Use our rumours form to send us celtic transfer rumours.

Some very interesting themes emerging!

Has RD actually won a big match during his tenure?
Is our captain as positively influential as we would like? If SB was embarrassed by the performance, was he embarrassed after ten twenty forty or eighty minutes or did he arrive at this conclusion in retrospect? What did he do as captain to reverse this embarrassing performance?
Is RD building a better and more sustainable and dependable defence? My gut feel says we are weak and vulnerable and all players who vie for the back 4 positions are under pressure and don't look too sure about themselves or each other!
When did johanssen develop in to such n indifferent player who is horribly error prone?
Has GMSs body been hijacked by the ghost of Brian McLaughlin?
What do management see in ciftci that we fans cannot see?

I watched a pressing and free flowing celtic at the tail end of last season. What happened to us? We are regressing?

It can turn around. Sure it can. But if there is an undercurrent of frustration or annoyance then the future could be very bleak! Unity is pivotal. It's togetherness that makes an average group of players outperform expectations.

But a low in confidence and disheveled team on constant rotation who are average to begin with could spell disaster

We need to settle on eleven to fourteen players and start building some fluidity. If RD cannot see this then he is the wrong man for the job I'm afraid.

Our next game will give us a flavour of RDs thinking and the players attitude.

We don't even press anymore and in the last half dozen domestic matches we go off the boil for huge chunks of the game and RD doesn't seem to know how to change it

The transfer window closing will leave us in no uncertain terms about where we are at, and where we are heading.

No point speculating on the future but it seems that all players and management are back to square 1 with a lot to prove. Those who want to love of last season's good work are of no use.

We deserve ( at the very least) players who are hungry and focused

Hi Paradise, I agree and have posted similar, myself.
The team seem to have gone backwards in fitness, cohesion and confidence and as for (basic) defending?.
This high pressing - slick tempo game has become a myth.

If RD needs a few months each season to get the team (and himself) up to speed, then there is something very wrong.
We were all enjoying the confident run-in to last season and the players apparently looked and played with a freshness and flair that has gone right out the window.
The season started very early for us - so most players could not have slipped into old habits and lost fitness/confidence so quickly, so what else is wrong at the club?

There is no doubt we lack the quality of days gone by, but Tuesday was unforgivable because of the lack of effort, desire and fight. We had a foot in the group stages and promptly slipped on our jacksie, courtesy of a hard working, determined - but average team; so what have we become?

I think when we get too negative we can contradict ourselves . Celtic teams under Deila are a bit predictable , yet we complain about constant rotation . Hindsight is very valuable aid to complaining, nobody complained after he made wholesale changes and rested almost the whole team last Saturday at Dundee Utd . I don't think that contributed much to Tueday's nights performance. To confine ourselves to 11-14 players in a season of probably about 65 games would be very strange .
I agree 100% with you when you say all players who vie for the back four are under pressure about themselves and their colleagues .
I don't think it takes the world's best football genius to work out why that is . It could be the constant abuse some of our back four have suffered from our fans at games and on our forums . Terms like " bombscares " might seem very smart to some but when backed up by fans in the stands doesn't help those at the receiving end .
We are where we are , and either we get behind Deila and all the players or else we are going to be in for very tough times indeed .
I think that usually Celtic adopt tactics to stop our European opponents but Malmo done to us what we have done and targeted our strengths to neutralise them and our weaknesses to exploit them .

Good post PW as usual. We need to be honest with ourselves this free flowing football and high pressing game has only worked maybe 15-20% of the time RD has been here, and its always been against SPFL opposition.
That is of no use to us, he was brought in get CL football period.
I have always been of the belief a good manager gets the best out of players, RDs way seems to be play MY system no matter what type of player you are.
The perfect example of this is Armstrong. We pay a lot of money for him (rightly so as he a good player) and he gets played wide. Why are we buying a central midfield player for that position its crazy.

I think on of our biggest problems on Tuesday night was either we didn't play our high pressing game or else we were not allowed to play it .

However the fact that in the last minute of the first game and twice in the second game we allowed an average team , not known for any brilliant ability in the air to score from 3 straight forward corners . I blame our big reasonably experienced centre defender Virgil for those concessions. We made it too easy for them . In addition Brown Biton Johannson Griffith and Commons in the second half didn't come near getting the better of their immediate opponent . In addition to Virgil ineffectiveness at corners , how in the name of Jesus was our other centre half evolved in kicking the ball off the line and into his own goals . Surely he should have been "manning up"" to their attack and trying to clear the ball. Deila should be chewing the b. s of who was supposed to be their . Now if he hadn't nominated some one, that's another fine mess he put us into .

What I am trying to say is we played shoite the whole game but we could have got away with it if we had defended what should have been easy , straight forward corners when we had the height advantage .

Taking into account the league we play in the TV money attracting good players to the club etc I strongly believe we are getting little back for our loyal support over the last number of years. I'm not talking crazy money and getting into debt but sometimes as a football club you have to take a gamble, how many times year in year out coming into transfer seasons we got nothing but over the top speculation, Desmond needs to come out and tell us his ambition if any for our club, as long as this goes on we will continue to decline. Maybe something in the form of an official boycott to leg the board know our feelings etc, through the supporters clubs done in a small way to start off. We need a supporters debate about what to do. Last night after the game Neil lennon was put on the spot, why he left the club etc he more or less said we were selling our best players etc. back shortly

Believable4 Unbelievable2

27 Aug 2015 15:29:19
The reason we sell our best players is because ,when English teams start showing an interest the wages factor takes over.No footballer in their right mind would knock back the money on offer down south and that applies to anyone on this site in employment. As I have said in previous posts this is scottish football,at present a backwater and laughed at,so who can blame them for wanting to leave. As big as celtic are,we just can't compete.killy.

26 Aug 2015 22:15:29
Don't quite know how to put this , Celtics way of working over the last 5-10 years is we will buy decent players ££££ IF we get into the champions league should it not be buy decent players TO get us into the champions league!! And even if we did win last night and got in did anyone think we would go out and spend big money I for one think not celtic are a business first and foremost in the eyes of dermot and Peter and are taking the best supporters in the world for granted . We go into the Europa league now and to be quite honest that's our level if we can not beat the Swedish champs can you imagine what a barca or a bayern or even a Real Madrid would do to us I love those cl nights more than any1 but time to be realistic!!!

I just wondered what people thought of Andy Walkers comments on Sky this morning.
He said that Celtic have better players than Malmo, but the difference between the teams was that their manager was able to comes up with a plan to win the tie where as our manager didn't have the tactical knowledge to compete.
He also said that a lot of our fans have been hoodwinked into thinking that we have an exceptional manager, when in truth any manager in the SPL would win the league with our players, and with our resources.
I have been thinking about this a lot today, and although I really want to back the manager, when you look at our European results under Ronny, it's quite hard to argue that he has a point.

I never really take pundits opinions seriously but he is spot on with this

Agree3 Disagree1

26 Aug 2015 21:46:50
I've said something similar, Malmö manager changed things in 2nd half of 1st leg, and had solid plan for 2nd leg, we never, same set up with a couple of changes in personnel, that arguably weekend the team.
That been said, I've never bought into the hype surrounding Rd, but I've warmed to him, think we have to keep him (providing we get league & at least a cup) because what he's trying to do, can't be done in a couple of seasons, but football fans are fickle, and run out of patience quickly.

