As brutal as that was tonight, i think we are slightly over-reacting (myself inc) , we didn't lose and will make the groups.

Although I agree with you Brendan, we should progress but that was a shocking display from a team we know can do so much better. I can only hope our board are taking notice that we are sadly lacking in some key areas.
On a positive note, wee Mikey Johnstone is looking like a future star!

To be honest Brendan it's hard not to react especially how things have gone so far this season both on and particularly off the pitch. Yes we should make the group stages but to be fair suduva are shocking. And there are some serious sides in the Europa league. With the first old firm around the corner, performing like that as a team is a major concern. Delighted to see Mikey Johnstone display and a guy who plays for the shirt. Maybe a few should take note.

I only run a Sunday team, but I get the lads together and ask them who's f##KING commited and who isn't because as a Sunday league team you are easily replaced, surely Rodgers has asked his squad the same question if there up for the challenge it seems a few think there above the level we are, get rid get replaced with players who actually are up for a fight will be dominant and will actually put 100% in that's what we all want to see! Effort and pride is that to much to ask from well paid professional footballers. I and a millions other people would give anything for the chance to play football for that kind of money and give your all knowing whatever happens your covered! Rant over!

We were rotten against a team that would struggle to survive in our league.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Aug 2018 22:58:46
We obviously need to improve and sign players, too many of our fans are getting anxious because of all the hysteria surround the Scottish team with Scottish fans. Form is temporary remember, Celtic will win handsomly on Thursday, Rangers will go out and the whole thing will turn on its head by Sunday night. Our group certainly know how to win Derby games. The Scottish team have too many debutants for one of these games, and when they freeze, the other players that have played in one will buckle too, because the fear is there embedded in them already.

23 Aug 2018 21:56:31
Whilst Erik wasn't great he was better than what we have now. BR thinks Comper and Hendry are better? And if McKenna is so good why did he not buy him instead of Hendry b4 he signed a 5 year deal? We are poor all over now but the defence has been an issue for years and it has 100% got steadily worse during last 18 months.

23 Aug 2018 20:37:15
I know the negativity is rife right now and there are reasons for this slump in form, confidence and belief and we all support the team/ manager through thick and thin.
However, as Ed would say:- 'I sense a great disturbance in the force', on and off the pitch.

We start the game really well, early goal, in total control (well for 13 mins) - they win a free kick. Alarm bells at the back - static ball watching back line, unmarked man and Gordon flaps.
Sound familiar, well it should because it's like a glitch in the Matrix happening on a time loop.
Every team that even has only one shot seems to score and even more alarming is, opponents surrender all the possession and territory and we cannot create or score because we have little invention, craft, or composure to do so.
Even the pace and power was missing tonight and the only player with a trick was young Johnston, who did well.

The boss seems to have lost his enthusiasm, motivation and swagger and the team have caught the bug.
There seems to be a huge drop in confidence around the place right now, especially on the pitch, when we lose a goal - and we concede every week these days.
Broony looks unfit and playing through injury, but cannot be rested for obvious reasons and the 'treatment' he gets every week may do him more serious damage?
The worrying thing for me is that it's not just one or two players that are struggling for form and confidence it's half a team and that's where BR would usually shuffle the pack, but he is clearly short of an ace or two.

Our club is not backing our manager. Simple as that and the frustration is clear from BR's post match interview this evening. He has a battle on his hands and the board's lack of support is symptomatic of everything that is happening. Shame on them. HH.

23 Aug 2018 21:44:01
I think a lot of this started last season. Although we were dominant in domestic football I think some of the heavy defeats we had in Europe has scarred a lot of the players.
That is why I think the decision makers at the club took their eye off the ball in not making good enough plans to rectify it.
The manager has got to earn his money now and help the squad get some of their belief back. We won 2 trebles back to back for a reason, that is that they are better footballers than any other team has at their disposal.
Despite all the bravado coming out of Sevco we still have a far better squad than them. It's up to the manager now to put the disappointments of who we might have signed behind him and remind a lot of our team that domestically anyway we are way ahead of the opposition.

