Evening Ed hope your Well? its been a while I've been busy getting married been checking in every night but not posted in a while.
Can you just Set me straight our number one Striker target now seems to be The lad Pukki but let me get this right if we qualify for the group stages tomorrow he won't be able to play for us as he is cup tied having played for his old team in the qualifing rounds and they have qualified tonight? Seems bizarre to me! {Ed007's Note - Congratulations Gaz, I think that might be our first wedding, we've had a few kids born but no wedding. I'm not sure Pukki is/was the main target but as you say it is a strange one considering Europe. He wouldn't be eligible for the EL group stages either.}

surely lennon cannot play mulgrew left mid or centre mid any longer. the man is like a fish out awater in there and the game passes him by. we need a potent threat in the wide positions with pace, the only position charlie should play if at all is centre half. is it just me or does anyone else fail to see that mulgrew offers absolutely feck all in advanced roles but no matter who lennon has available he always seems to find a starting role for charlie. is he lennys love child?

2moros line-up has to be

forster

lustig - mulgrew - ambrose - izzaguire

matthews - brown - commons - boerrigter

Samaras

stokes

bench- zaluska, van dijk, moyokoulo, forrest, watt, rogic, ledley

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Would play Derk up front with stokes, Sammi left wing, hoping he goes with Mathews and not forest, Forster may be more switched on after call up, not a fan of playing commons up front, doesn't look comfy in there, hoping dek is fit, mulgrew yep at centre half, player of the yr in there, not a midfielder at all,

So based on who's went through so far Celtic are guaranteed Pot 4 if we go through, which means we could end up wi a group like.

Bayern, Atletico, Juve;

Or. Bara, Shakhtar, Man City;

Or. Chelsea, Schalke, Ajax;

Or even. Real, Marseille, Dortmund lol!

HamiltonBhoy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The seeding is a disgrace dortmund beaten finalists in pot 3. We r league champions, reached the last 16 last season and end up in pot 4

GunnieBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Seeding aids those consistantly qualify and consistantly reach latter rounds. Sadly. One hit wonders need to prove themselves over a few years and consistantly reach latter rounds before earning the right to be seeded higher {Ed007's Note - Man $hitty shoots that argument to smithereens somewhat old chap, wouldn't you agree?}

Agree0 Disagree0

The coefficients are based on your last 5 years in Europe - however where Man City benefit is the higher your countries coefficient, the higher the pts you get for a win, draw, etc.

I wonder if all the players we are linked with are stipulating that Champs Lge football will seal the deal.

Thus the reason for new signings being made as yet.

The team tomorrow under no circumstances can have Samaras as the lone striker, its a waste of his talent and of course a tactic that simply has not worked against Aberdeen or against the Sheep Slayers.

Hopefully come the weekend we have new players in and the season can then finally take off, after we get a respectable Champs Lge draw that is.

right lads, here's my team for the morra

forster

ambrose - van dijk - izzy

matthews - brown - ledley - mulgrew - sami

commons

stokes

subs - zaluska - lustig - rogic - balde - watt - mcgeouch - forrest

3-5-2 with commons just in behind the striker. shaktar ain't going to play two up, so there's no need for a flat back four ( matthews can always drop back to RB when needs be, with ambrose going to CB ).

matthews is the key tomorrow I reckon. great engine, and probably the best crosser of a ball we have. i've got a feeling sami could get a few chances ghosting in to the back post if his deliveries are good.

lenny will have them raring to go tomorrow and an early goal would settle the fans right down.

looking forward to it, but shi**ing myself at the same time!

My thoughts about the game tomorrow night is we can't afford to go gungho at this mob as they will be waiting to hit us on the break also some comments on here about us winning 3/4/5 nil who is going to score these goals we need and when was our last clean sheet. I wouldn't put ambrose anywhere near our defence the guy is a liability and has cost us goals on more than one occasion. I hope we can take this game to extra time as I think we will go through then .

Thought NL was very tense and edgy at the press conference and hope this is not transferred to the players. You always get wind-ups and 'lost in translation' comments and questions from foreign managers and journalists and I remember WGS taking the rise out of them plenty of times.
Maybe he could get Billy Connolly or Kevin Bridges to sit in and field a few to lift the mood and boost The Bhoys

ED007 is it just me, or do you think the pressure is getting to Lennon?
Who cares what the Shakhter boss said, Neil should have just smiled and said we'll do our talking on the pitch and then AFTER the match.
I think a lot of Celtic fans are worried about conceding an away goal (or 2) but Lennon should have kept his counsel.
But even if we lose an early goal, I hope crowd and the team do not lose heart and keep plugging away. This away goal myth only works if you let it.
Winning 4-1 will still see us through.
But Forster must take more command of his penalty box along with our defenders, if we do that I have faith our attackers will score the required goals to see us qualify. hail hail Timalloy {Ed007's Note - I thought he handled it well Tim, sometimes the manager needs to show that bit of passion, plus if he hadn't said anything people would be asking why he let SK's manager get away with it or that he wasn't backing the team.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm more than worried about losing an away goal Tim but I want to stay optimistic.