Agree1 Disagree1

26 Aug 2015 22:01:46
If he said this then as I indicated further down to teams managed by 2 Norwegians , 2 swedes in each team , 2 Norwegians in each team, bit of a far contest IMO we have more resources they were further into there season

But RD out thought/witted/foxed by a much more experienced manager last night at half time we offered no change / no plan B

So agreed with Bigbhoy never pay much attention but there mileage in that being said

But Bigbhoy you are going to need to do something about that Mark Warburton lookalikey avatar mate :=D

Andy walker even though people mite not want accept it,is totally spot on with his comments! U give Mcinnes neilson McNamara Hartley or any other young Scottish manager our squad and budget and they would win the league and odd cup! U just can't argue with that! our whole focus is on CL! We went out twice last year and we put it down to rd just comin in! But to again go out this year, and the manner in which we went out! It was with a whimper! No urgency no shots on goals no goalmouth scrambles tryin to get back in it! It really is worrying! And he's also right when he says man for man we're better than malmo! But I don't think by much! I've watched teams come to Celtic park,Astra d Zagreb Salzburg quarabag Maribor! Not teams with world class players but every one of them gave us a lesson on passing and keeping compact and not getting flustered! Watch all these games back and u'll see what I mean! A certain points in all those games we've been chasing shadows! But when we get the ball everything is rushed and we can't even make 10 yard passes! There's no guile or savvy from us! It's all rushing about trying to get rid of the ball as fast as we can! I'm not asking for the manager to get sacked or anything like that! But he must deliver the treble and get out the EL group! And I was a bit confused with his comments about the CL being everything in Scotland and that pressure makes it harder for the players! I'm sorry but his remit is to get us to CL group stages! If the players can't handle the pressure of going to face Malmo needing only a draw to get through then they shouldn't be here!

im not saying he's a great manager but the usual bias towards the huns is unbelievable. We went out and supposedly got a young fresh manager with modern ideas to training . He's had a decent enough season last year and probably should have had a treble. ( hardly any praise from the hacks). The Huns go out and get in their new manager with what seems like the same traits and he's praised to the rooftops by McCann and so on after a petrofac cup win and a few wins in the championship against teams they should be beating. Makes me cringe how up their arse they are. Hard to believe McCann used to support us before he went to the dark side

The problem is there's not a plan b never changes the formation always 451 so any opposition already know what way we are gonae play a would like to see us play 352

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Aug 2015 23:23:47
That's not entirely true. We have gone 2 up top in games. The problem now is do we have 2 strikers and if we play them that means taking Johansen out of his best position.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2015 23:38:45
What good is it being 2 nil up and then draw or lose goals which we do now at an alarming rate a good manager will protect the lead at 2 nil keep it tight and then hit on counter attack were getting found out des mate

27 Aug 2015 00:03:22
Quin please forget about the huns, sit down and relax, and put them out of your mind,do not pay any attention to what a team in the lower divisions is doing, think about what is happening at Celtic,Ronnie has to concentrate on winning the europa league now,and why not?forget all these doommongers we have the players to go all the way,its up to Ronnie ,he is the one whose performance has been the most pathetic, all he has to do is start acting like a football manager who knows what he is doing.

Agree0 Disagree1

27 Aug 2015 00:19:44
it is an extreme rarity to play two strikers. As for Johanssen he is very poor and needs to be taken out of that position. He consistently gives the ball to the opposition

What do you want Dermot Desmond to do?

If I'm not mistaken DD would have to issue another shares right to invest further money in the club.

What desmot dermond needs to do old bhoy is tell us fans what his ambitions are for our club if he's want to just win the spl with mediocre players then let us know and drop the prices to go watch the likes of Inverness and Ross county

Agree3 Disagree0

26 Aug 2015 21:50:03
Don't think its a case of mediocre players, the blame lies fairly and squarely at Ronnies door, there are very good players at Celtic getting slaughtered now by supporters
but how are they supposed to develop any understanding as a team unit when Ronnie is obsessed with squad rotation,he should have played the team he was going to use against Malmo at the weekend and the weekend before that(Ciftci should just sit out his suspension,is crazy bringing him in for Euro games and disrupt the team),Ronnie is treating players like automotons instead of people.every one of us of a certain age can real of the lisbon team, because that team played regularly together and maybe another four who were used regularly as subs, they played regularly and got to know each others way of playing, making nine changes for the Inverness game was ridiculous.

Agree0 Disagree1

27 Aug 2015 06:47:35
I agree with a lot of what's been said above. Ronny in no way is completely blameless in this, same goes for john Collins. People critise RD and rightly so but what about JC? What does he bring to the table? As for dermot Desmond, I agree with the post above, everyone to a man knows he's the top dog at Celtic park so any major decisions coming out of Celtic park I'd imagine go through him first so is it not time he comes out and let's the fans know on a European level where he sees Celtic? What his aspirations for Celtic at a European level are? Maybe then we could all try understand what's been happening these last few years. I'm sick fed up hearing Lawell etc telling anyone who'll listen we're a champions league club with a champions league stadium with champions league fan base. Defo got the stadium, got the best fan base in the world as far as I'm concerned but as for the team. We'll the European results speak for themselves!

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2015 08:45:02
Walker was a good player for us, but there are a few ex-Celts, like him on SLY who seem to get paid to criticise and belittle anything Celtic - and this is a common SLY policy.

What I will say about the opposing managers in the Malmo tie, was the wily old Malmo guy seemed to psych out RD in every department and even intimidated him.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2015 11:20:55
In all honesty I don't even think we are a good Europa league team. Look at the teams already in the draw how many would we actually beat comfortably. (Not many) We and the board need to realise we are no longer a big club and prices should be dropped accordingly. Having a 60k stadium is well and good but y only ever have it half full. Cut prices and get some bums on seats which will boost the club.
As for the board they need to have a hard look at where they want the club to be in 5 yrs time as at this rate we will end up like Motherwell or partick. If they want the club on the global stage they need to invest in the squad as you have to speculate to accumulate. The last 4 yrs we have dropped so far in standards on the pitch when we should have been strengthening knowing we had the chance of CL every year with no real competition!!

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Aug 2015 00:34:42
I didn't know Celtic fans wanted to go and watch other SPL teams . Am I right in thinking that Dermot Desmond cannot hold a bigger % of Celtic shares without buying the whole club . That may not be a good idea for us in the long run . Fergus McCann tried to set up the ownership so that one man couldn't own the club . If the other shareholders agreed he could loan the club money ,but that could cause problems and disagreements between major shareholders down the line .
I think the best way for him to do is to create a situation where the fans are happy to pay more per season .

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2015 19:37:01
Forgive me if I'm living in the past but when Martin o,Neil was manager he got £30 million to go get the likes of hartson,Sutton,Lennon etc if you look at other teams 15 years ago they've all kicked on and got better so why have the board made us go backwards

Believable2 Unbelievable1

26 Aug 2015 20:34:53
I think you will find that although O'Neil spent a lot of money , he didn't spend £30m .
At that time Celtic had the spending power of a mid table EPL team . Now Celtic's spending power is roughly the equivalent of a mid table Div 1 team .
This is not Celtic's fault rather the affect of EPL Sky and sponsorship deals , added to the long term austerity in Scotland .
O'Neil's spending very nearly brought Celtic under financially and it took cost cutting throughout the WGS and Lennon reigns to bring the finances under control .

Agree2 Disagree1

26 Aug 2015 20:56:02
If the figures branded about that we made nearly £60 million from champions league and selling players then why not for one season go and gamble £15 million of that for a couple of half decent players, what springs to mind is the juventus game a couple of years ago it's as if Desmond was just happy to be in the last 16 instead of trying to go one better

Hi all saying I am totally gutted is an understatement we were total gash last night. can't pin point on who is to blame THE BOARD? RD? or THE PLAYERS? or all of the above. One thing is for sure we will have to sort this out now before we go any further backwards the rest of the SPL teams are not that much far behind us and that is why average teams in Europe like Malmo can beat us over 2 legs no real investment no plan B no fight in the team defending on set pieces is a joke Sorry just letting of some steam

Believable1 Unbelievable0

26 Aug 2015 20:39:22
If our manager and players cannot beat a team like Malmo without investment , then I wouldn't trust the manager with much investment .

But does anyone else think the tougher group we get the in the europa league the better.

