Anyone think Alex Neil for next manager qould be agood shout?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

29 Jan 2021 01:19:49
He could be, has eight years od coaching and still not 40. Done great with Norwich, very consistant every year with PNE, even at low budget Hamilton got some results
But he will need help in a DOF here and not Peter messing in football stuff. Neil is not my first pick, but could do well.

Coatbridge bhoy, It would be his dream job.
His mum was a brilliant schoolteacher and assistant headteacher.
She was very strict but fair.
If he’s anything like her then discipline and structure won’t be an issue.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jan 2021 06:58:35
He slagged us off when they signed Sinclar, saying something along the lines of Celtic only won titles/ cups cause there was no Rangers. Not the sort of thing any Fan would say. doesn't mean he wouldn't be a good manager though. I'm not keen on those who bad mouth us, shows lack of respect and knowledge - as he was wrong.

@ Buzz Bomb, do you still think that Soro was a waste of money?

No I was wrong, he’s a great wee player who will only get better.
I wasn’t too happy with our 2 project signings last January and up until December I didn’t think that either Soro or Klimala would ever start 3 games in a row for Celtic.
I was wrong because Soro has now started at least 3 games in a row for Celtic.
When Celtic allowed Soro to go and get married half way through this season, I felt my original thoughts were justified.
It just goes to show a good woman can bring out the best in a man. 😂.

Up until 6 week ago who didn’t think he was a waste of money?

28 Jan 2021 22:02:04
I think the problem was that if he did play, it had to be in place of Broonie and Lennon wasn’t willing to make that change.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jan 2021 22:16:45
There's a good few 'what ifs' out there this season. I'm still hopeful, more so recently, that Shved will come back and do something for us. Bayo isn't ever happening. 2 out of 3 wouldn't be bsd.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2021 22:37:37
Something or someone produced some drastic changes in the manager and his selections - unfortunately after most of the damage was done.
The introduction of Soro and Turnbull instead of Brown and Ntcham, the decision to play 2 up front and moving Ajer to his best position certainly had some positive impact and if we had assembled a better defensive unit and goalkeeper and stuck with it - who knows?
Whether NL was too stubborn and loyal to certain players, or he was influenced by PL as to who was 'in the shop window' I don't know.
However, when you add this to all the CV related issues that have penalized and hindered us it's a huge factor in the season so far.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jan 2021 22:57:42
We won't need any more signings, Shved, Bayo, Bolingoli and Henry will all come back, and the team and dressing room will be transformed, Brown will become manager and Lennon will be DOF, and Ronny will be head chef.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jan 2021 07:04:46
Were still not playing that great OaB. Draw and against Livi and 2-0 home against Hamilton is hardly inspiring. With our squad and talent we should be doing way better than that. Even our top players (CalMac, Eddy) have gone backwards. Frimpong looked great for his first half dozen games then regressed. Yes opposition teams figured him out but that's where a good manger comes in to coach, I. e instead of running and running pass and move etc. Didn't see any of that with him and feel our coaching is below what is required.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jan 2021 07:13:52
Friends, if you are placing your hopes of wrestling control back from Rangers on the likes of Soro and Turnball then this makes Lorenzo very happy. It probably makes the likes of Hibs and Livingston happy too friends.

Orange juice all round friends 🍊.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jan 2021 08:41:30
We are still Colin nish. Not convinced by this diamond. Will maybe work against them to win the midfield but the space is out wide in most games and our full backs aren't good enough to supply the assists. Agree Soro and Turnbull look good but maybe need to work on different formations to make us less predictable.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2021 19:50:19
With an extensive rebuild ahead, what direction and style of play would you like going forward? What type of players or who would you like us to sign? Should we be looking at young up and coming players and take the chance of us not winning the league next year? Or should we be looking at seasoned players with youth or stop gap players.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jan 2021 20:57:16
Why do we have to build a team with a certain style and forfeit the chance of winning the league next season? Decent recruitment, good coaching and a plan B and we won't be far away. They might equal our invincible record but they are no where near as good a team as the invincibles.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2021 21:05:37
Think we are potentially losing too many key players, so it’s probably better to have a formation and style of play so that the right players are identified. It’s prob partly why we are in this position. I just said it could be at the risk of not winning immediately. I think we could be a long way off if we recruit like we have been.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2021 21:28:41
I agree that if our recruitment goes the same way then it might be a barren few years but I don't think many players that will leave will be too hard to replace. if we get decent money. It's definitely all about the manager and coaches. BR added 2 players of note and improved every one else no end.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2021 22:12:06
I'd like us to sign a target man. Not for the style of play week in week out but so we have an alternative playing on these slow plastic pitches and when the teams flow is struggling.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2021 23:41:17
Stop passing the ball around at the back, I remember last season and I think ajer had more touches in the game than anyother player.

