Morning ED, what's your gut feeling regarding transfer activity this week? Surely now champions league football has been guaranteed, and the money that's guaranteed to come with it and the cost of the 3 game package ( which a lot of people seem to think is a bit much ) surely there will be maybe 3 or 4 signings made this week. I hear the south African boy won't be joining now. I do understand the need to bring quality in over quantity but but I do think like most we need another centre half, wee Roberts, another striker and fingers crossed another keeper ( although I'm no holding my breath on that one) . Where do you think we're short and could improve and do you think it'll happen. Cheers.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - I'm confident that there will be 2 or 3 additions to the squad this week. I definitely think that a new quality 'keeper would improve us but that's not happening this summer.
I would like a new CB to play beside Simunovic in the CL but I don't think it's as necessary as others make out and I didn't think Coetzee was the answer at that level, he would have been Sviatchenko's replacement as back up.
Roberts signing will excite fans and give us a player that'll get you off your seat, we know what we're getting and he definitely adds a lot to the team, even at CL level.
With only Dembele and Griffiths as recognised strikers we're always one injury away from a crisis, we need to look at either an older Toure type signing or a younger player that would be happy to step up to playing for Celtic knowing that his chances will be limited, Jack Aitchison is just a kid and we can't expect him to lead the line.

27 Aug 2017 12:45:41
ED007 as to the centre half position, surely Brendan must see that Lustig is better there than Biton, we can either play young Ralston at rb or Gamboa.
I agree about Gordon, I was hoping we might have tried to lure Vorm but that looks a non starter.
Again up front, with both Dembele (hamstrings) and Griffiths (calfs) suspect injury wise we need one other forward even just for domestic games to give Moussa and Leigh a break after tiring european games.

Agree2 Disagree2

{Ed007's Note - I wouldn't be surprised if Gamboa moved on before the week's out, Tim and I honestly don't think Bitton is as bad a CB as people make out, not at domestic level anyway. With the emergence of Ralston, I can see Lustig playing a lot more games in the middle and he might finally make the move to CB that he's spoken about doing to help with his hip problems and prolong his career.}

27 Aug 2017 12:46:55
VVD session long loan from Southampton would be a topper we deserve it πŸ˜‡πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š.

Agree0 Disagree2

27 Aug 2017 15:53:04
Well ED here's a prediction 4 days left till deadline closes let's face it today no work on transfers will be done so that's why 4 days this morning you believe 2/ 3 players in I think they may get in 1 if lucky Celtic am sure have been working hard in players in but the line from BR come Thursday if we do hear from him due to international games will be it not just Celtic if both clubs can't come to an agreement then it won't happen and I think that will be the case.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - Have you been rubbing your crystal balls again? You'll go blind you know.}

27 Aug 2017 18:25:35
No need for a cb or a rw or lb . we only have 10 midfielders we need at least 3 more.

Agree0 Disagree1

27 Aug 2017 11:10:00
I understand the point BR was making defending CGs howler as the manager is the man telling the team to play out from the back and trying to turn CG into a sweeper keeper and I also understand his frustrations when fans got anxious when KT gave the ball away and calls for fans to be patient but I thought the 'Do you want to play Scottish football and smash it up the park it hasn't got YOU (not us) anywhere for 20 years' was a tad condescending and bordering on the arrogant and disrespectful. Even if he's right I think it could have been said better as I felt it made BR seem like a bit of a Billy Big Bawz. ☘️.

Believable5 Unbelievable2

27 Aug 2017 11:36:28
You just need to look back on Scottish football for the last twenty years to see what he means,

Agree1 Disagree4

27 Aug 2017 11:48:48
Aindoh my friend as I said I know what he means and I don't disagree with him my point was it could have been put better and in my opinion potentially came across as a bit arrogant. ☘️.

Agree3 Disagree1

27 Aug 2017 12:44:24
Brendan came across badly imo and needs to remember fans get impatient when we play slow and predictable against second rate teams which is what happened yesterday in the first half. If he wants to take responsibility for st Johnstone first goal then it doesn't say much for his coaching as any fan could see it was pathetic defending which we were punished for yesterday but has happened numerous times without being punished in the last year.

Agree3 Disagree1

27 Aug 2017 14:03:50
I appreciate the way BR wants his teams to play, but at home in the SPL, surely we can play with more pace, higher tempo and take the initiative more aggressively without resorting to 'kick and rush'?

Agree0 Disagree1

27 Aug 2017 15:22:23
Bottom line is CG is not the standard of keeper we should have. In europe he will ger ripped apart. At fault fir 2 Astana goals but he also made 3 great saves but under pressure when he has to come and play the ball its not him. So BR says its his choice how they play. Fine play that way but get a keeper who can play that way. As fir Bitton. Domestically will do fine but not a CB for CL and i agree BR did sound a wee bit arragent which is not like him. He knows the problems as well as we do but he is working to a budget and its not a big budget. If he was allowed to go spend Β£20 mill he would so its frustration from him.

