Used to go to the Reserves and Youth games back in the early to mid 80s and thinking back to those times just how good some of the youngsters were coming through. Started off with Charlie Nic and Danny Crainie. Went to see Celtic v Kokkola and Roy Aitken was 16 yrs of age playing. There was also Derek Whyte, Stuart Balmer, Davie Elliot (best player I've seen at that level) , Lex Baillie, Stevie Kean (Blackburn manager) , Sandy Fraser and Dougie McGuire, Dugald McCarrison and stopped going when Gerry Britton was coming through. The guys were terrific but how many actually made it? Unlike now when Academy Players such as Gump, Calmac, KT, MJ. Coming through are the likes of Ewan Henderson, Karamoko and a host of others like Scott Robertson and Kerr McInroy. Clearly a lot of things are right behind the scenes and youngsters being played. The futures bright, the future's GREEN AND WHITE.

{Ed007's Note - JP McBride should have went to the top of the game but he was led astray by dark forces in Fairhill...

27 Mar 2020 21:55:51
What actually happened to JP ED? Went to the same school as me, was a couple of years above me but remember him coming through and he was a talent! Last I heard he got done for drugs. shame to see talent like that go to waste!

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - You went to Holy Cross, Danny? Me too mate and I'm good friends with all the branches of McBrides lol JP just couldn't commit to the life of being a pro when he was a kid.}

27 Mar 2020 22:02:16
Yeah, I see what you mean Ed. Wasn't aware of that.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - 👍

27 Mar 2020 22:46:06
Remember that bhoy coming through looked a good player was he a midfielder ed.

{Ed007's Note - Yeah.}

28 Mar 2020 16:32:51
That's the same story with far to many from Scotland. Boy fae where I grew up few years older than me had world at his feet. Broke into the clyde first team at 16 but just couldn't be a pro. Last time I seen him play my old man was nutmegging him at five a sides.
Seems it was same story with my old man as well. Scouts fae all over watching him. he's 63 and can hardly move because his hip and still head and shoulders above all us.

28 Mar 2020 16:46:53
Aye ED I went to holy cross, a stayed in uddingston when I was younger! My neice and nephew still go to the new holy cross. i was in the same year as Stephen Simmons and kevin Mcbride. shame about JP, boy had talent! Unfortunately it’s Quite a commmon story for a lot of these young lads!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Uddingston eh... *cough* snob *cough 😉 I know Kevin, you must know Robert McBride and Kenny Law as well then?}

28 Mar 2020 21:32:17
I'd rather live in Uddie than Stonehouse. But then again I hear Port Glasgow's worse than Stonehouse. The windae cleaner uses a sander not far from me.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I remember at a works night out back in the day and 2 welders arguing - and nearly fighting - because apparently Stonehouse is a stauncher Protestant stronghold than Larkhall because Stonehouse doesn't have a Chapel in it - loonballs!! And then there's Lesmahagow, The 'Gow!}

29 Mar 2020 00:30:53
I used to stay in Burnbank. had the persons start their marches outside my house with the Gazebo fully erect two doors away from me like a community day. Still stood like the proud mulatto I am with my green and white stripes to get the parade off to a good start. all this and I am agnostic. :)

OH IT'S CRYING TIME TONIGHT

Just watched the BBC documentary on the Lisbon Lions and I was greetin all through it, brought back so many memories about life in Glasgow back then.
11 guys all living within 30 miles of Glasgow became CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE
Did you see the bit about all the wee boys walking down the street with their Celtic scarves all proud as punch. In those days I lived in Kinning Park just down from Ibrox and the area was supposedely true blue, NOT that night all my pals and I and boys I never knew all congregated in Milnpark Street all wearing our Celtic tops and scarves, there were HUNDREDS of us and even the adults men and women came out and we had a big Celtic sing song, Kinning Park had turned GREEN
God Bless Jock Stein and the Lisbon Lions for enriching all our lives

IN THE HEAT OF LISBON!
HAIL HAIL.

A father and son who are Bolton fans called Thogden and Thogdad and they go to football matches all over Europe and video their experiences. They have visited Celtic Park on a number of occasions over the last few years and they have been very complimentary of the Celtic fans. This season they have went to a few Sevco games and have also been very complimentary of the Sevco fans when they visit pubs and ask the fans of their predictions
They are both very neutral and want both clubs to do well.
Recently probably due to boredom they made a couple of videos and they both made a couple of lists of Simply the most Depressing clubs to watch and the clubs with the brightest future in the UK.
The son Thogden made Sevco the 6th most depressing club to watch and he also called them THE Rangers and both father and son put Celtic in their list of clubs with the brightest future.
I knew when I saw the videos that the over sensitive Sevco fans would take offence although my son didn’t see anything wrong with the videos.
Now apparently they are both a couple of weirdos who are no longer welcome in their pubs or anywhere near their stadium.
They should’ve stuck with only the green side of the city because they will always be made welcome in Paradise.

{Ed007's Note - My Mrs is still up at 4 in the morning to go to work in Aldi's - who have given all workers a 10% bonus on hours worked since the 9th of March - and when a guy from her work mentioned it on Facebook someone replied saying "you only work in a shop, nurses are at the frontline fighting to save lives".}

27 Mar 2020 13:57:00
Well done aldis puts the other big stores to shame.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Honestly mate, Aldi are a great company to work for. My Mrs started 5/6 years ago as a general shop assistant and was on better money than she was on as a manageress in Clintons Cards.}

27 Mar 2020 14:17:44
ED007 how lucky are you that Moneypenny gets first dibs as the bread, milk and toilet rolls come in lol
Seriously all the shop staff deserve credit too for turning up and dealing with all the grumpy, greedy so and so, s every day.
Plus a BIG SHOUT OUT to all our great NHS people for their sterling work just now.
Everybody Stay safe, Stay healthy and STAY INDOORS.

