Cracking top the Sporting Lisbon top TIM. Had one years ago. Do you know where the term TIM came from?

Agree1 Disagree2

25 Aug 2018 20:39:20
@JFP1888 say 3 hail mary's and do some other pennance.
Do you think maybe, perhaps there is a wee clue in my tag "Timalloy"
The "Timalloys" were formed in the Calton as the Catholic alternative to the "Billy Boys"
Over time the word got shortened to just "TIM" a term for a Catholic in that area of Glasgow and is now universal.

Agree0 Disagree2

25 Aug 2018 21:12:30
Thanks TIM. The term TIM was coined by the Scottish press at the time of the famine to express the disdain of Scottish Protestants at the influx of Irish Catholics or the The Irish Migrant which gave rise to the acronym TIM to save ink and letters. So get yourself to confession and I’ll come as well TIM! ☘️👍.

Agree1 Disagree2

25 Aug 2018 21:32:05
Yes JFP a lot of different accounts. But I agree about the term "Tim" being used as an insult, but typically we took it on board as a sense of Pride in where we came from hail hail Mary lol.

This is a wee bit random, but if anyone knows the deal with this please enlighten me!

For years now, going back to the days of Sutton smashing in volleys against Juve, when playing in Europe, the Bhoys have worn their numbers on their backs on top of a white patch. This has continued until it seems, this season.

So firstly, was the white patch just some uefa rule? And anyone know why we haven't worn that style of number in Europe this season?

Would love to get my hands on one of those shirts but doesn't look like they are made for sale.

Any info welcome from you knowledgeable lot!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

25 Aug 2018 17:20:45
They had to have their shirts like that so the referee can see their numbers more clearly.

Ye it's an UEFA rule. Can mind fans moaning about it when it came in.

Used to like the strips like that wi the numbers on the shorts.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Aug 2018 20:07:36
I don’t think we had numbers on jersey at all when I was a laddie only on shorts but that was a problem in Europe?

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Aug 2018 20:20:14
Can vaguely remember black numbers going on some euro nights. Can remember the 1st number I got
9 for dziekanowski lol I was getting 7 for Joe Miller then he worse 9 in the final v rangers so settled on 9 on the strip that looked like wallpaper.

@jfp I seem to remember is starting a season in the 90’s with numbers on our sleeves so as not to break up the hoops. Think thst was the first time we were made to wear shirt numbers. Could be speaking crap though!

OE out for another while dembeles head will be turned and ntcham will be away before Friday how did it get so bad and its only going to worse with the sound of. Can't for the life of me think how the boards got it so wrong and BR always shouting "quality" wee can't afford the "quality" he craves or wants. Not seen so many negative posts so I can't be the only one that's noticed some fans in here saying about not getting a results against acces my god has this got bad if wee signed the players wee were linked with wee would be miles ahead but NAW no investment means bad investment plus don't know how were going to pay 75 mil in wages this year but if OE MD ON leave this season will take that down abit wee need to get cheap players make them great sell on for good profit n that will help our finances n don't know if it's true but parkhead needs major work done on it anybody else heard this hopefully get a few signings in by Friday cheers us lot up.

I agree with Welshbhoy, it is time to look AHEAD and not back, put our trust in Rodgers to deliver some much needed new faces.
We have 3 home games coming up, with hopefully 3 good victories.
We need everybody pulling together now, the press are enjoying our so called troubles and bigging up a poor Sevco side. Let's put them all in their place.

Not going to happen the board won’t back him with any decent cash especially after crashing out of the champions league. And I for one would like to know where all the money has gone over the last 5 or 6 years because we haven’t spent a lot in reality! And we have made a fortune in revenue I’m smelling a rat again inside the boardroom.

Last day of York, let's try and make some dosh. Put my horses up on the Football Rumours bet page already but
best bet should be in York 3.00
Expert Eye 11/ 10
A couple of bigger price horses are
York 3.40 Mustajeer 33/ 1 (sly paying 7 places)
Goodwood 3.15 Truth or Dare 14/ 1 (sly going 5 places)
Do each way singles and each way double.

Bain
Gamboa Hendry Ajer Izzy
Ntcham Kouassi
Hayes Rogic Sinclair
Griffiths.

Exactly Stephbhoy2. Rest players? We are hardly playing a European gaint on Thursday. It's consistency we now at the min. I know l might get shot for this but if Scott Allan is not going to go out on loan is it not worth giving him a chance as the guy has an eye for a pass. He did well for hibs last season on loan. I won't have kouassi anywhere near the side. Unfortunately for me all he seems to do is pass sideways.

