"There are 60,000 different opinions just inside this stadium every second Saturday, so I'm a big believer in the Celtic manager always going with his own. " - Tommy Burns šŸ€.

A great thought, but Lenny clearly has off field issues with his players to deal with before he can be concerned about every second Saturday. HH.

Lenny Was the wrong choice
He looks lost and short of ideas. He doesnā€™t know his best formation or team yet. Pre season when we beat Hibs we looked good and the boy Oā€™Connell was excellent he canā€™t get in the squad. He refuses to drop brown and heā€™s playing players who donā€™t want to be here. Punt them and move on. Massive season and we look so disorganised and clueless.

4231 I think it's time to go back to our tried and tested formation. We cannot playing 352 when our wingbacks are poor it's just a non starter.

Barkas
Frimpong Jullien/ Ajer Duffy Taylor

Brown/ Oli Cal

Forrest Christie/ Turnbull Moi

Eddy

Play 4231 until we get proper wingbacks in and strikers up to full fitness.

It's just not working atm. We are playing too many central midfields and we have no pace in the team. Playing a 4231 allows us loada of pace on the right wing and it helps Taylor on the left because you've got moi.

Hope lenny sorts it out on Sunday because this has been torture to watch. Moi is such a good player and he's what we need in the final third. Forrest and frimpong on the right is just scary for any defence as well.

I've wanted 352 for a long time but we don't have the players to play that system atm.

We've not started this season and still in a good position so let's just hope we start soon. HH.

Don't know where to start with that post Della.
Forgive me if I'm wrong but are Jullien and Forrest not injured?
Brown is miles off the pace and shouldn't be starting.
Eddy has been poor recently and even called off with fatigue recently even though the seasons no long started so to me isn't happy with things at Celtic at the moment or is looking for a move? He was as poor as I've seen from him last night and hasn't been much better in other games recently so doesn't deserve to be an automatic pic just because of his past form and potential ability.

In my opinion our 3 best players are:

Edouard
McGregor
Elyounoussi

All 3 were at the club last year and Lennon would have known from early in the year that all 3 would be here at start of this season at least with Elyounoussi extending his loan pretty early.

All 3 should be starting every game in their favoured position. I am flabbergasted that this is not happening and Lennon is putting out a system that doesn't seem to have a place for Elyounoussi and that McGregor isn't looking effective in.

The 3/ 5/ 2 system also takes Forrest's A game away as he is an attacking Mid, not a wing back. Frimpong would be a great wing back but we would have an imbalance as we clearly don't have the same option down the left with Taylor not really suited to that role.

Most teams who come up against us will have 1 striker up front. Why do we need 3 central defenders to deal with this? I get why he adopted the formation at Hibs as it can act as a back 5 if you have the right players, but very rarely will we ever need a back 5. We did at Lazio away and it worked but it doesn't mean its a formation we will need week in, week out.

We have invested a decent outlay on Ajeti and by all means he looks like he knows where the net is. When he is firing on all cylinders I imagine he will start every week.

With no chance of Edouard being dropped or being asked to play off the left the only option is to have 2 upfront. Even if Edouard is sold Ajeti is not the type of striker who will be effective upfront on his own.

The system that plays to our strengths most is 4/ 4/ 2 in my opinion. Our best players all play in their correct position.

There's 2 reasons why I think Lennon is against 4/ 4/ 2

1) He is spooked by what happened in previous matches against Sevco, they will always sit 3 in the middle of the park. The midfield battle was lost but probably wasn't helped by playing an unfit Elyounoussi and Lewis Morgan or Mickey Johnstone in the next one.

2) The team can't carry Brown in a 4/ 4/ 2 and he's not got the balls to drop him this season.

This team in my opinion strolls the league.

Barkas

Taylor
Duffy
Julien
Frimpong

Elyounoussi
Ntcham
McGregor
Forrest

Ajeti
Edouard

Its fluid enough that players like Turnbull, Brown, Christie, Klimala and Griffiths can all come in and play their part as well. Its easily tweaked to a 4/ 1/ 4/ 1 or 4/ 2/ 3/ 1 in games where we need to make sure the midfield is not outnumbered and overrun.

There's a flatness about the team which you would never have thought coming in to the season given what's at stake. Lennon has all but confirmed there is problems behind the scenes with players wanting to move on before back tracking. Hopefully whatever it is gets sorted pronto starting with 3 points on Sunday.

Getting more than a few negatives on
here Tim's, myself I can see only one, our play down the left side of the park is no where near our sharpness on the right and I'm afraid the problem is with our left back he never takes a man on and a lot of our moves forward are breaking down and his over all play is inadequate I may sound harsh but this is the Holy Grail 10 we are on about here But my one negative is different from the rest, because I Know that Lenny will sort it rest assured it will be fixed, In lennon we Trust.