Ed been seeing a lot of people on here saying about remarks or comments by young Frimpong, what was said?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I'm not really sure, something about his demands not being met apparently.}

28 Jan 2021 17:30:36
Young players even making demands is a new concept on me and I can't get my head around it. They don't seem to appreciate the opportunities and privileges they are given compared to millions of other youngsters who less fortunate and probably more deserving?
Gone are the days of the 'young-team' cleaning the boots and sweeping up the terracing at Celtic Park hoping to catch a break for the honour to wear The Hoops. Ah well he wasn't here long enough to be missed and I wonder what demands he will have for the German manager?

I remember the old Harry Rednap story of him being stopped by a “”Young Kid “wearing a 50grand Rolex and a chain of gold that he couldn’t say how much it was worth, on the stairs inside white hart lane. The Kid said “ I believe you are not giving me the attention or the opportunity in the first team that I deserve” Harry said “ Who are you Son”.

I thought we had signed Davis from Preston. butvwe haven't and now Bournemouth have entered to sign him. typical transfer window for us who is going to arrive with lennon in charge.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Bournemouth have always been interested in Davies and if he does sign for us will you say he's signed because he wants to work under Lennon?}

28 Jan 2021 19:43:10
Cheers Ed, ridiculous if true, yeah he has fantastic potential but needs to remember his place and his age and that he's still a good bit away from being close to the finished article. Well good luck to the lad.

Onceabhoy completely agree with what you said at the end with regards to wearing the mighty hoops. id cut off my right arm to for the privilege to pull that jersey on and run out in front of those fans, some who wear it will never understand!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - As I said on another thread about young players, they want too much too soon and get ideas above their station as soon as they've got a few quid in their pocket with far too many of them not willing to put in the graft needed to become a top player.
Look at Larsson, Ronaldo (CR7), your Cantonas and Zidanes, even the original pop star footballer David Beckham spent hours on the training ground after training to hone their skills. Youngsters should be training with the intensity we've seen from the likes of Brown & KT with the attitude that "I might never have the technical ability of Ronaldo but there's no reason why I can't strive to be as fit as him." That's a good base to start your career from imo take on that responsibility for themselves instead of doing the bare minimum that the Club set.
I don't want Roy Keane 💚Peace be upon him💚 near the Celtic manager's job but I sure wouldn't mind him being a coach with a modern technically astute manager.}

28 Jan 2021 19:51:25
do you think we will get deal done ed007 seems like a good player and one we should not miss out on.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It'll be down to the player mate. Contrary to popular belief not every failed transfer is the fault of Lawwell, Lennon or the new lighting system.}

28 Jan 2021 19:50:20
Ed did his buddy the other Ben not move from PNE to Bournemouth? If so that could be a factor and maybe Neil isn’t totally to blame for the economic crash, current health crisis and climate change?

Beckham is massively underrated by a lot of people because of his marriage and the magazine shoots etc. but you don't have the career he had unless you're a World class player and have put in an awful lot of graft. If Frimpong put in a tenth of the time on crossing that Beckham did on free kicks then he'd be fantastic.

I don't know if it's the no 14 on his back but Turnbull really reminds me of Lambert. I'm loving the vision and arrogant skill from him. The scoop flicks forward and keepie uppies controlling the ball on the sidelines. He's always seems to have time. Absolute fantastic player, frightening to think how good he can become.

I read an interesting article about the Celtic 3rd kit from 1994/ 95 season when we played at Hampden.
It had a green, white and gold design with green shorts and green socks.
Most older fans will remember the first time Celtic wore the strip against Aberdeen in a live televised Sunday match at Hampden in which Celtic won 2-0.
The article mentioned Celtic never wore it in a competitive away match.
Celtic wore the strip once in a friendly when touring Germany in the summer of '95.
After that Aberdeen game, Celtic wore it a further 3 home games before the end of the season.
And we last wore it at the new Celtic Park in a league cup game against Raith Rovers.