23 Aug 2018 21:49:20
I listened to the commentary in the Celtic game they were praying for them to score or us to do anything sloppy to jump all over it. If you keep telling a winner they are a loser over and over again eventually they become a loser? We have had our strikers since the start of the season in out stop start that doesn’t help our defence has had a dozen permutations which doesn’t help? The person sympathisers are just all over any crumb of negativity we give them, but after tonight’s results which one would you rather have? A 1-0 first leg home win or an away leg score draw. I know what my choice would be 🙂⚽️🍀🏆🏆🏆 hail hail and roll in the second for a h. u. n skelping 🙂.

23 Aug 2018 22:13:28
Craig Gordon is a great shot stopper but he does not command his box. He has the full game in front of him, but the only time you hear him talking to the players in front of him, is when he is positioning the wall at free kicks. Watch the goal from tonight and see if he actually looks across the box in front of him once. James Forrest needs someone else pushing him for his position or he let's his performance levels drop. I hope Lewis Morgan comes back soon and it may drive Forrest on. We have lost 2 game changers in Armstrong and Roberts, we were already needing central defensive re-enforcements before this season started and I’ve backed the board for sometime but enough is enough. I for one will not be happy unless there is 3 first time players signed before this window closes, nothing less and it is going to be one long season and any one who thinks differently is living in a bubble! Pedro the time is now, one week to sort it out!

what injury is brown playing through old boy chris? that's seems to be always the reason when brown pkays poor. he's playing through injury if that's the case an not 100% then he shouldn't be playing. donu not think that his age is starting to creep up and he osnt the same oamter as of last season? his constant misplace passes and passes to the back is making him more noticeable that he may need a rest.

23 Aug 2018 22:27:08
The one position that could be improved without signing anyone is get Bain in for Gordon. Gordon's decision making with the ball at his feet is abysmal 9 times out of 10 he puts our shaky defence under pressure.

23 Aug 2018 23:31:42
Where do you start? We are in trouble. If anyone thinks Rangers are no threat, then you had best go and lie down in a dark room till the end of the season. Same for Hearts and Hibs. Many posters have been saying this for months only to be shouted down as being anti Celtic. I since BR started on about lack of support from the Board its hone right down hill. I think BR is totally hacked off and its going through the club. We come up against a poor team tonight and we are almost as poor as them. BR has lost his drive and its reflecting on the players. 8 in a row is in serious danger unless BR gets his drive back and starts pushing the players he has got to produce better. Even Moussa looks as if he is packing it in. We will beat them at Celtic park but not too sure how many more scalps we will take in EL this season.

I don’t agree with the analogy that if you keep telling a winner he’s a loser, he becomes a loser. Only a loser to start with would listen to people trying to put him down. A winner would use that as motivation to ram those words down the barstewards throats.

Let’s see what we have filling our jersey.

23 Aug 2018 20:24:06
Tonight was poor but the most important thing in a playoff is always to get through it. Did I expect us to win well? Yes, but we're ahead in the tie and will finish the job at home. I feel like the end of the window will be when the team kicks on because all of the trouble with transfers, or lack of, all the half stories about fallouts with the board and the unrest with Boyata etc. looks like it's had an effect on the players. Chuck in some important injuries and it's a recipe for poor performances. After next week the squad will be what it is and that'll be that, nothing to concentrate on except the football.

Completely agree kevbhoy sooner this window shuts the better wether it’s with us strengthening or letting the bhoys here know it’s down to them.
Defensive mistakes have been highlighted and rightly so but that doesn’t help the players, poor Hendry tho not playing tonight has been hung out to dry by most fans.
Lack of spark and goals plays a big part in people slating the defence but we haven’t had a Moussa n eddy matchfit and playing together I’m sure when they are normal service will resume.

He isn't going nowhere. Yes we have been poor and the defence is a major concern. Boyata out asap. Pay the remainder of Compper deal and get him gone. The only defender I would keep is young Ajer. If 2 Centre Half's aren't found we will go backwards. Brendan saying we will work with what we have is alarming. The board &players better get the finger out. Lawell better get the cheque book out also. We also need a playmaker as this pass the ball to death then get to the 18 yard line and then do nothing. Cross balls and corners are woeful.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2018 21:34:30
Welshy I agree about Hendry. He’s the whipping boy and while his performances have earned him plenty of well deserved criticism, at least he’s given it his best and not taken the coward’s way out like World Cup medalist Boyata.