We could have

Napoli
Celtic
Fenerbache
Southampton

Would be a good group to watch.

I'm not buying that we will win the europa league but we will only get better by playing the tougher teams

Can anyone imagine Big Jock , Billy McNeill or even MON putting a team on the pitch in a vital European game that was scared of the opposition. Seriously!!.

Never mind the tactical deficiencies this is a catastrophic failure of man management. I suspect this will create a split now between the coaching staff and the players. He basically publically called them out as cowards

Believable2 Unbelievable1

26 Aug 2015 19:48:08
We as fans complain when a manager comes out and says something completely different from what the fans witness over 90 mins. Personally I feel ronny has probably held back in saying how he really felt. Whilst I admit he isn't completely faultless those players to a man last night were a disgrace to the jersey, even Broonies the club captain says he was embarrassed! That tells it's own story. The bottom line is that performance last night was nothing short of a disgrace!

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Aug 2015 19:49:19
Correct

I believe there has been a split behind the scenes for sometime especially with Collins and rd they seem to be on different pages at press conferences

Commons out already to dispel the fear factor a player for sometime that seems to have underlying issues with rd

On that front I met commons playing golf after the quarabag game. Rd stays at the course I jokingly said he should stop by for his dinner. He drew his eyes never thought much of it but starting to think there is no love lost between the 2

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2015 19:51:04
Read what Chris Commons says. According to Commons The players didn't know whether to try and defend the 3-2 lead or try to score and kill off the game? So he says in the Daily Record? So didn't RD tell them exactly what the game plan was or do they not listen to him? Just thought it was a strange comment to make?

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Aug 2015 20:16:56
My point it is alright being honest about the failings, however it is his job to have the players motivated. If they were scared and stressed then they were not properly prepared. A scared team us the managers responsibility

I don't think RD accused the players of being scared or afraid of Malmo, it was the occasion more than the other team. At least that's how I read it.

Big Jock sent out a team in the European Cup final completely unprepared for the task in hand . The team was slaughtered all over the pitch and lost the game in injury time . The players and most of the fans blamed big Jock , but his head wasn't demanded .

Question to all, As I have said in previous post berget was the best player in both legs. But the thing I noticed about him was that he run himself into the ground and came off the park totally knackered. None of our players looked liked this. WHY? Is it because they never gave enough or is it as simple as they don't believe in he manager.

Believable4 Unbelievable3

26 Aug 2015 17:13:59
Stirring it again rayman. You must have been jumping for joy when we went out last night. Gunning for a manager only in the job 14 months. Some diddies calling for Lambert to get the job last night. RD was only missed the treble last season after a terrible refereeing decision but that obviously is not good enough for some.

Agree4 Disagree2

26 Aug 2015 17:53:28
DesH are you for real? 12 months ago RD said, " judge me in 12 months time". It's now that time. We can't defend, can't pass, can't score and have won 3 out of 11 In Europe? For the majority those results and performances are not good enough and get a grip of yourself saying Rayman would have been overjoyed at Celtic going out. He is one of us a supporter and despite his views of comments deserves more respect than accusations like that. Disappointed in your comment don't think it was required. Unless RD changes how we set up these results in Europe will keep coming and he will go, in the meantime the damage that is being done in terms of financial loss is going to have a knock on effect so no one, not even you can condone this.

Agree2 Disagree2

26 Aug 2015 18:05:17
Hold on here, There is blame here and it has to be shared EQUALLY around! Whether or not you were a NL fan clearly he seen the "writing on the wall" and knew there was to be an element of short changing/downsizing coming our way

RD has grown on me, he is a clever gifted speaker but last night on that touchline he never had an answer again last night he never had a plan B!

I think that a point last year he knew he was not getting as much out of them as he wanted fitness wise and settled because results started to go our way!

I agree he is nowhere near being in danger of losing his job because of the comfort zones/relationship he enjoys with the hierarchy

I actually said to Rayman a month ago a doubted we would get through and he was buoyant but things are getting harder and it is US FOLKS! that is getting short changed

The business model has changed IMO and that plan NOW is working and anticipation of NOT getting CL football and that is the sad part! ATVB JB7

26 Aug 2015 18:08:43
Mate I merely pointing out the bleeding obvious. I have never called for RD to be sacked once. If you have ever read my posts since last season I have never been convinced of him. I remain of the same opinion.
No matter what he plays this system even when it doesn't work.
We press and some SPFL can get thro this, so can u imagine what any decent European team can do to us. Well u saw it last night and Malmo are cannon fodder as European teams go.
No point repeating it all as lots of posts have mentioned our weaknesses, but this guy has NOT won 1 big game.

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Aug 2015 18:10:16
Terrible decisions cost Lenny the chance of the treble as well yet people called for his sacking. The fear about RD is that no matter the results or performances he will rigidly stick to his system when the flaws in it are plain to see. If he is to stay at Celtic he will need to become more adaptable and less naive in his tactics. if he can do this then great but I fear that he won't. the first thing he should do is be honest enough to recognise that Johanssen is not up to the task this season

Why does everyone keep defending Deila. Yeah Lawell and Desmond have given him little money to spend but teams like Malmo have a fraction of the budget we have.

Not to mention this is the third time in a year that we have been knocked out of the champions league by a mediocre teams at best. Just because he had a good half a season in SCOTTISH FOOTBALL does'nt make him Celtic standard. The fact is that he is a poor manager and way out of his depth here. Altering players eating habits and playing attacking football doesn't change that. Ffs Tony Mowbary played attacking football.

26 Aug 2015 18:55:26
RD is an Articulate Man, but he is not the Man for Celtic at this level,he has consistently played the same formation for the past 2 campaigns and it has not worked,he has to stick with his system, because he does not have the tactical experience or nouse to change. I also think that some of the players really have had enough of the nievitey of the tactics.

26 Aug 2015 19:14:26
Now is not the time to replace our manager. He at least deserves the chance to show us an impressive Europa League. If we go for a new head coach it should be the second the season ends with a full pre-season in front. IF that happens, I hope Celtic keep RD as football development man and punt JP.

26 Aug 2015 19:29:50
Most teams in world football play the Rd system it wasn't the systems fault it was the players showing a distinct lack of composure they looked tense they couldn't even make a ten yard pas passes out wide made the wide man stop to have to collect the ball halting the attacks and allowing malmo to regroup if you aren't given finds to by quality you get what was served up last night it is time to realise we are a mediocre European team in a mediocre league we can't attract quality anymore every signing is a gamble? It's just the level we find ourselves

Yea Jamie your right I was upbeat about it, it was Malmo ffs.
The thing is Lennon only spent 1-2m on players as well. But its not about lennon its about Deila. RD has had the same budget roughly but has bought badly. Lennon got VVD 2m. Matthews free, Wanyama 1m, Wilson free, Ledley free, Hooper 2m and Forster 2m etc. All quality players.
RD is buying works in progress as he says, the problem is they aren't the work in progress HE is.
As an earlier poster said RD himself last year after Maribor asked us to judge him a year on. Well Ronny I judge u now as u asked and your not good enough to manage our team end of.

Rayman mate, you are going to get teams that are much further into there season mate then we are and that is another factor!

Looking at it last night what did you have if you were looking at it as a neutral or even a Norwegian say

2 teams managed by Norwegians , 2 Norwegians in the each team , 2 swedes in each time to me it was balanced a fair fight but after the first game there was a journo who said "these 2 managers" don't like each other and a think he was right! Surely the BIG alluring factor was what RD was to bring fitness wise? Well a don't really see it now if am honest! after the game the Malmo manager slagged our fitness! In May he said "Malmo were better than Celtic" well he was right even before they were paired the other night!

But let's not kid ourselves here we offered nothing last night and if the remit is now to buy "rough diamonds" our players with a "sell on factor" we are going to get this MOST of the time we either get used to it or change the plan mate (Y)

I said same thing last night, very good reflex shot stopper but cross balls? Dear oh dear. I would retain Gordon, fisher, Janos, VVD, Biton and Armstrong. I would give Johnson and griffiths until Xmas to improve and jury out on mackay Steven and Allan.

