Some comments in a separate thread got me thinking about loans and what is the best way to develop youngsters and lead me to the following question.

Is loaning out our players to other SPFL clubs really the Best for their development anymore?

Going out to the likes of Killie is all fair and well but are they receiving a grounding in the type of football that is required of them for playing for us anymore? How many players do we really loan out who come back and go on to be regulars? I can’t think of many where that has been the case, perhaps McGregor being a recent example and he didn’t go to a Scottish team.

I think that in any sport the only way you can improve is to play and train against players of a higher quality than you are currently at and we aren’t going to get that by loaning to other Scottish clubs, otherwise why aren’t we sending the likes of Ralston, Aitchison, Kouassi etc out to the likes of Dundee, St Johnstone etc?

Perhaps a more realistic route for us is to try and get these guys out to other countries where technique is more of the philosophy, set up a partnership with some teams floating at the fringes of top divisions in Spain, Germany, Holland and Italy and see if any would be willing to take a few of our prospects on for a year and see how it goes. At the very least they will be getting a better football education than they would be getting at Ross County or wherever. Or maybe I’ve been playing too much championship manager.

@Evinguu may I make two points
Firstly, you are far too sensible to be on here
Secondly, in the absence of Wee Pat can I remind you of our agreement to keep your posts short lol.

Why do people keep mentioning Ralston for lone when he's our number 2 right back?

Agree1 Disagree4

{Ed007's Note - Loan out Ralston, spend millions on a new RB and bench Lustig.}

Erving: ok so some of the EPL clubs get us to give their youngsters a start . What I have noticed with some of the younger players down south is, they don’t want to go on like an they want to play football and as such are walking away from teams like Chelsea to get a start at a lower league team: This is where the real Gems are and they will be cheap.
Getting a player like PR and Moussa sends a message out to these kids that we will give you start and a chance to make a name for yourself.

I agree with you Evingu. It's player depending of course, foreign players may need to adjust to the Scottish/ British game. Likewise a youngster may add the strings they need for their bow in a different environment, such as Spain. I think the coach/ manager of the receiving club is a big factor too. How are they teaching players to play? I think that is more important than where they are playing. Bang on with the idea of setting up partnerships abroad, I know we have some official ones already but I don't hear much about players swapping Celtic for Santos Laguna or vice versa.

Evingu. we now have Clark at killie regarded as a great coach in epl and most would have had him here coaching. they need players without spending our boys need experience an opportunity? . kev . yes he's no 2 but six month or a season playing regularly rather than possibly a dozen as back up must be better for boys like Ralston.? . don't know . but do the loan boys train everyday with their loan clubs.

Timalloy, that is short by my standards, I could have gone on as well you know.

Kev. I’m not saying he should be one out on loan just using as an example. But have not seen it mentioned myself that he needs it.

Ed now that is what I call thinking, need a new 6 mil right back who can also play centre mid.

Deep river bhoy he would have played plenty games here if he hadn't been injuried. He's already played against some of the best in the world and is by far a better player than gamboa.

JFP, that's the best call I have heard, he can talk to Millar and lafferty as his assistants.

Pat, Neil's a good manager with CL experience so why not? I agree though John is shorter odds! 👍😂☘️.

Ed, I know Pedro and his old club / the new club will be the topic of conversation for a bit but horror of horrors I wanna talk about our greatclub! lol
Do you think we' plan to do much in the transfer market come January? HH.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I think we'll be looking to bring in a CB and hopefully laying the groundwork for Gordon's replacement.}

26 Oct 2017 16:39:25
That would do me. Gordon was a step backwards from day one and Jozo's injuries are making him a bit of a liability. Ed what's your thoughts on loaning Ajer out? There's a bit of debate, some managers prefer to keep youngsters in and around the first team in training with the superior coaches, but sometimes a player needs to go out and get games. Is it very much just a case of horses for courses? I was hoping to see him get the odd run out domestically. It was promising to see him get on against Dundee but BR clearly favours Bitton just now even with Jozo and Erik away.

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Oct 2017 17:04:21
Jim Tim. I'd have ajer and Ralston out on loan preferably in spl . training with 1st team is good but getting game time / experience in league is better imo.