I was listening on the radio, and according to them Gsmboa was the main culprit for losing the goal, then a mistake by Gordon, but I would cut Gordon some slack, must be hard for a goalkeeper playing behind a defence that keeps making mistakes, there are a lot of young talented boys in this squad, pity there wasn't a Franc Sauzee type to come in.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2018 00:07:54
Aindoh the ball travelled over all the defence and should have been cut out and yes the guy who scored was at the back post on Gambo side. However he was in the six yard box when he headed it home. Gordon never left his line! It was shocking goalkeeping.

24 Aug 2018 00:08:58

Instead of strengthening we might well spend the next week staving off interest in Tierney Dembele and Ntcham although on tonight's display you'd get 3 furra £1. Not hit the panic button yet but if there's no activity in then that says it all for me. No doubt we will go through but displays like this only feeds the smsm. Keep the faith bhoys 🍀.

For me, it’s time to clear out the defence. If we can get good money for KT, take it and spend the lot buying in a pair of string Center backs. It’s for the greater good Bhoys and for me needs to be done.

23 Aug 2018 21:04:57
I keep hearing take the money and spend it. On WHO? Not many quality Players want to come to Scotland especially now we are out of the CL.

Agree1 Disagree0

Watched Brendan’s interview after the game, you can tell he is truely fed up with things at the moment. He had a dig at Jozo for not coming back on when he thought he would have with a knock to the ankle. Boyata throws his olive branch back in his face. The club can’t conclude deals for players at both Hibs and Aberdeen. Like last year we can’t get going on a run of winning games, the team clearly had no confidence. Celtic Park will be empty next Thursday.

Agree2 Disagree1

23 Aug 2018 22:29:23
Celtic park will NOT be empty next week.
A few poor results and we are starting to sound like sevco supporters.
Yes, it's hard to take but having been through really bad times, this is a concerning time, not a slit your wrists in the bath time. (don't forget, this same disater of a team won back to back trebles and a record unbeaten domestic run)
BR is pissed off because he knows the players are more than capable of p-laying better. He also knows our defensive weaknesses but his hands are tied by geography which directly relates to finance.
Right now, the only positive I feel is that we achieved a score draw in the away first leg of a European tie.

This performance tonight has summed us up for last wee while defensively shocking and slow ponderous build up we just seem to have lost our appetite and desire at the moment we badly needed a shake up a few signings just to freshen up the team. We really need to pick things up and quickly because at the moment we look poor and although some on here think the leagues a forgone conclusion at the moment it could be a lot closer than it should be .

Whoever thinks the league is in the bag is deluded. Far too many games like this for my liking. Can't defend and can't finish teams off or lacking creativity. Was the same all last season dropping too many points or not breaking down teams and being soft at the back. Can't believe after everything we still haven't really got anyone in to improve the first team other than OE who we already had on loan. And to boot weakened ourselves in the process 👏.

I Am not sure what was worse, watching that sxxt against a pub side at best or having to listen to that commentary Christ. People thought that AEK were a poor side but people better take a long hard look at this Celtic side. All over the park we were shocking.

The defence is a disgrace and how can anyone think firstly we should be in the champions league and secondly we will stroll the league when u know we will concede a goal before every game meaning we need to score at least two to win the game.

We don't appear to have the cutting edge in midfield and Brown seems to have gone back as another CB due to the defence being so poor.

Just all round we look like we are struggling in all areas and we need to get this sorted asap before 2 Sept.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Aug 2018 20:30:26
For a team off the back of consecutive trebles we look lacking in leadership confidence direction and quality.
I would love to know what is happening at training set pieces are just put into the box in sheer hope the passing is getting worse and the set up of defence is void.
Even this early we have the look of a team that are playing out the season with nothing at stake
It's so alarming and I can't see light at the end of the tunnel 😢😢😢😢.

23 Aug 2018 20:35:12
Ter161 I take it you were referring to Celtic as the pub team. How does the saying go, something like "if you can praise him you can criticize him"?

Well Brendan has known since this time last year that our defense is guff, and his response was Commper and Hendry. I know a lot of the fanatics on here will blame the board, and no doubt they have to accept a massive portion of the blame, however Brendan has more power than any manager we have had for years. He should have identified several defenders to fix this.

