Hi Ed, Great site!! One of the first I check everyday now.

Re the coaching post, I also think Joe Jordan would be a GREAT addition, but I suppose the club could do without paying another wage.

I think we are being run really well and the transfer policy is spot on, however in order to reach the CL group stage I really think we need an experienced ghuy at the back...surely with the players we have allowed to leave we can attract at least ONE CB (preferably British) with the clout needed. {Ed007's Note - Thanks a lot, and welcome to The Twilight Zone.}

Hi ed was wondering if u could help me with something. I'am thinking about going up to lennoxtown tommorow to try and get Gary hooper to sign my top (incase he leaves) and was wondering if u knew what time the players went in at or what time they leave? Also will I have a chance of getting it signed or will I be wasting my time.
Cheers, Jack the bhoy {Ed007's Note - Most player usually arrive between 9-10 a.m, whether they stop is just your luck mate.}

My sister who works in the argyle street shop has just told me that hooper and commons will be in there on monday for a signing session, maybe JB could confirm it.

Gary Hooper and Kris Commons will be in the Argyle St store on Monday 30th July between 2.30pm and 3.30pm for a signing session. This is a ticket event and tickets can be collected from the following stores:

Argyle St
Sauchiehall St
Superstore

The thing with these signing sessions is they usually only allow the players to sign goods bought in store on that day.

Dear Ed. Do you have any views or information on why Efrain Jaurez was shown the door at Celtic relatively quickly and at great financial loss to the club. In my opinion there are worse players still at the club than him. Neil Lennon seemed to go off him almost overnight. Did it relate to his disciplinary issue with his national team? {Ed007's Note - It was a combination of things, he never settled in the country, like to party and his form just evaporated, basically overnight.}

We look like going into these qualifiers more in hope than expectation and I suspect the Europa League is our real target going by our financial limits and limited squad. The ambition of the club has suffered due to the reduction of transfer funds - unable to manage the fees/wages of class players and the sorry state of our domestic football.
Having watched The Celtic for 50 odd years I have been spoiled with many a great European Cup night and some superb talent, however there have been lean years with little success with managers and players that were not the standard we expected and The Anglo Scottish Cup (or Texaco Cup?) instead of Europe. So I accept we have no divine right to compete in the CL every year, much as it hurts.
I do have a problem however when we take far too long to address blatantly obvious problems in the team like signing ONE accomplished centre back.
It happened a few years ago with the left back slot and surely the manager can see the problem?
While I am on the subject of NL; I said 2 seasons ago that the backroom team was too inexperienced to offer him any tactical or motivational assistance and they tend to look baffled and subdued when NL needs them most and as it appears we are not replacing Alan Thomson, I am still concerned we lack proper managerial support.
I think the situation is more delicate because a few of the ideal candidates may be seen to be too high profile for a young manager's comfort IMO.
Anyway, canny wait for the real season to start....

Jungle Jim,
Great post - agree 100%.
I've posted about our reduction in transfer funds and have been almost derided by some. We need to be realistic in our expectations for new players. I also doubt if we will even replace Thomson? Who knows.
But, like you say - roll on the new season!...........kbt1978

Is there any chance you can move your seat if u have a season ticket ?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Yes. you can submit a request to be moved, but they won't be able to do anything until a couple of weeks after they stop selling season tickets. think all you have to pay is a standard admin fee if they can accomodate you, probably around £10

Hello all not posted in a wee while hope everyone is well.

Disappointed with the result last night but happier with the performance except in the final third. I thought Sammy had an absolute stormer and if he can pick up where we left off last year then what a turnaround he has done. Still a few issues with his final ball, but he has really turned a corner the last 9 months or so.

We are still desperate for a settled solid defence... we looked more solid with Rogne, Lustig and wanyama back there. and i rekon if we put charlie in there and put victor into midfield then we are not too bad, but definately need someone with a bit more to offer in there.

Midfield wise i thought Mccort wwas brilliant in the role he played last night. He was playing the sort of Xavi/iniesta role with twardzik and i felt they were very very effective, just ashame that going forward the others were a bit lacking in their final ball.after these 2 shuttled it out to them.. so promising signs there.

up top well we were a bit of a damp squib.. Commons suits that free to roam role through the middle and although Murphy looks like a grafter he doesnt have the skill needed to be a success infront of goal. Hooper looks like hes in preseason cruise mode and he always seems to take a while to get going. We know he is good but we need someone else of a similar standard with slightly different attributes i.e a wee bitty more burly our just out and out quick to compliment him and provide real competition.

We have the foundations of a good team, we have seen it over the last year in some sporradic performances... It is still early days this season but we really need to step it up again against Inter.. which i think we will. But it has proved this preseason we need just a little more class at the back and up top to really make a dent and become as close to the finished article as we are going to be for now.

Forster so far has saved our blushes in a few games, he is looking more and more like the real deal IMO. We always knew he was good, but his all round game is coming on and he seems to be quicker at getting down low which i thought was one of his weaknesses ( well it would be when you are a giant).

All and all no panic yet. We need to beat HJK at least cos we need European football for the people we do have to progress up to the level we know they can play at. Once this team finds its consitency again we could be a decent match for anyone ... well in the Europa League anyways.