How unfi/ past it is Commons? The game last night was too fast for him.
Fan of Lustig but too unfit.
Cifti will never be a celtic player,

Assuming VVD is away, my team for sat would be Gordon, Janko, tierney, O'Connell and Boyata (only because he has a 4 year deal) Biton and Johnson holding with rogic, Armstrong and Allan behind griffiths. If it's too narrow and we need width then turn to forest or Mackey Steven.

The rest of them including our captain can go for me. Clear out, young, hungry, players. And spend a wee bit extra (no laughing) on a centre forward.

The treble should be a minimum requirement to make the season of note,

AngelGabriel I agree and it's refreshing to see a poster who can see that Scott Browns time at the club has well came and gone. It's time for us to move on as a team but we never will with this chancer in the middle of the park. Bet he can't believe his luck for the club he's at, the wages he's on and for what he brings to the squad in football ability in return(Sweet FA).

The only players I would retain are.

Gordon
Baily
Izzy(Back up LB only)
Ambrose(Back up CB)
Janko
Henderson
Fisher
Griffiths(Domestic only and back up)
Forrest(Maybe)
McGregor
Scott Allan(Can't judge him yet)
Rogic
Bitton
Virgil(But he's off anyway)
Lustig(If he can stay fit)
O'Connell
Tierney

On top of this we need to bring in one or two very decent goal scoring strikers, a LW, CAM, RW, LB and two CBs. Perhaps another RB. That's the reality.

But the rest can all go. They simply have to if we are to get better and move forward as a club on the park. That means Scepovic, Boeriggter, Mulgrew, Brown, Cifcti, Armstrong, GMS, Stokes, Johansen, Commons, Boyata ALL need to go.

This is what bugs me most about our supporters, we find a couple of guys in the team & slag them rotten , and blame them for everything.
why was izzy dropped last night, why didn't we start with 4-4-2 to change things a bit and pack out the midfield with mulgrew in there? There's numerous questions that could be asked, anyone could have picked our team & set up last night, except the right back position.

So who is to blame for our poor European form?.
DERMOT DESMOND our "absentee owner" who communicates with Ronnie by telephone but offers no solid backing, for a billionaire he has simply not invested in Celtic FC
PETER LAWWELL seems only interested in furthering his own career within FIFA/UEFA etc. again has not given the manager sufficient funds to really strenghten team for CL. His strategy is sell for as much as he can get but buy as cheaply as he can. Every now and then he will come up with an "appeasemnet signing" latest being Scot Allen and then fill fans heads with platitudes and promises of "big money signings which never materialise"
RONNIE DEILA it is ok banning fizzy drinks and burgers from club menu, but he has resided over our last 2 embarrassing european campaigns, Legia, Maribor and Malmo he has embarrassed our great club, his tactics in european games is poor, he does not seem to try and rectify basic mistakes like poor passing or positioning during these games, as the same blatant errors keep occurring. He had the last word on signing scepovic, a player who did not want to come to us but yet we squandered £2.5m on a lazy disinterested player.
THE PLAYERS some are not of sufficient quality (we could all name them all) others seem to lack for want of a better word "bottle" as seen last night and last season also, we need more stronger mentality players as well as skilfull ones, even Delia looked nervous last night and last week also.
US THE FANS we are also to blame as we still buy our season tickets, buy club merchandise etc when we know Lawwell and the board are short changing us, most fans know we cannot go back to the days of spending £6m plus on a Sutton or a Hartson, but we want proper investment made in the team. Until we stop buying club merchandise and tickets the board will simply go on their merry way quoting "look at what happened to Sevco" but we are NOT THEM and simply want decent thought out proper costed investement in our great club.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

26 Aug 2015 16:29:54
All of the above although DD,PL and RD are really to blame. And btw why are the days when we could sign a 6m player gone? There are very few (if any) good tacklers in the team.
Sure there are a couple of headless chickens and sand dancers, but not a ball winner or 'midfield general' for that matter.
Also the manager(s) has neglected to fill key positions like left back, striker and winger - to the standard we expect.

I have expressed my thoughts on Deila on separate posts and I really think he still does not know how big a job this is.
He still looks like a scared rabbit when the going gets tough and his substitutions/tactics seem to be sheer guesswork.

The club will not spend £6m on a player, but previous managers, have shown that with better scouting and an eye for a bargain gets results:- Nakamura, Larsson, Lubo, Petrov, Di Canio, Wanyama, Weighorst, Rieper and many more.

There are players at the club who have alarmingly went backwards like Commons, Stokes, Izzaguire and Mulgrew; while others like Boerigter, Scepovic, Ambrose and Balde were never good enough in the first place.
So as you have written Tim, there is cause for concern.

26 Aug 2015 20:54:07
Before last night, the most common post was about the "bombscare" Ambrose and the shoite defender Izzy . Now we our out of the Champions League we can look how we exited it . It wasn't the bombscare or the shoite defender, but it was our star player Deila , our towering Centre half Virgil , who took Bitton out for the second goal in the first leg . Plastic night he was completely missing when the two corners came across . Of course last night almost all ten outfield players had poor performances . I don't think one of them came off the pitch tired . If we have more nights as ineffective as last night , I am sure we will all demand changes .

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2015 15:14:10
So under Ronny I have been watching as a season ticket holder for 2 years. I think we have stalled a little and I though that at the starjnan game.

It only needs a small tweak in my opinion in europe only.

We need to resort to 3 centre halves, and wing backs.

Izzy/Janko/GMS/Forrest can easily adopt to these wing back roles. Then they have the security that we are tighter with 3 centre halves.

This would allow us to play 3 in midfield, then we can have an attacking midfielder and a striker.

Ideally the following:

Gordon

Lustig, VVD, Boyata

Janko/Forrest GMS/Izzy
Bitton, Brown, Johannson

Attacking Midfielder

Forward

5-3-2 attacking formation. It would allow us to be tighter at the back but allow the wingbacks to go for it when the opportunity arises.

Lol VVD will need replaced as we all know he's away I think his head was in the clouds because of it! We need a route 1 option target man even a loan and maybe develop the youths but I think the transfer situation wouldn't have changed only the excuse for not investing! Instead of we tried but can't afford the wages it will be we have to cover the loss of CL earnings!

26 Aug 2015 14:43:08
Still very upset and disappointed and hardly slept last night and got up at 6am with a CL hangover -
The joys of loving Celtic.
The manager will not be sacked, but he will have to take a long hard look at his methods and tactics as it is obvious we have not improved.
Yes, it's tough to play 3 qualifiers at the start of a season, but he maintained we were fit and ready and had no excuses. We don't want excuses - we want the players to play in this high tempo, slick, attacking style you promised, but have not delivered.

So fearful of the tie, he rested, almost a full team at Tannadyce and every one of them, with the exception of Gordon and Forrest were absolutely rotten.
The damage may have been done in the first leg with all those mistakes, but we still held an advantage and needed to defend properly and score an away goal.
Epic Fail.

Now we have the EL with the 'bonus' of Sunday SPL fixtures, where we play catch up with any rivals and have another go at the elusive treble and to be honest it's hard at the minute to feel enthusiastic.
VVD will be offski soon and then we can perm any four from Lustig, Ambrose, Boyata, Janko, Mulgrew and Izzy - with Tierney and O'Connor?
Our rivals are rubbing their paws.

It really doesn't matter if we do sign anyone else before the end of the 'window' as the signings up to now haven't set the heather on fire and it's a bit late for token gestures from a patronising board.