He gets praise for improving players, yet we cannot defend crosses/ set pieces, these are the basics.

I'll be honest, i think unless we get at least one, preferably two center backs we will struggle this year.

The problem with CB is that BR has 5 of them in the squad. Yes hard to believe but there is Ajer who's decent (yes a midfielder) , Jozo who has lost all form, Hendry struggling in the Celtic strip, Compper? and Boyata the rat!

Think BR would need a few out asap to allow new CB or two in. Hopefully the rat asap and just get rid of compper. Christ if l missed work as much as he does l would be let go.

And remember they got rid of Eric who l did like and got Compper and Hendry in.

Efe Ambrose would be an improvement on our defence, can't believe how we leak a goal every time a team had a shot on goal. We are not playing well and the off field antics are affecting everyone from players managers and fans alike sending it back. Bhoys I don't get to Celtic Park as often as i would like to these days due to ill health and finances tbh. I've shelled out £120 to take the wife son and 2 daughters aged 10 and 7 to the Hamilton game on Sunday. Two lassies are counting the sleeps so am I. This is what it's all about for the young ones. Going to this magical place called paradise, the excitement of it all. They don't need to worry about strengthening the squad just as we didn't when we were nippers. There last game Motherwell 8 - 0.So here's hoping. I see there's a food bank collection on the day. Is there a cut off time for donating or is it up to KO. HH🍀.

Big Bruce we have not played well through the second half of last season. Players look a bit boared.
Thats why we needed to freshen it up. On the other hand I can understand why PL is reluctant to sign more players. Our wages alone are more than the rest of the SPL teams turnover put together if you exclude Rangers. However why has no one told BR that we are not signing any players? Surly someone has given him a figure of what he has in the transfer window? He must get an indication of his available spend? It just seems like this whole episode has been handled really poorly. BR is talking about signing quality and PL is talking about signib no one. We knock back £9mill for Boyata and can't sign McGinn for £3mill? I think for whatever reason we as a club have just not communicated from the top down. I can't see anyone coming in now so we just need to accept it and move on. So for BR, if we don't win the league this seadon, facing a need to dramatically reduce costs, i think he will go. If we are still on for 10 in a row he may stay but this is in my opinion make or break for him this season.

Every morning u wake up hoping to see a new arrival at CP , u see none u then feel deflated then deflated turns to frustration and then this turns to anger, l haven’t felt this bad since before Martin O'Neil then the board gave him the cash to create a fantastic team which took us to a European Final.

But Celtic board being Celtic Board they didn’t give him the funds to progress. 16 yrs later they’re at it again and leaving the the door open for that other mob to get better and stronger. I don’t know what has happened to our style of play as well it seems we don’t shut teams down as soon as the get the ball . So please Celtic Board get the players in for Brendan before we lose another great manager.

Hopefully picking up a few wins in the groups would create more of a feel good factor around Europe rather than the usual getting hammered most games. It will be nice to actually feel you can win against all the teams but it doesn’t make up for the terrible defeat to AEK.

23 Aug 2018 13:41:51
The sooner we get the AEK hangover, this feckin transfer window and any other distractions out our system the better and focusing on tonight, then the next three home games with the right attitude and application, will hopefully settle us down and get back on track.

I know we are all disappointed about dropping out of CL, but just been researching online possible revenue in Europa League, while not as lucrative as CL, UEFA have added bonuses based on a club's coefficient, more on this in a moment.
So taking Celtic, should we reach group stages of EL club get £2.92m, then share of global tv revenue (more money if we are in group with English, German teams etc)
Another thing with the tv money, if Celtic alone qualify we get ALL SCOTLAND'S TV ALLOCATION, but if sevco qualify we share this.
In El a win earns roughly £750k and a draw £300k.
next to the coefficent payment based on a 10 year ranking, the higher a team's ranking the more cash UEFA pay, Celtic can expect around £2m while sevco being much lower will receive £190k
Now add in gate money and sponsorshipand Celtic will earn £10-£14m just in group stages.

