Well that's 2 hours of my life I will never get back. I promise I will never call another Celtic game boring as Man Utd - Chelsea was one of the worst I've seen in a long time.
If either of these 2 think they will compete with Bayern and the 2 Spanish teams, I think they are a long way off.
Bring on Wednesday for some real edge of the seat entertainment.

Booaarrrrring. All the hype and they dish this up. I think the SPL without the undead is turning into an entertaining package. I tip my hat to Butcher at Inverness for the job he has done with limited resources. The EPL is like the Ingerlund team. all blow, no go.

Agree0 Disagree0

The players involved were paid at least 3m between them for that pile of dross. That is unsustainable. All that league is, is a vehicle for tv companies to make profits. It's not English, it just happens to be played in england. No English manager has ever won it and only a handful of English players were involved last night. The circus could be moved elsewhere if the tv bosses think they could make more. I'm cancelling sky on Thu and getting a freeview box.

God that's 2 hours of my life I won't get back . Best league in the world . 22 highly paid over the odds players and hardly a telling pass in the whole game . DH

Once the film editors get to work on the highlights it will be one of the greatest games played with action replays, shots of players faces showing gritty determination etc. etc. should be reported under the false advertising laws

Ed, can you shed any light on a rumour on the radio by a sevconian that we are £30m in debt? Thanks

AdelanteBhoy {Ed007's Note - It's gibberish. It has all to do with their lack of braincells and ability to process what is in front of them. A The Rangers/Sevco fan must have found a Sunday Times in a bin and saw an article about the Co-Op bank with CFC's name in it, that was all it needed.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

ED007: This all started on mcturdo's blog. Some guy on there has been elevated to a god for his 'research'. Seems it all hinges on a loan of £17m that has to be paid in 2019.They are all wet and sticky because we are only paying the interest every year. The loan is secured against land 'around' Celtic Park. This land was secored from GCC by THE UNSEEN FENIAN HAND it seems.
All in the clubs accounts apparently. green jhedi {Ed007's Note - And the Co-Op is only charging us 1.5% interest per year, the same article in The Times had a pop at the Co-Op's relationship with the Labour Party.}

Agree0 Disagree0

This should this up, just the usually tube spreading rumours with no evidence

goo.gl/eTDG1i

Agree0 Disagree0

He just kept saying its debt it's 30 million debt.

I was under the impression we had no bank debt. Anyway, I'm quite sure it would all be out before now, however I'd like to know why we have a loan out. I'd rather pay it off soon if we do have.

Is this in the times, I wouldn't mind a read, .

Adelantebhoy {Ed007's Note - I think Joe Public needs to pay to read The Times online edition mate. It's a non-story, if we had debt anywhere near that there would have been Zombies all over it.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ooooh. Let's organise a protest and see if we can beat the mighty undead Might struggle to get together more than 10 Celtic supporters who actually believe this drivel. At least on this site most people try to check out the info first before spouting off. (which is more than can be said for some of our so called 'reporters')

Agree0 Disagree0

I have looked at last years accounts and have a jpg of them. I think by reading them it says we have the facility to have upto 30mil loans and overdraft.

It looks like we have it available to use if needed, and are currently in usage of about 10mil of it.

(Ed, I will register later but have posted a lot on here over time. Just can't sign up from work pc)

I will post the jpg later and maybe someone can shed some light on this.

My dad called me asking if i'd looked into it, these pesky secvonians had him questioning it lol

Interesting info from tv website:

"Celtic have successfully overturned a 2-0 away first-leg deficit in three of the four occasions they have been faced with the task.
They defeated the French side St Etienne 4-0 in Glasgow in the 1968/69 European Cup, Sporting Lisbon 5-0 in the 1983/84 Uefa Cup and Cologne 3-0 in the 1992/93 Uefa Cup.
Only once have they failed to recover a 2-0 deficit in a home return leg, a 1982/83 European Cup second-round tie when Real Sociedad went through despite a 2-1 home win over the Spaniards."

