What's the betting we get Legia Warsaw in the next round can see it happening all day long!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

31/1 I suspect .

Agree1 Disagree0

I think we are a stick on for an English side. It would be lovely to cuff one of them!

Agree0 Disagree0

Strictly speaking Chris it's 30/1 as we can't get red bull but just being pedantic!😀

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair play Jim Doc . You are right .

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Nov 2014 18:48:11
Jungle Jim you seem to be in a pint half empty mood. I don't think supporters on here are accepting current squad of players/manager as progress BUT what we do recognise is the present squad is a work in progress with a bright young manager who has to us good attributes and is taking us through a transitional period to modernise our approach to the game. I do believe he can achieve this but the next transfer window could either make or break him so I hope he gets the backing of the board and chooses players wisely

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Well said Gerry. It's an absolute disgrace that segment of supporters were more supportive of club appointing a manager who had just took his last club down to championship (mowbray) and then appointing a manager with no experience (lennon) all because they fitted the profile of this "celtic minded" pi$h previously discussed. Deila had done a fantastic job at stromsgodset, yet there seems to be a witch hunt against the guy

Agree1 Disagree0

Dn30. I know you never aimed your post at me, I haven't said a bad word against rd since his arrival and am behind his vision for the club but would be lying if I said I think the standard of football has improved under him .others on here are similar but if you criticise displays /performances of the team its a witch hunt, football wise dn in all honesty how many games can you say this season have been better or even on a par with previous fare, I don't want rd sacked, I want to see his next two windows and see if he can fulfil his ideas but right now the performances are mostly average at best

Agree1 Disagree0

I think we should be more than capable of discussing the merits of Deila without bringing prejudices of past managers into the discussion . Deila will be a success or a failure on his results and not on whether he is better or worse than previous managers .
Deila is attempting to modernise or method of playing and getting good results in the short time he has been with us. I think and hope he will bring a lot of success to us in the years to come .

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree deep river, I could have written that post myself. As you say though as soon as you mention anything negative regarding performances you get branded an RD hater for no reason. The 'reading between the lines your post is a pop at the manager' quotes really annoy me. If I am having a go at performances without even mentioning the manager I wish people would stop coming on and telling me what I'm supposed to be really saying just because it suits there own agenda. The quality of performance this season has gone down by quite a lot in my opinion. Markie

Agree0 Disagree0

Gerrym8; I admit I am finding it difficult to be as enthusiastic as some, but in my opinion we are not at the standards I would expect of my beloved Celtic and I know all about transitional periods as I have seen them all since the 60's.

This is not about RD or how many trophies we are still involved in, it is merely an observation on the way the team are playing and the quality of squad that we are settling for.
How many games have most of the team been anywhere near top form or have we came away feeling delight?
It hasn't helped that we are unable to hold onto any real talent and we currently have a surplus of injury prone players who contribute very little over a season.

Obviously, I agree we are a work in progress under a new regime, but it would be nice to see a bit of style and guile -especially domestically where our huge advantage is not being utilised where we have been unconvincing in several games.

I am like the rest of you and only want the very best for the club and supporters; but the grumpy old guy in me has to have a moan when I think we can do better and as usual I will give credit where it's due if and when

Agree0 Disagree0

Deep river bhoy no post was ever directed at you mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

A fantastic job at stromgodset isn't helping celtic. I firmly believe ronny is out his depth at celtic as we are consistently falling short of acceptable standards legia Maribor Astra Salzburg none of those teams should be troubling us as badly as they have been. I understand it's not all ronnys fault but all ronny seems to get right are his assessments of how he wants to play and why performances were poor he's not actually delivering regardless of people saying we aree still in all comps.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dn30, I know I just pointed it out to avoid you possibly thinking I was just steaming in for a argument, chris02 I think I done that, but the only real comparison is up against our own immediate history /form .that has to be an acceptable reference point, without comparing him to anybody are you happy with the standard of play

Agree0 Disagree0

RD out of his depth. It gets so bloody tiring hearing this type of comment. what manager has not seemed out of his depth at this stage then?

Agree0 Disagree0

Fed up with the digs at RD when all our managers have struggled in Europe in there first seasons.

Time will tell and come the end of the season I really do hope we get a Treble.

Everyone wants wins and fantastic football, problem is not many teams in the world can provide you with both.