26 Oct 2017 17:40:21
What do you mean by "lay the groundwork" Ed?

{Ed007's Note - Seeing what's available and what's attainable to us, hold some talks with clubs and agents about possible moves in the summer, stuff like that.}

26 Oct 2017 19:10:07
I’d have Ajer right n the first team before NB I think he’d flourish given game time!

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Oct 2017 19:15:02
That's the way I'd lean too DRB, nothing beats first team football in my opinion. However I get the thought process behind a manager wanting to mould a youngster his own way.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Oct 2017 19:27:03
Why would ralston go out on load when he's our number 2 right back?

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Oct 2017 19:41:36
I would hope Conor Hazard get a game in nets before we splash out on a new keeper, we might have a gem already in our ranks.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Oct 2017 15:50:27
I would like to see a CB a FB and a keeper. If we can identify that midfielder that takes us a step forward, I would like that too. Ntcham ain't that player.

I think the two skelping a from PSG and Bayern showed clearly if the current squad cannot calm down to play their normal game, no major advance in the CL will be possible.

I believe it's stage fright with our players. If they just chill the Feck out and believe more in themselves we can give Bayern a better game.

The passing and movement was ruined by fear. Get over that and we are a different team. Don't and we need players who can.

Let's hope the team chill the feck out and play the way they can.

ED007 with this sad news today for all us Tims, I thought I would cheer everyone up by compiling my top 5 Caravan songs.
Planet Caravan (where Pedro lived)
Caravan of Love (not any more)
Camper Van (all he can afford now)
Spanish Caravan (split in two)
But my favourite has to be.
If Jesus drove a Motor Home, and the irony goes on with the composer JIM WHITE.

So, Pedro goes and is probably relieved. What next for the Ibroken club? No decent manager worth thinking about will go near that basket case of a club, no money to get one in any case. Number 1 scenario is on an 'internal reshuffle' with Miller taking on a coaching role under Murty until they can convince some eedjit to take on the job. Number 2 scenario is Murty might do well and be given the job full time with Miller as assistant, Number 3 scenario, a 'real ranjurz man' is found (Mcleish, Ferguson, Gazza, King William etc etc) Number 4, 5, 6 etc etc. Any of those scenarios are going to cost the club a serious slice of wedge.
Better go get my Ice cream out the freezer and make my Jelly!

Just waiting to collect £50 from each of 2 work colleagues. A daft bet made in the heat of the moment after we drew 0-0 with Rosenberg. They reckoned we wouldn’t qualify for European football. I bet we’d have European football longer than they had a manager. 😂.

It's their failure to look in the mirror and see the pig looking back at them that stops them seeing their club for what it is, they see the king looking back and expect the money and success that comes with it. So they'll never be happy, but we'll be as happy as pigs in shit, n that's all that matters.

Great result and the performance was different class, truly remarkable from the players . Scott Brown take a bow your level of performance leadership and will to win is the reason you are the best midfielder produced in Scotland for the past 10 years captain fantastic and the envy of every other club in the league.

If ever there was a performance that said "keep your hands off our title" then last night was it.
It wasn't just the score line, but the way we played which sent a message out about how far ahead we are of everyone else.
I was at Hampden on Saturday and thought we looked a bit laboured at times, so I was a bit wary of going to a fired up Pittodrie so soon after, but the manager did a great job in preparing the team and we coasted it.
I don't think there would be many managers who would have left out Sinclair, Roberts, and Griffiths from arguably our toughest domestic game of the season, it shows how in command he is of our team, and it sends a message out that whoever you are, if performances drop he will not hesitate in leaving you out.
Well done to everybody last night.

It was exhibition football at times and as well as giving the support so much pleasure and satisfaction it will have further instilled a supreme confidence in the players (and manager) of what we they have become as a team.
This month was always going to be a very tough challenge and there were signs of fatigue after the internationals and CL travels but this team never ceases to amaze and delight and long may it continue.

Out of the 11 that started last night 10 of them were here before the manager arrived.
Have we ever seen that many players improved by a new manager coming in at Celtic before?

I went to my first game in 1962 and the obvious comparison would be big jocks transformation in 1965/ 66
However there are very strong similarities to the belief and confidence being instilled with wise words, practices and motivation that augurs well for the future of Celtic.