After the CL defeat NL announces that 'there are some players that don't want to be here - and haven't for some time' apparently. Followed by a humble contradiction (probably) initiated from PL.
The respect, loyalty and commitment seems to have evaporated since then in both directions for the few that initiated the statement?
In my opinion, there needs to be some 'exits' before we can all move forward - not to mention finding replacements for those leaving.

Get rid of eddy, nitcham Ajer and Christie they donā€™t want to be here and 10 in a row means nothing to them, money is their god, sell them give the manager the money and let the manager and Hammond buy players who first of all want to be with us and will be first team choice, win the 10.
Get off the managers back and move on.
All our managers in the last 20 years have made great European successes and even bigger messes, so no difference there.
Celtic fc are unbeaten domestically in 2020 and thatā€™s what counts at this time.
The manager is trying to find his best 11 and has deployed various formations to determine that. I think he will settle on 352/ 442 switching but we shall see.
The manager and the board know we need to spend money, so letā€™s get rid of the rotten apples and spend.

nice one @malika20
fans seem desperate its a knock out any team can win.
i know we are panicking with this system and under a lot of pressure.
Not to long ago we win the league then we go into European mini league, if you got in the top two you qualify for the knock outs.
if you win the league you go straight into European league i miss those days.
it seems a long haul to get into Europe after you win the league.
8 games before you reach now C.V. its a one game knockout.
its like every game is stressful.
support lenny and the lads.
the media are getting worse which does not help as some believe everything they read, i thought the subs lenny made was magic thought bitton was brill but zero positivity from fans.

Malika, I'm with you 100%.
Get rid of anyone who doesn't want to be here. No explanation needed. No questions to be asked. Bomb them out for whatever we can get and give the game time to lads who are eager and hungry.
I'd have Turnbull playing in every game, he has the real potential to be fekkin outstanding but he won't achieve it if he's sitting on the bench. Soro too, he's another keen lad. Get them on the pitch, show some faith in them and they'll come good. Ajeti is another, give him a start in every game.
There are others for different positions who will give everything they have and they'll be better than any player who is constantly speaking to his agent. HH.

Local restaurants in toon have extended outdoor eating areas to help with social distancing and to keep income levels. Is it possible the no7 walfrid etc could be extended onto the bottom tier. Do this during matches and you have fans in the stadium with no guidelines broken.

I know what I think is the main problem with the team, and it was present last year aswell, but there is an additional problem this year, that all teams face, and will have an additional effect on some players more than others, and that is playing in empty stadia, some players have the kind of personalities that relish the adoration of the fans more than other players, and with no fans there, these players can't seem to get as enthusiastic about playing as they should, they miss the buzz of the fans, and they know they will still get paid whatever.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Sep 2020 17:25:08
Highly doubt its playing in an empty stadium that's the problem. There is something going on in dressingroom when Lennon has publicly stated there is about 6 players wanting to leave club.

Combine that with tactics and there's the problem.

The rangers fans were bemoaning their team and performances after the Hibs game, much the same as we are doing just now, so I wouldn't agree with them adapting not too bad, they got a few lucky breaks last nigh against the run of play, from the little bit of their game I seen, but that's football, on a side note, that Dutch right winger, was a bit lively, and giving Baricic the run around.

This team is crying out for creativity.

Someone. if fact more than one. who can change game. beatplayers. create space and chances for others. Players not afraid to play forward, in fact players who thrive on it.

Even if we look at players to come in a do a job for a season or two. players in the mould of Hatem Ben Arfa. Someone like Ben Arfa would work. a sort of Di Canio type. wouldn't cost the earth. and if he's shown that he's loved we would get a tune out of him.

Obviously Ben Arfa is just a name I've thrown out there but creativity is a must.

Poor performance yet again. Taylor is not a wing back. Ntcham, McGregor and Brown can't play in the same midfield. Frimpong should start every time we play 352. We can debate formation, personell and tacticts all day but bottom line is we have a decent squad who are under performing. That's down to NL and his coaching staff. He himself looks disinterested and lethargic and his demeanour seems to have permiated through the team. I don't have blind faith that it will all be fine and they will crash and burn which some people think is inevitable. We are bang average at moment - that's me being kind.

