I don't know about anybody else but I prefer that my right winger is right footed and left winger is left footed.
That mybe old fashioned and may not fit in with RD's game plan but could he not "tweek " or even consider changing the formation depending on whom we are playing

Question: having lived away from Glasgow for a while now, I'm not so familiar with the songs. The Mulgrew song in the second half: you were all having a laugh, right?

Lustig had a smashing first half - and I love the width he brings to the team with Emilio -these two are stalwart Celts now and our main attacking threat.

But second half, all I saw of him was his open hands asking of his team-mates: *and where's the pass?* I'm pissed off it him for showing his hand so often and openly: but where's the fec-ing pass after all? Funnily enough it was similar to Mubarak's prayer on coming on: I guess Lustig has given up on the mortal resources of mulgrew & co in the midfield .

To be fair rabbie i'm suprised he was even in the right frame of mind to play I read that his wee lassie had to be taken to hospital the other day so your maybe bein a bit harsh on him

Agree0 Disagree0

That being the case, then I agree and retract (covering for a colleague at work dealing with the same and know how that goes).

Another piss poor performance playing that 4-3-3 had to switch to 4-4-2 to get us a goal

He has to fkin stop right now tryin this 4-3-3 he went 4-4-1-1 on Saturday, & a thought tonight he was just swapiing Guidetti for Scepovic but no he had to fkin tinker again tonight!

It was woeful and torture to watch

Would love to see Guidetti & Scepovic get a chance to play up front Scepovic got a decent touch/movement needs more game time

Believable1 Unbelievable0

I no they put up his selection on TV as a 4-3-3. But he was playing 4-2-3-1 which is his favoured formation.

I cannot remember a more flat european performance.delighted we won and I hope scepovic gets some confidence because he certainly needs it.deila must be wondering how the tempo can change so much in two games

Mulgrew in midfield is a non-starter.he was woeful tonight.totally fed up of this kid on player wasting a shirt.sell him to anybody in january

Mcgregor needs a few games coming from the bench and i'd send tonev back to villa the now because he's pathetic

I think Scepovic is no better than Pukki or Balde? In truth if you look back over the last 10 or 11 signings, we have not brought in anyone apart from Guiletti. Tonev gives us nothing but why play him on the right and Stokes on the left? Switch them. Wakaso is ok but not for £4mill. Berget just won't make it. Denyer would be great but won't stay with us. Then look at the lot we got rid of as loan deals and you have to ask who is scouting these guys and who is signing them. We know it's not RD. As for Scepovic wow he really needs to shape up. Don't think it's lack of confidence as much as lack of ability? Very poor tonight yet again. Fortunate to have 7 points.

Agree0 Disagree0

If in truth delia (except Mowbray) is the worst manager we've had since macari, Lennon gets pelters for beating a "poor" barca team, this plonker struggles against a team named Astra, if it wasn't so sad i'd would be funny.

Agree1 Disagree0

@ jonnymac I thought of Pukki and Baldi a couple times tonite too. LOL!

Scepovic was a big talker and almost scuppered the move with procrastination and flirting with other clubs: now he's here, he's learned how big a job it is being Celtic's centre forward and, in my view, he's balked. His goal looked awkward, but it showed a certain agility and determination. let's see where it takes him.

I think Balde could've done a job had he been given a chance. Pukki too. I suspect he didn't show the fitness levels Ronnie aspires to.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tonev and let's be honest commons and let's be honest wakasso and let's be honest. if we are honest and only if we are honest the reason these desperate digs are happening is because we still don't flood the box to create the pass ,1 2s in the box
. Posters + broony vindicated. Invisible . skirting the box? Leave it to the part time joiners that play the zombies ffs

Agree0 Disagree0

Here is a poll edds, is delia a celtic manager, stating Astra would win spl?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - No he didn't.}

23 Oct 2014 22:17:15
Yes that sums it up. poor performance great result. I agree with sutton, Ronny keeps telling us all we are progressing. It's hard to see it. 2 good performances all season. I can't understand (and I know there are loads on this site) why a lot of Celtic fans don't rate James Forrest . Forget his injury problems I'm talking about him as a winger. Borrenger, Wasako, Tonev, not one of them can lace his boots. Wassako apparently has a 4 million buy out deal if we want him? Eh no thanks, and if he's worth that then Forrest is worth 10. I personally can't wait till he's back as we were crying out for him tonight. How many times did Lustig put his arms out to say 'look for the effing ball!' This thing the captain spoke of (hiding) was happening again, and that's not progressing whatever way you paper over it Ronny.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