Agree0 Disagree1

27 Aug 2017 17:42:03
the lisbon lions didn't play smash the ball up the park football but ronnie simpson knew when the time was right to punt the ball up the park. (from hand in those days as keepers were allowed to pick the ball up)

Agree2 Disagree1

27 Aug 2017 17:48:03
It was a bad day at the office, it happens! Our early season goal was to secure champions league football, we did this, a hangover is normal.
Once a Bhoy, good teams play the same way every game, it doesn't matter whether its a practice match or a cup final, same system, same tempo!

Agree0 Disagree1

28 Aug 2017 09:12:45
Charles67 yeh good teams play the same way/ system/ style of play, whatever people want to call it but this is what Rd tried to install at Celtic and all we heard at games n on here was He needs to play a 442 as we can't play the same way/ formation etc in Europe n spfl yet Brendan is doing the exact same thing getting us to play a certain way regardless of what fans think n people r buying into it, I will back the manager 100% whoever our manager is, not all do.
People have short memories.
As to the game I agree with u bud about bit of a hangover, no excuse though as Brendan could have made more changes, n not as high a tempo, have to say 1st half we created decent chances n didn't take them, our tempo wasn't as high however I always felt we were in control, we had good possession albeit we didn't really get going in the final third but other than our keeper being a bombscare n gifting them a goal n the odd chance they had I felt in control, it's not like they ran over the top of us for 15_20 minutes like astana.
Had an argument with a clown next to me who (must have been in his 60's, more an animated discussion than an argument) asked me my thoughts on the game n I said we were in control (not dominant certainly but not backs to the wall) had good possession n had some decent chances n gifted them a goal through our joke of a keeper. He then asked if I thought I was intelligent, I said neither intelligent or unintelligent but I know football, he then gives it how we were rubbish in the 1st half worse he's ever seen under Brendan, I said you clearly don't remember red imps then which was our most embarrassing European defeat ever, Brendan's first game he replied to which I told him doesn't matter no amateur or pub team should be beating us.
Then he proceeds to say he's never seen Sinclair playing this bad I said r u joking he's not been great since the season started, nowhere near the form of last season, defensively he has been doing his job but he's definitely not hit last season's form yet. He then said well your clearly not intelligent n asks did I go to university, I'm like nope, he says well I did n I was taught off a very intelligent lecturer, I'm like fantastic all that education n they forgot to teach u manners. That shut him up. I proceeded to say whatever university u went to, had nothing to do with knowing football.
After he went silent I said what's up u can't take it but you can give it n he's like just watch the game n I was like oh look he can't take it when someone answers him back. Just for the record I don't get into arguments with anybody, the guy wasn't even sitting in his own seat, I was trying to be nice as he just started talking n I was at the game with my partner n wee boy so it kinda took away from the game. He tried to make a few more comments to wind me up as if he knew better or was more intelligent, mainly that brendan agreed with him as he took 2 players off, yeh well pity the 2 that came on didn't make that much difference as the guy who changed the game was Callum McGregor who came on later as the original changes hadn't worked. This intelligent guys words of wisdom n the stands were, come on, that was it whereas myself I talk players through the game as if I was coaching, I'm vocal when I watch n also sing n give the team backing, just how I am n many on here who played or didn't will be able to see a game, where passes should go, who should be running, when to go sideways, or back n when to be expansive, there we go expansive, look at me mum I'm using intelligent words, I feel so intelligent haha, although apparently I'm not.
Anyway 2nd half went on we upped the tempo n were attacking n playing higher up, although st Johnstone still had chances as we still looked a bit nervy n tired although maybe Brendan should ask why he didn't make more changes to freshen things up n rest tired legs. We got a point, should have got all 3 but we r still invincible n will still win the league at a canter. Still don't think we were awful in the 1st half, thought we were alright n but for the awful Gordon mistake never felt troubled, apart from collum who was woeful the whole match n is just an unintelligent ref. πŸ˜‹
Hail hail.

Guys just wanted to know all your thoughts on the way young Tierney is being targeted by no mark players who cannot handle his professialism and his skill so turn to nasty tactics to stop him. I make that between last season and this half a dozen times players have assaulted (and assault is what it is) him, and even more worryingly referees NOT protecting him.
Young Tierney is one of the nicest guys in our game, so it cannot be because he rubs anyone up the wrong way, is it perhaps they see Kieran as an "easy" target and also know the ref will turn a blind eye?

There was no punch from McLean yesterday Tim if that's what's prompting your post. He pulled his arm away and KT stumbled. Yes he has had a few bad ones Aberdeen and Motherwell spring to mind but the boy just gets on with it.

Agree2 Disagree2

27 Aug 2017 14:06:01
He has been singled out since last season - especially the assault by Stockton in the cup final - and as long as these honest mistake merchants let it go - there will be more of the same and possibly a bad injury for the young yin?