I noticed that last night just before we (fortunately for us) scored; He looked beleaguered at John Kennedy, while there is no enthusiasm or encouragement and he very rarely got out his seat.
I suspect there is a dressing room split and he is being undermined in a similar way to RD, when he was hung out to dry.
As I said; fortunately we got that goal - or who knows what we would be discussing today? The malcontents have to be sold, so at least the players that really want to be here can get on with it. Otherwise we could see a deterioration affecting even more players, with guys like Ajeti, Barkas, Duffy, Soro, Turnbull and Klimala doubting why they came in the first place?
Taylor is getting abuse every game and thank feck there are no fans in the ground or the lad would be destroyed. He will never be KT, but is a capable left back - no more, no less and he runs his heart out every time selected. Step forward Eddy, Ajer and Ntcham.

Bigbubs the only thing stopping us getting 10iar is Lennon and his tactics.

There seems to be some players who don't want to play for him, his insistence on playing players who are not upto scratch or past it and this effing about with 4-2-3-1.

We need a clear out and personally I would drop/ transfer the following:

Edouard (Doesn't look interested)
Ntcham
Brown
Forrest
Ajer

And go with 4-4-2

GK Barkas

LB New Signing
CB Duffy
CB Julien
RB Elhamed

LW Moi
CM McGregor
CM Turnbull
RW Frimpong

ST Ajeti
ST New Striker.

Lenny done us a good turn for coming in when Rodgers left but saying that he was unemployed at the time. PL done us wrong in giving him the job full time without interviewing a single candidate since then the club playing methods and style has stagnated if not went backwards. Surely the board can see this? I know this is difficult times for everyone and every club but surely we can find and have better than what we have at the moment.

Bigbubs to be honest either 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 would make a massive difference. Just pray tactics change soon and he gets 4-2-3-1 out his head.

On another note, I realised earlier that when Deila first took over reigns from Lennon he commented on players fitness not being upto scratch. Lennon was on the defensive. Same problems regarding fitness seem to be going on again under Lennon.

Go back to August 2019, the same experts were the same prophets of doom, Rangers2012 were going to beat us with ease in Ibrox, I think it was the 1st of Sept.
I know of one man in North of Ireland, a very good attender of Celtic games, left his home and went hill walking for the first time in years to miss match on TV because Celtic fans on social media had convinced him Celtic had no chance.
We can, we should and we will beat them.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Sep 2020 12:52:51
Right lads, here's my view on Lennon and his media stuff at the moment.
I know he doesn't want to throw his players under the bus in public, although he kinda did a few weeks ago after the Ferencvaros game. I won't question his dedication to Celtic and his desire to see 10iar this season, and I know he's probably hurting as much as any of us with our poor form even though it is somehow keeping us going in the league.
But he needs to gain credibility with the fans. He needs to stop feeding us bullshyte about our on-field performances. He needs to address whatever the problems are within the squad. If some of that is down to how he interacts with players then he needs to look at the bigger picture and what is right for the club and if that means walking away then he needs to do it sooner rather than later. If he has players who he knows don't want to be there then he needs to drop them. A less experienced squad player who is hungry to impress will give us more than a talented player who isn't trying. He has enough depth in the squad to do this.
He needs to drop Broony. Maybe not for good, but for a while. The likes of Soro and Turnbull will easily step into his place and their youthfulness and desire will make up for their lack of experience.
He needs to play the players where they are most effective. Playing players out of position is all well and good when you have injury concerns and you just need cover for a game or two but it seems to be a long term issue with his team choices.
He needs to realise that Celtic FC and it's fanbase is more important than his stubbornness and he needs to stop messing around with his inaccurate praise of underperforming players week in and week out.
If he can manage these challenges then we'll be ok this season but if he doesn't then he'll make a fool of our club, our fans and himself. HH.

What ever happens this will be a season no one will forget. Hopefully we will all be celebrating come May but it could easily be a year of disappointment and no progress .
Fans are fickle but are not stupid, we know when things are wrong. NL has yet to pick the same team 2 games running, chopping and changing shows he does not know his best 11. No one can account for players losing form or injuries but good managers prepare for and adapt to these set backs. Great managers get more from less and produce performances when required. I don't think anyone believes NL can be classed as a great, and maybe that is our fault we have settled for someone who has a passion for the club instead of looking for someone who can be great either as a manager or a player.

We had a younger Scott Brown and Forrest in midfield with guys like Wanyama, Ledley, Ki, Kayal and Commons.
Surely that is the temporary formation until we get a decent LWB.
On Sunday I would play a 4-4-2.

Wouldn't be overly confident but they will burn out as usual. They will win easily at Motherwell as they tend to do well against teams that attack. That's why they've done well in Europe as well. Dutch football is all about attacking and played into their hands (I'm assuming as never watched it) . Sunday is a huge game for us. We need to be on it. Boyle against taylor is a worry for me.

