Does our signing policy, in particular the amount of 'say' our manager (whoever that may be) has in who comes to paradise ever get asked?
I for one feel the manager must have the final Word on all incoming/ outgoing players (unless the players want away) and can therefore be held accountable for the success/ failure.
The board should consider this ability when it comes to appointments and they can therefore be held accountable for their choice of manager's failure/ success.

I personally like Ronnie, although i appreciate the relatively poor season (by our own high expectations) has missed the mark, however I still believe that he can take us forward.
I do not see any realistic better choice, however this is not justification to keep a failing appointment.
Celtic is not a club to learn your trade as a manager, but like it our not that's exactly what we've done for the last two appointments.
Let's clutch in to the fact Ronnie is here for another year and back him to the hilt.
Faithfull through and through.

Agree Island Celt, board really ballsed up in Summer by not supporting RD more. Until Pochettino wakes up and realises he needs to be gubbin Accies on a Baltuc Friday night, RD will be best (it's not a popular opinion on here with many) candidate available. Hopefully we get a result the morra and would like to see Roberts and Christie and if available, Janko start. If we make the right cuts in midfield and get a strong partnership between Jozo ans Chenko, reckon Cl qualification will be Gordon's to lose. Looking forward to seeing this new club up in thetop flight next season, can't remember their name but they've made pretty steady progress through the lower leagues ;)

25 Feb 2016 21:04:40
It does appear he's been given more time but imagine he doesn't win the cup and say loses to Rangers the atmosphere IMO would get nasty and how can you keep a man who would be seen by a lot of fans as not good enough. The same anger would happen if he failed miserably in European qualifiers again and what do we do say he deserves to see out the season?

25 Feb 2016 21:05:18
Load of nonsense, if you pardon me saying so. No club owner or club board is going to allow their manager to set his budget . At best a manager can indicate his targets but someone else within the club has the final decision as to whether such and such a target can be brought in within all budgets .
When MO'N came into Celtic he charmed D D into spending more money than was wise and P. L was brought in to control the expenditure .

Agree1 Disagree3

25 Feb 2016 22:51:14
Hahaha have you listened to yourself old boy? No owner or club allow a manager to know their budget unless obviously your a silver tongue fox like Martin o Neil and you can charm them . Hahahaha that's made me laugh.

Agree0 Disagree2

26 Feb 2016 04:16:46
did it still make you laugh when you realized he said set their own budget rather than know his own budget ha ha wait what derp lol.

Agree2 Disagree0

26 Feb 2016 07:22:19
My point was not intended to suggest a manager 'set' his budget, but he should have the majority say in how the transfer kitty is spent.
If the fee/ wages package of a potential recruit fit in with club policy then I believe the only person who should approve is the manager, preferably after they've met.
I'm all for a chief scout (as long as he is suited to the task! ) but he should identify the targets based upon the requirements of the manager/ team.

I agree, should the worse case scenario; no league flag, Scottish cup, Championsleague qualification, poor results against the club that shall not be named, be realised then RD's position is untenable and he would have to go, however we don't have a crystal ball and at present it seems the board will stick with the current set up.
I would want him gone if we lost the league. I could cope with no Scottish cup as I can't see a suitable realistic alternative, and I also think RD will turn it round.

What's everyone's opinion on the reverse of your scenario happening?
Will we win:
League
Scottish cup
Champions league qualification

Bear in mind, if your first pick eleven are still here come summer? (And we sign a first pick goalkeeper)

26 Feb 2016 09:28:13
I think the club has succeeded in brainwashing a lot of fans by instilling a 'small club' mentality with lower expectations.
Those of us who have been fortunate enough to have 4,5,and 6 decades of supporting Celtic have seen what a huge club we are [and can be] if the right men are a] in charge and b] playing on the park - even with a board notorious for penny pinching and lack of foresight or building from a position of strength.
There is an incompetence and lethargy running right through the club, from the standard of player being scouted/ signed to the loss of form of half the squad; or from an acceptance of European obscurity to believing all will be well when Sevco arrive.
You just have to look at the standard of football and falling attendances to appreciate that a lot of the people are not being fooled most of the time.