Sort it out soon RD as you're in danger of becoming a 'Swede' (Tumshie)

I know that we are all hurting from last night. Allowing a few hours to pass and thinking about the game ( it's all I have thought about since last night) I know Ronnie will not be sacked right now as he has 2 years left on his contract and PL was the one who brought him in so he probably needs Ronnie to take the flack but PL is as much to blame as Ronnie.
I hate his formation. Not because it can't work but after 12 months the players still look as if they have no idea how to break a team down if they sit in. Let's be honest.
1. We can't pass a ball forward only back or across the park. 2. We move the ball too slowly.
3. We can't defend set pieces.
4.We have no one who can open up a defence apart from Forrest ( so that tells you something).
5. Commons was scoring 25 to 30 goals a season. I know it's 2 years ago and he is older but he does not get closeany more and since Ronnie changed the way we play he just looks useless but this was a 30 goal a season player.
6. There is no passion, no fight ( apart from giving away stupid tackles).
7. We don't look organised and the gaps between the midfield and defense just leaves great big holes that decent teams just run into. I thought the idea is we all pushed up the park as a unit and squeezed the play? After a year we should understand what we are trying to do but I honestly feel the layers are not sure where they should be when the opposition have the ball.
I could go on. Since Ronnie took over the team is by and large the same as Lennon. different keeper, ledley away, but that's about it. The majority of players we signed ( June 2014) either permanent or loan players have all gone so that was a waste of time and money. Look at Berget last night he looked OK but when he played for us he was poor. Pukkie another player doing OK goal wise since he left. So we have brought in the Dundee Unt guys to add to the squad but it is basically the same squad with additions. No one fears coming to Celtic Park anymore apart from our supporters on European nights. The Ronnie experiment has failed. Nice guy but not a coach at European level. Henrik Larsson knew he was not ready for the job because he knew what he had to deliver if he took it on. Ronnie had no idea what he was taking on. I believe the ayers have not really got the confidence in the system. That is why they are scared ( according to Ronnie). Why are they scared? It can only be a lack of belief in the system.

26 Aug 2015 21:09:11
Johnnymac , I agree with all your seven points . We were too laborious getting the ball from the back four to our midfielders who too often gave the ball away and hence we didn't have any confidence and were unable to freely commit themselves into attack. Janko combined well From time to time getting in behind the full back but his inexperience and the slow build-up mean' t Malmo cut out his crosses easily .

This was a very inept performance, I don't think we saw such a performance coming .

We lost to a team we should have beat! I have many issues with what is going on with our club but I use none of them as an excuse as the team we have should have learned defensively from the previous week! Was not surprised at result last night as I predicted after home tie against Malmo.

Time for DD, PL and JP to get to hell away from our club!

They are poison and yet you will still get some idiots singing their praises!

PL is in no way a good business man! He is very clever at PR propaganda. A few big money transfers and everyone thinks he is a hero! Well if you calculate all the transfers in/out over past 5 seasons, the average annual transfer income is approximately £2m per season! Hardly cause for doing backflips in jublitation is it? Shocking business accumen if someone can not see the obvious, spend £5m to guarantee £20m CL windfall

DD the lad is simply tighter than a crabs ar$e! Sees Celtic as a cashcow now that we have absolutely no competition in SPL. Its the old pals act with him. Only time he has ever "bent the rules" to sign quality was Robbie Keane and it was only because they were on friends terms.

John Park. really don't want to ruin my day anymore.

This is our club! Not these idiots! A revolt is only way we are going to get rid of these disgusting leeches!:

1. Boycott games

And couldn't beat Malmö and make the same mistakes every euro tie. DN30,
I find your comments a bit harsh and naive.
Do you really think a 5mil.signing would guarantee CL.if that was the case it would have been done long ago.

Celtic a cash cow? Don't think so,it's. Scottish Football we're talking about, have you got any idea how much Celtic get in every year including Tv,sponsorship, gate receipts.? I don't either but you can bet it doesn't come anywhere near enough to run the club.
Do you want to go down the Sevco road? Part of the income from transfers goes to offset the cost of keeping us a healthy business.

I am hurting just as much as any Celtic supporter,I want to see us in the CL,but at the end of the day I'm a realist,we're not good enough.
You are right some changes are required but not a revolution, talk of boycott and the like is overreacting and something that should not even be considered.
Now is the time to have a proper think about where we go from here and where we can improve our effort in European competition.
So DN30, go and have a beer and calm down, sit and think positively,

Morning Ed and all,

After the dust settles and thinking long and hard at the issues we have one thing has become abundantly clear to me. The transfer policy we have is flawed, simple as that.

Let me explain, clubs with less wage expenditure and smaller turnover are producing the goods in Europe (Malmo, Basle type teams).

I understand the model of buy young sell big BUT this has to be in moderation with a few experienced international standard players. We need some experienced heads in that dressing room, we can't rely on Scott Brown all the time as the driving force in the team.

Two or three 28-32 year old experienced players on 35-40k a year isn't going to break the bank.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

26 Aug 2015 14:38:25
I agree with that celtstu, I think we need some more experienced players particularly in defence.
Whoever we get to replace Van Djik, I think it needs to be someone who can take command of things and be a good organiser.
We shouldn't be losing goals from corners the way we did against Malmo, it was really poor, at SPL level you can get away with being slack at the back, but when you play at a higher level you have to be rock solid in defence, unfortunately we never look as if we can keep a clean sheet whenever we play a team who are slightly better than we normally play.
I also felt there was a slight lack of belief in the home leg, when we led 2-0, and then 3-1, the tie was at our mercy, but we lacked the killer instinct to go and finish the tie off, it looked to me as if they couldn't believe the position we were in and tried to preserve what they had, a more confident team would have gone on and rendered the second leg meaningless.
I think this lack of belief meant that when the first goal went in last night, and we went behind in the tie, any confidence we had just evaporated and the result became a foregone conclusion.

Another shocking display last night no heart no quality and if the truth be told well beaten by at best an average team who have not a cat in hell chance of getting out of the group stage. So what has gone wrong at our club and how can it be fixed. To begin with I believe the reason this great club was founded has been lost it was always more than just about football,it was about people,it was about hope it was somewhere to go to brighten our lives. It was never meant to be a cash cow for individuals,it is clear that Dermot Desmond's only concern is in lining his own extremely deep pockets .Peter lawell is only doing his bidding and the worst part of it all is I believe under an owner who now and again would be willing to take a gamble,to give rather than take he would be excellent at his job.this club belongs to it fans who make sacrifices week in week out to give their support, the money we spend is in the hope we have a team we can be proud of,it is NOT to make people who make in a day what we make in a year richer, long after you have gone this great club and its fans will still be here,go now Dermot let someone who actually cares take the reins and the rest will take care of itself.

Hi ed have been thinking this for a while now but not totaly sure and was wondering if you had a better insight

Everytime we qualify for champions lge or make huge money on selling players or both at same time. the nxt thing the club release figures saying we only made lyk 10 m profit

I remember us maling 50m the season we beat barca and in summer sold ki wanyamm wilso and hooper 5m was spent but wer the rest go??

6months later the club release new figers for the 6 months after that saying profits are down because we didn't reach cham lge but the facts wer we still made all the money that were not use to getting

I think board members and investers are creaming this club dry.

Do you no if all the investors who bought shares all those years ago are now reaping yearly rewards totaling to millions????

Hope you have the time to read this

Cheers

Rangers had in a 3 year period done to us what you are having done over 50 years as far as I can see.

Do you remember the attendance figures in 60s? I was not blind I could see 55000 plus fans yet attendance figures thousands bellow that every game unless it was a total sell out which kind of scr*wed the bead counters

I have also noticed what one of your posters on here states that you were making millions from CL PLUS selling players on a huge profits such as Ki Wanyama Foster etc yet you profit numbers never seemed to show this.

I feel it is blatantly obvious the same scam being perpetrated as Green and his pals carried out at Rangers the difference at Ibrox was it was over such a short term and so blatant that no number cruncher on this planet could hide it from even your least sharp tack football fan.