It gives us a bit of hope for Wednesday I think!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Luckily, I was at all those games and although we had better players then; Celtic Park is still an awesome place for any team to come to.
Our Euro reputation was boosted under MON and has carried on from there with only a few hiccups along the way.
The support play such an important part in Celtic success and this was obviously lacking over there for obvious reasons.
I still think it is a tall order as we are still below par and leaking goals, but as you say - we've done it before!

Evening everyone,

After media interview by Ledley and pics going up of stadium getting ready for Wednesday starting to get nervous, I know the bhoys can pull this off and get into the group stage.

Secondly the line up for the petrov match looks incredible so cracking talents going to be in parkhead plus as far as am aware after hearing on radio it's a sell out unless I picked tht up wrong.

Lastly saw a pic on twitter if wee Oscar Knox in hospital once more for his horrible illness he is suffering, my thoughts and prayers go out to the little guy who has already had so much battles and has so much more ahead for such a young boy it's heartbreaking!

I hope everyone puts the little guy in there thoughts and prayers tonight and hold your loved ones close tonight.

So Finn is talking with Cardiff
well done Peter, hope this does bite you in the arse. and I hope we win on Wed night as a defeat will cost us £20 million and your at fault. maybe you will pull a top drawer signing out of the bag, but somehow I doubt it. You may as well sell our keeper and have the full spine torn from us.
I will be glad when this window closes and when the game is over on Wed night.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

How is it PL fault? players don't want to sign for us because of the league we are in and after last weeks shambles CL group stages could be gone and that's solely down to the players and managers useless tactics we have a good enough squad at present to sweep aside teams like borut united but as per celtic usual we always underestimate the so called lesser teams in cup competitions at our own fault ie: raith rvs, ict, ardmedia, ross county, killie, etc the list is endless (add sion)

Good God! What are these stupid posts all about? We do not know anything about this transfer. We offered what we thought he was worth, end of story. You can't trust Mr Park when it suits you.The fact is this, we cannot compete with the Premiership. Try leaving a name as well mate, these derogatory posts with no tag are very irritating. green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

It is down to lawell how much we offer and no-one expecting him to offer 10 million for anyone but surely we can afford to spend 5 million on a proven goalscorer who is getting better and will have a sell on value of double that because its not a gamble. if he's scoring 25 a season in holland he will score at least that here. plus he only suppoesedly on around 4 grand a week at heerenveen so we could defo afford to offer him a lucrative deal to entice him and hopefully after wednesday champions league football as well

Agree0 Disagree0

The OP is maybe over the top with criticism but the main point of his post is accurate regarding the persuit of Finnbogasen (Spelling). He must have been our number 1 target as we made a bid for him 1st and for the sake of an extra 1M we have taken a massive risk going into CL qualifiers minus a natural goalscorer or one we trust (Stokes). Time will tell if Puki can deliver but I think most fans will agree we wanted FINN instead of the Fin. Still think we will qualify though. Note- Where did he say he didn't want to join us or the league as people are suggesting. Dhanbo

Agree0 Disagree0

I am sitting hoping that Celtic have enough in the tank to win on Wednesday, I also think we will see a small flurry of movement after Wednesday. Wether it's the Finnish finisher or not, they will get my full backing, it's the Celtic way. I will enjoy Wednesdays game looking through a crack in my fingers behind the couch, but I hope to be a happy chappy come 10pm. or 10.30

Was just thinking there for a 2nd, too long if am being honest.

If we don't make the Champs Lge on Wednesday, I can honestly see big Forster saying he wants a move to help with chances of England call up.

Benfica in a league with better competition would all of a sudden be appealing.

This is a real worry and I know Lennon says he wouldn't sell but money talks. {Ed007's Note - I don't think Benfica have any chance of getting of Forster. The chance to return to Newcastle would be a different proposition altogether...}