Agree1 Disagree0

Really stupid to suggest if we get a treble all is good and proves doubters wrong. If we get a treble and performances are as poor as now will you be happy to say here's 500 pound again or will people return to watch us? I and all "haters" want ronny to succeed because we want to watch us play good football and win thing but do you see it happening?

Agree0 Disagree0

The difficulty we have in playing attractive football is often down to the fact that in the SPL, the opposition don't come out to play . No matter who is manager if one team puts up a 8/9 man barrier within 25 yards of their goal, you are not going to have a good attractive game of football .
This has been the same going back thirty years . Scoring an early goal sometimes helps as they have to come out to get something out of the game . However some managers keep their team sitting in with the hope of getting a breakaway goal and hence a draw.
All Celtic can do is to continue probing and hope they get a couple of goals and then we might see some football.
The unattractive football was evident before MO'N 's time during it and after it . To blame Deila for it, is really not fair as I can remember boring matches for decades . Maybe if we could get behind the team and really support them, we may not be so bored .

Agree0 Disagree0

Hahah very good Jim.

You firmly believe he is out of his depth. That doesn't sound like someone who is willing to get behind him.

once again, what manager have you been happy with at celtic after 4 months?

Agree0 Disagree0

Jim must have Celtic mixed up with Chelsea, Barca, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich and of course Salzburg cause I don't ever recall Celtic winning with style.

I am only 34 mind you so maybe there was before my time, as in back in 67

Agree1 Disagree0

@jim1972 sorry jim I'm struggling to see how not winning treble is not progress. Can I remind you of our domestic cup records and we are in middle of rebuilding process.

Too many people wanting Deila to fail, it's abundantly clear to me why.

Agree1 Disagree0

Edinbhoy I support him more than most at games because I go. We have upto 15000 invisible season ticket holders at games and another 15000 who don't even bother going or buying season tickets they are showing more disgust than me. Every home game I'm the same I put my correct score on optimistic about what is about to unfold 3/4-0/1 yet consistently walk away talking about how poor we were and I'm not the only one. I don't care who manages us really so long as I see decent results and performances consistently which isn't unreasonable in domestic matches especially

Agree0 Disagree0

Kev T, I nearly agree with you, like this season we normally win some games with style, the problem is not very many .
One thing is sure there are a few who are not happy because we are winning without style, but you know as well as I there would be a hell of a lot more if we were losing and playing without style .

Agree0 Disagree0

As long as you see decent results and performances. Well we are getting decent results do you not admit?

If you require both good results and performances at once then you must have spent the last 10 years feeling just as you do now?

Agree0 Disagree0

Some times your fate really can be written in the stars .What is it going to take for us to be knocked out off Europe this season? .If you look at the stats this season .We have been knocked out the CL twice, we get beat 3-1 at parkhead last night and still qualify for the last 32 and we still have a game left in this group section, I just can't get my head around this .A few seasons ago Chelsea won the CL and had no right to win it they hardly won a game and were rotten in every round .We have John Guditti avilable for the knockout stages and we could strengthen in the winter transfer window so who knows what could happen, Lady luck has being shinning on us I hope she keeps shinning all the way to the final in Poland, So I ask what is it going to take to knock us out of europe?

Believable4 Unbelievable1

Any decent team in the next round I would guess mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

@Rayman You must have been gutted last night to find out we had qualified.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Nov 2014 20:22:16
Rayman you are the most dour fan iv ever seen on here. Even with the positives in the team right now ie qualifying, the 2 domestic cups and league form and still can't help but have a dig. Give it a plucking rest

Agree0 Disagree0

No mate only gutted at the performance Do you seriously think we going to get to next round based on the that performance or is your blind following of RD blindin your reality. Remember we could face a Man City for eg, then again they not better than Red Bul as RD sad we will not face a better side.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - We could get Olymioakos, Ludogorets, Apoel Nicosia, BATE or even Maribor, Red Bull are a better team than all of them.}

@ Gunnie, really? positives? can you tell me which? Was it the great success of Legia or our demolition of Maribor, or even our brilliant display at drawing against that euro giant Astra? I just a realist mate and in or current position I don't hold out much hope of getting thro, but come the game I will think we can beat anyone because thatswhy we are there but in the cold lightof day mate I don't hold much hope.

Agree2 Disagree0

Rayman, who was the last manager to have Celtic in 4 competitions after Christmas in his debut season?

