Hi everyone been a couple of years since I last posted under (Killy) have had a few health problems spot on now. I read the posts from fans daily, I just wanted to post regarding Sunday's game and the ongoing was it a penalty and red card. My son in law who is a grade 1 UEFA official who has covered World Cup and European champions qualifiers, champions league and europa league as well as domestic games explained to me why it was a penalty and red card. The defender made no attempt to clear the ball instead impeded the attacker regardless of how minimum the contact was and under the new law introduced this season penalty and red card were correct if I may add my son in law is not Celtic minded. Hope I haven't bored you.

Law is the law but not always common sense. The contact was minimal and the penalty was awarded. I think most of us agree a yellow card would have been fair and sensible. However, I also think the player concerned should not have been on the park after the tackle a few minutes earlier so justice was actually done.
On the penalty/ red card, if that is the law then so be it.
Managers and players need to be forced into attending referee/ rules of the game and consequence classes which should include an exam at the end.

Oldkilly there was no need to let us know your son in law was not Celtic minded as the SFA and UEFA (Shug Dallas) doesn't allow Celtic minded people to make it that far as a ref XD on the subject of yesterday do we know if any retrospective action will be taken on the player for the challenge on Dembele as he received no punishment on the field for it?

Good post mate. When descisions go against celtic the media bring out ex referees to say why the ref got it right. Won't see any ex refs explaining the pen on Sunday because they will say just what your son in law said. Ps sorry to hear about your health problems good to hear your on the mend.

Many questions about the awarding of the penalty and the sending off have been answered in the cold light of day . The Motherwell Manager was full of venom on Sunday and very angry that Celtic got Penalty and his player sent off . The MSSM were aghast at the thought Craig Thompson had dirtied his copy book and destroyed his reputation .
Our usual quota of knicker wetters who seem to have to either side with referee or destroy the reputation of a Celtic player or two jumped on the wagon and many disowned Sinclair for diving . Compliance officer didn't see any dive and M'well club now with time to reflect see he didn't dive .
Thing is not long since Sinclair has been racially abused and no doubt the stupid stuff posted by some, will renew attacks on SS.

This is part of law 12 in rules of the game.

Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offending player is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball; in all other circumstances (e. g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc. ) the offending player must be sent off.

So you need to ask was Sinclair pulled in the box? If the answer is yes (which he was) , then according to this rule, Thompson got it right.

30 Nov 2017 11:54:38
Sinclair himself said, he felt a contact and went down, or some words to that effect, well is it not easy enough to check to see if he dived or not, by going onto YouTube and watching the replay, and watching Sinclair's feet and watching the way his stride changes, and then deciding if Kipre tugged him hard enough, to disrupt his stride or Sinclair felt the tug and just fell over, another thing because Kipre tugged Sinclair and made no effort to play the ball, it was a sending of offence according to new rule changes, so the red card was correct, if only they were as strict at all the tugging and holding that goes on at corner kicks, it might stop that carry on.

While it is good time to be a tic fan, I would have to agree with those who say we are on the slide a bit. The Bayern game at Celtic Park and the Aberdeen game before that we're great performances but I don't think we've his the heights of last year apart from that. Griff, Forrest and Tierney have been pretty good as has McGregor but Sinclair, Armstrong, Dembele (fair play injury etc) and Rogic have been nowhere near their form of last year. Broony always does his bit and has transformed over past 2 years but I think we have a good few gears to step through. Hoping we land Europa League football to give us a test and recruit well in the window. Think it's obvious what is needed, would be scandalous to come out in Feb without at least on decent Centre Half.

On the slide?
We still haven't lost a game and we have IMPROVED in Europe.

I know we’re unbeaten and it’s an amazing achievement. Just felt we were a lot more free flowing with the movement and obviously more spark with Moose and Simky. In Europe I thought Anderlecht made us look good a lot of the game. Happy for our run but think we aren’t as good as last year.

28 Nov 2017 07:59:43
Daviebhoy you are correct. We are still doing great so no complaints but as you say there are 4 players not performing as well as last year. Roberts. Dembele. Sinclair. Armstrong. However Tierney, Forrest, mcGregor, have improved but i wonder if the 65 game unbeaten run is weighing heavy. We are slower getting the ball forward and not pressing in numbers as we used to so maybe its that unbeaten run but i agree not as fluent as last season.

28 Nov 2017 07:59:12
Wouldn’t say on the slide but I do agree with davie about not playing as well this season! Sinclair Armstrong and Moussa to a lesser degree because of his injuries are nowhere near the standards of last season, same goes for Wee paddy who has still to find top form! And I can’t agree we’ve improved in Europe kev! Just so happens that Anderlecht are a far poorer team than gladbach last year! Last year we conceded 9 against the top seeds this years its 12,last year we drew home and away with the 2nd seeds this year we’ve been beaten home and away! Can’t see where the improvement is there mate! The lads have been relentless in domestic football but like I said I don’t know how u can say we’ve improved in Europe.

The teams we played in Europe this year were better and we look like progressing to be playing Europa league after Xmas. That's improvement is it not?