When he's fit he's valuable but he's constantly out injured so in terms of wages they could be used on another signing. Your right none of him can't lace his boots he will suit the system but I keep saying i'd much rather Anya than Wakaso people laughed when I said i'd like to see him signed in the transfer window

Agree0 Disagree0

Forrest has come on in the the last year, I feel. More strength on the ball, fewer hands-in-the-air tantrums, and he can really turn inside - which is precisely what this side never do absent Commons. He's essential moving forward, but I think Delia knows it.

Agree0 Disagree0

There is no progress, Delia may be convincing himself but surely no one else is falling for it. The team has no shape, no game plan and it seems he pays no respect ever to the opposition, and fools himself that we can play this wide open system. everyone can see how easy it is for teams to quickly be on top of our defence and creating chances. We have two wide players who can't go past a full back and so need to rely on our full backs being the furthest forward so we end up with two defenders. This is the poorest celtic side for many years (with the exception of Mowbray). I personally don't think we will get more than a single point in the remaining three games and will be very lucky to go through

Groutdoc wind your neck in wee are In a very good place to qualify am sick of people slaughtering rd it is shaky no consistency but give the guy a break where still going for four trophys and where still undefeated in the Europa this team where no mugs bt hey if rd had played for celtic it would have bn a good result judge the guy at the end of the season and people slaughtering scepovic the time to worry abt a striker is when there not getting into the positions to put the ball in the net keep the faith bhoys it will come together

Agree0 Disagree0

It is nothing to do with whether he has played for Celtic or not, I really don't care. What I care about is a competent manager. Our performances in the league have been generally unacceptable. Delia should certainly not be given a season on this level of performance. It would be a disastrous performance if we didn't win the league and at the moment our form doesn't suggest this us in any way certain. I keep hearing about winning the treble, well what are people basing this possibility on to me it looks like hope and blind faith. So I won't wind my neck in but perhaps you should stick yours out a little from below your polo neck, because you clearly can't see what us going on

38 years old and that is one of the worst Celtic performances I have seen in my life. Brutal. Pass marks for the keeper and that is it. People who say they are happy to see Commons go must be off their heads. Only guy who knows how football Is supposed to be played.

Have to say started well and finished the first half well bit lucky in between. Poor second half until we switched to 4-3-3 and keeping Scepovic on RD got it right in the end.Think we was a bit sloppy especially in defense good going forward Scepovic could've had 5 think his movement in the box is good. Lustig didn't put a foot wrong for me Mulgrew was terrible as was Tonev Stokes ran his arse off happy with 2-1 especially with it being a handball as I had 2-1 Scepovic first goalscorer :)

Much better second half but the question is why not from the first whistle? We pressed and looked a yard quicker than in the first and generally were much improved. Scepovic was unlucky not to get another couple, maybe this will give him the confidence to kick on, but we still look fairly brittle to me at the back.

One down side is every team we play, starting with Kilmarnock, know how to play us.Sit in and break quickly with accurate passing. Still work to be done on the shape of the team for me but I win is a win I suppose, even more so in Europe. One other question. Is it time for Kayal to be given a chance in the role Mulgrew played?

More in depth post on the way tomorrow from all i'm sure but my god what a poor team we played tonight facilitated only by and allowed only by our players on the park. So so poor in the final third. We took the ball of them at will and only put ourselfs under pressure off our own backs. Going forward and when concentrating we passed/played them off the park. We didn't need any tactics to horse that mob- just players to play. Specovic (spelling) jumped like a hot dog (watch the replay it was a weird leap)- bar and in fair enough and by the law of averages he couldn't make a complete ar $ e of it all night. Switched off for thier goal and to be honest I didn't expect it to be without incident till the 90th. Ronnie has to boot some balls tonight. We didn't need a thing to beat them because they were rotten absolutely rotten. More points on the board but I thought the players really didn't show up and treated astra with as little respect as they deserved. This competition is all we have left to compete for if we keep our heads down domestically. Where was the drive from the players all looking at each other to do something? Top tier of the stadium closed for a reason and we have to do more to fill it. As I said before ronnie should toe thier nadgers for that limp pi$$ witnessed tonight. Admittedly some more than others. No one paid to see a friendly tonight we paid to watch our team in the europa leauge

Dear me this is awful. Half time and I don't recall a decent chance being created. Predictable, slow to move and pass we look a yard slower than this average, and that's all they are is average, team.

