Have I missed something here, sitting watching Sportscene in the middle of the programme they have just shown Oldco beating Juventus 37 years ago! Bizzare

That's very unfair rubbing it into the current Govan team's supporters just what level they could be playing at if , the 1872 club hadn't cheated and cheated all round before they died .

Where did the £40 mill go? It's accounted for in the Profit and loss account? Just go look it's all there? This is not Sevco. No money is disappearing from our club. You may not like what we do with it but to incinerate that it has somehow "disappeared" is nonesense. The accounts for last year are on the internet go and have a look. Also have a look at how much money DD takes out the club and then consider that he is taking £25 k a year as salary for directors fees then a dividend for his shares exactly the same as every other shareholder. So let's get real about what we do with our income instead of trying make an issue out of nothing!

'incinerate' LOL. Classic malapropism / Freudian slip.

Was that a wee Freudian slip Johnny - maybe the money does get incinerated! Incinerated aka getting spent on Bangura, Pukki, Lassad, Balde!

JohnnyMac I don't think (hope anyway)that Angel is implying fraud but just pointing out that the money taken in by the sale of those players has not been used to replace the quality.
If I am wrong then only an idiot would suggest otherwise as the clubs books are open and transparent AND AUDITED which is more than can be said about a former Glasgow club, UEFA or FIFA

Thanks Tiny and apologies to Johnny if I riled you, I never meant to infer fraud or misdoings simply investment in the team!

Sorry for the incinerated instead of insinuating. Auto correct gone mad. The point is this. Last year ending to June 2015 we posted a loss of £3.9 mill. Next year expect a loss of circa £7 mill. So thepney we bring in for transfers goes into running the club. Money lost on Baldi, Pukki etc does not help. That is why we need CL qualification and there are no excuses for not qualifying. Yes we may have received £40 mill in transfer income over the last few years but last year we made a net gain of £6.8 on transfers after we take out transfers that went wrong. So we can shout for more investment from DD and it's not going to happen because we can't repay him. How does he get his money back when we are losing money? We need to get CL and Ronnie has failed to deliver. After the limited success he has had fo you think he should have more money made available to him? Would you put in money you are not going to get back? RD is not investable in. He has brought in 14 players so far. We are at best average so how much do you think anyone is going to give him when we are not progressing? He needs to start generating some income.

Desmond and O Brien have the best crossing their Ts and dotting their Is for them.Cost more than the average dozen tea ladies houses I'd say.

And there's no way Deila has brought in those players. It's an absolute certainty he's been told to bring in young Scottish players. You're naive if you think he's got that much power! You also said they don't trust him to spend any money, - who did they trust to bring in one appalling striker after another over the last 5 years? It certainly wasn't Deila!

Delphic, I'm sure when RD arrived, he said he would be signing Scottish players, and wanted a mostly Scottish based team.

Well posted Johnnymac . It appears some people think that buying players is the same as buying a bar of chocolate, satisfaction is guaranteed . I think and I hope no player has been purchase to be a dud . Some players have come to Celtic and worked exceptionally hard and have become stars. Others have worked reasonably well and have done ok . Others have idled around , put as little effort as possible into training and have become useless for us and difficult to move on .
This happens at most if not all clubs, including clubs who spend 20 times as much as we do in transfer windows .

We all know that every signing is a gamble - unlike a nice bar of Dairymilk(straight from the fridge) the secret is getting more right than wrong! At the moment we aren't doing that. Watching Bangura and Balde on YouTube before they signed filled me with dread, so God knows what the scouts saw. Of course there are bargains out there, but you are looking for every signing to be one you end up too many average/poor players in the squad that you can't move on, and who are picking up fortunes in wages. You also have all the agents fees. No one is saying that whoever is buying the players is some sort of sadist trying to ruin the club, what we are saying is they are in the wrong job, and don't have an eye for a player. I already mentioned Davie Moyes. Whatever you think about Derek McInnes, he has spent the very little he has had well. I think to get Shinnie and McLean for £250k was quite shrewd. Supposedly John Park has this database with players from all over the world, I remember Mowbray talking about it when he left, Strachan has also touched on it. There is no doubt he has a say, no one knows how much say, but he does see himself more as s director of football. As far as I'm aware suggestions are made to Ronny and he has some say, but he isn't allowed to just go and buy who he wants. If he was to suggest someone, then Park and the other scouts would do homework/get him watched etc etc, and on the face of it that's fine, most European clubs work this way, it's simply that we are bringing in too many players, and too much mediocrity. The squad is too big, and wages wasted. It's almost common knowledge that after Balde/Pukki etc that there was going to be more emphasis put on bringing in more homegrown players. I got told this before Deila arrived. They specifically brought back Willie McStay to oversee scouting from roughly the 18-21 age range. He has good contacts in England and especially Ireland, and there is a good few young Irish lads I know they have been/are looking at. So Ronny has been told all this, it had already been decided, so he could hardly come out and say anything other than he would ideally like more Scottish talent. It's also good PR.

Delphic , I would hate to think that the scouting system employed by Celtic has been cut back to watching op players on U Tube . To talk about at the moment we are not getting our recruitment right and then mention Balde and Bangura is a bit strange to me . Neither are recent recruits but are recruits who have been signed and who have turned out to not do the Job required . I regard recent recruits as Cliftci and the big Croatian centre half Boyata and Janko etc the players bought in this summer . We won't know for sure until this time next year whether they have been successful or not I think some that show good qualities early on can fall away and on the other hand some can develop slower with us and become very good .

Hi OldBhoy, - I only mentioned these guys because John Park has been running the scouting system during that period. The striking position is the most worrying - we have had Bangura, Lassad, Pukki, Miku, Balde, then the latest 2, Scepovic and Cifti, I'd love nothing more than for him to turn out to be a star, but as for Scepovic, I don't think he wanted to be here in the first place, he was desperate to stay in Spain but the other team pulled out. His record alone would have put me off, - he had played for about 10 clubs at 24 years old, that's not normal. If you put all the transfer/agent fees and salaries together, - we even had to pay up Balde/Bangura's contracts, that must be about £20 million wasted. It's paramount we sort it out, clubs like Ajax and PSV, who are good examples for us, - they both have a great history, big fan base etc etc, but play in a poor league with no tv money, they don't carry on like is. The infrastructure, scouting, youth development is all world class. If we are going to operate with a director of football/the equivalent then I'd prefer someone with a real experience/real success. Liverpool are having the same arguments/problems down there also, last year they decided that Brendan Rodgers wasn't going to be signing players anymore, it was a committee instead. I don't think it's went down too well, I don't think the fans even know who the committee is. There's even a piece today about Jurgen Klopp, supposedly he's been asked if he would be interested in the job, of course he has said - only if this committee is removed. I think we have something similar, with Park, and possibly Lawwell involved, I know the manager doesn't have full say though. Like you said - hopefully the latest signings turn out to be good though. One final thing, I think it's ironic that we have this huge/average squad, have wasted fortunes recently on strikers, yet we only have Griffiths and Cifti to choose from, we all know Stokes isn't in the picture. So someone has to take the blame for that, we shouldn't have to be looking for free agents, who can't even play in Europe, we should have had another striker months ago, not looking for one on deadline day. Cheers