I am not on here to gloat I am on here to point out something you lot seemed to gloss over when slagging your fellow Scots off as being unilaterally stupid/blind/thick by following these shysters like lambs to the slaughter unquestioning and naive to the core. What you fail to acknowledge and I feel has been your blindest sad judgment on us as fanatics for our football team, Rangers, is to forget that as in all matters of love it can be blind.Just because all the implications are that we are being shafted that hope and love led Bears to yes appear stupid and naive but it is not a fault loving, the fault is with the people carrying out the deception surely?

That is why I am on here now to say you lot need to get the boycott out now before Rangers come back to the SPFL. It is a far easier thing to boycott your team when he league is either 1. Relatively easy to win 2. Does not matter as much as in the lower leagues. Rangers would never have succeeded in a boycott had the SPFL title been at stake against Celtic.

I agree with your poster on here the best thing to happen for you would be Hearts winning the League (I would enjoy that for other reasons) and you get rid of current regime with the man that is attempting to manage you, he is average at best ANYONE and I actually include the worst Rangers manager in history McCoist could have won the league the last 3 years with zero credible opposition, with the possible exception of the Sheep last year.

It is a sign of how bad things are with your team that right now if questioned 99% of Rangers fans would say they would rather be us than you now. We have a semi organised support at last, the songs are starting to change to traditional positive ones and newer non bigoted songs, the board despite many doubts over King's suitability has done the correct thing invested in a talented management team having interviewed the best 5 candidates available, provided funding for clever signings from the English and Scottish leagues at sensible wages and most importantly put Rangers and the fans first not their own financial wellbeing. The current board are not receiving large wage packets and are not creaming bonuses off the top. Your board are it is the only explanation. They are also completely correct in not paying Ashley he is involved from the outset with Green and therefore potentially subject to Police investigation, who in there right mind would accept the terms of the Green/Ashley stitch up merchandise wise?

There you have it maybe now you might reflect and think you are actually following blindly yourselves and have been on the basis of trusting the board have your teams' interests at heart. Do they?

Ask yourselves this when they scoured the marketplace for a manager would you say Delilah was the best option or the cheapest option?

Well, Europa League it is. The fact remains that we still need a striker, a couple of defenders and probably a winger. Whether we will be able to get our main targets after last night is highly doubtful but we still need 3 or 4 players of decent pedigree to make a fist of the EL. If we get the right players in then our target should be last 16/8 of the EL and a domestic clean sweep.

everyone isjumping on the sack the board/ronny out wagon. however the main difference last night was that malmo wanted it and we looked like we couldn't be arsed. even brown looked bored. malmos team cost a fraction of ours yet they smashed us all over the park. first 15 mins of first leg the celtic players showed what they can do. second leg never showed up. so ronny sets out the gameplan. players concentrate and turn up = win. opposite happens = lose. ronnys fault or the lazy suckers that play in the hoops fault?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

It's ronnys fault I'm afraid bud! He's had 3 chances at getting in the CL and failed every time! If there was any hint of our players lookin bored or not up for it then at half time when we were only down by 1 and needed a goal to get through the managers job is to sort that out! If a team beats u because of quality then I hold my hands up! But to get out fought and out thought by a team of the standard of Malmo, who were no better than average imo! Then that just ain't good enough! The question is does RD deserve a 4th attempt at the CL? If he fails to get us a run in the EL and at leat the double then he has to go! Like I said,I like the guy! He's honest and open, but that doesn't make him a great manager! He's not been helped by the half wits in the board but he must carry the can for last nites shambles! It really was one of the most pathetic performances I've seen from a Celtic team! When u consider what was at stake!

There are clubs throughout europe in the same situation as us are they using money in england as an excuse??

Teams like ajax porto benfica basil amongst others qualify for champions lge MOST seasons because the spend there money strategicly better. identifing the player most suited to needs rather than cheapest fee or wages

Just seen on TV (soon to be cancelled) that rvp was sold for £3.5m why weren't we in the running for him? I know he doesn't fit the transfer policy as there is no sell on, but he was exactly what was required. The cf position needs experience especially if playing as a lone striker. I know his wages would be high but given him a deal similar to nakamuras merchandise deal would cover it. Also help put bums on seats.

I've never really thought about it before, but last night made me realise that Ronny's assistants are not going to help much in my opinion. I heard Kennedy was great with the young boys, but has no experience (just like Ronny). There was a shot of them at 2-0 and they looked like lost wee boys.

As for Collins I imagine he's like that guy at school who takes a new kid under his wing and claims he's one of the big men. Actually he's just someone who talks nonsense and has no idea.

I think we need an older and quietly effective assistant who can help and assist Ronny and has some experience. I don't know who, but among plenty other things I don't think Ronny has great guidance.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

26 Aug 2015 10:54:33
The manager is the one who comes up with the game plan and the assistant help to deliver that so its Ronny who should go as his tactics don't fit our players. No self respecting manager wants to be told what to do by an assistant, it's simple get rid of Ronny and his tunnel vision on the way to conquer Europe or start playing to the strengths of our squad. Managers get paid for making the right decisions and Ronny made several big calls in janko and Charlie and the zonal marking, ultimately he failed so it's time to move on as I have zero faith that Ronny can get past the qualifiers next season. We need to appoint a manager with experience not a good talking philosopher.

Here's a crazy idea I had when AmateurHorticulturalist took me on a sampling tour of his greenhouse. Bear with me. Or actually shoot me down just for the 'banter'.

Just reading some old news of Bolton fans setting up some sort of cash pool to sign Adam LeFondre. Now things must be as bad in the Bolton households as the Club's treasury because they raised a few grand. But Celtic?

Guessing the worldwide number of 'fans' is about as easy as guessing the Dulux colour tone of your next dump. But I think a conservative figure would be 500,000? So for arguments sake i'll just say that.

Now imagine your average working man chucked in a tenner. Then you've got your high-profile more mobey than sense bhoys. Rod Stewart could spend just one night away from a Vegas bar and chuck a few grand in. Heck if I knew it was worth it I'd throw a couple hundred in. I've spent that the past few months on polyester New Balance gear.

Now I know the obvious counter to this - 'why should we?' Well we shouldn't really. But I personally would see it as worthwhile under the current regime and environment. Just think of a player within reason you'd like and ask if you'd pay a tenner to see them in the hoops.

So, using a conservative fan base of 500k, and a rough average of 20 quid a man. My Casio reads that's £10m.

£10m every summer could get a good proven and experienced player in on a three or four year deal. After a few seasons you've got a good spine. The club could continue to use their own £2.5m ceiling to bring youth pedigree. The players bought might even turn in a good profit. Ed, DN30 or even Chris02 picks the targets of course. JP wouldn't be allowed to touch OUR budget.

Sorry for that. Taken up a bit of Paradisewon's post match journal space but like I said it was a crazy idea. Not sure if it's even possible with financial rules or UEFA sticking their nose in. Could it possibly effect the ownership status for better or worse?

Thoughts?

Sounds like a cracking idea myself and I would most certainly buy into that IF I definitely knew the money was all going towards one decent quality player in a position we vitally needed strengthening. Especially a striker.

Has it ever happened anywhere else high profile though? I can't see it working though sadly but I'm pretty sure most of us would buy into this sort of thing for a tenner or so instead of wasting that tenner in the club shop just to fund our next Bangura/Pukki/Balde/Boerggter player. Still don't see it ever happening, who would be in charge of bringing the player in and scouting him makning sure it's a player most fans would want?

Anyway nice idea but sadly unrealistic imo.

