I posted a while ago about the boy Besic but it seems he has signed for Everton. Think we missed the boat there as fee not huge I believe and he has huge potential. Any ideas on the players Ronny might be targeting Ed? Seems very quiet and only Forster and Virgil getting linked away which is frustrating. What are your feelings on these two also Ed? Do you think they will go and if so do you think Ronny will get the money to spend?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I've no idea of any targets yet except the loan offer to take Atsu with Chelsea, sorry bud. I wouldn't be surprised to see both Forster and van Dijk leaving but I wouldn't be surprised if the stayed, there's reasons for both. No way will Deila get all the money to spend, not on the team anyway, some of it might go on improvements behind the scenes he wants to make and he will surely be allowed to spend some decent money on 2 or 3 new players. There's good players out there for £4 million or less, Besic being one of them. Just imagine a midfield 3 of Brown-----Besic-----Johansen? The deal to Everton isn't finalised yet, there has been trouble with a work permit but it should be sorted out any day now.}

Cheers ED. Yes mate, I really like the look of that midfield as I feel it would really suit the way Ronny wants to play. Solid midfield trio with some bite with pace in the wide areas to hit on the counter ie Atsu. I really don't understand why we wouldn't spend the money if we bring it in. Surely a zero net spend it within our financial capabilities. I think this window will be a good indicator of whether Celtic went for Ronny because they really wanted him or because he was a cheaper option. Do you reckon we are saving spending big until the tribute act are back in the league?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - What threat are Sevco to us, Marty, or going to be in the foreseeable future? They're a bigger shambles than Rangers were and it's going to be hard enough for them to get out of the Championship next season, they'll remain no more than an insignificant irrelevance and laughing stock for many years to come. Remember, objects in your rear view mirror appear closer than they are.}

100% agree mate but I get the feeling that is how Lawell is looking at it as he will know our revenue will increase due to increased interest in the league when and if they return. I can see no other reason for the lack of investment with the money generated in the last few years and our healthy balance sheet. Think we really do deserve some money to be spent as it's been ages since we pushed the boat out and got the stay away fans back at paradise

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Money earned playing in the CL dwarves anything we can make in Scotland even with Sevco in the league. CL stability/progression has to be our priority, it's the next level from where we are. It's back to where our ambitions lie, to be a respected team on the European stage, CL and EL, or just settle for beating whatever materialises from Rangers' carcass?}

Bibras Natkho, who we've watched in the past, would look quality in with Brown and Johansen. He's a free agent.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just an update from Ed002 on Besic for Marty:

I expect it to be sorted out but there are some additional unexpected costs and a payment schedule to be resolved. The payment schedule will be no problem but Everton want Ferencvaros to settle part of the additional fees - they say it is nothing to do with them.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers Ed007 and Ed002, much appreciated!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - No probs Marty.}

@1 Ed, I get this gut feeling that if Sevco get back up then there will be some serious investment including a management change. They will be a marketable commodity.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - They're a financial basket case, the level of investment they would need to be a threat to us just isn't there, and it's nowhere on the horizon. Aberdeen are a bigger threat to us on the field and Dundee Utd off the field, Dundee Utd will probably have more money going into them than Sevco this summer.}

Well done to Aberdeen and St Johnstone on getting through in Europe against good opposition. Pity Motherwell couldn't make it all four and get additional coefficient points cause boy do we need it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed motherwell had probably the easiest tie and still didn't make it through

Agree0 Disagree0

Quite pleased Motherwell are out, no make that delighted, I have absolutely no time for them or their manager.killy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair play to the two of them, M'well don't win without a little help from the Scottish MI M

Read that Sunderland are interested in Virgil, 10 million the figure being floated as enough to part with him. This would be a terrible move for his development but worse for us. While holding on to Big Frazer is unlikely, I think Virgil can easily be persuaded to stay at least another season, he is immense for us and I dread who we would replace him with if he did go. We should be looking to strengthen central defence rather than blow it apart. Hope to see some signings before end of qualifying campaign, sick of this waiting to see if we're through then buying what's left. Not talking marquee signings but decent CB, Wideman a striker to replace Stokes who I really hope goes now.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Unfortunately, like Wanyama and Ki, I think the Board are happy to accept early bids for our top players.
I agree that VVD would enhance our team no end, while gaining more valuable experience and confidence; however we seem to be happy to ensure cash comes into the club as early as possible in a season as an insurance policy.
We cannot seem to hold on to any star players - or bring any in, any more and it is very frustrating.
I like what I hear from our new manager and hope he can work wonders (possibly with one hand tied behind his back) if Forster and VVD are sold without quality arrivals?

Agree0 Disagree0

NL had the same hands tied. Let's just see if RD is any better at untying the knots so to speak.

Agree0 Disagree0

If a player insists on going . Which should we do, force him to stay and maybe have an unhappy player who could upset the dressing room or try to maximise the price and let him move on .
I would be disappointed if Virgil left as he has only been with us one year . I don't think he will go this season.