Not one decent contribution from anyone, McGregor has been an absolute passenger, Mulgrew has not moved on from a decent game at Ross County, and if Izzy fks up another cross I will scream. Johansson and Broony have not drove us on and all over the pitch we are poor. The fact is we should be at least a goal down. A couple of good crosses from Lustig, where was Scepovic should he not be attacking them, and Stokes looks like he is having another one of his 'games'.

Our centre backs also look like it is only a matter of time before the gift a goal. Very poor and forty five minutes to get the finger out and give us some effort and invention.

We played great football against Dundee UTD then nothing after that. Another great display in our last game, then this. Maybe it's reality check time.

Not at game tonight, still under doctor's orders, so have to watch game on tv. 0-0 half time and we are lucky.
Celtic have zero tempo about them, terrible mis placed passes all over the pitch, Denayer still getting caught out now and again, yes I know he is young but he needs better coaching about his positional sense.
I have watched all Celtic's CL and Europa games on television, in almost every one there has been sloppy careless passes across our penalty area which has put the team in danger, if I as a fan can see it why cannot a "genius" coach like Delia see it. A good coach would try and eradicate these mistakes.
What I hate about Delia's teams is he has taken the heart out of Celtic FC no passion.
Even if we win tonight, nothing has changed my mind about Delia being the poorest manager since Mowbray.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Who said he RD was a genius timalloy?
You said earlier you would take a one goal win. Well that's what happened yet you still come on and have a pop at RD. I take it van gal is a failure also in your eyes?

More utter garbage. wonder what excuse the Deila apologists will have for this debacle. worst excuse for a team I have seen in 50 years of supporting, what I believe to be, the best club in the world. This charlatan is clueless and is making Celtic a complete laughing stock. I am all for supporting your club through thick & thin and giving people a fair crack of the whip but this clown needs to GET TAE F. k and take that posing nobody Collins with him. GerryBhoy

We need to get our set pieces sorted out, why is Stokesy hitting corners? Apart from that we're looking quite comfy and controlling the game but a goal to settle the nerves wouldn't go amiss. With nearly 20 mins gone we can't let this mob get into the game.

Said the same the last time. They are pressing so hard and so fast that they aren't ready when they do get the ball and continually send bullet passes at people 1 yard passed the guy they are aiming at! Why do they persist in passing to each other with so much power? Crisp isn't bullet!

Come on celtic, I really hope we put on a show tonight, kick on from the weekend and play the way the manager wants us playing. I'm not underestimating Astra, I would be happy with a 1 goal win. From what iv seen of sepovic it would be a gamble playing him. I'd bring in commons on the left of the 3 and put stokes up front, other than that the same as the weekend, if izzy is injured then yes I'd go Mathews at LB. Come on bhoys! Have a good feeling about tonight I hope the Ross County game wasn't a false dawn. Markie

That's me off for two days now and tonight I'm managing to get up to the game. Happy days. Totally optomistic about a good 4/5-0 tonight. A resounding 96% think we'll beat Astra tonight. And I'm with them. Astra haven't won since early September, it's only their managers second game in charge, at CP, and we're in gear after last week. Hopefully the same line-up if Izzy's fit (Matthews at LB for me if not) but as for Guidetti, who would people play? Scepovic? Commons? Wakaso? Griffiths? Other? I'd be leaning towards Stokes in the middle and Wakaso and McGregor either side. Commons and Scepovic coming on from the bench if needed.

@Jimtim I hope you are right about score tonight, but most fans seem to be dismissing Astra, even the poll has 96% saying a Celtic win.
We need to impose our game on the Romainians tonight and then take our chances.
I doubt it will be 4/5 I will take another one goal victory as that will put us on 7 points.