Is it just me or is George on the tribute acts site beginning to sound more like charles green every day. Now going on about how the whole world are against them and laughing at them. isn't this what Chuckie did to get the more extreme bears on side. Lots of CAPITALS getting used to get his point over tales of being worried people were after him lots of promises but most broken (no flyers no show etc. Came on here and god knows how many other sites to try garner support to save the Mighty bears but if anyone said anything he didn't like CAPITALS OF ABUSE. paranoia ripping out of him and because of this he is doomed to failure well his public relation isn't Jack Irvine is it. Thought at first he was one of the decent Rangers fans of whom are the majority unfortunately a silent one in the main. But his actions since being on here will drive more genuine fans away. {Ed007's Note - Decent The Rangers/Sevco fans are the majority, are you sure about that one? Don't let them fool you with this pleasant facade, just like Ibrox's facade the cracks are showing and it's crumbling.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Let me stick my neck out here.I think he is an attention seeking nutcase! Reading his posts is pretty hard work as they are poorly written and very vague.Having said this he claims to be in the legal profession! I assume he is a turnkey as his posts clearly are not proofed in any kind of legal fashion.

He also wears snakeskin boots apparently. That's enough for me not to trust him! On the decent fan majority thing, I am with Bond.Until the 2010 League Cup final I went with that.Sadly that day proved beyond any doubt the majority love being up to their knees in certain things. green jhedi

Lennon says the striker is someone who has been mentioned for a while. This morning Billy Sharp was linked but just now on twitter he's arrived back in Hampshire in his Porsche with the number plate BS11ARP clearly visible in the picture.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2013 13:49:05
Getting totally disheartened when I see the level of players we are being linked with or have signed this season. We were told as a gesture by the club for 125 years that they were taking 100 pounds off season tickets but the sad fact is with our signing policy that just wasn't enough our season tickets should have been halved as the quality in our league is rank rotten and we are adopting a small club mentality by buying under performing players or potential players and looking to improve them for a profit. It's time to stop going with begging bowls to second rate Scandinavians/Africans/Israelis and the rest and either buy within our own region players like McGinnis, Russell, Mackey-Steven, Griffith etc who know what it is to play for celtic and would appreciate the chance or give watt, Atajic, Irvine, Henderson etc a chance I for one would rather go down with players who care than players who couldn't find us on a map?. I love my club and will always support the club but the players we have now I wouldn't rush to greet them because most are only here for a year or two before they want to move on to bigger things(soton, Norwich, forest or whoever will take them) I would rather watch a team of youth with mulgrew Forrest stokes brown as I believe they care about us the fans even though they may not be the best players.

Jim

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sorry Jim but it's you who is adopting the small club mentality. 'Rather go down with players who care'? that's madness mate. What we are doing is the right way forward as a club.If it is at all possible we should always get money for someone who leaves.

On the home grown player side I would agree to an extent.Having said that there must be a fusion of imports and kids.We all know and admire the Ajax model.Look at their history, it is littered with pretty barren years then a team blends and does well in the CL for a couple of years. They then sell off some big assets, continue to do well at the top level then sell again. And so on, and so on.

I would liked to have seen Russell at Celtic, but Lenny obviously had his eye on someone else. Mackay Steven? Typical winger, blows hot and cold.Have you ever seen him dominate a game? We have Forrest, Sammi and Derk for left wide. He's hardly needed for me.green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

I can see why you want to compare us to Ajax as fans we are far superior but as club records go not so sure Ajax regularly have good players of technical ability that's why they have won 8 European trophies and everyone raves about their academy. We boast about our academy yet rarely play them and many of our recent signings look rather technically inept. I don't see my point as being small club I want to sign players develop them and keep them as we grow rather than build, sell then rebuild and hope it works. Foreign players only want short term as they are basically only after the cash homegrown players are more likely to commit long term so we must adopt a policy of developing homegrown players mainly. I am not saying abandon foreign signing just don't sign them when there are better prospects here.

Who would you prefer balde or daly
Pukki/sharp or Russell/Griffith
Mouyokolo or dunne

We need to stop looking at sell on fees and get the right player first

Jim

Agree0 Disagree0

@Jim: I never actually compared us to Ajax mate.We are miles off that standard.Ajax have been using their system for around twenty years, we are three years into ours.

Something else to ponder is we all know who does not make it at Celtic as it's our club.I would guess Ajax release around the same amount of players as Celtic, we just never hear of them.

You also say you want to'sign players, develop them then grow sell and rebuild'. But you then ask who I would prefer Balde or Daly? Daly is close to thirty one mate, so it would be Balde.

