Glad to see Broony calling it a day on his Scotland career. This can only be good for Celtic.
I also don't think he fancied playing for McLeish.

Believable3 Unbelievable3

26 Feb 2018 22:14:50
Correct decision by Brown, there will be very little success for Scotland under the cheat McLeish .
I think if Scotland have any plans for qualifying for anything in the next 10 years they should ignore all players 27/ 28 and over as recent European and World Cup qualifying efforts have been poor . These players haven't served Scotland well and a new group of players should be given a chance . Also better playing SPL based players than playing Championship and League 1 in England.

Agree2 Disagree6

27 Feb 2018 01:07:33
form players haven't been given the run in the team when Scotland needed it. Too many faces that had old ties and caps to thier names were given the nod. The other point about championship and league one players getting a game. If the players aren't in the celtic squad or are standouts in the spl (soon to be ch, L1) then where exactly do these players come from? Nobody moves off this island bud. None of the better younger players in recent years are brave enough to give it a go abroad for less dough in better leauges.
I'm blaming Sky! It's the easiest deflection and safest option.

I remember watching McTominay in pre-season and was impressed so had a read up on him. Supposedly he wants to play for Scotland. The way he's playing at the moment the SFA want to be all over him before somebody down south tries to change his mind.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Feb 2018 10:54:32
From what I've heard Jim he was born in England, thinks of himself as English and wants to play for England!?

Agree1 Disagree1

27 Feb 2018 10:54:40
When I started following football first in the '60's and '70's Scotland had an exceptionally good team . They even went to a World Cup expecting to win it .
At that time you had to be a really top " Anglo"' as they were called then to get on the team . Nowadays it seems to me that it is the opposite, once an average player goes down South, he becomes a Scottish International and spends half the season rotting away on the bench .
The SFA and SPFlL do nothing to promote our game, their goal is to bring the standard of football down to the Rangers Level .
The Scottish Manager will have to grasp the bull by the horns and try giving recognition to home based players, players not clubs . I know people berate J Maginn but he should be on every Scottish team if fit . Better him than some over paid under played Championship misfit.

Agree3 Disagree3

27 Feb 2018 13:39:34
we need to rub it out and start again, we have a lot of young talent coming through, and we also need a couple of old heads for their experience, not sure about McLeish, they should have burst the bank for steve clarke.

Don’t let yesterday use up too much of today.

Agree0 Disagree1

27 Feb 2018 23:18:55
By placing emphasis on players playing in Scotland we surely cannot weaken our team which is about as poor as it can be . However we can give Scottish League a much needed boast. If young players at Partick Thistle or Dundee can become regular Internationals they may stay in Scotland longer and their clubs may obtain a higher transfer fee . It might also slow down the number of average and below average foreign players flooding into our game in Scotland.

Any chance Dembele will extend his contract in the summer Ed?

If not I reckon he will be punted after the CL qualifiers as I can't see us allowing him to get into the last year of his contract

Really hope the big man stays though as he is outstanding when he is on form and I reckon he will only get better and more consistent.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Dembele's got another 2 years to run on his deal come this summer and even though I'd love to see him sign on for longer I can't see it happening, I think he'll move this summer.}

26 Feb 2018 19:04:42
Like to think celtic would have the hee haws to offer him a good pay rise and show the fans they mean business. if he goes, do we spend x amount £ mil on a striker or offer him £2/ 3 mill for another 2/3 year deal. but it depends if he's looking for that big pay off big money deal, or thinks he will not get in the French team, or he's fed up already playing against crappy teams who will not play football and kick him. I think he will be off, and there's a possibility no one will buy and we lose money, but then we have 2 years with an unhappy player not tuned in. some of my thoughts. HH.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Feb 2018 19:29:25
him and his agent have a gentlemans agreement with rodgers that he can leave after 2 years, so he will be away in the summer.

Agree7 Disagree5

26 Feb 2018 21:24:04
Depends on what value Celtic put on him? Its all very well to say he will be away but what value does anyone think he is worth? BR has said he won't sell players under market value because they are from Scotland.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Feb 2018 22:19:46
I think Dembele will want to move this summer and we should endeavour to get a deal as possible for him and Celtic .
It would be crazy to punt any player that is any way as good as Dembele unless that player has looked for a move.