Agree3 Disagree0

26 Feb 2016 11:00:16
I agree Jungle Jim 2. No matter what anyones view is on any manager in charge, things will not improve untill there are significant changes in both ownership and boardroom. mainly Lawwell.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Feb 2016 12:47:24
That's the problem dn you want to change owners yet no one wants to buy us and the current owners trust lawwell. I believe Ronny has failed to win over fans with his vision and empty spaces at Celtic park and hampden for a semi final back me up. European results have been poor and the squad has been bloated beyond belief when he stated he would prefer a smaller squad yet says everyone has a future ( stokes Forrest Cole Allan izzy etc ) a new manager has the potential to get better out our squad IMO

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Feb 2016 12:49:14
I agree with everything you say there Jungle Jim 2, there doesn't seem to be much ambition being shown at the club right now.
I've said it before, but it looks to me as if their ultimate ambition is to win the league by a single point, so in their eyes we have done enough to win it, but not spent anything more than what is needed.
I would like to see some ambition shown for what Celtic could achieve on the park. This current board seem to define success as making a profit when selling a player.
Whether we think fans staying away is right or wrong, it's inevitable some of them will if things don't change. I don't want to get to the time when the top tie at the ground is shut for league matches as well as cup ties, but sadly I don't think that it will be far off unless the board start doing something positive.

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Feb 2016 15:01:22
I would be happy winning the league by a single point as long as we were entertaining on the park, however every time I finish watching a game this season my wife asks me 'why do you bother watching? It just upsets you! '
She may have a point.
Competition is great when everyone is playing to a high standard, but when competition occurs as a result of our performance levels dropping its frustrating.
That been said the sheep have consistently improved over the last few years but we should still be better than what we are.

Wee Thursday question. I'd like to ask what people's choices would be for their favourite ever kits -

Celtic.
Other Club.
International.

Mine would be - Celtic Black Magic, Inter 2010 Away, Denmark 1986 Away.

What would your choices be Ed?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - The original bumblebee top is a favourite of mine, Man Utd's gold/green strip from the 90s and the Republic's white away top from round about 2006.}

25 Feb 2016 20:30:56
Bumblebee
Newcastle 95/ 96
Mexico Keeper at USA '94.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Feb 2016 20:51:47
I liked the original emerald green one of the eighties big thick white v neck 80s (think it was my first away top)

Liverpool away one of the 00s 4 bug square Green and White

Liked the Scotland dark top with the little bit of Tartan through it

Anybody saying the Juve away PINK one wants to have a lie down in a dark room lol

Surely that cannot be beat as the HOWLER?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I don't know, that Peoples one we had in the 90s was hideous.}

PMSL Aye that was the one your mam washed and it didny matter if the colours ran on it :P.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I'm sure if you look back at old pictures in the papers it looked as if it was brown at the top. It was an absolute riot though probably would have been a decent GK top.}

25 Feb 2016 21:47:29
Centenary home
Man u home ( possibly 96/ 97, old Trafford superimposed on it )
Argentina home 2002 world cup
Was only about 19 and bought the man u top to go on my first bhoys holiday to Tenerife, first night I wore it we wandered into linker, s bar, the whole bar ( which was packed ) started booing and chanting"scum ", we didn't stay long, lol 😁.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I love getting a reaction like that when I walk into a place, you can tell you're going to have a good night lol. I was going to pick that Utd top myself, I'm sure t was from '94 (didn't they wear it for the Maestro's testimonial?).}

25 Feb 2016 21:54:36
I was the proud owner of the peoples away jersey you speak of, infact it could be stashed away in the roofspace. Will be wore again when I get the call from the dark side of the moon. I'd imagine tightness in the waist area could be an advantage if I'm to be torpedoed to the sister ship.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Feb 2016 22:28:22
You might be right ed I'm 42 now so would have been 19/ 20 in 94, I can tell you I thought we were in for a kicking and a half but after a bit of banter they were ok, still we didn't hang around long, funny thing is I'm not even a fan of any English team, the top had just came out a couple of days before we left and I thought it looked really smart, later on the same night one of the other bar owners bugged me for about 2 hours trying to buy it off me for 120 quid, which was about 3 times what I paid for it .