Agree0 Disagree0

@ Kev T, straws and clutching come to mind. Are you really happy at what your seeing.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Did you see the result of the poll you asked for about if people were enjoying the football so far?}

Ed you state that like its a fact, when it mearly an opinion. Common sense would say the CL teams a better standard in general. I wonder if any of these teams will get further than Red bull.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Your common sense says that CL teams like BATE, Maribor and Apoel are better than EL teams like Inter Milan, Borussia Muchengladbach, Villareal, Spurs, Everton, PSV, Feyenoord, Eindhoven, Sevilla or Dynamo Moscow. I'm out of this conversation, you're not even worth talking to.}

We would be very unlucky to meet a team much better than Sazburg were last night, but at the same time Celtic will have to play at their best to qualify for the next round .

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree, I hope PL allows for the team to be strengthened as we have a good chance to do well if we invest right and with JG available Forrest back we just need a bit more cover and creativity I heard we was scouting the Benfica-Moreirense game the other day with names being touted Loris Benito-LB Ola John-Wing (Tonev hearing awaits) Derley-ST all of these likely loans. Ed have you heard anything on this?

Agree0 Disagree0

Rahman take a step back and relax. We are very lucky to have RD. He will do the treble this year, just you wait and see. Celtic deserved at least a draw on Thursday, apart from the first 25 mins we played well!

Agree0 Disagree1

Rayman will come on still moaning if we get a treble this year.

Lets face facts here the only time I can recall Celtic playing great football was under Tommy Burns. And what did that get us? Beatings from Rangers and 1 Scottish Cup.

Since then the football has been hit and miss, more miss IMO but we have had a good degree of success.

I would be happy if Celtic were to play like Salzburg. I find them really entertaining and the work ethic was fantastic.

Just to remind all the doubters out there, remember the way Ajax outplayed us in the Champ Lge last year, yeah well why don't you have a watch of the Ajax v Salzburg Europa League games and see Ajax got totally destroyed.

Agree0 Disagree0

@Kev T the time to praise RD is when the treble happens mate. Not before because the football we watching is poor. Too many on here keep saying he will do this he will do that. let's wait and see. I remember last season NL was getting stick on here when he was on a unbeaten and clean sheet run. How come it was ok to give him stick but not RD. How we would luv an unbeaten run just now.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Nov 2014 17:48:09
Rayman if u don't class european football after xmas, top of the league, a league cup semi final, and still in scottish cup under a new manager not even 6 months into the managers chair a positive then i'd fear what u consider a negative

Agree0 Disagree0

Last I saw ed it was 50/50 on that poll which means just as many not happy that are happy. But I suspect the happy 1s were just supporting RD rather than truly enjoying the football.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Well it's not 50/50 now, it's at 75%-25%. What you suspect is of no importance so instead of straw clutching and playing the amateur psychic like you know what other people are thinking face it, according to a poll you asked for, you're in the minority by 3-1.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Rayman, football in the main is all about winning.

RD wants to make us win with good football? Will it happen, who knows.

As many on here have posted, results first, then performances will follow. I get the feeling from your posts that you won't ever accept RD no matter what he wins.

I seen some really good football from us against Salzburg and let's not forget we had a weakened team. Lustig, Denayer, Wakaso & Guidetti would have helped more than having Matthews, Ambrose, MacGregor and Griffiths.

What I want and everyone else is for the good football to last 90 mins, not just the odd 5-10 min period.

To end this, I would always celebrate a scrappy 1 nil win, over playing great and getting beat.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dth100. I find it hard to follow your logic, in the qualifying rounds we were beaten by a team who played an illegal player . I know in Scotland that doesn't really matter and they would set the game to be replayed . UefA have more stringent rules . In the Europa Cup, league section, league is the important word we have amassed 8 points four points more than the 3rd place team, that means we have qualified with a game to spare . In neither situation is there any element of luck .

Here Ed007 I see on the BBC gossip that Darren fletcher may be leaving utd what sorta fee you think would be involved and do you think Celtic would have any chanceon getting him think he would be good for DM for us

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - There won't be any fee, his contract is up in the summer.}

Plenty experience, good at ball retention but an iffy injury history, might be a good shout.A Celtic fan as well so might not be too hard to deal with. Hmm.

Agree1 Disagree0

His illness has been well documented and I am not sure he would be able to play the high speed, high pressure game that Deila requires .