Agree1 Disagree4

27 Feb 2018 06:45:05
It's already starting to sound like it might be a bit of a busy summer for us. With Dembele and Boyata looking to move on; it might also be a good time to sell Rogic and Armstrong; Paddy's situation will need resolving either by signing him or a replacement; plus I was hoping that might be the window we finally address the GK situation. Apart from Armstrong where we have Ntcham, the rest need QUALITY replacements. The revolving door is going to need some WD-40.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Feb 2018 11:01:57
Jim Jim . Be careful you don't fall into the trap set by SMSM and start pushing our players out of the door . Nobody knows if Dembele will be leaving this summer .
Remember half wits amongst Celtic supports followed SMSM and have had him leave in each of the last three Windows . There is a reasonable chance he will go this summer . Apart from the usual nonsense from the SMSM, we have nothing to indicate Boyata is going anywhere. Some Celtic fans just cannot wait to spread the spurious lies from SMSM.

Here is my shout for a clean out. Looks dramatic to say the least, think i just sold a team lol.

Players to sell:
Gordon, De Vries, Gamboa, Simunovic, Lustig, Biton, Hayes, Rogic, Benyu.

Dembele - sell sooner rather than later if the money is there.

Boyata - if he's wants away then sell.

Roberts - keep on loan or send back (i don't like loans).

Griffiths? something is not right with him and BR.

Some of the players above have been great for Celtic though.

Bring back loans:
Hazard, Christie, Morgan.

Any thoughts?

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Feb 2018 17:31:10
That's 8 regular starters. Its easy to say get rid but you need to replace and we won't find it easy to replace 8 first team players.
Lustic. Bitton. Hayes. Gamboa. Gordon. Dembele. roberts will go anyway. So we need to replace 4 first team. Then Armstrong will want to go so we need 5.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Feb 2018 23:23:55
Everton replaced near enough a whole team last summer and it was a disaster . They then changed their manager and still they are a lot worse than last season .
No manager that was interested in club would make so many changes and I am sure B Rodgers isn't such a fool .

28 Feb 2018 07:37:31
Chris, look at your first line.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Feb 2018 12:53:09
Chris BR would be a bigger fool to keep the players i mentioned to sell, most of them are bit players or injury prone. A good, shrewd, interested manager would not go back to CL / EL with the same players, time to clean out Delia's old wood and hit refresh button. If we sell the players that i mentioned it wouldn't even impact the full team apart from GK. I Get your drift about replacing a whole team though, that's a bit extreme.

I can sleep well tonight in the knowledge that ypf has nothing to do with squad selection at Celtic .

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Mar 2018 13:39:01
@Chris
The post never mentioned selection, just a bhoys personal opinion on who should stay and who should be sold / freed up to bring in new blood.

Let me put another way, do you have any thought's on any players(s) that should be released or sold on? That was the basis of the post.

Not Celtic related as such, except that our German friends St Pauli, could be reinstating their local derbies with Hamburg, who boast "the club has never been relegated" they even have a giant clock in the Hamburg stadium to "prove" this, sadly this year time looks to have caught up with them as they are 7 points from the third bottom team in the Bundeliga.
Maybe Hamburg could loan this magic clock to Sevco to turn back time, on "tick" of course lol.

Just seen that disgraceful tackle on Broony from yesterday. A new guy on the park seven minutes tries to remove his knee from his shin. Being honest, it looked like he might have been told to if given half a chance.

It is so high, so dangerous and career threatening that it must be at least 5-7 games. From a guy whon that morning could not pick broony from a line up. Hmm.

Believable7 Unbelievable6

26 Feb 2018 16:15:13
My thoughts exactly GJ, the lad who's new to Scottish football would not have went in like that unless he'd been told to.
Pathetic Macinnes and his bottle merchants don't deserve their league position.
Title race? What title race?

Agree2 Disagree3

26 Feb 2018 18:09:28
The way Brown handled the situation was class! Years ago he would have lashed out. Leads by example, sets a standard that the younger players can look upon.

Agree1 Disagree2

26 Feb 2018 18:21:33
The reaction will go down in Celtic folklore; however, the fact a player was sent on to do a fellow professional harm/ injury will never be brought to account and highlights how certain Celtic players have been targeted by violent tackles (often unpunished) on a weekly basis.

26 Feb 2018 19:47:49
When honest mistakes can't help? When financial difficulties are too far?

Mame the players! It's been happening for months now . Tierney a few times per game n the refs obviously haven't been to spec savers!

They cannot allow 7/ 8! That tribute act will go bust trying, then the bubble is burst . Even wee lenny is pointing out how refs are hampering other teams .