We are missing a CM who has the vision and ability to deliver a killer ball with either foot. Time for young Turnbull to be giving a start. Boy has vision and ability to pass with both feet. Christie is playing for himself now not the team.

Callum all left foot
Christie all left foot
Nitcham all right foot
Brown all right foot

Forrest is back to his old ways, one good game out of 10. If he doesn't beat his man first couple of attempts his head goes down and it passing side/ backwards or cutting inside. He's been rubbish since Rodgers left.

And I can't understand the criticism aimed at Taylor! The boy has hardly put a foot wrong. But is constant focus of people's attack. There is players who are in worse form yet nothing about them. Does the big Israel boy (who lacks pace at fullback) get as much criticism as Taylor? What about Forrest he's been absolutely rubbish. Taylor seems to be a easy target for folk. There is other players I'd be replacing before him!

I never thought Iā€™d say this this, but after seeing more of Dykes playing, I think we missed the boat on that one. Him up top with Eddy drifting off him would have been better option that what we have the now. Taylor would have at least someone to cross a ball to that can win a header in the box.

Eddys at his best dropping deep or drifting wide.

Taylor just isn't good enough. and can't play wingback more like turn back or pass inside. couldn't beatsleep. The big Israel boy as you said lacks pace. doesn't get a game but when he plays doesn't let us down. Think Forrest gets plenty critcism deservedly at times.

You forget the Israel boy was brought in to replace lustig as our no1 RB Itā€™s only because of the form of Frimpong and injuries he isnā€™t playing week in week out.
what you mean doesnā€™t let us down? When he plays does he bomb forward and cross balls in like you expect Taylor to do? Both are fullbacks are they not? One seems to get criticism all the time while the other (when fit) gets none.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Sep 2020 13:20:31
Forrest and Taylor are both guilty of just cutting in and playing it sideways or back. Taylor done it the whole game last night probably only put 2 crosses in the whole 90min. He's not a LWB he's more suited with a winger to help him out down the left as he has no pace to beat a man. He's not the sole focus of criticism as Brown, Ajer, Jullien, Ntcham, Christie, Forrest, Eddy, have not got firing yet.

Seriously what are Lennons post match comments all about. How can he possibly turn round and say "we were very good" "we were excellent". I feel personally insulted by these comments. Every supporter who watched the game last night could see we were absolutely dire just as we have been for the past 9 or 10 games. Call a spade a spade Neil and admit we're miles off it just now but to come out with the comments he did absolutely riled me. I've no idea where this style of football has come from, side to side and backwards passing. No creativity, no penetration. Thank god the game didn't go to penalties as Taylor would have passed his back to McGregor.

As a manager who knows club inside out, he must know the reasons for these performances and the problems within the squad. Otherwise he would be better just packing it in now.
The support are perplexed and frustrated at what we are watching and a media, more than willing to stick the boot in at every turn.
After the CL exit they creamed themselves as he opened up about the unrest and unhappy players at the club and that was humiliating enough, without being 'advised' to retract this 24 hours later and trying to put a positive slant on the moral and team spirit for the next game.
There are obviously still problems with certain players seeking to play elsewhere, but he has to pay lip-service to the press without losing face or exposing the club to outside sniping and gloating.
Most of us are concerned with some aspect of the club or another but he is right not to give ammunition to detractors and foes.

HH.

We played 4321 at the start of the season and were just as woeful. Forrest doesn't play well when he has to make way for Frimpong on the wing. I wish he'd just chose between Brown or Ntcham, get Christie in the midfield and play Ajeti with Eddie so they can form a partnership.

When Shane Duffy was brought in Lennon started playing the 3-5-2 formation.
There were 7 games until the International break with Sevco next up to try and get a settled team and plenty of time to make the formation work in our favour.
We are now 4 games down out of the 7 and itā€™s not working. It is time for change starting on Sunday against Hibs.
Until Celtic buy a suitable LWB to play the 3-5-2 formation, I would play a 4-4-2 which would suit Taylor at left back.
Taylor is a wasted jersey preserving with him at LWB.
Brown needs taken out of the midfield as soon as possible.
McGregor is a more than capable replacement in the Brown roll and we can then bring a more energetic Turnbull into the midfield.
Lennon has 3 more games to implement the solution the fans worked out weeks ago.

Thatā€™s meant to say persevering with Taylor at LWB.

We were awful and no amount of spin from lenny will alter that. we just haven't started this season there's no creativity in the team Christie runs about passing it sideways and eddy was a wasted jersey last night. taylor needs replaced with a frimpong like left sided player. time to give turnbull a run. pkay like that on Sun and hibs will bear us. you have been warned.