We have so many things to blame for this situation it's astounding. We have a squad who because there is no Rangers competition have taken their eye of the ball and pretty much lost their competitive edge. Any time we are asked a question in a pressurised game we fail to show up. As the league is a gimme for them with very little challenge. The board has failed us badly as well , that's 40 million we have probably thrown away in two seasons in games we should have won, let's be honest we were pleased to get past quarabag! no one had even heard of them until this season. If it's run as a business surely someone has to answer questions into y we can throw that sort of money away without really giving it a go. Is Ronny the answer really,? We all know he was way down the list and maybe u can see y or is it because we need to change 8-10 of the squad to become a hungry decent side again. ( which we won't pay out for ) I hate to say it but that result was expected by the majority of fans who were hoping for a result for us without too much faith that we could get it. I personally don't know how this rot is going to stop , but as u can tell I'm feeling deflated by it all.

We are no longer a big club on the European side of things but the board promises are now running on empty, when the tell fans to buy season tickets and we will bring in quality players .
The quality they want is buy young and cheap have a good season or 2 then sell the the highest bidder and any money made will go back into the club. PISH
The fans want the best players on the park the club can afford not the people that are being signed.
Blame the manager if you want but it must be like going for a dump with your legs tied together , until the board free up money before champions league qualifiers we will always be a europa league club.

Following on from my other post about the general poor quality of most of our squad, we need change, RADICAL CHANGE if we are to improve and progress again on the park. Because this simply isn't good enough.

We need to try and offload the players who are going stale and past their sell by date, players that can't raise their games to suitable levels domestically never mind in Europe. If we need to go into a bit of debt then so be it but something has to change because the drop in quality over the last few years has been nothing short of disgraceful. I understand we can't return to the Larsson, Sutton and Hartson days but come on to eff. We have became a laughing stock in Europe and are no longer feared by even teams like Malmo, Legia and the likes anymore.

For the sake of the club and going forward someone has to be ruthless and tell players it's time to go and if that means settle their contract then so be it if we can't find a buyer which we most likely can't.

Guys like Mulgrew, Boeriggter, Stokes, Scepovic etc need to go. There's no point in hanging around anymore. Players like Brown, Johansen, Boyata, Armstrong, Forrest, GMS, Cifcti, Commons, Izzy, Griffiths gradually need to ALL come out the first team picture including the matchday squad and be replaced, Izzy would be okay as a backup LB and maybe Griffiths back up striker but the rest could honestly go and start afresh. This isn't knee-jerk at all, I've always been of this opinion of our squad and last nights result and performance only solidified that further. These players are offering nothing when the stakes get higher and so have proved they cannot handle it and need to go. We need a decent RB who is not constantly injured, we need a decent LB, We now need two CBs, We need a midfielder in place of Brown(time for change), We need a whole new attack. All FOUR attacking players need replaced which means a new RW, LW, CAM and Stiker. Sadly it's easier to change the manager than this but that's just papering over the cracks that have been forming over the last few years, Lenny seen this coming hence why he jumped ship.

We need a change in transfer policy and wage structure, we need more ambition because if Lawwell and Desmond are genuine Celtic fans then they can't be enjoying what they're watching like oursleves. We may have to go into debt but it certainly won't be crippling like Oldo. Going into £10-20M worth of debt would not send us to the wall for the sake of having a better team which would get more fans in the door, better chance of CL qualification hence rake the money back in. Remember Oldco were in hundreds of millions of debt with a huge tax case coming up which in the end seen them liquidated not £10-20M of debt. It would be nice right enough if our billionaire owner Desmond funded such change but somehow I can't see it and don't see what he brings to the table. Claims he funded the Robbie Keane deal moons ago but I believe the Scott McDonald transfer fee paid for that at that time personally.

As a club and as a support we deserve better, MUCH better. We're far too big a club to see us rot away like this. Change needs to happen now and fast, fresh ideas and fresh funding needs to be brought in for the sake of the club. It's the only way to solve the current situation we find ourselves in.

Oh and one last thing, our next fixture is at home to St Johnstone, this is where a lot of our fans imo seem to get a bit lost in regards to our squad. A lot are angry and disappointed just now but a win over St Johnstone sees a lot of these same fans saying everything is fine and hunky dory again when it clearly is not. It's still the same team and players that have failed us and will fail again given another chance, I don't really trust this team has the bottle to see off the challenges properly that Aberdeen and Hearts are imposing imo, that's really how poor a side we've become. We still need to be brought in ALL over the park. Don't be blinded by a decent showing against St Johnstone and then folk think we're a decent side again. We're not and won't be until proper investment and changes to our transfer policy and wage structure are changed.

I was unsure of RD but tried to warm to him. blame me, he says. Well, I do but the supposed professional footballers who struggled to pass, block or run with the ball are equally to blame. we were not playing one of the big money clubs, this was the Swedish champions ffs. The harsh reality is that a years worth of efforts can be scrapped by one bad game. That's football. But that's why we keep going back. Because nights like last night make the next time we qualify, which eventually we will, that whole lot sweeter.

Obviously a lot of fall-out on here as naturally we're all disappointed.

Some blaming Deila - he's got a bit to learn. Granted. Perhaps needs to start thinking a bit more about how to cope wih pressure as obviously, like JC said, we don't get it like Malmo gave us from our league opponents. Was the same with Legia and Maribor actually. We can't defend for toffee. 3 goals from set pieces over the two legs. Change it RD. Malmo used the space and moved as a unit much better than us.

The players - we sh!t ourselves last night. Every time we were chased down we knocked the ball for touch, to nobody. Passing was abysmal and there wasnt much fight. Is the harsh reality that's what we're about when the tough gets going or was it just a bad performance and that's how cup football can punish you?

The board - well, the obvious counter is that Malmos team cost 3m. Bit of a wake up call that. But no, over a few seasons of skimping and saving and not reinvesting, said it before, the CL will only get further away.

We need to regroup and rethink now. The EL should be used further as a learning curve to tweak our game, get rid of those who aren't capable and most of all restore a bit dignity and reputation to CFC.

I think the problem with Delia is he doesn't think he has anything to learn. Only last week he said he has total belief in his system. The system is clearly not working last night was the worst but the signs we there from the start of the season. One misplaced pass and the opposition are right on to our back four. There are huge gaps in the midfield and Johanssen in the creative role gives the ball away too much and puts us under pressure. Last night he took off our best attacking threat when we needed a goal. That's not the first time either, he did it against ICT and inter last year when we were down to ten men

With the amount of money brought in from selling Wanyama, Forster, Hooper etc. we should be able to buy players that would simply blow Malmo away but we seem to be working to a system that every single signing needs to be a work in progress and have a sell on value. If you buy a 30 year old striker who scores twice last night you've made £20m, that covers the lack of sell on value and then some. It's false economy at times.

Oh well, I am sad to admit that currently Europa League football is our best hope. We fell to pieces all over the park last night. Maybe a blessing in disguise that we didn't qualify, Of course PL would love to swell the coffers with the big money but we would be obliterated in the group stages.
I have been reading all the calls for RD to be sacked, I feel that's a bit harsh on him. I am a big supporter of what he is trying to achieve, but the backing from the board is hindering this. CL level clubs don't plunder SPL and below for players. CL clubs don't have a fire sale of all their assets if someone offers over £5m (VVD will be punted asap). If RD ever has to stand up to Lawell, it's now. I'd like to see him demand a £6m player or he walks. Time to put Lawell under pressure, that his managers have had to deal with each season.
We have no more players to punt, Johansen at a push £4m? PL is so concerned with his balancing the books, he is killing Celtic Football Club anyway - the half empty stadiums are a testament to that.
RD needs to look seriously at the squad and get rid of a few bodies - not just the promising youngsters who are farmed out on loan never to return.

Pissed off today!

Celtic (Lawell) has employed puppet managers since WGS and although NL was Celtic through and through, he was a willing, cheap and a convenient replacement for Mowbray.
Deila is untested at a higher level and Celtic are a huge club and I still see fear and doubt in his eyes during hard or very important games.
At least Lennon had some CL successes.

