Although sorting out Fifa is long over due . I would be happier if we had a thorough investigation into the workings of those who are in charge of Scottish Football and especial the bias approach to the teams who operates out of Govan over the years .

The size of our squad and the selection headache that Ronny faces each week to try and keep a lot of players happy must be difficult to manage even although it's a nice problem to have. Here's all the positions our players can play if Ronny wanted them there or they have played there in the past or even in extreme circumstances if we needed to put.

GK - Gordon, Bailly, Fasan.

RB - Lustig, Janko, Ambrose.

CB - Simunovic, Ambrose, Boyata, Blackett, Lustig, Mulgrew.

LB - Izaguirre, Blackett, Tierney, Mulgrew.

CM - Bitton, Brown, Johansen, Armstrong, Rogic, Allan, McGregor, Mulgrew.

RW - Forrest, Commons, GMS, Johansen, McGregor, Allan, Janko, Nesbitt.

CAM - Commons, Johansen, Rogic, Allan, McGregor, Armstrong.

LW - Forrest, Armstrong, GMS, Allan, McGregor, Johansen, Stokes, Nesbitt, Boeriggter(lol).

ST - Griffiths, Ciftci, Stokes.

That's not in really any specific order btw just saying who has/could/maybe/would play that position.

There's probably some I've missed but then when you add the likes of Henderson, Fisher, Scepovic, O'Connell etc who have been loaned out it's a crazy squad selection Ronny has. Not suggesting most of these players are of extreme high quality, just suggesting the size of the squad with who can play where if needed etc must be some selection headache for Ronny to keep on top of and keep most happy but I'd say he's made a decent job of it so far.

It's a big squad , Celticforever, and I am sure Deila would have shredded up to ten/twelve if he could . It's very hard to persuade many players to sign , it can be even harder getting rid of many of those who don't really make it with us . I think most clubs have enough average players and don't want any more . The clubs, who could benefit from the players who are surplus to requirements , are not able to match our wages .

"I think offensively he looks very like Busquets, defensively he is also on his way, "

RD on Bitton.

I remember Ed when you told me about your longstanding bet about Brown being CFC manager. I said I bet Bitton ends up at Barca because he looks like the new Busquets. You had a laugh at me. Fancy a bet to see who's comes in first?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Thankfully Bitton will never play for Barca.}

"At Celtic you are aspiring to the Champions League. Now we are bringing in players not even close to that level, such as Ryan Christie and young Aidan Nesbitt - but they can be. When you can't buy Champions League quality you have to think who can become that standard.

"That desire is the most important lesson players can learn nowadays. You can be fifth in line in competition for places but does that mean you're going to give up? Now they have to think, 'How am I going to be No.1?'

"There's too much results-obsessed thinking in this country. Everyone is thinking about winning, winning, winning and playing every week because that is what they're taught. You have to win, you have to play all the time. But real winners think, 'How do we win? How do I get better?' Then they do something about it.

"That's the culture I want at Celtic and that is so much improved already. The players are thinking, making their own choices and getting knowledge about everything they need to do to be successful.

"It's not about, 'I need to play', you have to make yourself deserve it.

"And if you can't handle competition you are nothing at Celtic."

Now that Ed is what you've been talking about and why we should be standing by RD.

Spot on. We're never going to be competing with the top clubs when it comes to signing ready made players, but we should be competing with them when it comes to scouting, youth development, fitness, planning etc. We shouldn't need to be buying D Utd's players, Allen from Hibs and Christie from Inverness. For clubs like PSV, Ajax, Benfica, Anderlecht, to name a few, that is practically unheard of. It would almost be like them admitting they are failing. We should be able to do what clubs in these leagues do, they don't earn much from tv either, but their structures are years ahead. Peter Lawwell should have addressed this years ago because it's cost the club millions, we should have a conveyer belt of talent coming through, not the odd player of the level of a James Forrest. No offence to guys like Chris McCart but he has been there about 10 years, we spend roughly £2 million a year on youth development, and all I see is mediocrity. Even clubs like Croatia Zagreb and Partizan Belgrade are bringing through stars worth £20 million every few years. That's how we should be making money to make up for the shortfall in tv revenue. It's not nuclear physics, why in the name of God has this not been addressed before now! We have just got rid of Stevie Frail and the first name we hear as a possible replacement is Pat Fenlon, that sums it up for me. Ronny has to tell Lawwell straight that we need to spend top money and get in someone with a real pedigree of building academies. It's actually embarrassing. If we didn't sign any players for 2 years, and spent £10 million on more indoor facilities at Lennoxtown, and totally restructured our youth set up and coaching I'd be happy, in the short term it would be touch, we'd all be desperate for signings, but we would get the benefits of it for the next decades. All that is far too normal to be fair, so we'll get Pat Fenlon and it will be the status quo. The shortlist has probably got guys like Jim Leishman on it also!

