if he says injury free we have a real gem on our hands. Well done to all who got him to the club. Great job. Sopotcelt.

How after a 2 match suspension where the team won 4 - 0 on both occasions does.Stokes walk back into the starting line up.

Double standards and favourites it's getting so tiring. Why change a winning team unless forced ie Ledley.

In fact I am sure NL has repeated that statement several times this season. But it changes when it suits him.

Thommobhoy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Stokes has been our main striker this season and in his absence pukki did ok in a 20 min outing versus hibs scoring once then against Killie was back to his usual poor performance when asked to lead the line and was subbed. Balde might never start a game and Leigh wasn't available today so stokes was obvious choice it's fair to say he needs to up his game big time or Leigh will surely get a shot at leading the line very soon.

11 clean sheets and all you can do is moan am really getting sick of the Lenny bashes away and support sevco

I agree Dannybhoy, what can the guy do, I'm also sick of the peepul that say liewell too. Jbhoy

Totally agree @2 and 3, heard 2 muppets coming out of the game the day and the conversation went along the lines of "f***** garbage again I'm fed up o this pish" reply " I we're f****** mince". It made me laugh only in Scotland you can go 12 games without conceding a goal, scoring probably about 35 and we're no happy. If only those doom and gloom merchants would just admit they're missing the Zombies.

Agree0 Disagree0

Your right Stevie, especially when you can remember back to Lou macari s time in charge, that really was f*****g pi5h. Jbhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think the OP deserves the criticism Dannybhoy, . Stevie + Jbhoy have dished out. Jim1972 has stated the obvious, Stokes was brought back in after a suspension when he's been on a run of poor form, where as others (Balde + Pukki) have scored in recent weeks - and yet again, Stokes has a bad game. Is that not fair to say?

HamiltonBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to agree with the op and hb stokes should not have walked back into the team and his performance yesterday proved it out of form selfish and greedy pukki is a better player and should have started in front of him

Agree0 Disagree0

I meant Thommobhoy, not Jim1972 btw!

HamiltonBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

@ hb stokes scored against st mirren then was involved in all 3 goals v Motherwell so he had been contributing in games just before suspension. That said there is no doubt he isn't a leading striker but after reaching February and still no sign of tactics changing up top it's Neil Lennon who should be criticised not stokes.

Agree0 Disagree0

Stokes has played 34 games this season, started 28, scored 7 and assisted 8 - he hasn't done enough for himself, or for the team. Then you've got Balde - 15 appearances, 13 off the bench, 3 goals. Not really that impressive on paper, however he has averaged a goal every 100 mins based on the time on the field. Stokes is currently sitting at around 223 mins per goal, Pukki's 365 mins per goal. Whit more does big Amido need to do for a start?!

HamiltonBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Got to laugh, why are people Lenny Bashers when the have a right to be critical of changes to a winning team. Stokes has and never will be a Celtic class striker. He is and will always be a decent player to come off the bench. I agree with the original poster, Two 4-0 wins without him and within him back we get a 1 nil win in what was another poor game.

Yes we are all delighted that we have a new record for clean sheets but be realistic here, that's mainly down to poor finishing from opposition players especially with Big Efe prone to an error a game.

I am delighted for Fraser Forster and hope he gets his big move in the summer to a real top flight team and becomes England No1.

As for our new signing Griffiths, wasn't happy with this but with ALL Celtic players I am willing to see what happens, I would say he is by far an overall better player and finisher than Stokes and will happily have him in the team if it means no Stokes

Agree0 Disagree0

Jim1972 So it was lenny that told him to take the ball round the keeper and not pass to boerichter, you can't blame lenny if stokes is greedy and not a team player, all he had to do was play the ball to his left and we are two up, just what Henke would have done
Tambhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

@tambhoy yes Lenny is to blame for stokes not doing the right thing as stokes isn't a leading striker, I think we all agree on that, he is better at playing alongside someone. He has been low on confidence for sometime now as many fans are on his back due to his poor scoring record so what is he meant to do, say to Lennon don't play me I'm off form. Or should the manager play him in his best position with another striker or drop him, that's what I expect a manager to do not persist in demoralising a player.