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't mind that be a player that will stay too rather than looking for a stepping stone to something bigger as he's been there done that

Agree0 Disagree0

Dunno Chris02 when he came on against England for Scotland he looked mobile enough and got really stuck in certainly more mobile than mulgrew

Agree0 Disagree0

Fletcher is nothing but a squad player, not good enough for Man U and not good enough for Celtic.

I wouldn't like to see Celtic being used as a retirement cheque for yet another EPL player.

Keane, Juninho, Wright and Ljunberg to name but a few have all been better players than Fletcher in their day and we wasted a lot of cash on them let's not make the same mistake again.

We need a decent left back, a centre back and a target man. Forrest getting back to his best and staying clear of injury would be another plus.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree Frewbhoy, wouldn't want Fletcher at Celtic.

His better days are well well behind him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry frewbhoy but have to disagree with you fletcher has made so far almost 220 appearances for man u and is younger than kris common's does that mean if we give him another contract that we're topping up his retirement fund and in my opinion he would be a great asset to Celtic

Agree0 Disagree0

Big D I have said previously Commons days at Celtic were by, in too many games he is posted missing and for the type of player and position he plays in he offers little creative spark when the team are struggling.

What has happened to Rogic and Henderson we haven't seen or heard anything of them this season.

Why do we need another CM when we are already top heavy in this position?

Fletcher likes to play the same style of game as Broony it's just Broony plays it a lot better than Fletcher does.

I would be saddened to think we let Ledley go for a few thousand and then signed a player like Fletcher, who in my opinion is sub standard of Ledley.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry big D if Manchester United thought he could return to near his pre-illness form they would be giving him a new contract . What isn't known is how far below his pre-illness form has he fallen . The short cameo like appearance for Scotland didn't answer any questions .
He could do very well, but I think it's too big of a gamble .

I was disappointed with the defeat last night, although I was relieved to qualify, as I wouldn't have fancied having to geť a result in zagreb.
The league form is worrying because too many performances have been poor, despite what the results say.
Saturday was a case in point, we really laboured to beat a team who were in the championship last season, and it wasn't a one off, teams now think we are vulnerable, and are having a right go at us.
I think the policy of selling players has to be managed better. At the start of last season we sold Wanyama, Hooper, Wilson, and in January we sold Ledley. That is far too many to be selling at one time, it is virtually the spine of the team.
I may be wrong, but I don't think that we are in such financial trouble that we had to decimate the team.
Surely player sales could be managed, so that the bulk of the team is not sold in one go, and a lot more work is done to identify their replacements.
How many strikers have we signed to try and replace Hooper. Balde, Pukki, Griffiths, scepovic, hopefully we have now found him in Guidetti.
That is a lot of wasted money,
With this policy, it is important to try and get the replacements right first time if possible, that's how you save money.
I think the scouting department needs an overhaul.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - League form has nothing to do with performances, Gerry, form is determined by results only, by wins, losses and draws. Form wise we are the best in the league with a LWWWWW over the last 6 games. Form usually only covers the previous 6 matches and our form for the previous 6 matches was WWDWDW, so our form has improved over our last 12 league games, we've dropped 3 points in the last six games (the loss to the mighty Accies) but dropped 4 points in the previous six matches (draws with Murderwell and Dundee), so our league form has improved over the last 6 matches. How many times do you hear commentators saying 'the form guide means nothing in this match'?}

Because of the financial climate that we live in, and because unlike our nearest neighbours, we really don't have any TV income . I noticed a table today which showed Chelsea payed £16m in agents fees, even smaller clubs were spending £4/5m
Now I know we shouldn't compare ourselves solely to the Epl, but they are our nearest neighbours, share a land border and same language . We either have to develop our own, or buy young and the problem is if either group do well with us these players will be encouraged to demand a move by their agents. In fact there is very little Celtic can do to prevent players going.