I think a lot of this is just empty rhetoric to hide the fact that we are buying players who are not really good enough for Celtic.
It's okay to talk about motivation and desire, but these qualities alone won't turn bad players into good ones.
The thing that would improve Celtic in my opinion, is to recruit better quality players, to suggest that you can buy the likes of Cifti and turn him into a quality player by getting his attitude right is pulling the wool over supporters eyes.

25 Sep 2015 13:43:16
Anyone can talk a good game, but I seriously doubt we have the coaching ability or experience in Collins and Kennedy etc to improve players to that standard of excellence.
The obvious example are Ajax, who come from a small country, have an average league, but produce and develop an endless string of fine young players who progress to higher levels.
RD needs to employ a higher level of technical coaches if we are to follow this sound example.

I honestly don't mind us buying home based players, don't cost a lot and potentially a future player if not sell them.
It's the likes of Cifti etc I don't agree with signing didn't rate him with Utd.
We've signed many decent home grown players in the past, and I think Christie will be a good one in future

25 Sep 2015 19:01:26
Jungle Jim you are spot on. That apart however we need to be buying better than Cifti. He is an average striker. But I totally agree that if we are to produce players we need to improve our coaching staff

I don't care where we buy them from as long as they can lift their game with us .
Scottish players may be prepared to stay longer with us . I think in a couple of years if everything goes well we will be buying mostly 20 year old and younger .
I think we sometimes credit or blame Lawwell too much over the players we actually sign . I think he goes on solo runs and picks players with merchandise in view .
Park and Deila would pin point most of our signings . I think Armstrong and GMS were Deila's picks

I see in one paper at least that our Ronny has admitted to having difficulties with the squad over his attempts to change things. He is reported to have said that he is disappointed with the reaction of some of the players. Who was it said there was no internal bickering???

Believable3 Unbelievable4

25 Sep 2015 09:52:19
Bad journalism from the paper, all he talks about is his constant talks with players and the importance of differing opinions, however if he keeps having to tell a player what he wants them to do then they'll not be in the hoops. Which is fair enough.

And people say he's not ruthless enough. Yet this morning quotes say he's had stern words with everybody. Look at what he's talking about in the DR with regards to how he's asking and getting players to improve. i.e, Bitton. Yet people say he doesn't know what he's doing. Tactically he has things to learn, more about his own players than anything. The guy will be heralded in years to come and those that want him out will be left well and truely out to dry.

Also funny to see him come out with the stats about Johansen and Brown passing forward. Again people talking trash without any foundation.

25 Sep 2015 13:46:38
He was on yesterday saying he does not know his best back four and the constant shuffling would confirm this.
Surely when a manager identifies a target, he has at least a 'rough idea' of how he fits into the team he is building?
It can't be just a case of 'Here's a group of guys Ronnie, now get on with it!' Can it?

He talks a very, very good game and is very insightful. You always learn something really interesting from listening or reading a Ronny interview and I find them fascinating personally. I do genuinely believe he can back these words up however I still feel he is not ruthless enough with certain players when it comes to team selection.

Two players that spring to mind straight away are Johansen and Boyata. Now imo on currently the in form trio behind the striker should be Forrest, Rogic and Commons, all three played in the rout of Dundee so they should maintain their place for Hearts. With Johansen out of form and performing poorly imo in comparison to what we have seen from Rogic then for the game on Saturday Johansen should take his place on the bench with Rogic starting in the role behind Griffiths. Boyata another who has been shaky and not looked great for me this season. Ambrose has been performing extremely well and should maintain his place at CB alongside Simunovic(If fit)for Hearts and he has been performing well. These are changes however I do not think the manager will make.

25 Sep 2015 15:28:10
You have to remember that it's horses for courses though. Ronny might think this is going to be a battle so he will want battle hardened guys on the pitch. Which may not be our best 11. But will definitely be our hardest tacklers a d solid players.

I think it was great that our manager feels confident enough and is honest enough to say that .
I fully understand how he doesn't know his best defenders Ambrose Suminovic Blacket Boyata Lustig Mulgrew

Mulgrew --seems to have left his club form behind
Suminovic -- not with Celtic long enough to judge , appears to be ok
Blacket -- as above, hasn't had enough game time to be sure.
Boyata -- started quite well with Celtic , prone to mistakes in recent games
Lustig --fans have clamoured to have him play c-b but he hasn't played there often
Ambrose-- fans have howled and shouted at his regular errors , although , he now seems to have cut most out and with him playing centre half we have had back to back clean sheets , something we haven't had often this season .

I reckon that it can't be easy for Deila to know his best pairing just now and we can only hope four or five reasonably good centre defenders , that he gets a top pairing soon