But the customers are finally grasping it now keep the head and stop buying stuff for the sake of buying it? A Saturday off. no golf and no Celtic. gutted! Thats a big help from aldi with the extra 10% on your wages. I asked the woman in Sainsbury if they get a bonus and she just laughed. These companys are raking it in, the shelves are emptier now than at christmas.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - The shelves are only empty because of all the morons that are panic buying, the Mrs says there's supposedly plenty of stock in the warehouse but the distribution network can't keep up.}

27 Mar 2020 20:03:46
I work in the coop depot an we are all stepping up to make sure delivers go out to the stores even though 140 of our colleagues have been struck down with this we are all still going. Every retail person and delivery driver still going to here work should be applauded as every person who can work is working as hard as they can not just the nhs. Although my hearts go out to the nhs as they are front line although they have some protective get delivery drivers and retail workers don't have any and are meeting the public on a daily basis so every single person should get a shout out Hail Hail.

I couldn't agree more, the NHS, Voluntary and Charitable care teams and Local Government workets are doing a fantastic job in keeping people safe. Soldiers march on their stomachs; hence why you guys, the Grocer, the Baker, the butchers, the lorry drivers and food shop staff, etc deserve the same appreciation as the rest. Huge respect.

Sounny I really don't understand why companies don't put people like your wife on the forlough scheme or whatever its called. The government wants them to, martin lewis was very clear on that. Tell the mrs to go to head office.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Have a read through THIS, Souny (it was the top Google result, Steph if you have a better link send it in mate) and note where it says:

"That means if someone is self isolating for the next three months an employer has the discretion to put them on furlough. The same is true for someone whose job is available but they can't work because they are at home to look after children."

It definitely can't be right that she's not getting any money.}

28 Mar 2020 14:19:53
Still sending us to work on construction sites if you want to self isolate it’s sick pay only as work is available it’s shocking.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - My 2 nephews are in the same boat, Welshy.}

28 Mar 2020 16:17:45
I work on sites and all the builders we work for have closed, mainly cala homes. I don't know any sites in scotland that are open. Maybe commercial ones.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Mar 2020 19:53:12
I’m in Lancaster at the moment penalty clauses are huge if site runs late so pushed back to subcontractors luckily I can stay in office but my lads are out on site all day with no choice.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It can't be right that you guys are being forced into that kind of situation. So you're expected to go out and do a day's graft then go home and piss about with the self isolation stuff? That's just crazy mate, fingers crossed you're OK, Welshy.}

Stengo that was a time of incredible talent coming through Celtic boys. I played in the same team as Stevie Kean. Used to stay at his house when I went down at weekends from the Highlands. John Collins was also in that team and was an amazing player then but Tiny so Celtic got rid. I would sometimes train with 16s who were a couple of years older as I travelled down with a 16s player from the Highlands and that team had Grant and Archdeacon etc. and one player who was playing in that team at a year younger because he was so good was Tony Shepherd. The guy stood iyt like a sore thumb. He was brilliant and the talk was he would be the next Macstay who had just broke into the first team at 17. Of all the players I played with and trained with in those days he is the memorable one. Shane he never quite hit the heights expected. Thanks for your post it brought back a lot of good memories.

Just read that the UK is the biggest contributer in the global fight against this pandemic. So much for the mighty USA when a small country like ours is the main contributer hope the UK don't share this with the USA as trump only wants this for his own country.

I watched the highlights of 2 games tonight.
The 1-1 draw at ibrokes when our fans were banned in ‘94 and a 3-1 victory at Rugby Park when Di Canio scored his first goal for Celtic in ‘96.I remember I had a great view of the goals in that superb second half.
The difference in the quality of the Celtic players we had in only 2 years was massive and the Fergus effect started to take shape.
I went to watch our reserves play Rangers at Celtic Park while the first team were playing.
I think there was about 12,000 fans at the game and we won either 3-0 or 3-1 with Chris Hay scoring a hat trick. I was at the back of the jungle with my radio when Collins scored his free kick and the place went mental.
Rangers ended up scoring from a deflection with only 10 minutes to go. That turned out to be Rangers last goal of the season because they played for another 4 games and 6 hours without scoring a single goal and their bottle crashed in the cup final when losing 1-0 to Dundee Utd and their chance of a double treble was gone.

I was at that game. Afterwards was the craziest night ever. Ended up in the old Art School bar and met the Buzzcocks who had been playing round corner at the Garage- we ended up back at their hotel with them (the big one under the Kingston Bridge) where a Sportsman's Dinner was in full swing for Walter Smith. I went in for a pee and Billy Connolly was on one side of me and McCoist on the other. We weren't allowed to buy drinks as it was a residents bar only so Steve Diggle and Pete Shelley had to buy me and my mate drinks all night. Left about 6 in the morning and the contents of Diggle's mini bar fell out of my pockets as we came out of lift at reception. Mental night.

Guys I am going back even further, during our Lisbon season when we won EVERYTHING, we had to play a Glasgow Cup final against the old club, big Jock field mostly a reserves team but that included the "Quality Street Kids" Connelly, Davidson, Macari etc, the old club were desperate for ANY victory over us so fielded almost a full strength team with Greig their captain .
Our young bhoys played them off the park and at half time we were 3-0 going 10-0, they never got a sniff of the ball. We Celtic fans as we do, took the ultimate p! ss out of them by chanting "all we are saying is give the Rangers a CHANCE" the fans then BOOED the Celtic players and CHEERED Greig and co, as is the current's want most had disappeared by this time and when Greig scored a consolation goal the Celtic fans CHEERED, I remember him looking up in bewilderment and all us Celtic fans laughing.
Hail hail.