Ed007 I take it Erik won't be going anywhere now if we don't get a CB in.?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - Sviatchenko's agent has or soon will hold talks with Besiktas but the player won't be allowed to leave if a new CB isn't brought in unless he puts in a transfer request and forces the move. He's still disappointed that Celtic blocked the Leicester move in January and he was told he could move this window so I think it's more a wait and see situation.}

Transfer plans revealed months ago
But guarantee the fans
Will still be having a moan, having a moan

Understand your frustration bud but the gaffer told us a couple will be brought in and then a few after qualification, there's still a week left, If BR had told us differently then yeah i can understand the worry and whingeing, so if no one comes in now fair enough whinge away, but i can't see that happening, i expect a few more ins and outs tbh.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Aug 2017 20:19:50
Rogers told us the plan was to get the players bedded in before we started the qualifiers. His words not mine.

We will bring people in but it won't be the first choices obviously. Rivaldo gone now, so where to go with that one. We need a full back as I don't think Ralston is ready yet for CL if he ever will be, which I doubt.

Gamboa might be away and Lustig has been a worry in the last couple of games.

I know I should never thought we wouldn't be flagging about with less than a week left of the CL window.

I don't think that's good enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2017 03:34:43
I am worried that BR is starting to show a lack of respect for Scottish football. He seems to believe tht he can play anyone in any position and we will win.
Yesterday he choose players who had played in a CL and completed a long tiring journey from Kasakstan.
Again we played with a makeshift defence
It was not until the second half when we changed things that new eneregy and speed of passing brought results
I also noted that we again went to a back three as we did in Astana and Rosenberg when things got tough

This might be the way forward for every game. But to do this we need at least one new CB probably two
We could use Lusnig and Teirney wide against CL opposition with Three large CBs behind them Brown and Ntcham in front and the speed and skill of Sinclair/ Hayes Grifiths/ Dembele Forrest/ Roberts up front in 3/ 4/ 3 formation at home in scotland the middle 4 could include
Armstong Macgregor or Rogic with others dropping out.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

27 Aug 2017 06:26:50
I agree with your thinking on the way we could choose to set up. I like the fact we are versatile. BR has spoken about wanting a small squad, and players who can play a number of positions. For having been in a bit of a crisis, we've done well to qualify for the CL proper and in time the league will take care of itself.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Aug 2017 07:16:27
No disrespect at all, boyata, Jozo, Erik not fit so we need to improvise and it's worked yesterday we lacked that wee spark in the first hour. However they only scored because Gordon tried to be clever! We still hit woodwork a few times and on another day we would have won. The panic on here is madness.

Agree6 Disagree0

27 Aug 2017 09:58:44
Totally agree, it's unbelievable to see the panic on here. When we have a fully fit squad there will be no issue in the SPL. However if we don't get a couple of good quality players in the masses will not be happy and rightly so!

Agree2 Disagree0

27 Aug 2017 10:34:06
Thought yesterday our defensive frailties was clear for all to see, button want to play wee daft passes in the box, and spends to much time on the ball, and lustig at times has moments of madness, my opinion is we need to buy a couple of good centre halfs, and get shot of jozo boyata etc as they are too injury prone.
On the other hand st johnstone set up very well and didn't allow us anytime on the ball, and I would play Armstrong before ntcham and mcgregor before Forrest but just views.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Aug 2017 11:00:01
When you have a small squad whether it's versatile or not you are one a couple of injuries or suspension to key players away from a makeshift team which has got to catch up with you eventually, we have got away with it so far but the last 2 games must serve as a warning . Brendan you have 4 days to sort out that defence and get another striker in .
Drewzybhoy.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2017 11:18:40
Was about to say the same Memaself, thought the saints done their homework and closed us down very quickly, yet we still got a draw, not bad for a team with a makeshift defence.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2017 14:13:23
I had a wee gut feeling about yesterday as it has happened to us quite a few times at the same stage of previous seasons. - Long journey - or recovery after a vital CL game and playing a 'form team' who are on a wee run.
Obviously we are still struggling with defensive problems (including cocky Craig) and it took a while to shake things up, but we could have won with a bit more luck.
However at Celtic two games in a row without a win is verging on a crisis, the way we have been spoilt with BR.

Same as a few bhoys on here, reading the site about 5-7 years, not totally sure mind one of my 1st posts was about wanyama early doors n how I felt he would go onto be a top defensive mid, even then had folk disagreeing with that.
Bigshaw has been my first real name on here and while I don't post all the time I read the site religiously n its always first read of the day bar none. Ed007 is a quality ed n I really enjoy reading others views, whether I agree or not it's always good reading.
Timalloy, while we disagreed on Rd, still find your posts great, bigot in a suit amuses me as i know a number of them like that, not all mind but most haha n always enjoy reading a few others green jhedi when he pops by is always good but ed007s skelping of sevconians' is legendary n information wise top notch.
Hail hail.

Hi,

Hardly post at all (haven't done for ages) I have been checking this site for about 7/ 8 years. Ed007 was your previous name Davie08? That was the guy on the original rumours site that had all the best Celtic info from memory.

Bankier Bhoy aka Canadian Pete.

{Ed007's Note - Nah, GJ still posts now and then, I couldn't be arsed with being an Ed AND having another account to post from. That's quite a compliment though so I'll take that. :)
