I know It will not be a popular view, but watching the match today made me realise how much we miss Brendan Rodgers.
I know that there were some poor performances in Rodgers time here but we always had a goal threat. Now with the exception of the Aberdeen game we don't look like scoring most of the time.
For a while now we have had no midweek games yet despite having more time on the training field the players don't look as if they know what style of play the manager wants, there seems to be a lot more long balls and crosses but that is not these players strengths and they don't look happy playing this way.
I was unsure whether Lennon was the right man for the job, but from what I've seen so far I think we need someone else to take us forward.
Away from the performance, I thought the tributes to Billy McNeill were tremendous and I think the club should be congratulated.
From the laying of the wreaths to the opera singer everything was pure class and I'm sure Billy would have approved.

So Gerryc if it was tactics and BR instilled this in them surely the players can still fathom how to get the job done with or without him? I think they are just off the boil, plus I don't want to admit we might be missing the Rat.

Agree0 Disagree1

28 Apr 2019 09:55:53
I mentioned earlier that the players must be running on fumes these days - after such a packed season of cup-runs, Europe after Christmas a title 'chase', a trophy in the cabinet already, the horrendous injury list and impact on consistency and last of all 'substituting' our manager in February at the most crucial part of the season betraying and bewildering everyone associated with CFC.
There were a lot of early-season set-backs as well to overcome and I truly believe, (managers aside) these guys have held it together fantastically, mentally - even though the performances have been under par and the goals have dried-up for the time being; but are UNBEATEN domestically in 2019 and keeping clean sheets.
Add to that the uncertain futures of so many players and manager and I don't think any other club/ team could have coped like us?

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Apr 2019 11:28:58
Chinks67. If you look at the results from before Lennon took charge, we scored a lot more than we are now.
I accept that it has been a long season, but in our last 3 home games we have scored 1 goal, that surely can't be good enough. Yesterday we were up against a team with a lot of injuries and suspensions yet they frustrated us for long periods in the match.
Any Celtic manager should know that opposition teams by enlarge are going to come and park the bus, it's how they set up the team to combat those tactics that define how successful they will be.
So far Neil Lennon doesn't look as if he knows the answers.
I don't like what Rodgers did when he left but his record here was brilliant, 2 trebles, 7 trophies in a row, an unbeaten season domestically. I have no qualms about admitting that I will miss that quality in a manager.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Apr 2019 20:03:50
That was frustrating to say the least but 3 points it was. We are devoid of ideas at the moment and it shows on the park. Kilmarnock looked good on the counter when they weren't defending their goal like Ghengis Kahn. Tommy Rogic was blowing bubbles after 10 minutes, he's clearly not match fit. Eduoard is a brilliant young talent but he's so frustratingly hot and cold. Sinky again, ran himself ragged without any real impact on the game, Forrest was just disappointing. Calmac did ok but was crowded out by their parked bus, Broony made a couple of howlers and Jozo saved the day with a defenders header, wearing number 5 in the 67th minute. That was written in the stars.
So, just another day at paradise and another win!
One point. That's all it will take. Would it be so insane to say that we will win the league tomorrow afternoon? They now know that they are toast if they don't get a win against The McInnes Mutton Molestors and the pressure will be on. A couple of misplaced passes and missed chances and the crowd will be on their backs like a cheap suit. I can see a 0-0 or a 1-1.
Slippy will blame everybody but himself and the great big hope will fizzle and die like a dud firework.
That's my take on it!

They've got a few good players Mally, Clark is a brilliant manager. He must be working on their sprints. That boy Brophy is like greased lightning and even a previous dud like Burke is looking fit and strong.

eddy is not interested get shot in the summer.
that today was dire, only 4 players would get full marks today.
that lot better buck up for the cup final or we will blow the treble.
to me its clear, lennon is not picking the team nor in charge. don't know who is but its not hard to guess.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Apr 2019 22:19:12
Funny he seemed interested when with match winning performance against the mob after 2 last minute goals against hearts and Dundee while being our top goal scorer this season.
Apart from that ye he's not interested.

27 Apr 2019 23:27:16
kev are you blind or did you not watch that poor display today, eddy , sinnky, forrest, rogic all poor. broony ok calm ok . defence terrific, look at it, the same mince we have had all season.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Apr 2019 08:20:48
Robroy, I wouldn’t say the defence was excellent, Izzy was constantly letting his man go by him. And really they should have been a couple of goals up apart from Bain . I find it painful watching Izzy, Lustig has been slightly better recently but he definitely needs replacing as well.
Personally I think that’s eddys languid style, I wouldn’t say he’s not interested . Ntcham for me is frustrating, came in yesterday and he looked sharp. When we start him lately he can hardly find a team mate with a pass. That was a big result yesterday as we are creeping over the line at the minute.

28 Apr 2019 11:08:34
he would be even better if he was linking with a second striker.

28 Apr 2019 11:59:35
I think the body language and style of Edouard will divide people. Some will see it as 'not arsed' and some will see him as relaxed. At times it will seem infuriating and at times that sort of composure will see him do well in situations. He's a bit like big Sammy in that regard.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Apr 2019 17:32:46
exactly kev you mentioned LAST MINUTE. i want a striker who can score in 90 minutes ie 1 to 90 he is a lazy git that shows no spirit.
today should have raised all there spirits but it wasnt there, so in this post i would also ask that neil walks away after the final regards the result.