Agree0 Disagree0

Quite right Jim let's pump them 4/5-0 aim for high standards first and if it doesn't happen as we hope then settle for 1 goal win.

@ScotlandSky: : @dundeeunitedfc confirm Mark Wilson & Paul Paton under investigation and unavailable for selection this weekend.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Wilson has been suspended for being out on sunday while he was suppose to be playing in a reserve game on monday. That's what iv heard and believe tbh he's a die hard tim and knows zaluska and can't see him having anything to do with the incident except being there

Agree1 Disagree0

When Wilson signed for us he said Celtic wis the team his family had "supported all their life" as well, can always remember him knocking Sasa Papac out wi a shot. Be disappointed if it turns out he wis involved in the attack!

Fi the pics I seen on Tuesday, it looks like he tried to defuse the situation. Bur the club will need to carry out an investigation on both players, wouldn't be surprised if Wilson comes out unscathed. As for that person **** Paton? Player of the Month to public enemy number one in less than a week!

I'm not for a minute saying Liverpool were not outclassed last, they were however 2 of the goals conceded were avoidable.

Is this unusual for Liverpool to concede 2 goals that could have been avoided - No, to the point of beyond a joke.

Real Madrid are a much better team than most in the world and any Manager surely has to look at that. My point being Ronny, Celtic and most of the conversations I've seen regarding moving Celtic forward and modern football.

I'm not going into the diet and fitness issue again, that's also beyond a joke to suggest fans don't understand. Liverpool want to be where Real Madrid are and its not totally unrealistic for them to say that given their income and their league can attract players but where is it we think Ronny (or any Manager) is going to take Celtic?

We hope and pray he is going to change things and I've seen it mentioned we should be more like Basel who have build up a good coefficient and do qualify on a regular basis?

No matter how fit or how much attacking football Ronny plays, without decent players we will not beat a large percentage of these CL teams - they are also extremely fit and can play fast moving attacking football. All I'm saying is we also need a Manager who can be practical about the oppostion and his own team and change tactics.

This is only Brendan Rodgers's 3rd Champions League game so he can definitely learn, and Ronny is still in his early days to so here's hoping.

Realistically - where do we want to see Celtic and you have to take into account money (sadly)

PS - do not mention the fitness or diet, I understand that fine and i'm 100% behind Ronny on that!

Mrs E good post and good question.
Where I want Celtic to be is regularly playing in the champions league and building up our coefficient. Winning trophies, including the cups, in scotland. Making Celtic Park a place where teams are scared to come again.
Each season, working within our financial constraints, but adding one or two better players to our squad, keeping our better young players and giving them game time.
When we do sell players any monies given to manager to improve the squad.
We must also get our scouting system back bringing good up and coming players to Celtic. Back to the young players, we must get Lennoxtown producing more talented young players for the first team as the late great Tommy Burns envisaged. Not qualifying for the CL this season also hurt our development squad as they never got invited into the U21 CL.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good post Mrs E our standard till only a couple of years ago was making the CL and getting to last 16 once in a while. There was many on here screaming we should be spending more and more to get to last 8.We have no chance of making the last 8 unless a barrel load o money spent (not happenin) or a huge slice o luck.Oh how I hark to the good old days of 2 years ago lol.Funnily enough I was talking to a pro the other day and he said with a team like Celtic you can tell how well your playin by the amount of crucial saves your GK makes. Your lucky if Forster made 1 a match in SPFL, it seems Gordon has to make 3, 4, even 5 a match sometimes that tells us a lot.

Agree0 Disagree2

Might tell us that other teams are improving

Agree1 Disagree0

Rayman Hamiltons keeper had to make 7 saves and they had 2 blocks by defenders against us. Gordon had to make 1 save all game. Pro footballers are well known for not being the brightest, its good to see that's not changing any time soon. Going along with your pro we played well and hamilton were sh.1t, and thats contradicting what you've been saying on here.

Agree1 Disagree0

Nonsense horti, we expect other GK to make many saves against us that's always been the case. As for Gordon maybe in the Accies game he never had many but most other games he has had to bail us out many times against very inferior opposition.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's - What's nonsense? AH is right going with what the pro told you, we were the better team against Accies, as stats have already proven. Any other day it would have been a comfortable win.}