Agree0 Disagree0

@13 Totally disagree with you mate.if a player can't see when it is the correct thing to do ie pass to a player in a better position there are one of two thing's wrong with him A he is not a good player or B he is a greedy fecker, the team come's first alway's too many time's Stokes has went for glory and made an erse of it mate
Tambhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

So is Lennon a good manager who consistently watches a player do the wrong thing?

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Feb 2014 18:35:41
Anthony you better sharpen up immediately because Leigh would have watched you today and he'd be very confident he could do better. Much better. I agree with an earlier poster that big Fraz is worth double digits if he goes as expected this summer. Mr Lawwell please squeeze every last million out of the eventual buyers because he is brilliant and worth plenty.

Just thinking of the club in the past few years, imagine if the board backed Lennon and we could build somthing for cl.
Ff
Lustig Wilson van dyk izzy
Ledley brown wanyama johansen
Commons
Hooper . And our bench would be strong plus any big signings allowed. Hoopsy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hoopsy, Wilson, Wanyama, Ledley, Hooper
didn, t want to be at celtic for various reasons, it had nothing to do with the board not backing lennon. All four of them made their feelings known they wanted to go to the epl.jimbhoy.

Agree0 Disagree0

I personally thought Wilson was a haddie. All this he was excellent second season guff. He was just a bit less worse!

Joeshmo1888

Agree0 Disagree0

@1 I know they wanted to leave but i'm sure a lil bumper deal and showing more ambition for cl in building team would make them think twice.not haveing a pop at the board but just wish they would trust/have faith in nl, for imagine the quality players with more money then the shoe string budget he works on, given the players we seen turn to huge profit. Hello first time poster. missed today's game and so settled in to watch the arsenal vs palace game. Not much to watch which made me think about Ledleys switch down south. Now I understand we at times need to buy and sell for a profit and can take players leaving the club, players have always came and went and the club will always exist but what frustrates me is when players leave to teams obviously not in our level and before anyone is upset by this just because a smaller club play in a so called bigger league that does not make them a big club themselves. Sorry about the rant just can't understand players leaving for clubs who ambition is to finish 4th bottom of a league and this is then seen as a success! Shouldn't watch Super sunday!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

One word. money

Agree0 Disagree0

Very, very few players leave us for football reasons alone. The high wages are a natural attraction and the chance to play in a higher profile league.
There is less pressure as they are not expected to win every game when they go to the Norwich's, Southampton's and Palace etc. but many players will never regain what they had at Celtic.

Just back from the game. Not a great performance but the stand out was Johansen. Thought he looked like the playmaker we need and for someone making his debut at a big club he always wanted the ball. Granted tougher tests lie ahead but that was a brilliant debut and everything he does reminded me of Modric. Thought VVD was outstanding as usual and Forster was good but pretty poor from the rest. I can't believe at 1-0 Stokes is that greedy as to try and get a goal for himself rather than lay it on a plate for a team mate and guarantee a win. Also, really looking forward to see Leigh Griffiths in the flesh and good to see him get a good reception. The amount of times Stokes gets the ball on his left and he messes it up as he has no left foot is unreal. I had my reservations initially but I reckon Griffiths could turn out to be a great player for us.

agree stokes was again poor today. for a striker to constantly play on the left side of the 18 yard box is shocking, always wanting to cut inside and shoot

a striker that plays for the team and not himself could of scored/assisted a few today

Agree0 Disagree0

Stokes was gash today tried saying on twatter that he didn't know boerigter was there or he woulda passed to him which is complete b.s as for johanson he was excellent imo lots of good forward/attacking passing instead of the usual sideways passing we're used to seeing

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't figure it? With Griffiths waiting in the wings Stokes must know he has better competition - but Lennon has shown him a lot of favouritism since his new deal, playing him regardless, when he has been very poor for weeks now.