I still believe Celtic have the players and itā€™s trying to find a balance which suits the players Lennon has at his disposal.
Itā€™s a disgrace we havenā€™t signed a suitable LWB after the Boli fiasco at the start of August.
Taylor is a left back and doesnā€™t look comfortable playing further forward.
Mcgregor can play the Brown role and Lennon has plenty of other options for a much more balanced midfield.
If Lennon can sort out those 2 positions, it would probably make a big improvement to our play.
Edouardā€™s performance last night is a big worry.
In the past he has been left isolated up front on his own which wasnā€™t his fault.
But last night is the worst Iā€™ve seen him play in a Celtic shirt.
I didnā€™t think Eddy was capable of playing as poor as he did.
He is either carrying an injury or he isnā€™t interested.

Buzz as poor as we were last night like the season so far it was tough for Eddy any time he received the ball there was two or three players on him and no room inside the box. There is a problem at the club just now, those same players who were blowing teams away before lockdown are a shadow of themselves whatever the problem is it needs to be remedied now before itā€™s too late.

Seems we have been saying the same thing since the CL exit Buzz. There's a decent enough left back in Taylor, but we don't have any pace/ penetration left-side the way Frimpong excites on the right.
The transfers-in looked to address our needs, but why we still don't have a left sided player in place at the end of Sept is ridiculous; As is the managers perseverance with a system that - as well as slows us down, suiting every opponent - doesn't get the best out of the team, especially when our own players actually nullify each other!
I also agree about the attitude and desire that's lacking in certain players, who can obviously play much, much better and it's going to get worse unless the problem is rooted out, whether by moving-on or playing in a formation that gets the best from them.
Finally, I hit a nerve on here when I said NL didn't have the bottle to drop Broony and I stick by that and it's obvious he does not trust a team that does not include the skipper, whether it's to carry the underperformers or protect a shaky defense? However, that too must be addressed before Scott Brown 'burns-out' before Christmas, playing twice a week; mostly against teams we should be beating without him. what odds he plays against Hibs (sunday) ?

I think eddy wants out ASAP and doesn't want to get injured. If that is the case start playing ajeti and klimala together and let them build a partnership together. We need to do something as the football we are playing is boring we either need a new formation or manager. For me if the manager can't get an acceptable performance with the best squad in the league he has to go. Sevcis result last night shows how much better in Europe they are than us. That was a good win for them while we struggled badly against decent opposition. Not great opposition we have to start playing with flair and freedom again like we did when we scoring goals for fun. Now we look like we just don't want to get beaten and there is no plan b how long is this going to continue for.

Brown has to be dropped, before this turns into the Scott Brown testimonial team and nothing more, the team lacks creativity and movement in midfield, their is nothing wrong with Taylor, the problem is Brown, concentrating on Taylor is just diverting away from the real problem with the team.

The real problem lies with Lennon for continually playing Taylor at LWB.
Taylor has always been used to a teammate playing in front of him for support.
Now he is left isolated on the left and is expected to continually take on the full back, which he is incapable of doing.
I know you have wanted Brown out of our midfield for the last few seasons,
And I have to now agree with you because the lockdown hasnā€™t been kind to him which is understandable considering his age.

Lennie must have been watching a different game to us last night if he thinks that was a good game. I know they sat in but we looked devoid of ideas, like everyone has said Taylor is so frustrating . The amount of times he gets up to a decent position to turn and pass it back to half way or sideways to brown is unbelievable.
We are going to face these types of sides all season in Scotland, when we face these teams we surely donā€™t need browny in there, we need a midfielder who can play a pass through a defence or a wingers who can go past a full back. We keep hearing about massive competition in midfield and players wonā€™t play every game, but browny never gets rested . Surely we could give others a chance and bring him on to close out games and change the dynamic of the side . At the minute itā€™s pretty turgid.

Must say I'm a bit bemused by Lennons comments after the match, saying we were excellent bla bla bla, nose weren't Lennon. We were bang average at best from what we should be. If it wasn't for the sparkin wee frimpong we could still be in latvia trying tae find the net. On current form how Forrest starts ahead of frimpong is beyond me. If we only had a LWB with the same drive and energy what a problem that would be for the opposition. Absolutely no disrespect to Taylor but for the love of got Celtic, get that LWB position sorted as a matter of urgency please!

Nothing against the wee guy but Greg Taylor just isn't good enough. The difference between him and Frimpong is like night and day. Taylor hasn't enough pace to play the way we are looking for him to play. Also when is Lennon going to learn that Brown McGregor and Ntcham don't work together.
