I see amore than a few Govanites are ridiculing the anniversary celebrations of Lisbon because its 50 years ago. Two comments (1) It's the year that killed the Rangers due to their attempts to repeat the feat and (2) by my reckoning it's 327 years since the Battle of the Boyne which they sing about weekly! God love them the not too brights! ☘️.

Let them ridicule it! For anyone who supports that mob to try and ridicule anyone is laughable! An utter shambles and embarrassment of a 'club' like you said buddy, they tried to chase the dream and look how that turned out! One club dead and buried and the new one with not a pot to piss in looking for the scraps from the champions plate! We've never been in a better place and it's only going to get better! HH πŸ€πŸ€πŸ€πŸ€πŸ€.

I've seen people on social media commenting as if they're watching the game in real time which I find very cringey but the mob from Ibrokes would try and ridicule no matter what so let them have their wee digs because they've had nothing else to smile about this year! HH.

find it rather amusing tbh, i wonder if their fans are embarrased about celebrating at firhill like they just won the champions league, small club, small mentality lads.

I was 7 years old at the time, those players were like Gods to me.
It's still amazing to think that a group of boys all from a 30 odd mile radius of Celtic park could have done what they did, it makes the achievement even more special.
I can only thank them for the pleasure they brought to my family, just seeing them in the Programme let's you see what special people they are.
I would like to spare a thought for those players who have passed on, you will never be forgotten.
To the rest of them, I hope that they have a terrific day, nobody deserves it more.

Went to my very first game in 1962, age six and got the first of many lifts over the turnstile like many fellow posters.
I really consider myself blessed to have been lucky enough to follow and adore Celtic from then-on; The Lions set the benchmark for all others who followed with the unique grand slam of winning every tournament they entered - then a close thing in the San Siro v Feyenoord - nine in a row, the Centenery Celts And many many great memories along the way, including MON's treble and Seville right up to Brendan's unbeatable Bhoys - playing football the lions would be proud of 50 years on.

ED007 on this unique day in our history how about some stories of the Celtic fans who made the journey 50 years ago. Below are some stories my uncles told me.
After the game thousands of Celtic fans a wee bit worse for wear, all congregated at the airport waiting to go home, the Portuguese authorities were overwhelmed and decided the quickest way to disperse the fans was to do away with passport control and ticket checks, if an incoming plane had 150 seats, they counted the first 150 fans and ushered them on board, those more worse for wear than others were carried on to the airplane. One drunken fan woke up mid flight and asked where he was and on being told "don't worry you are on the plane back to Glasgow" to which the bold fan replied "but I travelled over BY CAR"
Another poor Celtic fan had a bad experience after the game, he got separated from all his pals who had his passport and all his cash, so he decided to hitch hike back home across europe, after an hour of no success in getting a lift, a Celtic supporters bus pulled up and offered him a lift, the bold guy asked where was heading to and on being told paisley, he said "No good to me I live in Shettleston".

Well done Man Utd.
But they now automatically go into the CL Group stage even although they finished sixth in their national league.
England now have 5 teams in the CL, 4 of whom will automatically enter at the Group Stage, while teams who actually won their national league have to play qualifying games. DISGUSTING.

Look on the bright side TT

It means if we get there we will have a greater than 1 in 2 chance of drawing an EPL team and I don't fear any of them.

Agree2 Disagree1

25 May 2017 10:19:47
Highly unlikely but theoretically, you could have a team being relegated but due to their previous season position they get into EL then actually win it.
Now we can have a scenario where a relegated team automatically qualifies for CL group stage while national league winners have to play qualifying games. Its wrong, unfair and downright obscene.

Should just be the champions of every country in Europe.

How they can call it the champions league is a joke - at our and every other small nations league winners - expense.

European qualification has always been a bit of a headscratcher. Same for us up here with getting a place after winning the Scottish Cup. That's a bit of a slap in the face for the team who has gone through a whole season and finished higher up in the league.

Stayed up late on a school night to watch the Lions documentary last night. Watching the highlights of that game still makes the hair stand on end (and I don't have many) . I still get on my feet cheering like it was the first time I had seen it.

I was born 8 years later, but I grew up on my uncle's stories about him and his two mates hitchhiking from Belfast to Lisbon. I still have a copy of the black and white photo of them in Portugal. They really didn't have a lot of money, but they made it all the same.

Legends (all of them)