A wee bit disillusioned with the transfer window and general malaise currently circling our club at the moment. Surely there must be decent centre halfs out there in the ilk of Mjalby, Big Joos, Reiper, Elliot etc who were hardly household names before joining us. We need a bit of steel at the back and a bit of back up for Broony to stans up for the team. I am at the age where I've seen the script before, with Celtic boards through the years failing to strengthen from a position of strength. I'm hoping we can still do that and keep our manager intereste. Unfortunately the disco lights have become a bit of a white elephant and were obviously sanctioned with us qualifying for the CL. I worry our scouting system are perhaps not doing their jobs effectivey. You can't tell me there aren't solid reliable defenders currently playing in Scandinavian countries or Eastern european leagues. Anyway, few more day's to get someone in, here's hoping. Hail hail.

I still don't get why so many fans think we don't spend any money?
52million wage budget for a team from Scotland is an massive amount of money from which our season ticket money is nowhere near covering. As I've said before factor into that 7/ 9 million for eddy + wages, wage rises for Kt and TR probably around another 2 million easy, Disco lights and new pitch + other stadium improvements 4/ 5 million and possibly even add ntcham wages of around a million a year from last set of accounts ( I'm not sure if this has been accounted for or not ) And yes we have sold Armstrong and paddy is away and that is probably just as well or I'm quite sure there would be a few more on their way for sure. We have to remember we are run properly by our our board who won't take the risks other clubs may be taking. It nearly happened once before and I for one don't ever want to see it happen ever again. Yes I want to see signings of course I do but when I take a step back and really think things through, we still have the squad togeather and when all are fit is still definitely for sure the best squad in the country by some way.

The CL qualification achieved by BR and the players 2016/ 17 and 2017/ 18 was difficult and showed we needed to invest in certain areas of the team to improve; however, poor judgement or bargain hunting in the last three windows has resulted in failure to improve enough for CL football this season - which was always going to be our most difficult test with four qualifiers on the back of a WC and a hampered/ split transfer window.
The club knew we were dependent on CL revenue to run at current costs, were well aware of ALL the above factors and that the manager had said openly we needed to replenish/ improve the team to do this, but here we are looking desperate and disheveled.
Whether it was the old complacency, or an ignorance of the fact we were losing momentum (and results prove this) - many of the current difficulties are of our own doing and nobody can fix it, but ourselves. The team needs to react positively and confidently over the next few weeks and the Board needs to react . accordingly.

23 Aug 2018 11:26:32
So can any of you guys tell me the financial situation before BR arrived? how much we were in debt from RD era and who paid for that?
In no way am I board apologist or fansatist I am a realist about the current climate in football. We can't spend the amounts of money we would all love us to. The only way I can see the board spending any money of any decent amounts above what we have already spent is by selling our top assets, I for one would rather we kept them to be honest.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2018 12:24:30
Happyhoppy if you read my post properly I said stadium improvements not stadium investments, yes and that money in the bank will obviously make up the shortfall for not qualifying for CL some people just don't seem to get it.

In an ideal world DD would be pumping a bit of extra cash into the club and there would be no worries but he isn't so we have to live within out means end of.
Assets will be sold eventually BR will move on and we will build again.
I for one will just enjoy what we have right now as it definitely won't last forever.

Agree in part with happyhoop, if the wage bill is £50mill then that's way too high, even if we do have CL in the bank we can't go spun King that on more players to add to a bloated wage bill n squad. Recruitment over the years has left us in this position and we need to get rid of the dead wood before adding quality. Allen, Hayes, Christie, hendry, etc all add up to 2 quality players wage wise, adding more when the other won't leave is suicide n means any money we have made is getting poured into wages for squad players. Can't just add, add, add. Rodgers has actually bought 3 defenders and GK who were not good enough for first team, until he ships some on he can't add another.

Was just reading how John Hughes made his debut at 17, Billy McNeill at 18 and Bertie Auld a wee bit older, all within a couple of years of each other, if only we could bring more young guys through rather than relying on buying in talent.

Every year Brendan states that we need to bring in "quality not quantity". Quality is available if you actually look and that's the part that makes me laugh. Someone's not doing there job, the board have messed up and are doing nothing to fix it. 2 years of the same old nonsense. It's getting stale. The board must know the fans are annoyed. But continue to sit there penny pinching as much cash as they can. Pathetic.

Think this is the point fans are missing, we are carrying too much dead weight taking up wages who are happy to stay put, until we trim out these 7 I think we can then bring in 2 quality additions not add 2 sell the other 7 later, money down the pan.