Taking NL out of the equation for the moment; we are seeing a very tired and jaded team showing guts and resilience, but little spark, pace or flair in front of goal.
The atmosphere, home advantage and magnificent tribute to Cesar should have been a shot in the arm, but we once again struggled against a packed, well organized defense with our front men heavily marked out the game and the passing/ shooting hurried and inaccurate, lacking composure.
However, I will say this; the best
compliment possible to big Billy, was given by Simunovic - who is one of the few in great form these days and his appropriately timed goal will be remembered forever.

The amount - and extent of our injuries are well documented and have clearly upset rhythm, consistence and confidence and the desertion of Rodgers at a very critical time of the season was obviously devastating for the whole club and is unforgivable.
Most of the players today were a shadow of their best form and this has been the case far too often; as this season has been the most difficult to deal with for years.
However, we are now 12 points clear and can touch the title, leading up to the Cup Final and a chance for the players to end the season on a tremendous high and the new manager to build on.

27 Apr 2019 23:56:20
Its not hard to figure out: the players must be more devastated by Rodgers' loss than the fans.

I must say I am surprised at the length of the slump (and it is a slump even in relation to the mediocre form we showed under BR this season) . Just as well we have a chance to bring in a new manager: I think everyone now sees that is imperative.

Agree2 Disagree0

28 Apr 2019 10:19:47
Kev, I agree with you, we have been a bit off our peak all season but the jaded effect does seem to have increased since Lenny came back, or should that be since Rodgers left? Perhaps it's a bit of both. HH.

Think this could be the making of Simunovic, he has struggled to hold down regular first team place, if there was ever a sign that big Billy wants him to play it was today, always thought there was a player there let's hope he can push on -absolutely buzzing HH.

I know we can be critical of the teams lack of goals this season and too many 0-0 draws but to be honest I'd be happy at this point with two losses and a 0-0 draw in the remaining matches. I'd be even happier if we win the league tomorrow at Ibrox without even kicking a ball lol. To be honest to win the league by 20 points or simply goal difference is all the same to me and this year with all the upheavels, injuries etc that we have had this champonship is really sweet.
Now only Hearts between us and another piece of history. COYBIG.

I hope the fact Moyes is in the crowd today does not mean he will be our next manager as I don't see us as the man to progress our club.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

27 Apr 2019 15:06:24
Our choices for the next manager are extremely limited. Do you think NL is any better than Moyes. Afterall he failed at Hibs and Bolton. At the same time Moyes was failing at Man u and West Ham. Heckingbottom has shown what can be achieved when encourging good players Lennon is still a Manager who lacks suttlety when talking to players and has shown a distinct lack of tactical nouse.
Perhaps you would prefer a german second div. manager with no european experience. BR record in the premiership is no better than Moyes. Whilst I am no flag carrier for Moyes and would love to see a young talented coach who is out there that will come to Glasgow.
My own preference is Julien Spartan at Rennes European experience and knowledge of the French leagues, He could get the best out of Eddy and Ollie.

Lenny should go with 2 up front today and put pressure on their inexperienced central defenders. I would go with a 3-5-2 especially if KT is injured and I agree with Kev83 he should start with Sinclair because he is good for a goal. Hayes has played well but if we haven't got a striker who can attack a cross ball, then we should go with Sinclair who will cut inside and link up hopefully with Eddy and Weah.
Bain
Lustig Jozo Ajar
Forrest Rogic Brown McGregor Sinclair
Eddy Weah.
I am sure the fans and players will make big Billy proud today as always. HH.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

27 Apr 2019 11:54:22
As much as I prefer and would like to see us playing two up front and utilizing Sinclair, Weah and Burke much more to help Eddy - I reckon NL is as stubborn as Dodgers regarding the lone front man.
It's baffling to me why we have stuck with this - especially against SPL opposition who sit back while we struggle to score goals?
Invariably it becomes necessary to change things when we fail to break teams down - so why not play 3-5-2 from KO?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - According to a first-team player their preferred formation is 4-2-3-1. Most teams that play 2 up front one of them drops deep into the No.10 (CAM) position anyway. 3-5-2 is just awful and so easy to counter especially when teams sit in deep - like most do against us - and punt long diagonal balls into the full back position leaves the defence exposed.
It's the CAM/No.10 position we need to improve, Rogic has the ability but he's far too inconsistent and doesn't work hard enough either imo.}

27 Apr 2019 00:18:43
Am I missing something by looking at Broonys last Glasgow derby performance through green tinted glasses? The Sevies seem to be finding it astonishing he has escaped punishment🤔 The controversial incidents that happened on the day involving Brown were:

1) Clips Morelos's heels, Morelos elbows him in the face. Brown smiles at Morelos as he is sent off

2) Brown throws ball away after Celtic 2nd goal and receives left hook off Kent.

3) Final whistle goes when play is in South East corner, Brown stands where he is and raises his arms. Halliday gets into Brown's face for celebrating. Brown retaliates by laughing at him.

For those actions to be taken to an investigation is a disgrace. If any Sevies want to give their version of events that day I'll be intrigued to hear them.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

27 Apr 2019 01:41:26
No Stevie, you haven’t missed a thing. You are 100% correct in your assertion that to investigate those actions was a disgrace. I don’t offer this as an opinion because it’s far too clear cut to be considered anything other than fact. I always felt that the SFA might regret the decision to investigate this and I think they may be on the verge of an extremely embarrassing week or two if they can’t make this go away quickly.

There was never a case for Broony to answer. As Lenny said, it was a trumped up charge from day one. Even the twats at the SFA have realised that they could never make a case for it.
To say he has been cleared is a disgrace in itself as that would suggest he was potentially wrong in his actions. Common sense says it should never have been a point for discussion to begin with. HH.