Must protect the golden child n stop the 10 before the tribute act goes under 🙈.

It says a lot about the calibre of the men who are managing Some of our SPL teams injuring our players seem to be part of the tactics of the Aberdeen manager
Only a couple of weeks ago Steve Clarke ensured that the Killie pitch was prepared in such away that it was dangerous especially for players who don't play on artifical pitches often. We lost 2 players through injury in a 10 min period in first half .
It's bad enough that SPL teams can use artifical pitches but if the SPFL are ever going to exercise any control in football they should ensure that ruthless cheats like Clarke are allowed to create a dangerous surface which is a great leveller.

The look on Madden's face when KT scored was priceless! Another hurting hun. The book would be thrown at Brown if he was lunging in like that. No title race that they and the daily rags yearned for. 10 in a row full steam ahead.

It never ceases to amaze me the reportage of football in this country. Yesterday was the start of a slide, a Celtic there for the taking. We would be shattered by the 'mauling', one word i heard used when it was hardly that, in Russia.

Being honest i was expecting a tougher game. The reason it was not was down to one man, McInnes. How on earth Aberdeen fans have not seen through this guy is a mystery, almost as big as why he gets such an easy ride in the press.

Which brings me back to the press. When McInnes was roundly gubbed by sevco it was a great performance by the pretendy gers. When we beat them? The Aberdeen players get the stick! Never the manager, who's team selection was baffling to me, never the boss.

Maybe the rumour of McInnes to sevco in the summer might have legs?

Believable5 Unbelievable2

26 Feb 2018 16:39:56
Murty has proven to be better than McIness at every turn so if he goes to Rangers good luck to him. Won't make any difference in fact will make Rangers worse.

Agree1 Disagree1

26 Feb 2018 19:13:49
McIness does not play football against the teams he fears, he wait's till he's being beating or plays late on in the second half then his team tries to put up a show, surprised the sheep have not sussed him yet. Murty is shrewd, ( and the person behind him who we can't see but we have an idea who it is) , Murty knows it takes physical players to play spl, but he also know's he's no match for a good tic team, so a draw is a great result for him in the past games, but now the chips are down and seasons end is coming he needs to show his hand and play to win. HH.

Agree1 Disagree1

26 Feb 2018 19:49:22
@YPF We all know Smith is the man guiding Murty, he has even admitted it this season and hinted at it last season.

Agree2 Disagree1

27 Feb 2018 11:24:48
Could Smith guide Murty? Unlikely as Rangers don't seem to have the money to out spend on players more than every other club. Therefore Smith has nothing to offer

However maybe the Close money is being used illegally to pay the Chinese and EPL bound players and keep them happy at Ibrox to the summer .
You can't rule anything out at Rangers 2012 as they have quite a few Board Members from Rangers 1872.

Scott Brown retires the International Football. Well thank god for that.
He gets abuse at every away ground from fellow Scots. Stuff them.
He'll go down in history as one of our greatest Captains and the Country's lose is our gain.
Just look at his performance yesterday, the rest of Team know what a Leader he is. He's probably out Training today with just a Vest and Shorts on! We need to enjoy him now because he'll be a very hard Man to replace.
"Let's all do the Broony".

Just watched the highlights again and cannot take the smile off my face
The win was so satisfying, but when you add the bravado of Broony after they tried to hauf him in two, the face of dirty Madden, when KT scored and the bitter, bitter wee nyaff McInnes greetin into his beard, with a nonsensical summary of play.
It's enough to make your heart go - oh - oh - oh - oh! HH.

Lustig has been a great servant and true Celt; just watch his reaction after the triple defensive blocks yesterday and you see what it means to him to do well, trying to help the team.
Unfortunately, he has had a torrid time of it this season, especially in Europe and has lost confidence, timing and pace and I hope the lay off can at least help bring a couple of those qualities back?

Your mate has a very queer sense of humour .
I would prefer to post an appreciation of the great service Lustig has given us.
I would also take the opportunity to tell Lustig that I was looking forward to more good years from him for Celtic .

The same old story for some " smart - arse" Celtic fans pick on one and keep at it until some clever fans posts that this player has lost his confidence .
Remember Ambrose, laughed at and abused until he could take it no more from Celtic fans .
Ambrose signed for Hibs and is now once again one of the best centre defenders in SPL.

You are worse than your mate as you publicised this nonsense . We as a club will be very lucky to get as good a right back as Lustig, and if stupid remarks like your mates is the way we thank him, then it doesn't say much for some fans .
