Sublime back heel by Lewis Morgan to set up a goal by St Mirren.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

27 Jan 2018 10:52:39
Apart from the back heel, how did he play and does he look capable of holding down a first team place? If we manage to sign wee paddy I don't think he will. If we don't, he has a better chance taking Forrests place.

Signing Paddy for me should be an absolute priority if it's at all possible.

Morgan does seem a higher level of oroject and I hope the boy turns into the player so many think he will. I will not get carried away though as I have project fatigue and gave learned not to listen to the hype anymore.

Daft question but does anyone know if there's a lift to the upper tier? Got a chance of 2 tickets tomorrow and I'd like to take my boy but with his walking difficulties he wouldn't manage all the stairs. Just on the off chance. Cheers lads.

ED007 I take it you are as unsurprised as me that McCann has gone to his pals in the media to slag Celtic for putting in a "very low bid" the very same media who NEVER mention amount Sevco bid for any player, different rules again.
I also heard that the Hendry bid was made about TWO WEEKS ago, so why is McCann going public with this now, perhaps to try and get more interest (and a bigger amount) for his player.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

{Ed007's Note - I didn't see McCann going anywhere or slagging Celtic at all, he was at his weekly press conference so the media went to him, and just like Rodgers spoke about Dembele yesterday McCann spoke about Hendry today, or don't Dundee fans deserve to know what's going on with their players the same as we constantly demand to know? So what exactly are you saying he's done wrong because I can't see it?
There was no bid for Hendry from Celtic two weeks ago.}

26 Jan 2018 17:10:32
ED do u think Celtic will go back in or wait to see what's happening with their own CHs first?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - If we've bid for Hendry I assume there's a deal close for Simunovic.}

26 Jan 2018 17:27:57
Looks like it but I like big jozo tae I think there's a player there.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - He wants to move to play regular football, he won't do that under Rodgers.}

26 Jan 2018 18:05:57
I'm sure I read a load of stories about the gers putting in derisory bids and a story of how the chairman of Shitkickers Utd was saying they stole his players.

Also Boyd giving it tight to the gers.

Me thinks this is a classic case of selective retention.

{Ed007's Note - I don't know for sure mate there's that much bs getting bandied about but I'd be looking for Ā£5-6 million at least.}

If Hendry from Dundee is Brendanā€™s idea of bringing in quality players that will enhance the squad then Iā€™m worried! Is this going to bring us on in Europe? Donā€™t think so! Reeks of the cheap option yet again! Hope Iā€™m way off but I donā€™t hold out much hope for our transfer business before the window shuts! Really is so underwhelming yet again!

Agree2 Disagree0

27 Jan 2018 12:01:54
I agree with you about Hendry. Miles off the class any serious attempt to improve on the CL stage. Another project who would be released a year or two down the line and ultimately a waste of cash.

Rogers isn't exempt from mistakes. Doris and Hayes two perfect examples of this.

Simo has the potential if he can remain fit. big Comp isn't eligible for Europe so we are still in the same position as we were before we signed him.

If Hendry is the choice then it's not sorting the problem.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Jan 2018 12:56:05
Itā€™s the mixed messages from the manager and assistant that I just canā€™t understand! Itā€™s weā€™re only looking for players that will enhance our squad then bidding for Hendry, itā€™s moussa feels like it mite be the time to move on from Davies then Brendan saying heā€™s committed and wants to stay and we donā€™t want to sell! And this days after Brendan says heā€™s only looking to put players in the team that are committed and leaves moussa out against Brechin and Partick! Just a few strange comments coming out and In the meantime still no transfers in sight! Lot of talk of Musonda yet again but I heard all this in the summer!

Sell dembele and move on, if we get 12 mill + an add take it. or slap a 20 mil on him and tell clubs not to make offer below this.

driving me nuts. Its enough to make an injun stike his chief.

Does anyone know if we have an up and coming striker in the development team? we can beat anyone in the spl without him.

Any thoughts, should he stay or should he go.

Believable1 Unbelievable8

26 Jan 2018 21:04:37
Brighton bid Ā£12mill i believe and it was rejected. To be honest i think Ā£15mill is as much as we would get unless he has a great second half to the season and to do that he has to play. He won't start tomorrow.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2018 23:36:20
He should stay. He's had a stop-start season. But he's still a quality young asset. Some people are making out like he's lost all of this. Moussa turned down better sides than us so that he can play football, he knows he's at a big club as well. He'll only move when a) a bid is actually accepted, never mind received and b) to a club worth going to that will play him. I think CD might have just had a bit of a mare with the presser he did.

