Not sure yet. I tend to only bet on results I think will happen. Whether it be Celtic getting beat or not. I actually see a Celtic win so still to make up my mind. Any big games involving us I have been known to back our opponents though whether I think we'll win or lose. Depends how I feel. I do my bit for charity and I think I'll do what I want with my money anyhow.

A find that totally bizarre u back any big team to beat your own very strange mate

I'm not wanting us to get beat! Certainly no Zombie. Not going to lie, a few people I know also find it daft I bet against my team but there you go. Particularly in Europe I'll bet against Celtic winning. That way if we don't win I at least get a financial gain to dampen the blow slightly.

So when we lose your secretly loving it then that's what your saying were all sad we get beat but your happy running all away to the bookies good on u mate

I have often doubted Celtic winning European games over many years and although betting against them would give some sort of cold comfort financially, I would rather hope for a minor miracle, than gain a few bob (as the odds were never that great); although I used to do a similar thing on the 'fixed odds' coupons years ago and included Rangers to win - and if they got beat I was a pound or two down, but happy as F*#%.

Heard anything about us looking at Kramer from den Haag ED? Think this guy would have been a much better option than ciftci from the start! U think we mite be lookin at another striker if stokes or scepovic or both leave the club? Any word on a the left back from St Pauli to bud?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I just know that Kramer was watched mate. I've always thought we were looking for another striker and that Scepovic will leave to Spain or perhaps Israel. There's been no new bid made for Halstenberg.}

26 Jul 2015 22:06:19
Cheers bud, hope your rite! Would feel a hell of a lot better with another front man in the door! Defo think we need it!

Just checking the odds for the Qarabagh game, according to the bookies Celtic are odds on favourites at 2/5 and Qarabagh are as big as 13/2. I do not know how bookies have arrived at these odds as this team could be a Champions League level team, I hope bookies are right but I can see a lot of punters jumping on the 13/2 odds.

26 Jul 2015 18:18:04
I think I might waste a pony on that as some sort of safety. But I'm glad the bookies odds reflect my confidence. I really can't see us losing. Especially not at home anyway.

Did my post not go through ed? Was just asking if you had any information on what the situation with dirk was. Also what was behind the extensions of Irvine and mcgeogh, was it to do with squad depth or do the coaches think they have a future .

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Boeriggter is available but nobody has shown any interest yet but I wouldn't be surprised to see him back in Holland before the window closes. I don't know what you mean about McGeouch and Irvine, why give them extensions if they aren't in the manager's plans, if we've offered McGeouch a contract only to sell or loan him out that's a terrible way to treat any young player.}

I meant along the lines of keeping them on rather than having to buy someone in for back up

DN will be happy. To be fair so will I and a few others from what I've read on here. Target man with a good record. Doesn't get the heart racing so to speak but, I don't think any signing will and I would be a lot happier with this player in the squad.

He signed for Baniyas in UAE, but transfer was cancelled because Baniyas couldn't raise the £1.5m transfer fee by set deadline.

Im convinced he would do well for us if we signed him. A far better choice than Cifti

26 Jul 2015 18:19:38
For the same money he's a much better shout imo! I think £1.5m is a bargain.

Am I the only who has concerns about making it through the Qarabag tie? I feel this night a game or two too early for the back four. Vvd and Boyata still look as if they are a few games away from a partnership. Lustig is a class act for me but I have never been comfortable with Mulgrew at left back. Not seen anything of Qarabag but they're results last season show they are no mugs. Silva has an excellent scoring record and will need watching closely. Thoughts?

I have never watched them but have been checking through their results. Based on that I would conclude that they are not much of a goal threat but are solid defensively.

Personally speaking, I think we will beat them, although we should give them the respect they deserve as they are capable of an upset.

I'm confident mate. No doubt they've had some good performances. But so have we. It'll be a case of who can find form and I think we've got to have more quality. All I know is we need a good 2/3 goal lead from the home leg to make the away tie comfortable.

We still need a centre forward who is better than Griffiths - Ciftci is not that player.

This is not me basing it on the few games I've seen him play for us but at Dundee Utd as well.

I'm still hopeful of a massive improvement from him though.

26 Jul 2015 14:58:57
I don't know what more Griffiths needs to do. Top scorer last year when he only really got a run of games after Christmas. He is a natural goal scorer, I am sure there may be better all round strikers out there but not within the fee and wages we would be able to pay. I always remember the old adage it's goals that count and the wee man can deliver them in abundance

26 Jul 2015 15:22:23
I was very disappointed when we signed him as apart from taking the lazy and economical road of raiding Dundee United, yet again - Ciftci had never impressed me as Celtic quality.
OK he does have some aspects we lack in our front players, but what I have seen so far has confirmed my initial reservations.
Obviously we can't do much about it now and have to hope he makes a big improvement (when his ban expires) and can help Celtic negotiate the qualifiers in some capacity.
We have made some very dubious and worrying signings in recent seasons in a position (striker) where we used to excel!

26 Jul 2015 15:48:20
Sorry I should have worded it better, it's not a pop at Griffiths really.

100% agree, he's giving it his all and getting us goals.

It was more - he's all we've really got and I would like to see someone who has the wee bit more ability. I do not think that guy is Ciftci, he seems quite a bit behind Griffiths at the moment.

I still don't like the 1 up front either and it will irritate me more this season than it did last, particularly at home!

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2015 17:28:22
I think Griffiths has got more than enough ability, think the main problem ,thats goig to hinder Celtic,is their defence, but once that gets sorted, what they lack most is a bit more creativity in midfield,Ciftci will be a good foil for Griffiths if the midfield was more creative,Iknow it will probably never happen but Allan might be a good buy,the chance to play in europe might be attractive to him,and he could be the spark the midfield needs.

On a daily basis we see buckets loads of money getting flashed around the EPL buying/ selling players.

If we put the % on players on how they are rated,
it would be something like this .

World class: 5%
Excellent : :15%
Good :50%
average 30%

Prices paid over the top.

Thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

26 Jul 2015 15:06:23
I think your point is spot on. EPL squads are filled with lots of average players. they all seem to be a similar type, physically powerful, and athletic with limited technical ability. This is evident in transfer fees which are paid for anyone vaguely talented look at the quoted figures for John Stones. In my view Virgil is a better player than him now and will develop more in the future as well. There is an arrogance about The EPL and how they place unwarranted value in players in that league. If Adam Matthews had signed for Sunderland from burley the fee would have been a multiple of what we received even if he was in a team getting beat every week.

Totally agree ,just look at the fee Andy Robertson pulled in then compare it to the thirty odd million man u paid for tht young fullback, who's name I can'nt remember

Mrs E,saying we still need a centre forward who is better than Griffiths,is taking 'not having a pop at Griffiths to an extreme',you would probably like it if we had eebramovitch or van basten, but centre forward is an old fashioned term, like when we had a centre forward in the middle ,an inside forward on either side and a left and right winger, the good old days,I think we have to build from the back ,sort the defence out then get the rest of the side fixed,RD should have been doing this last year,i think RD has got this MLK complex and it is going to hinder him in getting the team sorted.