Way to go big wall ff, wish we could keep him and some players and have the board back nl to get great players to see how far we can go. Johanson does look like a modric double! Commons is changing his game into stokes with waving of hands and complaining/not running/stop after when the ball is lost(don't like that to creep in when he hasn't done it before) and as for stokes well not a team player instead of a sure win he is selfish for a goal and wish we sell him in summer as I never liked him signin a new contract. Balde is looking more confident and progressing Bbhoy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sorry but commons has always done that and people just look past his lack of pace and the amount of times he gives the ball away he's done well the past two months I wonder how many of his goals have come in the last two months like hooper last year commons is a decent enough player but some celtic fans have got blinders on when it comes to him and Lennon too compairing him to moravcik is a step too far I wasn't too pleased about griffiths coming in but maybe Lennon might pair him with amido because god knows the big man deserves a run of games before if not with griffiths

Agree0 Disagree0

FFS you two, Commons has been our best player by a country mile this season and just because he didn't have his best game today you have a go. Get a grip ya pair of clowns, who scored the winner today. At £300, 00 he has to be the bargain of the century!

Franco 63

Agree0 Disagree0

Blinkers again he's only been cracking for about three months fair play to him he's a good player but gets away with things if it was Forrest that done the things he done or Charlie mulgrew you would never hear the end of it on here that's what I am pointing out

Agree0 Disagree0

Franco. Take a chill pill! Not having a go at commons just saying he has just stopped/dosent try when loses the ball in the past 3 games and hope that dosent creep into his game, ala stoke. So relax and read and understand what you read so you just don't have a pop at ppl. Bbhoy

@2 big virgil has been our beat player by some distance . Virgil just oozes class

johansen looks really good this first half. few nice attacking passes and breaking the play up well. early in his career yet obviously but looks a good replacement for ledley

nice reception for griffiths off the fans today

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well said KB, I think Johansen has already cemented his place in the team. Total standout today!

Ghuys, am I the only one that thinks we should be looking for A LOT more than £7.5m for big Fraser, bearing in mind we had to pay £2.5m to get him. Newcastle will be due a slice and there is also the fact that he is knocking on England's door and might go to the world cup. Can only imagine there might be a wee contract clause thingy for £7.5m

Hey lads Newcastle fan here and I was in the boozer tonight after that mugging we got today and a few people sayin we had a 5m bid for Scott Brown turned down yesterday after the move for Grenier was off. Without knocking your game could he make the step up to the premier league?I've watched champions league games and he hasn't stuck out if I'm honest about it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I did hear that Newcastle were planning to bid as an alternative to Grenier but there has been nothing mentioned anywhere about any bid being made. In my opinion Brown could easily make the step up to the PL no problem although he can be a bit of a hot-head on the park.}

Just watching MOTD there and Boruc had an outstanding game again. Just wondering what's everyones thoughts on the better goalie Forster or Boruc. Personally think I would go for Forster if only cause he's younger and still improving.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think Forster is an excellent shot stopper, but he never leaves his 6 yard box and should be more commanding for a Giant in his area.
That is one aspect of his game, that has not improved or been addressed effectively in my opinion.
Boruc had his great - and not so great moments, but he did come for more crosses and uses the whole penalty box.

really good question and think its one that will split opinions between our fans

for me its boruc. equally as good shot stopper and similarly hard to beat 1 on 1. commands his box just that bit better (bit crazily at times though lol)

also although hard to compare I think one of the best penalty stoppers around. will be always highly thought of amongst our support

god bless the holy goalie

Agree0 Disagree0

Forster turns up in big games wi huge saves but his lack of ability to command his area concerns me. Boruc has a solid all round game, but let the carry on in his head cause lapses in concentration. I'd still say Boruc wis the better keeper but. My top 3 in my lifetime (24 and a half years) would be Bonner, Boruc then Forster!

Agree0 Disagree0

@HB: Bonner? really mate? In my time, 54 years, I think Bonner was incredibly lucky to have played as many games as he did.A very average keeper.