So David McCarthy in yesterdays Daily Rag states that he sees no sense in Celtic's tour. Well, I have to say, it is really great to see the opinions of experts who have successfully managed teams at various levels. Ah, David McCarthy who managed. erm, and then let's not forget that famous victory when he managed. uhmmm. 'Nuff said about their high quality reporter/pundit opinions.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I understand the pros and cons but just for once
I would love to see a club, when faced with a whining git who was happy to sign a long term contract, but now wants away because he can make more money, stand up and tell the man to honour his contract. If he keeps spitting the dummy, stick him in reserves. Never going to happen but would love it.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I've left your other post for Ed001 to see but I think you've posted in the wrong thread here :)

Ed, shuts this spelling autocorrect this site is using? I just typed in the word honour and it's red underlined indicating a spelling mistake. When I typed honor, it's accepted. Let's get this English (US) garbage away please. That's like having English (Scot), English (Sing) or English (Jam) for versions of English used in different countries. The site is in UK and we accept English as the National language. (Course we know proper Queens English is spoken in Inverness) Hail, Hail

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed033's Note - This site doesn't use 'spelling autocorrect' and place an red underline under any words, it must be your internet browser doing this.

how about this for a pole ed are you impressed the way rd goes about his buisness?i for 1 i'm very happy the set up of the team, givin youth a chance just the way he talks about us CELTIC, attackin style of play, pukki turnaround the list goes on ano its only been 2 cl qualifiers and might be getting ahead of myself but is refreshing none the less

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I've left the poll for Ed001 to use in the Poll of the Day, Gordy. I've been really impressed with Deila so far, since the first time I heard him speak I said he showed more positivity in that interview than NL had in the last two years - at least, his entire demeanour is night and day with NL.
The way things are looking, and when you hear Deila speaking, any player who spends any length of time under RD is going to improve, and if they don't it's the player's own fault, he's offering every player every chance they need to succeed, coaching, fitness, conditioning, nutrition etc. That's the difference in having a coaching orientated manager compared to a more traditional Scottish (even British?) style. Deila is more like your Arsene Wenger/AVB type of manager, the articulate, thoughtful, meticulous type with an almost scientific approach compared to an Alex Ferguson/Neil Lennon type, whose tactical know-how wasn't their strong point.
LVG has went into Man Utd's training complex at Carrington and changed the surfaces on the training pitches to be the same as at OT, installed proper floodlights to allow training at night, fitted specialist sleep pods, for the players to rest in. He's even looking into ways to block the wind so that it has the feel of playing in a stadium! AF would never have came up with any of that.
Under NL we ended up back training at Barrowfield because of problems at Lennoxtown - can you imagine Deila doing that?
If Pedro gives Deila his backing, and not just in the transfer market, we could end up with strong foundations that will serve the club well for years to come.}

That kind of reminds me a bit of my AFL team Essendon and their new traning facilities. Everything being state of the art which you would expect, but they have two different ovals to train on that are identical in size and shape to the MCG and Etihad Stadium, as they play on these ovals most often, it gets the players used to the angles and dimensions. Any advantage is a good advantage.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It's definitely the way forward MB, clubs are starting to realise the value of raising their own players rather than buying all the time, even Man City have heavily invested behind the scenes because they want to produce their own players in the longer term. The clubs's who were famous for producing players, your Man Utds and Liverpool's have seriously dropped the ball in recent years and gave way to clubs like Southampton who have a fantastic set-up. Crewe is another club that has consistently produced top players over the years and warrants a mention anytime youth set-ups and coaching is mentioned. For the amount of time NL spent watching and studying Crewe he never really implemented anything he learnt, if he did actually learn anything.}

I'm with this all the way. The man seems to have the right attitude and ideas but will need the board backing. This is their chance to prove they mean business and are in it for the long stretch.

Agree0 Disagree0

How will trying to sort out Mother Nature (the wind) make better players? It's an outdoor winter sport in this part of the world.

What about the away teams you have to visit who don't have stadiums that 'help' with the weather?

Bring back the boot room and running about down the beach :-)

Brilliant as always ed

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Cheers Gordy.}

@Mrs E I think I would rather go with the opinion of an internationally renown manager (LVG) than the opinion of someone who greets on this page and accuses individuals of having multiple logins, all because that person has a different view.

@Ed I've always been a great believer in the view that having a good off the field set up is priceless. Its all good having multi-million pound superstars in a team, but if the right tools are not there to help them gel/develop its pointless.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - The wind blowing across open spaces like training pitches is different from the wind blowing around an enclosed space like a stadium.}

How long do you think it will be until we can stop putting in wee digs about Neil Lennon . I am very impressed with Deila, but wait a while he hasn't won anything yet . Hopefully with everyone's help he will become our most successful manager since Jock Stein .

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Nobody's forcing you to read it.}

I can just see the conversation the now: AF "hi Louis I have won 4 european trophies, how many have you won?" "Eh well . none but I have changed the grass and altered the wind at the training ground".AF "eh well done Louis, how long is his contract again Boss"?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I think you're getting a bit confused with your Louises there.}

Ah come on Ed007, surely its good that people read all comments . I always look forward to your comments as they are usually precise and accurate .

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I know they're precise and accurate, I write them ;)

It's a banter page and differences of opinion are healthy. What a boring place it would be if we agreed all the time. Truth, fibs, ridicule, honest, sincerity and when it gets down to it, genuine sorrow across all divides. I feel sorry for the poor referees (Eds). sometimes lol. hail Hail

Agree0 Disagree0

RD is looking to hire from the Timmaloy franchise. He has earmarked 6 big bruisers from the Calton tae staun at the the training ground and give the players pelters with such terms as "ye cannae see the goals wi yer heid up Yir ers@, " "The milk in am fridge turns faster than you, " " brilliant step-over, noo try it wi the ba at Yir feet."