Agree0 Disagree0

I fully accept we have to sell players, most clubs outside the English premier league have to.
My point though was that we should try and manage it that we don't sell the players all at once, so we can keep some continuity in the squad,

Agree0 Disagree0

Celtic have very little control over when they sell their players . Urged on by their agents, players deand a move to the rich Epl and if Celtic don't agree, the agents can get Celtic a bad name for been difficult to do transfer business

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Clubs don't get a bad name because they refuse to sell a player.}

I read the PL article online and it had a list of tv revenue from last season we made 1.8m compared to bottom PL club Cardiff 62m. Neil Doncaster seems more bothered about Rangers earning money from tv revenue than the entirety of Scotland, he can't even find a league sponsor. It just puts pressure on all the clubs to try work miracles to be competitive

Morning Ed I was speaking to a boy today at the gym and he has heard it is a done deal that Celtic strips will be made by Warrior sports clothing next Season! We have dropped Nike as this Warrior want to break into the world football market and see Celtic as a global brand so have offered more than Nike.
Have you heard anything about this?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I spoke about this months ago.}

I know you did Ed but I wasn't sure if it was a done deal or not? Do you know if it is official?

Cheers

The decline of Celtic Football Club is so sad, but even sadder are the supporters who are accepting the current squad of players/manager as progress.
In recent years when it became clear we had to live within our means, we have went from holding our own in CL groups under WGS with a solid reputation in Europe and teams dreading trips to Celtic park to a period of European mediocrity and the evaporation of home advantage and memorable results and I include last seasons awful CL campaign in that.

There are very few players at the club who would qualify as true Celtic class in previous years and the inability to keep a clean sheet (in almost every game) is not being compensated - like it has been in the past - with enough quality, attacking players who guarantee goals.
There are players who make the same mistakes time and time again and there are others who think they are better than they actually are.

Salzburg were better than us all over the pitch and controlled large parts of the match and could have scored a few more as they were much more threatening and slicker than our lads.
However, cast your mind back to the Astra games and we were again, anything but convincing in both.
Obviously we have qualified for the knockout stage, but looking at the calibre of potential opponent, we really need to up the stakes and bring in some quality to avoid embarrassment and that is not easy in the January window with little options available.

Maybe Europe is pie in the sky at this time and we should be concentrating on retaining our title and adding a cup or two as to be honest, from one week to another I am never over-confident in any game.
I suppose it could be worse? I remember the Anglo-Scottish Cup and Texaco Cup games when we were even worse than we are now.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Jungle, yes we know you are not often over confident and it is true Salzburg could have scored another goal or two. However it is equally true Celtic could and probably should have scored another two or three goals . Two positives, we have European Football after Christmas and secondly I thought despite been torn apart for the first twenty minutes, we steadied the ship and we were probably the best team in the second half . We got a bit of the Celtic pride and determination back in the second half .

Agree3 Disagree0

JJ I think you have summed it up pretty well. Over the last number of years we have got weaker and weaker.

I remember Rosenborg having a great home record during the early 2000s when they beat teams like Real Madrid on their home ground in Norway. They, like us, had an enviable home record in Europe and seemed to pull off incredible results against the odds. Fast forward a decade and they have all but disappeared from the European scence.

It shouldn't be a comparison that I feel I can make given that we have superior resources and potential earnings etc. It worries me though that we are gradually disappearing of the radar.

Deep River Bhoy below also made a great point. I have been watching Celtic for 30+ years and can only remember one or two more squads that I couldn't select a players from for a select team.

Agree0 Disagree1

JJim. Good post a very good points. However, I am a bit practical. WGS did exactly what you said. Unfortunately with the other side going into liquidation (or, as some would say, unfairly relegated!), Hearts and Hibs going down. our league is very unattractive to sponsors and top players. The cash and challenge is just not there. Hibs, the first British team to play in Europe, Celtic, the first British team to win EC/CL whatever. Evn Rangers won the Cup Winners Cup. Great days. But that was then and this is now. The biggest leagues (not necessarily the biggest clubs) have choked the finances. Champions league. Oh, England, Germany Spain etc had 4 Champions? financial cow for the big boys and we along with many other great clubs can only try to get a slice of the cake. Its hard to invest when the commodity is limited. I follow the team because I am a loyal supporter. I wish we could break the chains and play in a bigger league but the smaller players in those leagues don't want the competition and EUFA/FIFA have to look after that cash cow. I wish the clubs like ourselves would get together and form their own super league. Yes FIFA and UEFA would ban us etc. but you watch if the sponsors start to take an interest (which I believe they would). Before you know it the big boys would be interested. I can dream anyway. Sorry for the sidetracking but I passionately believe that starting a super league would, over time, either pull FIFA/EUFA towards us or create another European/International Association. With all the corruption feeling against FIFA this may be the time to do it. Ed if you don't publish I will not be offended. My rant and feelings vented now. Hail Hail

Agree0 Disagree0

I think this is very harsh on the team. Salzburg flew out the traps last night and caught us cold (which is no defence) but I think the way they started they would have taken the lead against anyone.