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I'd have took his hand off.}

25 Feb 2016 22:49:57
To be honest no one had seen it before as like I was saying it was only released a couple of days earlier and without any social media in those days we were able to persuade a few of the opposite sex the reason I had it was that I played in man u 's reserve/ youth team, believe me the 120 quid could not have even come close to buying those memories 😉.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Tut tut. I had a pal that used to try and pass himself off as Paul Scholes and I was his minder. It didn't make any difference right enough, a ginger's a ginger when it comes to pulling women and he had the freckles to go with the hair.

26 Feb 2016 00:07:16
PMSL must be an age thing this! Am 43

My pal tried to pass me off as Maurice Johnston! A needed a fargin minder and I can handle myself lol

Did work one night right enough ;)

{Ed007's Note - Oooft. I'd rather look like Davie Dodds bawsack than Judas!}

26 Feb 2016 07:37:56
How about that purple strip Scotland away top back in the 90's - horrendous

Maradonna's 1986 Argentina home for me
Celtic 88
Raith rovers home 1987 (excuse the red white and blue link! )

26 Feb 2016 09:30:21
My all-time favourite Celtic top [which I have framed] is the pin-stripe green/ black/ white, with collar - without sponsor.
It can be a football shirt or a natty wee casual ha ha.

25 Feb 2016 01:29:54
Do people forget what commons Forrest lustig brown mulgrew izzy and even bitton have done for this club not only domestic and against old rangers but Europe also the differences now are they haven't got a ki Ledley wanyama Wilson foster mattews samaras Hooper what have they now 2 ex dundee utd another dundee utd out on loan an ex hibs player Allen ok griff is great but he's not played long Allen an ex ict player a man city loane a man city ex CB who WILL be the next efe THIS is the reason our standard has dropped overall if you sign lesser player it WILL creep in.

Believable2 Unbelievable3

25 Feb 2016 08:21:38
i kind of agree mate. Forrest hasn't done anything for me and I would like to know who's idea it was to offer him a lucrative 4 year deal. And leave it on the table. Mulgrew and izzy have done there bit, but time to move at least one if not both on. Lustig like the above players has also struggled with injury but like izzy and mulgrew has done a job for us. As for commons I don't understand why there is such a rush to get rid of a proven exciting talented footballer. Since he joined us he has been consistently one of our finest players. He turned the full season around last year. And it just seems that to many people have decided that un proven new signings are better than a man who has been a fantastic signing and at times the only player worth watching. My concern is moving forwards. Whoever is in charge of player recruitment be it pl jp or rd is getting things consistently wrong. If we continue to move on any Half decent player and bring in the type of players we have done for the past 2 years then there is no telling how far back we will slide. Christie Allan Roberts may turn out to be good players but two of them will really have to step up a few levels and the other one isn't even our player.

Agree5 Disagree0

25 Feb 2016 09:48:22
Spot on just hope RD has the same respect for them players.

Agree1 Disagree1

25 Feb 2016 11:27:34
a big problem for me is that the players you mention plus Stokes [who has had his problems], have all lost form - or even worse interest - this season and are nowhere near the players they can be.
The club has been ripped of any playing assets for a while now and the standard of replacement has undoubtedly decreased and although we may have a few potentially good prospects, we are bereft of real quality and experience [even in the coaching side] to develop them.
I have been worried about the direction we have taken since Rangers died in 2012 and there does not seem to be any such concerns or solutions on offer from the people we trust to run our club.

Agree3 Disagree0

25 Feb 2016 21:58:10
Paddymaguire, as a matter of interest could you tell us the names of the top players Celtic have moved on over the last five years that haven't previously insisted on been sold .
Do you think that the club would be better served by keeping top players against their will.
I await your early clarification.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Feb 2016 22:09:35
I've got no problem with players moving on just don't replace them with inferior ones like cifci Allen gms Armstrong boyata Christie scepovic and if we move on commons Forrest izzy mulgrew brown bitton lustig griff Johansson or even Kt none of which are RD signings do you have any faith in what's gona replace them.