Pukki or Sharp? Hard to say.I know Sharp is well regarded in England.I also know what a thoroughly honourable and decent guy he seems to be.His age might be against that though( ED007?) Russell I would have liked, Griffiths I would not touch with a barge pole.He is trouble, can you imagine him in Glasgow? As for Dunne, your joking. At his peak he was slow. Now an oil tanker turns quicker. Cheers. Green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

Look at the team hibs had a few years ago, the board sold them on, made a good profit, and have struggled since. I think it's a dangerous game unless you have quality players ready to come in and take over, but to be fair, Hooper, Wilson & Wanyama wanted to move on. Jon

Ed what's the point in buying pukki when he will be in eligible for champs league as I expect schalke to beat paok

Hoopybhoy {Ed007's Note - It will depend what tournament we are playing in.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I suppose I don't know if its just me but I'm a bit worried about wed I was confident until we lost another goal from a long throw on sat I would give the boy atjaic (spelling) ago he looks good technically and comfterable on the ball

Hoopybhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

I was impressed by the boy as well.I thought he had a nice touch in the box and might trouble their big lumbering defenders. We will need to have players actually beating players to get a shot away not the usual continual crosses. green jhedi

If its true that Benfica want Forster, would you let him go? I would as he definately doesn't look convincing, think he has been listening to his own press. That said Zaluska isn't a number one and can't think off the top of my head a keeper that would be a suitable long term replacement. Not convinced Given is the answer he would be an expensive short term fix.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would go for Plamen Iliev 21 year old Bulgarian plays for Levski Sofia he recently made his international debut massive potential but don't know how much he would cost. Anyone else know? Davie C

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not keen on losing the full spine of team but god forbid we lose on wednesday then it could be a chance to regroup and start again. We should not be looking at given but a younger keeper who will grow into a top player maybe somebody like hibs keeper

Agree0 Disagree0

For all his heroics last year Forster has lots of faults, the biggest being his refusal to come for crosses. Good, possibly great on his day, reflex keeper but overall still does not tick all the boxes. They do say a keeper is late twenties early thirties before they are complete though. green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

A would take it tbh. For the size of him he should be commanding the box but any long throw corner or cross and he stays on the goal line as if he's scared

GunnieBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

@4 totally agree. I nearly choked on my dinner the other week when Paddy Bonner criticised him for not commanding his box and not coming out to collect croses!

Agree0 Disagree0

There's no way he will move on at this stage though I agree with all above posters. He's a lennys boy for some reason. I would ask him if he wants a move to that we get double our money from him. Joe Hart is getting so e crit just now for crosses but he's still way ahead of foster. England your having a laugh big guy. That said don't know who I'd go for or who's available everyone says Shay would be expensive but I'd still have him before foster even at his current age. Experience at the back can come from a dominant talking goalie and settle nerves of the backd

Folks, 20 names mentioned in the last day or two. We don't do much to kill wild speculation when we're all doing it ourselves. At this rate we'll have an entire new team in by midnight. Gently does it with the name dropping because it just leads to disappointment wheen a player doesn't sign, and he may never haveen a real contender to begin with. don't fall into the media trap of guessing. They are getting paid for it, we arent.

No problems Darren we all have an opinion on here and are all anxious about Wednesday.
Only thing I would say is for this game we need wide players so Izziguirre is a must ( I agree he is not the best defender) but we nee him to attack down left and support Sammy. I would play Mathews but further forward in right midfield if Forrest or Boerighter cannot make it.
Also Forster MUST command his box and come and catch all high balls and our defenders MUST cut out ball from long throw ins, this team only knows the aerial route if we nullify that we have a good chance.
dead balls and corners will be important so Mulgrew and Commons must deliver accurate balls and hit the target. Timalloy

i know team picking is a bit premature atm, but I feel we need a bit of change in ours for the karagandy game
so here it is.

forster

lustig ambrose mulgrew mattews

brown ledley

boriggter commons sammy

watt

mattews is good at lb and emilo I have had enough off, maybe a stiint on the bench could sort him out. i'm not sure balde has done enough for a start. sammy MUST be on the left. I feel 4 4 2 is a redundant formation these day. no top side uses it and i'm not sure we should either. not in the champions league anyway. if that side can't over turn the score then we don't deserve champions league, but I see no reason why we can't get to the europa final and or win the thing.

come on you bhoys in green.

darrenbhoy

whats your thought bhoys and ghirls?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Definitely think lustig and Mathews for full backs, looks good line up to start with just hope if its not working that Lennon changes things fairly quickly, I still feel we can get at this team at home and score few goals no problem, need every player up for it tho!