I don't think I've seen a newspaper or the News in over a week with one thing or another so not sure who's saying what - maybe that's not a bad thing though ~ Mrs E

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree about the away goal, it is a big thing. We are saying "if Sammy plays this way. , if Commons does. , . They are probably saying, "2-0 up, if we can sit tight, snatch a goal, it's in the bag."
We have to expose ourselves to make up the deficit from first game. TinyTim

Would you start Forrest tomorrow? I haven't seen a lot of him granted, but he hasn't done much whenever I have. I go to every Scotland game (home and away) and whenever he has played he has struggled big time. Particularly against England, he was dreadful. Also when I have seen him play for Celtic he has flattered to deceive just as much. I am not doubting that the guy has talent, but surely it's time he had an end product and showed it consistently? He's not exactly a kid anymore. Also, what has happened to Tony Watt?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm a James Forrest fan but if he's carrying an injury then I would not play him tomorrow night.

I posted my team the other day and would play with 3 Centre Backs - Lustig, Ambrose and Mulgrew. As well as needing 3 goals, we cannot concede. I think this will give Izzy and Matthews more chance to get forward, give us more attacking options whilst keeping it tight at the back.

Opinions vary on Forrest but I would not leave him out of the Scotland squad. ~ Mrs E

@Dreamteam, sorry mate but I cannot take you seriously as a "genuine" Sevco fan on for some banter, yet quick to stick the boot into our young players.
Perhaps also you should be worrying about your club as it seems more staff are being made redundant while your board and your hero Sally rake in big fat bonuses with no thoughts for others.
But in the interests of "banter" dreamteam maybe like in Dallas you will wake up and your own teams demise and liquidation will all be a "bad dream" Timalloy

Agree0 Disagree0

To put it bluntly Forrest is gash! He's not had a decent game for long enough, time for a spell on the bench and give the jersey to a player who deserves it.

Briggs

Agree0 Disagree0

@2 it can't be anything like Dallas! As Bobby was in the shower! And let's face it, the chance that they catch a sevco fan in the shower (or bath) are very very slim!

The Dream Team
We are singing from the same hymn sheet on this one. Forrest has had every chance to turn into the player his early displays suggested he could be. But he hasn't taken the next step up to doing more of it and doing it more often. I think he's something of a liabilty and there are many games where we may as well be playing with 10 men when he's in the team. Some fans seem happy to dwell on his 1 or 2 really good performances every now and then but they also seem happy to forget the 10 or 15 games at a stretch where he does nothing, and I mean nothing.
If he were playing for your team many of us would be laughing at him and calling him useless but sometimes loyalty is blind. Take you for example! lol (now don't be getting annoyed, that was a joke!)
If I were the boss he wouldn't be in my team at all. I'd punt him out elsewhere.

Alfred Finbogasson.

Cardiff city have recently spent 8m on andreas cornelius of copenhagen so it would seem unlikely they would spend more money on a forward, I personally think its just one of those rumours to get fans excited.
From celtics point of view though I believe we are still heavily linked with him but even though the majority of fans(including myself) think the board are being unactive, they are waiting to see if we qualify for the group stages tomorrow night and then a possible 5m deal will be thrashed out for our assault on the champions league with another midfielder and defender brought in for considerable lesser fees than 5m. I don't think 5m on a striker would be too harsh considering we got 20m in transfer fees and reached the last 16 last season, no way would we spend 5m if hooper and wanyama were still here.
my main point is that if we qualify tomorrow then we will go for Finbogasson but if we don't and drop into europa league then we will go for teemu pukki.
I don't think the board are being tight, I just think they are waiting to see if we qualify for the cl.
If we did qualify and bring in a few players then I don't think this window would be unsuccessful having already spent at least 6m on balde van dijk and boerrigter, what's your thoughts?

i believe we would bring in Finbogasson and Nir biton plus a defender, but only if we go through tomorrow. thanks

Gb67

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You are probably spot on about waiting to see result tomorrow, let's be honest, signings only needed for CL, the league is a canter with there now being no opposition, so the board obvious think why spend cash when not required, only problem is it means watching weekly non events and with lesser quality than before. Will it affect attendances who knows.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the right time to bring in a forward was when Hooper left.

Its obvious NL has been chasing another forward since the last season with the loan signings of Miku and Lassad, granted we do have Balde but NL admits himself he is still 'raw'.