Morning Friends, Hope all are staying safe! Just a question for ED and maybe other posters on here. What the **** is up with most youth players these days? Frimpong blethering nonsense about stuff he was guaranteed or some nonsense and Karamoko Dembele demanding to leave the club etc due to the club hindering his development? Is there any respect in the ranks at football club these days? I don't like to talk about it but back when i was a Dundee youth player and still at school it was one of my jobs to help clean the boots and also help out in the stadium etc. Why was all this stopped? I never made it as a Pro but went onto have a steady Junior career but i have also went on to have a successful Plumbing and Heating Business and i honestly feel the apprenticeship i had as a youth set me up to achieve what i have. BTW Georgi Nemsadze was the best for tips on the boot cleaning haha! And how he ended up at Dundee i will never no! What a player he was to watch! I'm just curious at what others feel about how youth football has changed and imo its for the worse cause to can't say or do anything these days without it being harsh or bullying or discrimination or some sort of bloody nonsense. HH.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Hi Mikey, nice to hear from you and I hope everything's going OK for you and your family 🙏 It's certainly changed days and there's no way managers like Stein or McNeill would be allowed to run things the way they did, Brian Clough punched a young Roy Keane in the face after a game for passing the ball back to the 'keeper.
I think it all just comes down to money and youngsters wanting too much too soon and aren't prepared to do the hard work that's needed to be a top player - every young player should be training with the intensity of your Scott Browns and KTs and carry that on throughout their career.}

28 Jan 2021 14:07:40
I was looking forward to seeing young Harper against Hibs but he had a poor game.
It could’ve been nerves.
Also going down with cramp after 58 minutes was maybe a wake up call to these youngsters about the difference and what’s needed between youth and professional football standards.
Our fans had been looking forward to seeing young Dembele playing for Celtic on a regular basis for years and that’s also not worked out for whatever reason because if there was one position up for grabs this season, it was wide on the right.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I said months ago that Dembele wasn't happy and would leave this coming summer.}

28 Jan 2021 14:35:44
What sort of level do you reckon Dembele will end up at if he leaves? His stock can't be as high as it was a few years back.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - He'll have no shortage of offers but he will need to mature and change his attitude if he is going to reach a high level in his career.}

28 Jan 2021 14:48:58
I’ve seen nothing in wee dembele that says he’s going to make it. Skill is only part of the game and while he has it in spades he lacks a whole lot more. His attitude is wrong, work rate is terrible and although it’s not the be all and end all his physicality is non existent.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Jan 2021 14:59:42
Do we know what Frimpongs demands that haven't been met are? I hope young Dembele waits to speak our new manager before deciding on his next move but being free to talk to clubs in February it will be unlikely.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2021 15:15:08
If dembelle and Harper go that's about 6 young players tgat fancy progressing elsewhere . That's a worry.

Agree2 Disagree0

28 Jan 2021 16:50:14
I thought the development squad had only played a few games this season due to C.V.? Is that maybe why Harper was blowing up after 60 mins and why Dembele wants away for regular game time? Why we don't loan these guys out to prem teams is beyond me. Worked wonders for Christie and Ajer.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - With regards to Dembele you can't loan out players that are under 18.}

28 Jan 2021 18:18:11
Really Ed? Seems a bit daft.

{Ed007's Note - That's the rules mate.}

28 Jan 2021 12:53:27
My friends Enrico think very good performance from Soro last night. Good passes strong in the tackle and full of energy. Only one fault I see sometime he hang on to the ball too long before releasing it for the pass.

Enrico also like to see Taylor taking his man on last night and defending well too.

Like you say Ed team should be built around Turnbull McGregor Soro next season. Young Taylor Enrico feels will play a part at left back going forward next season.

Enrico still thinks once a run of games and match fitness comes for Ajeti he will come good.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - More and more people are starting to see that Taylor is a good solid LB.}

28 Jan 2021 13:03:27
Ed I’ve watched him from day one and thought he just needed time to grow into the jersey and have never understood the criticism.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - 👍

28 Jan 2021 13:18:55
Taylor has learned a few tricks and playing better he's coming inside now he's not so predictable. He been training and practising harder maybe laxault has helped push him to be better. He had a few gd crosses as well. Soro great player love how he just goes through the middle he created a gd few chances for our forward who fluffed them.
Lads I don't want to be picky here on Turnbull but that a few weeks now he falls out of the game 20 mins before the end. If he's not up for the 90 mins yet imagine when he does he's going to get better and better.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jan 2021 13:19:23

Hi Ed. Can we expect more departures from the first team during this transfer window. And what your take on frimpong say before he left that his dreams and demands haven't been met. What demands do you think he is on about. Did frimpong feel he was unable to progress under Lennon and his backroom staff.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I expected Elhamed to leave but Be'er Sheva are under a FIFA investigation which might be hindering that and I thought Ntcham would have been
away but maybe the CV situation put the kybosh on that.
I didn't know Frimpong said that, who the Hell does he think he is to make any demands at a Club like Celtic? 18 months ago he was playing for Man City's youth team ffs, he can take his demands and shove them. Baw-heided wee tadger 😁

Any talk about Var coming to Scotland because how many times has Morelas gotten away with this. The plenty decision for and against sevco are scandalous. This will cut out the corrupt referees in Scotland.