Agree0 Disagree0

Matthews did brilliantly at LB against Barca because Messi always came inside onto Matthews stronger foot but away against Benfica, against a natural right footed right winger (Salvio), he got torn to shreds. I'd prefer to put Mulgrew at LB and push Matthews further up. Just my opinion

Why isn't Sharp good enough? I've seen him play numerous times especially for my local team Doncaster and I can tell you he is good enough.
Scored plenty of goals for a team that was underdogs to most they played in the Championship and hasn't really had a chance at Southampton.

He's scored goals everywhere he's played with the exception of Sheff Utd

I assure you he won't be the only striker brought in if Wednesday goes to plan.

People shouldn't be so quick to right him off.

MikeyBhoy88

26 Aug 2013 11:32:54
Obviously hoping we can get a result in this very difficult tie on Wednesday although we do not seem capable of keeping a clean sheet lately and chopping and changing the back four cannot be helping us.
Mulgrew, Lustig and (God forbid) Ambrose are our most experienced defenders so a back three would probably suit, against a defensive Karagandy?

The personnel changes and the positions we have failed to strengthen have been well covered by everyone on here; but whether we get through or not, NL must quickly, find his strongest side and stick with it so we can find some consistency and confidence to get a winning Celtic team on the park.

I see Benfica are in again for Forster and after Wednesday, I for one would let him go if he wants?
The problem for me has always been his failure to command his area and come convincingly for crosses like I see Boruc and Marshall doing in the EPL.
His distribution (even kicking a stationary ball) is haphazard and causes panic and even shot-stopping was his strength and even that has been missing for a while now. Well, that's my opinion anyway.

Looks like Lennon has went and pulled the wool over the fans eyes again went a virtually sealed the deal for Billy Sharp according to sly sports so no Finnbogason am well gutted this is not the big signing we're crying out for. We have made around 40 million and this is what we get 750,000 Billy Sharp why didn't we just go for Russell if this is the case?
Samcfc

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Russell was to be 1.5 mil if celtic tried to sign him. Only 750.000 to side in england

Agree0 Disagree0

Well we are getting pukki aswell, billy sharp and pukki aren't bad. you really need to understand that finbogginson didn't want to sign for us. with those two along with the isreali boy we are looking at and with what we have brought in. i'd be pretty chuffed. billy is also incredibly loyal so if he ended up our next larrson he wouldn't jump at the first offer that came in from england. All ways look on the bright side of life hehe.

Can someone please provide the quote or link which confirms Finbogasson turned us down?

We haven't bid the asking price so he won't have had the option yet. You guys are just giving the board excuses.

Agree0 Disagree0

#3. I take it Finbogginson was top of your shoping list before Celtic showed an interest in him. As was Hooper Wanyama and Wilson?.My point is, no one knew how the later 3 were going to turn out or how the next signing are going to .Let the staff that are paid to do that sort this out and give what ever signing that arrives a fair chance not judge them on what you think you know. Remember the time you pay corporation tax and vat for the player transfers the 40million is more like 30million. Still not an excuse for not strengthening {Ed007's Note - It is more complicated than that. 7 days and 14 hrs to go in the transfer window and I'm sorry, but I don't see us signing anyone. ST money is in, transfer money is in, kitty hasn't been spent - PL's bonus is looking good.

I'm left completely drained and lacking in interest and we're only at the end of August!

On the plus side, Celtic PLC decided to reinstate Section 111 last week. To deflect the attention off the transfer market and sad state of affairs on pitch.

I do think we will sign players, but the result on Wed will determine what calibre and how much we will pay?
I hope lessons have been learned about the timing of selling players and finding immediate replacements in the future, as we have made things hard for ourselves to qualify for the CL - where we need to be to continue to be successful and financially sound.