{Ed007's Note - It must be about 6 or 7 years ago now, Jim White said "After the break we've got some news about Wesley Sneijder's move to Man Utd". I had been hoping all summer Utd would sign him and thought that was it happening, I sat there for another 2 hours before they announced that "Sneijder's odds of joining Utd had been slashed!" - that was it for me, I turned it off and have never watched any SSN since. It's nothing more than a vehicle for them to manipulate the betting market and part gullible punters from their money. It was obvious that their initial statement had affected the odds and that's only one example of them doing it, there'll be plenty more.}

I think we are fine with what we've got for this season and only need a number 10.

My worry is going into the CL qualifiers next season. As it stands moussa and edouard will probably be away in the summer leaving us with one striker. Roberts will be back at city leaving us short of wingers again. Rogic will be at world cup and armstrongs contracts up so we need creative mids in. Lustig at world cup, big few months for ralston imo, we need to find out if he's good enough or if we need to try and buy a new rb.

If edouard has a blinder of a second half of season and we sign him and paddy then we won't be short. But to sign both of them will cost 15+ million, not going to happen.

Back to this season. Once paddy and rogic are back and if moussa stays they will play a major part in the season. They are all superb. We know what moussa is like on his day and he will get back to his best.

Ntcham and broony is definitely the way to go in cm. Calmac on the other hand needs to be dropped for a few games. I think defensively we are ok. If ralston comes in and we sign hendry then im happy with it.

A number 10 really is a priority, let's hope the behind the scene work is going to pay off, its seems to have worked for ntcham.

Armstrong's contract isn't up in the summer. Did he not sign a contract extension?
I get what you are saying though, creatively our mid needs a serious makeover and the striker situation isn't going to be ideal come the summer I feel.
A Rb, Cb, and creative mid is a must before the window closes. I can't see dembele leaving in this window so I'd be surprised if a striker is brought in. A Gk is also a must in the next window but I feel using gordan for the qualifiers is the best way to go as playing a new Gk straight away could be disastrous.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2018 12:30:23
Potentially we could lose a lot of players by the summer:

Sviatchenko
Boyata
Simunovic
Gamboa
Armstrong
Roberts
Dembele
Edouard

Also think Gordon and Lustig need replaced, massive rebuilding could be required in the summer, no easy task replacing a lot of players and bedding them in for CL qualifiers, World Cup summer can make it more difficult should we target players who are participating.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2018 13:42:59
Yes many could go in the summer which is why we need to recruit now for the CL qualifiers.

A no 10 is essential. Yeah you are right Armstrong has another year, but his head was all over the place during preseason and we don't want the same thing happening again.

Really just hoping we pull a few wonder signings out the bag. There must be so many players in england who were like sinky, they need a celtic to revive their careers instead of rotting away down south.

I think jozo and boyata are good enough but just not been on it this season.

I think its safe to say craig gordon will be our number one for another season.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2018 08:10:23
Starting to think these last few days of the window could be massive for us, not really in terms of keeping our best players, more so keeping our manager beyond the end of the season. BR quoted as saying ā€œwe mustā€ sign players before the end of the window. If we donā€™t I can see him walking at the end of the season. Must be hard enough as it is for him looking down south and seeing teams like Brighton and Southampton throw Ā£15-20m a time at players, without us then spending even a fraction of that on players he obviously thinks we need.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

26 Jan 2018 09:08:24
If he walks through being jealous of the money down south, then good luck to him on the managerial merry go round that is English football . Will be out on his arse in a few months .
Brendan will have known the markets, money and budgets he would have at his disposal before he took the job . Thanks for the memories, but no man is bigger than the club, just like o'neil before him .

Agree0 Disagree1

26 Jan 2018 09:26:08
Do you not think Brendan spoke about the need to be supported and was given assurances before he said yes? He is only in his early 40's and in order for him to move to clubs in better leagues requires he succeeds in the CL.

By succeeding, I mean qualifying and putting up a fight for 3rd and avoiding humiliating defeats. If he doesn't do that then no big club will entertain him on the basis of winning trebles up here.

Rogers is using Celtic much like any player as a launch pad back to richer pickings. He being one of us wants to make us as good as he can before moving on. If the board act like successive boards and don't strengthen when in front, then he certainly will be off and the board will have a fan revolt on their hands. And quite rightly.

The thing that keeps me saneish, is I know he would have been assured that if he managed to secure CL money then he would be backed. He has done this and got out of the group. There is no wAy we are good to go with just one good player, a no 10.

Our defence is a shambles if inconsistency and mistake making. They have been found out both at home and particularly in Europe. We need to improve and we simply don't have the class currently, either on the bench it coming through.

