Deepest sympathy goes to the family of Stevie Chalmers. Been a massively sad week for the Celtic family, but we will make sure these icons of ours are never forgotten. Thoughts and prayers.

In my humble opinion:
I think the Lisbon Lions will go down in history as one of the greatest Teams ever.
To do what they did against Inter was unbelievable:
I’m sure in Betting odds Inter must have been BIG Favs ( odds on ) .
I know people will say, “ you would say that “ being a Celtic fan. Well yes I do, but Let’s take The Lisbon Lions for what they were.
A team
A Great Football Team
No superstars
You wore the jersey,
you took on the best and made yourselfs legends, we can only dream.

We love you all.
Gob Bless the Lisbon Lions.

It takes so much more than being a great player or a great manager to become a Celtic legend like Billy or Stevie may the angels welcome them both into eternal Paradise or Jimmy, Big Jock or Tommy. Brendan who?

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Apr 2019 20:01:35
Well said Peter; they are all immortal - and will never be forgotten.
They shared a love of the club, each other and the supporters, reciprocated by all - even those too young to have watched them.

I can't agree mate. They should have played to the whistle. Letting a team walk through and score just doesn't sit right with me. Even tho we've conceded in a similar situation this season. The ref was right not to stop the game.

How about a wee debate this Monday afternoon.
With the sad deaths of big Billy and Stevie Chalmers, both as highly regarded now as when they were playing 50 years ago.
Do you think modern day players like Pogba, Aguero, Sterling etc will be held in the same high regard in 50 years time.
My opinion is they will be soon forgotten in a couple of years time let alone 50 years.

Tim. The players you mention would not be at their clubs if it wasn't for the sky high salaries they are on.
The Lisbon lions played football for the love of the game and all of them have remained fans of the club after they stopped playing, they will always be one of us.
I somehow can't see the likes of Sanchez or Pogba being welcomed back to Old trafford in 50 years time, but you never know.
So sad to hear of the passing of Stevie Chalmers. Thank you for your fantastic contribution to our great history and may you rest in peace.

Messi and Ronaldo but no one else really.

29 Apr 2019 16:13:02
I do think Messi and Ronaldo will be.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Apr 2019 16:38:29
Difficult to answer this one Tim as the Lions are immortal, as a team more so than as individuals, in the sense that I believe their individual legend status comes from being part of the firt british team to conquer Europe and the fantastic legacy they left under Jock Stein. If I am to think of a player (legend) who I think will still be remembered and revered in 50 years time I would haave to say "il Capitano" Francesco Totti of AS Roma who was a one club man and would easily have earned a lot more elsewhere. I am sure there are others but I live in Rome and he is the first one to come to mind.

The 'World Class' tag has been abused and devalued in recent years, where absolutely crazy valuations of over-rated players has helped confuse cost with class, producing too many imposters.
Truly world class - to me - means the absolute best in the world in that position and should be limited (in football) to those who can consistently produce the extraordinary or excellent.

The Lisbon Lions were the best in Scotland, Europe and possibly the world - had the match against Racing Club of Argentina had been fairly and properly conducted on football ability alone.
In my lifetime - Puskas, Di Stefano, Pele, Maradonna, Jinky, Best, Cruyff, Beckenbaur, Greaves, Dalglish, Maldini, Baresi, Ronaldo, Messi and Larsson would possibly be WC players I have watched?
I actually think Aguero is a great striker, but far too many in the EPL are bummed-up out of all proportion by SLY and themselves.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Apr 2019 19:03:44
Buffon or khan 2 world class goalkeepers. Ronaldo zidanne the old Madrid players like Carlos will live forever I believe their is plenty when you think about it. But now a days is only Messi and Ronaldo. Well never see much managers go down in history these days because they don’t last long in their jobs great manager and not to say I like the man is Alex Ferguson.

29 Apr 2019 13:33:00
How do you solve the problem that is rogic, he's had decidedly average season in and out and injured a lot, on Sat it was as bad as av seen him, his shooting was abysmal and decision making awful, he passed to eddy when he should have shot how lenny doesn't give weah more game time in that position is a mystery.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - We need a new CAM as badly as we need new defenders.}

29 Apr 2019 13:57:34
Wasn't Weah away with the USA under 20s?

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Apr 2019 14:11:19
Christie has been a big loss and Rogic is imo a fringe/ impact player. Still worth keeping tho.

Powell?

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Apr 2019 14:34:02
Rogic needs competition in the position. Might make him work harder. Powell is on our radar so if we do sign him we’ve solved the problem area and concentrate on defence.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Apr 2019 15:21:09
He has been at the club since 2012 - apart from a short loan spell back to Australia - and there has always been fitness/ injury problems he has great natural ability; but no real consistency over a season.
His goals are usually special, but few and far-between and the team needs a much more energetic and dominant player in that position.
Give me a Murdo McLeod/ Stan Petrov type any day and Christie is the closest we have - although maybe wee bit light-weight in big games.
Another thing; I was hoping Ntcham would kick-on from his first season and make a big impact, but he's another one under-performing.

29 Apr 2019 16:10:42

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Apr 2019 16:49:39
I said in the summer that unless Rogic had a full decent season we need to look at somebody else for that position. Well I think we need a new CAM now. It's arguably the most important position in the side and it's one that needs an injection of real quality.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Apr 2019 20:06:46
Personally I love rogic as a player but your right he's not consistent enough and injury pron so from left field a bit would anyone take a pint on kagawa from Dortmund my German pal was telling me today he's surplus at Dortmund and besiktas where he's on line don't seem too keen to keep him.

Think Big Jock is getting the Lions together
Sad news indeed so close to Cesar.
Stevie put the finishing touch for the European Cup win.
Remember meeting him at Shawfield as I went with a mate to watch the Bully Wee. He said he liked to go around the grounds watching various teams (think he was either spying or scouting) .
Lovely guy and took the time to chat with us. He could not praise Jock high enough as a manager, man-manager or person.

29 Apr 2019 11:43:08
He was a really modest and courteous man and like many of the Lions I was lucky enough to meet, attended the supporters 'rallies' and tribute nights giving back to the support.
One of the nippiest and clever 'finishers' I ever saw. RIP.

Just a thought. If you offered Aberdeen a point now would they take it? Plus do yous think it will be a good game on Saturday with both teams going for it?, sometimes these games can be a bit poor if both teams settle for the draw,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 Apr 2019 07:32:05

I just cannot understand how any Celtic fan thinking that Celtic won't win on Saturday . Aberdeen have a whole lot of injuries and a suspension . They are missing nearly half as many as we are and know before they start that statistically they are likely to lose . I expect Celtic to win and if we happen to lose I will not only be disappointed but also surprised
I think some of our negatives will be delighted if we lose, as they would love to be proven right.
