My Cockermouth spaniel had a better pedigree than they two. Although Balde was never really given a chance to be fair

I have to say that it is ever so refreshing to witness the broad consensus emerging among management and fans RE signing policy.

It would seem that RD has a very fixed idea of what he wants / needs and that the fans are happy to trust and accept that he knows best.

It appears that he will not be rushed in to landing just "anybody" to boost the numbers and appease the support (big tick)

It would seem that he would rather sign a non 1st team "project" than a £1m-£2m "gamble"

When a manager screams out loudly, confidently and authoritatively (a) I am happy with what I've got and they have my trust (b) I know who I don't want to lose and I don't intend losing them anytime soon ( c) I will only be signing players that I think can enhance the 1st team and/or players for the future and (d) If anything, I will look to reduce the squad size (to 21 to 22) to create the room for youth to make an impression day to day within the 1st team squad. it tells me that RD has a blueprint for success, and just as importantly, intends to implement it.

There have been some posts revolving around who should go, and some players on the fans' lists have surprised me a little. Granted, we all have our opinions and our favourites, but some posters have pointed out that we are best served by those players we know and trust as opposed to punting them on and replacing them with modestly expensive dross.

In the above scenario I speak of the likes of Mulgrew who will always split the support BUT surely to goodness he merits a "squad number" especially when you consider the very real economic constraints that CFC operate within.

The extent of "competition" from position to position is actually reasonably good at the moment at CFC. When you look at middle to front (excluding the striker), there are a number of contenders for starting slots when you ponder the contributions and talents of GMS, Armstrong, Brown, Bitton, Johanssen, Henderson, and Commons (and I will add in Forrest just to annoy those who go in to a tailspin at the very mention of his name.

The defence, when all fit, is in good hands too. Keep in mind the economic constraints.

When LG starting bulleting home headers and glancing them across goalkeepers in to the far away corner, it got my attention. Here is a lad "actively" turning a corner and playing with sufficient confidence to have a go from +20 yards when the out ball or support isn't available. With his left peg he can hit small targets and he doesn't take too long to decide either. He is a different player to the one that arrived. I accept that more strength and depth in that area would be useful, but (with tongue in cheek), that striker that can score the scrappy goals with both feet and head, score the screamers, dribble, link up, and hunt down ball passing defenders when the opposition has the ball, will be difficult to come by! If RD's "issue" with LG is experience and his inability to hold it up effectively or stay onside when playing off the shoulder of the last man, RD is essentially looking for someone who can either (a) do what LG doesn't do and all the things that he does do, or (b) find a player with the potential to do better, those things that LG doesn't do well enough. RD is CORRECT to work on this part of the team with extreme caution given a near £6m aggregate loss (excluding wages) on strikers that never assumed the mantle.

Remember folks. If RD can nudge the squad along and seek out improvement (even 2 to 3% here and there), the "aggregate" upside may be better than going all out for the £5m "striker" with the big reputation.

People have said to me recently "it's a bad day when you worry about LG getting injured", such is our lack of strength and depth. It's a pity that we just can't get behind the lad and celebrate his advancement.

A happy settled camp, playing to a "system", is CFC's best hope for ECL qualification. I may be in the minority, but the ECL qualification formula for success may already have been perfected .

Just a thought

Have to agree with your points our team the second half of the season was on point and I think bringing the two Utd lads in in January could be key to our CL campaign. strictly on the footballing side of things LGs attitude and overall ability has drastically improved. However his offield "ned" persona still lingers over his head. He will always have it against him but I do hope he is a changed man. Having Broony available for the qualifiers will plug the whole we had last season. I'm not on the fence with mulgrew more falling off it. He can put in a performance but I think he lacks the skill to be either type of CMs Broony and Biton are.

have to disagree about LG's 'improvement',he has always been an excellent striker,I think we would have seen his 'improvement ' earlier in the season if RD had given him a decent run in the team from the start of the season,i will concede that his diet and overall fitness might have improved, but certain kinds of striker don'nt need to be superfit as they have an eye for goal like LG has,i don'nt think RD should be praised for improving LG rather he should be chastised for not playing enough at the start.

Personally I think that your post ranks as one of the most perplexing yet. To make it interesting, do you think RD has improved any player at CFC? For RD to do a good job ( day to day ) what would you say defined best the criteria that he would otherwise be measured against.

I think RD has improved the overall fitness and the dietary habits of the whole squad which is a good thing, and he seems to be building a good team spirit and squad togetherness, but players he has improved, maybe Biton and Vvd,LG was playing the same way in his lone spell at Hibs, goalscoring wise,so I just thought your speel praising RD for turning him into this great goalscorer was a bit over the top.

Can anyone recommend a good android tv box? I saw it was mentioned in another thread but having read some reviews it seems that streaming football matches isn't always that good. So I would like to know if its worth getting?
This is obviously instead of paying for ssn/EPL wages!
Cheers

I have a Droidbox-T8 as it was recommended to me as he best make and it works fine for me mate. Other models available but I believe Droidbox is a solid make to go for. The T8 works great for sport and movies.

Not a tech geek by any stretch but just think of it as an extension of your PC onto your tv. I believe how well you can stream on your PC is a reflection of how well your box will stream. The picture, due to the higher quality screens on TVs though is much better than what you get sat at your PC.

I saw some reviews for the Droidbox T8 Jim and it looks like the one to go for. I don't know if my internet connection would be fast enough to stream football as I can't get fibre optic in my area yet. That said, I can still stream games on my laptop reasonably most of the time.

30 Jun 2015 05:14:02
Yeah I think they're the most popular ones to go go for at the minute mate. If you can stream on your laptop reasonably then your box should work spot on. Just ask around jack the lads or knock off nigels about getting it chipped or jail broken etc.

The droid box is a good box and should get you a decent quality picture as long as the stream is good quality and you have fast internet. The processor, ram and you are just as important as a decent internet speed and the droid box x8u has good hardware. You also want to make sure it is fully loaded so you have all the apps for watching sport, movies and tv shows. You can do it yourself which can be time consuming unless you have good tutorials.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - honestly the box makes little difference, it is the quality of the stream and the speed of your internet connection that is the most important. Even a rubbish box, with the right app, should be able to produce a decent stream, it does not take much processing power or require much RAM to run streaming apps. If the app you use puts out a low quality picture, then the best box and TV in the world will still put out a crap picture. The only real difference the processing power and RAM make for a streaming box is the speed of searching etc. More power will load up apps quicker and you can swap between apps more quickly, plus run more at a time, things like that. Just to purely watch streaming TV on it, you really do not need to buy the best.}

What I am particularly pleased about this season is the lack of loan signings, last season if my memory is correct we had 5 players on loan, they have all left now and in their place have come Boyata, Armstrong and Mackay-Smith and it looks like any further additions will be permanent deals also, loans should only be used as a last resort in my eyes.

If the right loan comes along at the right time then it can be a great thing. Denayer last season outshone Virgil in my eyes. Although we lost him at the end of the season, he's had nothing but praise for Celtic since he left and that can only enhance our reputation to other potential targets.

I like loans imagine we had bought wakasso tonev berget or guidette wish we had done scepovic on a loan 1st same with a lot of the other terrible signings that have cost us millions like balde pukki derk