If the board don't back him, we fail. All the talk of becoming a CL team is seen to be another dose of bullshit from the board. Rogers own self interest should force him to demand, not ask, but demand that they money he has enabled us to be brought in is invested in players.

We are one of the top supported clubs in the world, we spend on merchandise and there is a waiting just for season tickets. Does anyone think that situation will continue if the board don't turn their ambitious words I to action?

Me neither.

They owe it to the fans to support Rogers. They owe it to Rogers for securing the near Ā£70m we have earned in the CL. Rangers are improving, what do we do, let them shorten the gap by doing feck all?

I have never been a fan if the level if ambition of our board. I was sickened after returning from Seville and reading in the view from Quinn that they would support MON and did feck all.

I truly believe they wi support him because if they don't they are putting a loaded gun in their own mouths as they will show themselves to be incapable of leading our great club.

The signings, more than a no 10 are required right now. I believe we will do it. The oriskect if Rogers leaving becomes a cert if they don't. There will be no waiting list fir a season book. There will be no CL money and we will be back to a level playing field with the Sevconians.

If they allow that they will deserve all the fury that will come their way.

They won't though. Not this time.

Probably :)

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Jan 2018 09:31:41
He needs to be given some if the CL money he has brought. Not the mega bucks but enough to improve our team. I believe he would have sought and received those assurances. We will buy players we need to improve.

We cannot go into the CL qualifies with the defence we have. That's just a matter of fact. They make an already difficult task Herculean.

There cannot be one Celtic fan either in the boardroom, pub, at the games who doesn't know this. It will happen. It had better.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2018 12:14:28
Defense defense defense, it seems all and sundry are fixated with our defense.
I have a different perspective on this, its not the defense/ players its the organisation of it.
We are a very attacking team no doubt about this and we need to be but I feel this hinders us in Europe, our natural instinct is to attack but the reality of the situation is in the CL 85-90% of the teams are superior to us.
So we need to change tactics for this and if u ask me KT Lustig and Boyata are good at defending, Boyatas problem is on the ball not defending.
Lustig is not good when one on one and exposed but put him in as part of a 4 then he knows what he is doing just look at Sweden.
KT is well? Just KT.
Jozo still needs to convince me.
A perfect example of this is Barca, all great players in defense and buy any one of them would cost a fortune but they are exposed time and again cos the way they play and not properly protected hence concede goals .
How many times have we came up against a stubborn Thistle or Inverness and struggled to score cos they well organised and battling for everything and their defense is protected.
As much as i love BR and trust him to be able to change a game i have yet to see him adopt this kind of approach in Europe and giving the opposition little space to play in and be able to hit on the break.
When we play top class opposition we have to be able to stop them from being comfortable and playing the way they want, give them something to think about and change our game to accomodate this.
I feel we make it too easy for them.

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Jan 2018 12:19:46
Thing is, nobody knows what's going on inside Celtic with regards to signings. Who's to say BR does or does not have the full backing of the board? Everything is pure speculation because we are a professional club that discretely goes about our business, not some comedy show using a corrupted media to destabilise other clubs and unsettle players. Do we really believe that BR will be given carte blanche to spend millions on one player at a time? I am desperate to see new signings in some key areas but although disappointing, I know we won't be seeing superstars coming in. Good decent footballers with a proven record will be as good as it gets. Our board just won't sanction big deals.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2018 12:32:15
Rayman, its not just defence defence I agree we do need at least one creative midfielder and if Moussa goes a striker, and while are about it, a goalie to ut pressure on gordon. as three distinct units of the team, the defence is absolutely the biggest weakness. not the only one if we want to progress but the main one.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2018 14:59:53
MP I understand your worry but for me in Europe its the midfield that's the weakest, the defense is solid domestically.
in Europe the midfield consistently give the ball away under any pressure which time and time again expose the defense.
When u look at it logically we have one of Europes best young left back, a Belgian international, an experienced swedish right back and a young gifted centre back.
In midfield we have scotland captain, young frenchman whilst talented still to prove himself and either Armstrong/ Mcgregor who don't cut it, ok potentially Rogic who not done it yet.
Attack, one of europes best young striker who is not playing or injured and looks to be going anytime soon, scotlands best striker by far and i a big fan of but struggles in europe along with Sinclair and Forrest/ Roberts all of which are inconsistent and although talented have yet to do anything.
So when u break it down defense could be arguably our strongest asset but as i said its not the players its the way we set up that's the problem.
Many many teams defend better with lesser players cos of set up and organisation.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jan 2018 16:31:46
I agree that we need more creativity in the middle. I think we need both though. A half arsed approach fixing one bit is not the answer and I believe Rogers wants t address both.