The only thing the CL should determine is probably the quality of CF but can't say i'm looking forward to even Europa League football with no like for like Hooper replacement. ~ Mrs E

I am very quietly confident for tomorrow night. The only issue I have surround 1 player. Kris Commons. On his day, he is fantastic, but if we are chasing the game tomorrow, and need a goal in the last 10 mins, rather than play the through ball or set somebody up, he will go for glory from 30 yards. as most people in the celtic and rangers end can verify, 9 times out of ten, the ball usually ends up beside them. He needs to stop being greedy, and look up and find a Celt. I do know that this will probably come back and bite me in the backside, but hey ho

Samson I will agree there are time's when Common's trie's strange thing's but he is our only creative player, just my opinion people, the one I am wary about, if he play's is Stokes, now there is a guy that need's to open his eye's and play like a team player, I know some will say he's a natural goal scorer but there should be more to his game, remember Henke

Evening folks, Rangers fan here in peace!

Just wondering how confident you all are for tomorrow night? Do you fancy turning it around?

Also, if you manage to, who would you like in the draw on Thursday? I know whenever Rangers were in the draws I always wanted the best team from pot one and then the closer teams from the other two pots, where there wasn't too much travel involved.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's tough to call although we have beaten much better teams many times. We need ALL the players to focus tomorrow and above all keep a clean sheet - which we are finding difficult to do - and a good referee is important (not a fuss pot who stops the game every ten seconds or who is 'all cards and no common sense').
We must start very well as the crowd/ atmosphere will unsettle them and an early goal for us will be ideal.
Am getting 'the buzz' already!

I don't have an opinion on your question. I was just replying to commend you on having a fantastic sense of humour.
For a fan of The Rangers Sevco 5088 Ltd. to have the wit to use a name like The Dream Team is really something quite special.
It reminds me of my time as a schoolboy. We had 2 particular boys in our class. The first was as timid as a mouse and we called him Fierce. The other was as slow as a slow thing and we referred to him as Lightning. You clearly have the same sense of humour that we had back then!

ChrisBhoy, I wasn't even going to bother replying to that pathetic comment, but I will clear it up for you. The reason my name is The Dream Team is because that is my fantasy football team name, simple as that.

Yourself and "Bazman" are part of the reason I don't often come on this page. I don't mind banter re. rangers & celtic when it is relevant, but I should be able to post a question to the CFC fans with a bit of a brain (the majority that is) without being subjected to the usual boring "patter" from people like yourselves. Therefore I will no longer respond to you, because you clearly don't fall under the "having a brain" category!

Good luck tomorrow!

Thommyj

Agree0 Disagree0

Thommyj,

I have no problem with the Celtic/Rangers banter and can certainly take it. Why else would I come on a site like this?

My problem is when I post a perfectly valid question just looking for an answer from a Celtic fan's point of view and certain posters on here, who it has to be said have a track record of turning everything on to Rangers, start that nonsense. ChrisBhoy seems like the kind of "Celtic fan" who will phone up SuperScoreboard tomorrow night before Celtic's CL qualifier but to talk about Rangers lol. That I can not understand nor can I stand it.

Agree0 Disagree0

The Dream Team (dammit l'm STILL laughing at that name! lol), l can assure you, l have NO INTEREST whatsoever in what happens to The Rangers Sevco 5088 Ltd.
You can also find comfort in the knowledge that l will NEVER phone any radio station to discuss your club.
By the way, you are the one coming to OUR site, l don't go to yours.
But more importantly, l was just having a wee innocent poke at you earlier. There was no malice intended. I feel l need to apologise to you for your lack of a sense of humour.

Hail Hail
ChrisBhoy .

Agree0 Disagree0

You don't come on the Rangers page? Haha alrighty then! As for the comment about having no interest in Rangers, you really are a comedian! You talk more about Rangers than Celtic, that is a fact which was proven long ago. Also proven by your original reply to my post that had zero to do with Rangers. It's actually embarrassing how much you talk about Rangers. I bet you actually wake up each morning and try to convince yourself just that, that you don't care about Rangers, when the reality is that you can't stop!

Hi Ed,

Not been on much lately, busy with work etc.

Anyway just want to wish the bhoys well for Wed night, I think if we can get an early goal we will go on to win quite convincingly.

If not we may struggle only 2 needed for extra time, without us losing one obviously.

Edge of the seat night to look forward to, if we win I think the transfer targets will come, I guess that's what we have to put up with these days.

Edge of the sear my rs, it should be a very comfortable 4 or 5, they were absolute mince, incapable of anything or than a hoof up the park or a long throw.

Agree0 Disagree0

@ 1). Remember, we haven't exactly covered ourselves in glory this season (especially away to Karagandy) so they might not have to be too good to get the result they need. It's definitely going to be a tense night for us and if they were to get an early goal, which many teams do seem to get at Celtic Park, then it's going to be very difficult indeed.
I sincerely hope our players don't have the same attitude towards this game that you have.