The sad facts are we have gone too far in the wrong direction for too long and have gradually allowed this to happen and we will not improve in the immediate future.
The board, the managers and the support have settled for a drop in quality and standards for several years and we are now where we belong in terms of European standards.
Since 2012, there has been a complacency within the club and a 'small club mentality' without a serious rival and lack of TV money and investment in 'Celtic class' players.
I even suspect that Lawell is holding back until Sevco arrive and then everything will be just fine and dandy?!

Lawell declared we were self sufficient and didn't need Rangers to survive - and that is true, but we expect better than surviving, we need CL football and entertainers.
We have been virtually assured of CL football for the past 5 years and instead of grasping that gift and building a team to dominate Scotland and regain our European reputation, we have faltered in domestic cups and sell off our better players every year - replacing them with inferior types.
After VVD goes we are pretty short of class players to sell and now we have no CL cash (yet again) to boot.

Strachan worked wonders at Celtic while working to a budget and handling a player transition, he still had success and managed to attract very good CL quality players and gave us some great European nights.
That seems very long ago and I feel unless we have a massive rethink and change of attitude we will have a long wait for more of those famous CL nights we all crave.

@Groutdoc. A more free flowing exciting brand of football, that the team may take time to adapt too. Playing higher up the park in a more dynamic fashion. Turning the squad from players to athletes on and off the park. Nurturing young talent and giving squad positions on effort on the training ground. trying to restore excitement in a 1 team league.

It's just my opinion of what I see, so if you try and shoot me down, fair doo's!

I've always backed Deila from the begining he is not the issue. I never had a dig at the powers running our Club but even for me that's it now I have had enough of blind loyalty. Year in year out we spend crazy money following this Club and what do we get in return, look I know we can't compete with even Championship Clubs in England these days but what chance do we have when our own Board won't invest on quality to ensure we then have a steady income of Champions League cash. PL runs Celtic as a business not a football club so where does this end is this what we are going to do for the next 10 years, 20 years? Aslong as we are not in debt and have £2m in the bank every season that's what we should be happy with? We keep hearing we are a huge club.sorry but we can't even fill our own stadium and compete with mediocre teams in Europe now. Like Chris Sutton said if you spend nothing you get nothing. It's now time for Dermot Desmond to step aside we should be a toy to no man, can someone prove me wrong that this man actually does something at CP. We need new investement and fresh ideas because as a Club we are now going backwards. How many diehards do you know over the last few years have stopped going. I know plenty. too many infact. don't let me hear this aye they ain't real fans, believe me they are they are just sick of spending a fortune to have the same things done over and over. A club with real ambition would buy the quality needed in order to qualify into the champions league. Sick to the stomach this morning after that gutless performance and I like many others i'm seriously considering staying away until there is changes because i'm certainly not going to be made a fool of any longer and fleeced of my cash when I have kids to feed, say I ain't a fan all you want I've been going since I was a kid and had to sit and endure rangers 9 in a row like most of you, think over a 5 year period I missed one away game and that was at Livingston. Anyway all the best to you's all i'm taking a break for the time being if its just anger talk we will see but as I said enough is enough for me at the moment.

It would've made sense to invest in quality to qualify for the riches of the champions league with the sale of Van Dijk to recoup that money had we not qualified

Your a true Celt mate. It's the bawbags running us that are not true Celtic men. A number of years ago ivertyrned my season book. They asked me why. I told them

When Lawell starts to invest in the team so will I.

I couldn't take it anymore.

Of course nothing has changed.

Totally gutted and utterly disgusted.

Didn't want to post last night as it would have been heated and it shows how bad and worried as fans we all are when we are pointing at board level managerial level where as in previous years it would have all been around the chopped off goal

I don't think Deila can motivate hence why we had such a bad performance he also has to look at how that team performs

Our creative players struggle to make 10yard passes and the delivery from set plays is woeful

Think it's time to ditch the strict fitness and bring back the chips irn bru and practicing with a ball

Ed and other users of site, with so much been said before about our clubs new fitness regime and how important it is for us to be super fit so we can play with a high tempo game for 90 minutes, does anyone else think that we play high tempo football for 90 mins?

Over the both legs we started brightly and played at high tempo but we allowed Malmö back into the game by slowing down and almost not looking too bothered how much effort was put in.

So over the 180 mins I reckon we played high tempo stuff for roughly 30 mins give or take. Is this really what we have succumb to?

Zonal defending, why oh why do we even bother, we can't do it. From O'Neil to Deila they have all tried it and not one has had any success in Europe from it at this level. Let's get back to man on man then we know who's at fault when he loses his man.

Charlie Mulgrew has really been found out tonight, out of position, inept of pace and passing out of defence were shocking the boy needs to get over himself. Hopefully this will be the last time we see him in a Celtic Jersey.

Brown usual Mr Consistent has went backwards this season led to two goals last week and his staring people out to try and scare them off act is getting rather pathetic. I would rather see him using the skills for which he gets paid for. Browns first couple of seasons with us he used to really annoy me with constant whinging and picking up needless cautions I thought he had moved on from this stage but it looks as though he may be heading back that way.

All in all if we can't beat the champions of Sweden;and let's be serious Swedish football is no better than Scottish, then we do not deserve to be in the champions league.

How long before Profit MarginPete balances the books and sells off VanDijk and Bitton.

Well Said frewbhoy. We were woeful all over the pitch. I saw it coming but didn't want to say because the masses would have accused me of not being a real fan. I take no pleasure in being right. I'm gutted, but also relieved, because if we had gone through we'd have been humiliated 6 times in the group stage. RD says the Europa League is our level and it's about time the board did something to change that. It's also about time most of us as fans also accept that's where we are as a club. I imagine it's goodbye to VVD now and good luck to the lad too. This has to be the time for a cull of the deadwood in our squad. Let them go for free if needs be, just get them out. As for RD?? Well I just don't know about him. His lack of experience is clear for everyone to see. What you said about Broony is spot on too. He's an ok player with a big heart but his mind games are only highlighting his other shortcomings in his game.
Anyway, nothing more to say really. We're going to have a fight on our hands to retain the league title this year so don't be thinking it's a done deal on that score either.

Hail Hail

I remember the transition period at the start of last season and the emphasis placed on diet, fitness and stamina by the new regime as we faltered at the start of the season.
There is no doubt that we dominate all of our domestic games - as did most Celtic teams, but this high tempo, pressurising and slick play, happens very rarely during games and if anything we look sluggish and pedestrian more than ever.
A year on and Delia has failed to qualify for the CL again and any progress and improvement he promised has evaporated.
The attendances will plummet for the foreseeable future through disappointment, dis-illusion and lost confidence in what direction we are heading.

Ronny deila says "blame me, well ronny don't worry I am. You have spoiled my season already for another season mate. Grab your jacket pal. Your a puppet on a string with no tactical awareness, you scream "stop the cross, "stop the cross, you know nothing more. I don't mean to hurt your feelings but your hurting my club along with that board

How can you blame deila? He is operating with one arm tied behind his back. If anyone is too blame it's the BOARD for not giving him decent funds to compete at CL level. So take your frustrations out on the board.

Anybody who plays Ambrose is not giid enough .

If you can't see he us rubbish you don't deserve a job in football.

That's how you can criticise RD.

All the rest is a combination of that level of weakness and a board of spivs who still get their bonus by balancing books and keeping us mediocre at best.

It's time for change.

its whoever decides on the players we sign to blame, there even getting lazy and won't travel further than Dundee & Edinburgh.
We signed Allan from hibs, why? It's obvious we've been shouting out for defenders and strikers, and we sign another midfielder, who quite honestly at this point in time offers nothing to the team.

Disappointment is an understatement after watching tonight's game. No fight no flare against a mediocre team that will probably finish bottom of their group in the c.l. So it's the Europa League once again which could be a blessing in disguise if we get rid of and take in players that the team desperately needs I.e left back, 2 central defenders and a target man up front as we need to vary the formation now and again as we are clearly to predictable when it comes to European Games.