28 Nov 2017 18:04:50
Honesty to continue unbeaten domestically with the number of fixtures and frequency of difficult games we cannot complain . The fact we managed this last season and with the month of December particularly busy we should all be given the manager and full team our total support . Last season was phenomenal and so can this, if we all play our part.

28 Nov 2017 20:46:29
Anderlecht were better than gladbach kwaj? I was at the home game and they played us off the park! I’m just saying for me we had better results last year! Draws home and away to Man City and away to a good gladbach team. IMO we haven’t improved from last year. the humping against Barcelona in our first game in CL was a sore one but considering Brendan was trying to get the team to gel I could maybe accept it, and that’s a big maybe lol. but a year on with a much more settled squad we’ve took 2 absolute spankings to PSG! So for me there’s been no improvement.

We need a defence and a keeper or being ragdolled by the better teams will continue.

I don't think we have hit top for apart from the Dons game and although played well against Bayern, our rubbish defence at this level cost us.

Sort that at last and we are moving forward. Gladback would have horsed Anderlect. I have no doubt though we will make it difficult in the last game by being rubbish defensively yet again and scraping through.

The defence and our keeper are rubbish at Euro keel and if we have serious intent to be a CL club they need replaced it should have happened before now. Let's hope we can beat Anderlecht. I don't trust our defence in Europe, at that level they are piss poor.

It’s a shame but not unsurprising that the media have not even mentioned the tackle/ assault by the Motherwell player prior to him being sent off.

Feck them. Game over. Trophy at Celtic Park end of. The Huns have still got their financially doped trophies in their cabinet (cheating bams) and not a word said. I'm getting bored now with this pish. Bottom line 4 trophies in a row and 65 games unbeaten domestically. Lucky aye (right) . ☘️.

JFP, had a look at that CATB video. Really Enjoyed it. Thanks. I have to say all the posts relating to my day were so enjoyable to read. Took me back to my 1st memories of watching celtic at firhill with my old uncle Peter, 1st final 85 (aged 9) with my dad and bro. Love St 86 again with my dad and bro, jumping the trackside wall as not to get crushed as the goals went in. My bro took his boy yesterday too. 2 if us sitting on the supporters bus with bald nappers admiring our 2 steeped in celtic sons in the seats in front. Happy days.

Ignore all the hysterical nonsense fuelled By MSSM who encouraged the Motherwell manager to make a fool of himself on Sunday . With mature reflections he realised his player deserved the red and hence Sinclair hadnt dived and Thompson had for once got the decision right.

Interesting.

"The average salary for a first-team player at PSG is £6.5m. Celtic's average pay is £735,040 per year."

so they individually get paid 8.8 x more than a celtic player.

And Celtic players get paid nearly 15 x more than Motherwell players.

{Ed007's Note - I was reading something the other day saying the EPL pays the highest aversge wage in Europe of just under £51k a week. Which is surprising considering the money down there but if you think about the amount of wee diddy Championship level teams are in the league it makes sense.}

28 Nov 2017 07:53:53
Digibanger its never as simple as that. You need to look behind the headline numbers. For example Look at how many players each team has on its books. So a man city average may be £2mill a year per player but they have 80 players out on loan on maybe £20k a week but first team players are earning £150k a week average maybe even more.

Its the 80 fringe playes who bring the average down. So when Celtic played PSG if you look at the wages of their squad for that game the difference in wages would be even more, probably 20 times more than our squad. There are players there on £300k plus a week whereas that would cover our entire CL squad for a week so you can look at the numbers many ways.

Yes we are paying double the amount Sevco pay but last season the points difference was 38 points. Consider this. Man city had turnover of £400mill. Made £1mill profit. Celtic made £7mill approx profit. Aberdeen made over £500k. Hearts made over £2mill. Hearts made more than Man City think about that. So Celtic, aberdeen, hearts and almost all of spl are making money.

Premier league leaders man city don't care about making any money because of their backers. Neither do PSG who are owned by Quatar. So we need to cut our cloth and if we pay more than anyone else in SPL then that's fine because we earn it. No one gives it to us.

I'm proud of that so when the english tell us our results mean nothing then remember they get £170 million for winning the league plus unlimited money from their owners and still can't make a profit. Celtic are doing it right.

4 Trophies on the bounce, the double treble is on and the unbeaten run continues. To top it off we have 3 of our own McGregor Forrest and Tierney regularly playing and winning Trophies.

It's great being a Tim right now Stan. Long may it continue. It's just such a shame seeing the heartbreak of the SMSM and most pundits too. At least they get get to console themselves fawning over a future royal wedding. Shame though as it involves no actual royals.

{Ed007's Note - I know mate and even though the amount is absolutely fantastic it's a bit disappointing that all of it came from only 34 people and mostly from on here.}

I'm certainly not complaining, I am chuffed to bits.
The Motherwell player who was sent off shouldn't have been on the pitch for as long as he was, his tackle on Dembele was shocking. I haven't heard Motherwell's manager getting on his high horse over that decision.
I thought we deserved our win yesterday, Motherwell made it awkward for us at times. but I always felt we would open them up eventually, it was always just a question of when and not if.
I will never tire of us winning trophies, if it's bad for Scottish football then I hope it remains in a state for many years to come.