We could have our lot, but I don't think B R or PL come out of this well. B R was more than satisfied with the 5 players who came in Jan .
Many think these five were a waste of money . Unless Board has told P L not to buy more until we get rid of most of the 5 then he must try to bring in the players B R requests .
We cannot continue if it is thought Brendan and Peter don't have a good working relationship.

But come on bhoys this team win back to back trebles and are having a dip in form when back firing we will wipe the floor with all in front of us in the league. Who cares what’s going on with the manky mob let them get on with it they don’t define us.

Welshybhoy it’s depressing stuff on here. Hope BR doesn’t read banter page or he’ll need talked down off the main stand roof. It’s disappointing not to have freshened up the squad and going out Champions League but it is what it is. Brendan’s demeanour is concerning though and I think him and the rest of us have been let down by the board. It looks so far like the Govanites are better prepared than last year but only time will tell and we’re not firing on all cylinders yet. Add that to our central defensive issues and Brown being suspended particularly as battle was lost in midfield the other night means the 2nd of September is no foregone conclusion. The plan must be to play to our strengths and take the game to them as (1) we’ve got the best front three players we’ve had in a long time and (2) the worst central defence in my time watching Celtic. The league will be won or lost over a season and we’re not out of August yet. Keep the Faith!

Agree2 Disagree0

25 Aug 2018 12:11:54
Am I missing something, how is brown suspended? I admire your positivity welshy I really do mate. but somethings just not rite the now from the board down to the team. this transfer window has been an absolute disaster and I don’t think anyone of us can honestly say that from now til the window shuts its going to get any better. we have a squad that was badly needin freshened up and a defence that was needing overhauled and none of that has happened! We’ve went stale and again shot ourselves in the foot from a fantastic position of power! The board has and always will take us fans for granted and I for one am sick of it! We’ve the best manager we’ve had in a long time and he’s got one arm tied behind his back! And it would not surprise me in the slightest if the guy walked at the end of this season, because let’s face it we’ll be back in the exact same position this time next year to! Because if we’re not willing to back the manager after 6 trophies in a row then we never will! My support for Celtic will never go away, but I cannot say the same for clowns in our boardroom! Arrogance and utter incompetence has led to this and like I said, I’m sick of it!

Agree5 Disagree1

25 Aug 2018 12:11:55
It's been a shaky start - defensively especially - with the Boyata farce added to the disappointment of missing out on new arrivals and going out of the CL; however, it is still only August and if the players start to perform as they can, we will get back on track.
My main concern, is a goalkeeper and defense that ANY opponent we play against can score and until the forward players start to create and score the way we know they will, it gives opposition confidence.
Big Jock had a philosophy of ensuring our priority was to score more than the other team and that would suit all of us right now.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2018 12:15:01
WB I agree with you although the defensive mistakes against aek home&away and against partick&suduva are worrying however I'll always get behind the bhoys I think many of us comment on here to soon after a poor display maybe we should give it 24 hours before we comment just so the emotions are calmed down hh bhoys.

Before the end of last season Boyota should have had an ultimatum sign the new contract or be sold. Then we could have got a centre half in for the champions league qualifiers. To lose 9million is just poor management if we keep a player who doesn’t want to be here, and we force him to stay. Also if we spent the whole transfer kitty on Edouard is just plain bonkers, understand Edouard transfer if Dembele was getting sold.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2018 10:10:08
Celtic fan just usually read but thought I'd post.
Forum saying we never won the league last year with much points. This was only because we had so many draws that's all. Wcould not break teams down properly missed sitters etc. BR knows this.
My point is the goals lost ratio to goals scored our forward miss to many we do create chances constantly so then our defence gets pressured.
Maybe if our forwards started scoring goals for fun the defence would not seem do bad. Don't get me started on sevco there defence is crap.
The hype is shocking. There Aberdeen game where they drew Aberdeen played garbage sevco can't beat a crap Aberdeen team they used to always beat remember us fellow Celtic fans always say the sheep lie down to them enough said.
Celtic should have had this year's league all organised players in players out. We all know BR Is well organised and forward thinking etc.
So he has slipped up here its not like him.
Europa league great but it's no second choice it's a gd level. We still pump well above our weight so let's stay positive. If Brandon goes so be it players come players go it's a business we need to make money. A wee win on Sunday will reset us but as I said if our forwards stop missing so many sitters it will relieve pressure on our defence hail hail 😍
Enjoy our success.

what about bringin John Terry in?
it's well known he likes the club, massively experienced and a winner. could be just what we need to sort out that defence right now.
I also think we could do a lot worse than bring in the likes of James Morrison (whos has fallen out of the first team at West Brom this season)