I thought for the entire second half we were the better team, and could easily have equalised with griffiths header or izzy squaring that ball. They only got their third because our fullbacks were pushed so far up the park trying to salvage a draw. Worth pointing out we had already qualified when the third went in. 2-1 or 3-1 makes no difference, a defeat is still a defeat, i'd rather see us push for an equalizer.

With more sharpness at the start and guidetti on the pitch I think we'd have beaten a very good side last night. in fact I think that's the best we've played in europe all season.

Agree1 Disagree1

Sounds like another dig at Deila. Cut the guy a bit of slack! That team has dropped in standard over past 4 years, it has not happened overnight

Agree1 Disagree1

DN30 read it again . it has heehaw to do with Deila; it is about the direction our club has taken over a relatively short time and the decline in quality and standards that some of you are happy to accept in silence.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's good to have qualified and over the course of the group we deserve to be through. that said there are serious flaws in the team and the manager must take responsibility for these and find a remedy. I won't talk about the team selection as there may be reasons we as supporters are not aware of, however what has Ben clear since the start of the season is we start games very slowly, in fact in the majority of games particularly at home we have been lucky not to be one or two goals down in the first fifteen minutes. it has been striking how much possession opposition teams have in the first fifteen minutes of games. I am not only talking about European opposition, Motherwell, Hamilton and Dundee to name a few made better starts to the game than us. This sluggish approach was bound to result in what happened last night when we could have lost four goals in the the opening period.

Agree0 Disagree0

Junglejim it looked that way to me mate. Apolgies if I've picked it up wrong.

Agree0 Disagree0

Top players are not likely to come to Scotland just because Hibs and hearts are in the SPL . The other club had an unique way of attracting top talent . It's unlikely that they will ever be able to put the transfer war chest together or wages and loans together to get the type of player they had at the end of the last century and first decade of this century . With any Govan club in the future, having to play by rules, somewhat similar as every other SPL club, I don't see the standard of players we had in the late 90's and early 00's ever been back at Celtic park for longer than a season or two.

Agree0 Disagree0

@DN you truly have been found out mate. Why do you only single out the last4 years? Is It because a certain NL was manager? You are constantly on here having a go at posters for having a "dig" at RD. Is that not what your doing to NL? This celtic minded thing is only in your head mate, there was plenty of opinions who would be good before RD was appointed and many were nothing to do with Celtic. My own choice was Stevie Clarke.I just glad it wasn't Magath. Also I sure you may be aware we won the European cup in 67. Does that not mean we been in decline ever since?

Agree0 Disagree0

@Rayman The man who would rather watch us lose 6-1 to Barcelona than see us lift a trophy.

Agree0 Disagree0

@ AM you talk utter piiiish mate where did I say that. I said I would rather got to a CLnight than a final against St> Mirren you are a another who loves to put words in peoples mouth. I tell you what though I would rather go to a final against St.Mirren than watch us get humped by Europe league standard.

Agree0 Disagree0

Also do you remember beating Barca that famous night or do you remember beating some chump in a league cup final years ago mate. I know which game the world stood up and noticed.

Agree0 Disagree0

@rayman You've just repeated it so how am I putting words in your mouth?

"I said I would rather got to a CLnight than a final against St Mirren"

CL night Barca 6 Celtic 1, or a final against St Mirren with a good chance of winning a cup? You'd rather watch any CL game than see us win a trophy. I don't need to put words in your mouth, son, you tie yourself in that many knots you'd need Houdini to get you out of it, you don't even seem to know yourself what you're saying just read the cracker on here. I followed Celtic to see them winning matches n wining trophies long before the cl was even heard of, a cl night is as important to me as a Scottish Cup game or a league cup game. The cl isn't the be all and end all of it, whatever game, in any tourney that the Hoops are playing is the be all and end all and lifting a trophy is the the aim of the game and as a supporter the best feeling in the world is seeing us doing. The scotish cup final and Winning the Double in our centenary year, I wouldn't swap that for a cl night, a Cl trophy maybe but not just one game, ask old guys that remember the 7-1 lc final if they would swap that just to watch a CL group match against Maribor. Was the 1989 Scottish cup final not better than watching us getting beat with Milan last year or remember the 1985 final, give me that over playing Braga any day? Cup wins are our bread and butter, the more trophies you win the more your dominating, trophies build you records and your history. I'm not saying Cl nights aren't quality but I wouldn't swap them for seeing us in a final, cl I important to us for the budo but the trophies we win make is the club we are, we've got the Coronation cup, the Empire exhibiton tophy, trophys that can never be won again. Sure get in the cl and fight tooth and nail, get to the last 16 and have a gloat and a party but don't forgot who we are, the biggest club in Scotland, the most successful club in existence in Scotland. I just don't think there is a better buzz than seeing us lift a trophy. You're going on about beating Barca, but what about all the rest of the games we've lost, had major flops in Europe, you seriously enjoy watching games like that rather than seeing us lifting the Scottish?