So bring it on... lets just get this season bloody started! I cant wait.. Get all this crap behind us now and get on with it, do it for ourselves and do it for the scottish game.... no pressure there then

try sign the dundee united pair
Gary Mackay-Steven & Johnny Russell
, and as for last night i dont think peole

Mo bangura is completely s**** he needs to be realised or sold he will never get better. In games he gets the ball in a good position and try's some tricks and f***s it up!!! I'm assamed he's in a Celtic jersey!! Rant over

Believable3 Unbelievable3

Calm down he wasnt that bad fs

Agree3 Disagree2

Simmer down hes getting better every time he plays. Could be worse, could have murphy playing all the time

Agree2 Disagree2

Why is Neil Lennon persisting in playing Daryl Murphy ? he is clearly not up to playing for Celtic , he does not give Morten Rasmussen a chance and he is a better goalscorer than Mo Bangura or Daryl Murphy , Kelvin Wilson is very poor also , looks like he got him and Mark Wilson mixed up , if we don't get a centre back signed soon in cant see us progressing in the champions league .

Awrite ed hows ur good self?. wot do u think about paddys performance lastnight I know it was just a friendly but thought he looked fitter and a bit more pace and his passing was really good and playing in the Center aswell. Thought it was a good game lastnight and we were very unlucky.

Paulbhoy010 {Ed007's Note - He played well but I wouldn't risk him in there in CL qualifiers.}

Evening Ed

Few positives to take from tonight's match v Norwich,

McCourt - looked fit and confortable in a holding midfield role whilst spreading the ball about, perhaps a new role for him

Rogne - Didnt get too troubled by the strikers, put himself aboit well, probably wont face anyone as difficult as Holt all season.

Twardzik - Kid played really well and looked really comfortable, my problem is I think he's been in the the last 3 or 4 preseason squads, is he going to be given a chance or is it time up?

Samaras - played well for the majority of the game, missed a few guilt edge chances, however for game 1 of preseason it was really impressive, particularly skinning Whittaker (Stevie walked away, walked away!)

Personally with a few tweeks I think we should be comfortable against HJK next wednesday, I'd go with the below to start on Wednesday going on preseason

Forster
Izzy Mulgrew Rogne Matthews
Forrest Brown Kayal Samaras
Commons
Hooper

Bench
Zaluska/Thomson (depending.on how Lukas is)
Wanyama
Stokes
McCourt
Watt
Ibrahim
Ledley

Only reason ledley starts on the bench is becuase Nrown will captain and replace him

Its a strong side but we still need 2 centrebacks and a striker to have a good go at the group stages of the CL!

Found myself staring right at Stan Petrov today in Bloomsbury Sq, London. He looked like he was having treatment that day. Guy looks ill but you can see the strength in his eyes. So wanted to wish him luck but felt I'd be intruding. Get well soon Stan, you're a legend.

Left celtic Park tonight more anoyed than anything .
I didn't think we deserved to lose but i don't think our coaching staff have a clue about positional play as we never seemed to have a striker in the box .

I dont know what Gary Parker does standing at the touchline with his notepad ,

When we are attacking we seem to have 2 defenders and 8 midfield players our strikers keep dropping back to get the ball and we have nothing going forward . How many time's did we play a long ball out of defence for no one to be up front to chase the ball down .

We might have hit the bar twise but we didn't look like scoring

We need someone on the bench with more tactical knowledge ,

Lennon was not seen tonight don't know if he was away but we looked lost tonight.

People will disagree but i'd ask strachen to join the backroom staff again

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Less than two years we were calling for Lennon to go. He got a break by winning the title via a shambles involving the only team that could possibly challenge.

He lost to Hearts in the cup, he achieved nothing in Europe, the team tactics are a mystery.

Let's face it guys we will do nothing in Europe this time either.

We need a management team that HAS A CLUE about tacitcs and man managment.

Agree2 Disagree1

As a coach myself I always have a notepad at the ready so I can write important in play things down so as not to forget in the heat of a team talk either at halftime or preparing for the next game. Most modern coaches do. You usually see mourinho scribbling during a game. But do agree we need some more experiance in the back helping with the coaching.

I know it is only pre-season but we look very, very poor at the back and going forward. It's only a week until our the first leg of our qualifier and we have to come flying out the blocks. In 10 halfs of football we have only managed to score in 1 of them! We need a centre back and a striker by this time next week or we will struggle against even average opposition. Mensah would be ideal and people slagging simon cox have to realise that he plays in a league that is 10 times better than ours and has played well at international level.

Hi Ed

just watched the match, a really decent match considering its pre season, quite tasty at times as well. considering it was quite a changed team I thought the lads who stepped up did really well. I feel the least we deserved was a draw. A bit of a worry with big Fraser at the end, hope he's ok, but in Zaluska we have an able deputy (as long as the eye is ok)!

I think we should approach Arsenal with a view to taking Sebastien Squillaci on loan , he is 31 over 6ft tall with the experience of International football , top flight in France , Spain and England , he reads the game well , is good in the air and on the deck , given that he is down the pecking order at Arsenal he could prove a good addition to our defence , what do you think ed ?