We haven't scored 4 in a game for a while and NL is still trying to find his best 11 so early in the season. So 3-0 would be a dream result; but our defending has been terrible lately so we need every player to be on top of their game - for the whole match.

Clutching at straws but does anyone think the time difference might have an effect on Shaktar?

They only arrived on Monday and they are 5 hours ahead which is the equivalent of the game kicking off at 00.45 their time.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It might if they turn up 5 hours late then don't we get awarded a 3-0 victory ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Was thinking that too. Especially second half, their body clocks will be around 2am. Nil Nil at halftime might not be too bad, the gaps may appear late on.

Joeshmo1888

Agree0 Disagree0

We had the same problem when we played there with time difference and it can be a factor. Another handicap was the absence of Celtic fans in numbers and I am hoping that on Wed this will give us a huge lift?

JJ

Agree0 Disagree0

I travel back and forth to east coast usa 5 hrs ahead of us and jet lag is worse coming back here usually takes me a couple of days to get back to normal so fingers crossed their sleep is disrupted maybe the fire alarms at their hotel going off in the middle of the night might help us ;o)

Agree0 Disagree0

OP here.

I was thinking about the old fire alarm trick or even a wee queue at the gates causing the kick off to be put back 15 to 20 minutes. As someone else said their body clocks will be way off especially as they have left it so late to travel over.

Tomorrow as per our usual routine the girls and I will "slaughter" a potato and have our usual roll and chips. We have found this condusive to putting us in a positive mood for the task ahead.
Our ritual has proved successful in the past and we fully expect it to bring good luck to Celtic and a margin of victory of at least 3 goals. hail hail Timalloy

What if NL thinks we have youth players ready to step up, or would you moan about that because no money is getting spent? As for your Doyle remark are you saying the club should sign players for the sake of of, just to appease fickle fans like you? It wasn't me or you who said he expects players on before elfsborg or shakhter it was Lenny!it was Lenny who said he expects one or two players in by midweek and was meeting an agent on Monday past. We can all get restless and grumble like only west of Scotland people can but come 7.45 tomorrow night we stand shoulder to shoulder and pump shakhter 4-0 then hopefully sign a couple of decent players.

Jim {Ed007's Note - Read through posts on here (mostly anonymous) that think all it should take is for NL to pick a player, tell PL to phone up, pay whatever transfer fee and wages is asked for and the player will crawl/swim to Glasgow just because it is CFC that are in for them. Transfers are always long drawn out affairs these days, and that is for every team. Certain players were offered a substantial bonus to sign for CFC before this round of CL qualifiers and turned it down, is that PL or the club's fault?}

Sometime's I have a quiet chuckle to myself, listening to poster's coming on here and crying about the loss of our spine' it's not that long ago they were slating Hooper and Wilson and saying they would drive them down to wherever they were going, no use coming on here now and moaning

Anyone else absolutely scundered by this transfer saga, I mean every day its someone new, or an agent or this player, getting beyond a joke and Peter Lawwell is at fault, so most say? penny pinching? I agree to an extent but we should not be held to ransom by other teams, but ffs we went into CL qualifier with NO RECOGNISED STRIKER? Whos at fault there? I really am starting to get pissed off with this window, a possibility of another £20 million plus into the kitty. Get the finger out Celtic, and please God we win on Wed night, other wise I think we will have trouble in the camp.j

Dannybhoy, everyone is entitled to their opinion at the moment, come wed night at 10.30 I hope we will be bouncing down london road and into the CL group stages, as for PL he will have to spend if we get there.

OP Please explain to me why it's Peter Lawell's fault, if he or his chief scout don't think they are worth the money so be it, the other side of the coin, nobody want's to come and play in the league we are in, NOT P.Lawells fault. You need to face the reality that unless we get into the group stage's, we are where we are.

Ed- I know a lot of Celtic fans feeling let down by the board, but putting a post up bud cause we all need to stick together this week, I know your well respected & liked on this forum & hopefully you agree & give a shout out we all need to stick by Lenny & the bhoys for Wednesday, I know we been poor so far but if we do this Wednesday our season will kick on from there, keep the faith hail hail, Chris30 {Ed007's Note - Thanks Chris, I'm nearly blushing here! I will always urge fans to get behind the team, there is plenty of time to mump and moan after the match but I'm hoping for 90/120 mins on Wednesday that the crowd really get behind the team. CP on big European nights is by far THE best atmosphere I have ever experienced anywhere, if the players, NL and the fans all do their jobs I think we will go through, they really weren't all that in the first leg. I have no doubt in my mind if Commons' shot had went in instead of hitting the bar we would be looking at a comfortable passage into the group stages.}