Yes I do mate. The football world has changed the cups no longer give us what we need. Only 10 -20 yrs ago the FA cup in England was 1 o the biggest games in football now nobody cares about it. Even the teams in it put out 2nd teams at times. Europe is where it is at its the only place where we can gauge ourselves. How do we know how good we are by beating St .Mirren in a cup final? Yes trophies are good but the Glasgow cup was a big thing in the days you talkabout, how is that trophy doing now? there is nothing nowadays like going to Celtic park on CL facing Barca for eg with the prospect of beating them, yes of course we might lose but we might lose the cup final too. Also the atmosphere on these nights are 2nd to none. Hampden is a shiiit hole with no atmosphere for me. Another wee point I bet you have watched the European cup final win in 67 a few times and like me can name the team and prob the teams we beat on the way. But can you name the team that last won us a cup? The point I makin is this is what puts us on the map worldwide and gives us kudos and vital finance for us to improve. The cups now sadly never will, that vital finance will allow us to get better players/coaches/scouts/facilities etc.The cups will never achieve this, so if I want my club to improve this is the right road to go down. Europe is king now esp CL and if you ask me the treble every year or the league and CL nights I will chose the latter.

weve got where we wanted to be, Europe after Christmas, top of league, but still have the same problems as the last 6-7 years (maybe longer) , we still need at least 1 cb, another lb . a playmaker in cm, a lw and a goalscorer (even If guidetti stays) we still have too many average players and too many squad players, were too good for home(just about) and not good enough for Europe, trying hard can only do so much, but the lack of quality at even this level of Europe is shocking, if asked for your best team ever and then work down how many times would you have to do it before anybody in tonights team /squad would appear, will anything signing wise be done about it this window hopefully but probably not, are the board even prepared or able to spend? am I being too harsh or over critical? imo no, as apart from 2-3 players that was an average team that beat us tonight, hopefully rd has had enough time now to know who to keep and can start his restructure for real

Deep river bhoy . I am not so sure
imo I thought Salzburg looked quite a good team tonight . They surrounded us well when we had the ball and were very slick passers of the ball. Some of their longer passes were first class. I think it's either they were very good or else we were very bad and made them look good . I have to say, I think it was more them been good.
After the last game many Celtic fans were very harsh saying Astra wouldn't pick up another point and both Celtic and Astra were very poor . I have to say I was confident Astra would do the job tonight . I think we have done well to qualify for European football after Christmas, and I certainly don't agree that our group was that low a standard We should be proud .

Well just back from the match, have to say although I'm disappointed at the result I actually enjoyed the game, as we sit in the lions end I couldn't really see what happened at first goal, the second I think Everyone in the ground seen it was s free header ( murder defending) but johanson took his goal superb and yeah last goal we were tiring badly, but I thought Salzburg played well also, there fans were a credit to them aswell, the only thing that grated me tonight was two eejits behind me constantly barking at their number (44 )sorry don't know his name , but all they kept on was somebody beak his legs or snap that b/-/:::you get my drift, instead of complimenting the boy cause he was pure class ran the show for them and think that's hardest Broonys had it this year, but we're through now hopefully get a decent team in next round do we can fill ground and show everyone that there's still a passion burning inside all us hoops

Dreadful performance by a squad that is weak willed, lacking the basic skills or creativity - but what the hell the club is in the black! I have to agree that the Salzburg no.44 is the calibre of player that we should have wearing the hoops and our fans deserve to be watching, clear out the dross we've got we need action and fans have to make their views known to the board