I say Scotland is just one of few in professional football not to have var. Not just plenties but for players health as tackles on our players by other teams is ridiculous . I'd be in favour for var, but think Scotland is way behind in professional football.

Mally when asked about it Clancy said it looked like a tangle of legs, with that and the stonewall penalty both of which he had a clear view of you can’t help but think he’s been told by his bosses what’s expected of him in his first sevco game for 5/ 6 months for not taking action against Porteous for a foul on Morelos .

Moyes? Contract up in the summer and has done a cracking job at W Ham. No fee so wages only which might not be as high as you think as he was out of work and offered short term deal. Big upgrade on NL imo.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Moyes current contract automatically extends by 12 months if West Ham stay in the Pub League but the owners will offer him an improved long-term deal in the summer, maybe even before that.}

28 Jan 2021 12:42:10
A season or two ago that suggestion would have got pelters.

I was one of the people on here saying that I didn’t want Moyes when we were looking last time but I didn’t see Lennon getting the job on a permanent basis. As you said before Ed, at least he would have sorted out the defence and i think that we would still be in the running for the 10 if he was here even with the setbacks that we have had.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - And we wouldn't have lost silly games in CL qualifiers.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - It looks like there were some complications with Forrest healing after his op. Lennon said in November after Forrest had his op that the best case scenario was he'd be out for 6 to 8 weeks but it could be longer.}

28 Jan 2021 11:56:12
might be lucky to recoup the £7m we spent on him?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Ach we should recoup our money from a team in France or the Pub League.}

28 Jan 2021 12:10:43
ed007 do you not think there's a chance we could keep Julien or is he another one of these players a good season then thinks he is to good for us.

{Ed007's Note - He wanted to leave last summer and was very vocal about it. The fans directed their ire at Ajer who had done nothing wrong while others got away with bringing their negativity to the squad. Let's face it, Jullien's a bit of a wet wipe and can't handle the physical side of the Scottish game - I'm still not convinced with the "back injury" he had earlier in the season.}

Frimpong away el Hamed prob away, Duffy away Julien and ajer probs away, Laxalt away. practically a whole new back line needed in the summer. striker to replace Edouard and wingers needed. its rebuild and a half bhoys.

{Ed007's Note - 👍

Is there more to that Jullien prediction than just footballing matters Ed?

{Ed007's Note - What do you mean, Kev?}

agree ed. you can see big ajar passion on the field he has been here since Ronny Delia and still not kicked up a fuss to leave. i would rather keep ajar than Julien. do you think we could talk ajar into staying for another season and extending his contract i think he could be our problem to right back

our biggest mistake in the summer was no letting a few of the moaners leave. once they leave and on there big bucks in the pub league or were ever they go they will care nothing about or club and what has been lost this season.

{Ed007's Note - I'd like to think the Club have at least asked players about extending their contracts, even Edouard simply because if you don't ask you'll never know.
Maybe if we get a "box-office" manager in & show some intent in the transfer market some of them might fancy it. Ajer is only coming up on 23 so another year up here might not be too bad a choice for him, he's been in Scotland for 5 years now and I'd guess his girlfriend will be Scottish so he's settled in his private life.}

Any rumoured names anyone hearing about other than the usual? ED007 again on celtic tv this time Lennon claiming they are after players he said that they were far down the line with a couple could that be they are at a stage where offers are close to being offered. Cause i would like for one day soon celtic announce a player or two as uickly as the Frrimpong deal was reported instead of Celtic making a bid for .

I was wondering whether he had been making noises that he wanted to move on but you've since provided a bit of the background. I never knew any of that and am quite surprised. I do remember rumours that he was exaggerating his back injury which the club were not best pleased about. Disappointing tbh.

{Ed007's Note - I think he underestimated the Scottish game, he definitely doesn't like playing against big physical strikers.}