How will quality be defined . spl quality . man city reserve quality. injury prone over the hill german 2nd division quality . or will we be shocked to our bones and get 4 who are better quality than already here . I predict a project a loan an injury prone gamble and bringing back Mulgrew to cover for Izzy just in case.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2018 10:39:13
DRB good point what is quality? Tell you what its not. Its not a Hayes, Compper, Hendry, Allan, Christie who all by the way excelled at SPL clubs. So a great question DRB.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2018 11:34:06
Quality to me is not the cost of the player but must be better than what we have in any position I just hope its defence firstly.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2018 12:15:59
Quality to me is better than what we already have. If we can't bring that then we are better keeping our money.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2018 13:10:01
Quality is 1st team starter/ pressuring 1st team starter. We can loan a RW maybe even a CM but the money needs spent in defence a loan isn't good enough as it isn't solving the issue it's only delaying it until the following season only to ignore it again. But it'll be a cheap panic buy. Hendry or Compper isn't quality. Ideally someone better than Simunovic and not too young. And if Boyata goes someone to replace him too. Still need a RB for Europe though as Lustig isn't good enough and Gamboa is good going forward but weak defensively.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2018 09:37:23
Cards on the table time for BR at Celtic, 3 home games in a row and we won't win them all, this team are weak and have no guts, we will likely beat accies on sunday but can see us dropping points to Suduva and them next sunday. As for the last week of the window we will be lucky to see 1 or 2 incomings and you can bet yer arse 1 of them will be a loan from City. my prediction is BR will walk before the end of the season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Aug 2018 09:49:26
Are you serious,
This team is weak . It's still the same squad that won the double treble minus 2 players who spent a large part of last season out injured.
We haven't started too great at the back but once we settle I believe we will get back to our winning ways .
Look at our pre season the manager worked on another formation based on doumbele and Eddie up front which looked good but one or the other has been injured.
Give us a chance to get our feet back on the ground .
Too much misery coming from the fans just now all being driven by the media.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2018 09:55:40
Drop points to Suduva? Its a qualifier and we will win that. Celtic park as in the fans will make sure that the team win that game. We should beat Hamilton. Logically speaking, unfortunately its the game on the 2nd that worries me the most, the whole game as a whole is a different type, none like it, they will be fired up and we need to be so much better than we have been at the start of this season. I honestly think absolutely no one will come in and my gut tells me there is something going on behind the scenes and its all about to end in tears.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2018 13:17:02
MD and OE is key to us winning the league again. If we can keep both fit and playing together then we will win a lot of those games we drew last season. With Hamilton and Suduva next at home we should boost confidence by battering both of those and hopefully we will see the arrival of 3-4 quality signings (As expected by BR) to give us a boost going in to the hunskelping. Just a shame as if reports are true about BR wanting McGinn, Schar and Piccini that would've been most our issues sorted long ago.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2018 19:02:43
In response to my error. yes i am aware its a qualifier and meant i think we could come unstuck because like the Newcastle of keegans time the front players need to score 3 or 4 to account for the fact our defenders and rubbish keeper couldn’t keep a clean sheet if their lives depended on it. i also believe the orcs will take 1 or god forbid all 3 points next sunday. The fact people reference back to dbl treble winners etc etc. i wint be blinded to think this team is capable of stepping back up to the plate this time around. spineless persons the lot of them. if as i expect the board don't give BR the players he has been crying out for. we will be looking for a new manager. long before the bext window arrives.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2018 23:03:22
It's annoying to hear people just assume because we done it last 2 seasons it's our God forbidden right to do it again. The teams soft in defence. Gordon can't be trusted we've weakened midfield and the injury crisis up front is concerning as I'd the fact we can't finish teams off or breakdown packed defences. Ifor we play like we can then we should take some beating but we don't often play like that and too many passive games last season where we didn't have intensity or missed too many chances can happen just the same as this season unless somethings done about it and the teams freshened up. Way too many players not good enough or surplus and will be wage thieves surely we can off load and generate some money to get in decent players. I agree with you PFB especially with the cut throat EPL it'll only be a matter of time before someone sacks their manager and enquires about BR. And if he feels like he hasn't been backed and took us as far as he can then he'll leave.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2018 09:07:21
havent had the best transfer window but its not over yet and some people on here need a wee reality check and realise how difficult it is to get quality signings up here when league one teams can offer better wages with the Sky money down south. BR said we have lost out on 2 of our top 3 targets and Eddy was one of them. I assume McGinn was another. anyone know the 3rd?
i have in BR and faith in our club. we have come way to far to let a 3 game winless run derail us. don't believe the hype from castle greyskull. they are completely overrated and are two injuries away from an absolute crisis. 2nd september will be then reality check everyone needs! HH!

Claiming it’s not the best window, is a bit if an understatement. There hasn’t been one signing in it. I would say that a terrible window, which caused us to play a defence not fit for anything. That’s scandalous. It’s bit as if we didn’t know they were hopeles. Hoping they coukd do it has cost us £65m. That’s a crime if negligence, nothing less.

Now I take your point that if we bring in quality then we will stop the situation deteriorating even more. That doesn’t let the board off the hook. The damage caused is there and will be in next years balance sheet. It’s damage limitation rather than moving up a gear. If anybody is happy with that then it’s not only the board who lack ambutuin.

Yayo its not the Board. We have had the funds to go out and build a team. Our wage bill is £57mill. Aberdeens wage bill is £9mill. Hibs and Hearts about the same. Eddy cost £9mill and before you tell me we sold Armstrong for £7mill, what does that matter? We are spending more on 1 player than every team in the SPL (Rangers apart) have spent on their entire squad this transfer window. Just think about that. Rangers have built an entire new team for £9mill, so wake up. BR has been backed and backed again. Major mistakes was to spend £9mill on Eddy before he spent the money on 2 CB, s. We could have had 2 CB, s and McGinnfor £9mill. We should then have sold Boyata for £9mill to Fulham and we get all of our spend back. then we would not be having this discussion. These are decisions BR is making and he has got it totally wrong. BR is getting away with it because he has highlighted his need for players to the Board via the media. What the Board could say is that before BR came in our wage bill was £32mill, now its £57mill last season and will be £62mill this season. The thing is a mess, and it was avoidable. I can't see the point in BR pressuring the Board with his comments regarding transfers. I think he was out of order. He is a great coach but in my opinion he has dropped a big one this window. There may be things behind the scenes that went wrong we don't know about but you can't just say its the Boards fault because they did not just keep giving BR more money? Where does it stop? How much is enough. Well in most businesses its enough when you spend more than you generate and we are at that point. BR needs to get on with it. He has a squad that are paid more money in wages than Aberdeen Hibs and Hearts turn over in an entire season yet here we are wirrying that we might not win the SPL. Give me strength.

No way our player wage bill can be as high as £57m a year.
Don't know how many first team player we have. but say we have 30.

10 on say £25.000 pw = £12.5m
10 on £2o 000 pw = £10m
10 on £15.000 pw = £7.5m

Player costs. £30m

Brenden/ coaching staff. £4m
Think I have been generous with players wages.

That's a total off £34m on playing and coaching staff.

With Celtics near £100m turnover last season I think Brendan should be more demanding with the board.

{Ed007's Note - Our wage bill is £52 million a year but remember that covers every single employee at the Club not just playing staff.}

So there you are Bennybhoy. Ed says £52mill but that was last season. Its going to be £57mill this season. So now what do you want us to do? We will turnover about £70 mill and wages alone £57mill. Then all other costs on top of that. Its not sustainable in the long term. So how has BR not been backed. As i said our wage bill alone is more than Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen turnover. We should be out of sight every season which to be fair we have been for 7 years but adding more to the costs?

I'm hoping there's a serious fan turn against the board. It's not ideal but start boycotting home matches.

Why are you putting them on some sort of duelling level with us? If we lose it will be points dropped against a team in our league. It would be poor because they have strengthened the team while we have not. let's all remember this is not rangers (IL) they died.

Sorry but suggesting to boycott home matches is a disgrace! what good would that do? its times like this we should do the actual opposite, pack the place out, show the players we are right behind them and spur them on. that's what real celtic fans do! we've just done a double double! its a minor bump in the road and the transfer window isn't closed yet. just you watch, after the old firm game the tune will drastically change it will be the reality check Sevco and a lot of our fans actually need!

MJMD I will tell you what is a disgrace - using that tag.

{Ed001's Note - what is it? I am never good at figuring out initials and Ed007 is not about to check them with. He might not be about a bit as he is dealing with a family bereavement at the moment, so I will need to rely on you lot to point out any thing that is out of order.}

paythefacepainter what's wrong with my tag?

Think he meant calling it an “old firm” game, it’s a Glasgow derby😉.

We should never boycott the games. We should give the board pelters thoughvwhikst at it if they don’t get in defenders. They aren’t accountable for their actions, we have no power other than vocally kettubgvrhem know their dithering kacknif ambition is a betrayal of us all. It’s not Compère, or Hendry, or Siimo’s fault, it’s who bought them and who failed to replace them. Nobody is the slightest bit surprised our defence fecked us up. That’s the crime here. Buying duds and failing to rectify it is.
