Like probably all Celtic supporters I desperately wanted Celtic to benefit from the CL big bucks. We always need all the revenue we can get in Scotland.
Watching Roma and Maribor being dismantled, destroyed, annihilated I was so glad it wasn't us. It could easily have been, but in reality I'd rather play games where there is more chance of a 'Match', we would clearly be outmatched. I don't want to watch Celtic being whipping boys. let's hope we can go forward next season with a gelled team of skilful players playing a system they are comfortable with.

Sorry but the "I don't want to be in the CL because we will get cuffed brigade" are talking total nonsense. As a player you want to play the best, that's where you learn the game.As a club the kudos of playing in the CL is where you want to be, not to mention the money it brings and the players you can buy as how many players do you know who are dying to play in the SPFL? As a fan is that not the games you are dying to go to? The atmosphere, the teams we might play, the odd fantastic result.Yeah we won't win it and we even might be embarrassed in the odd game but so what, if it good enough for Roma, Liverpool it good enough for us.

@rayman, I think I would love an run in CL/EL over any cup/ cups success, nothing comes close to the big European nites @ Celtic park.

Agree0 Disagree0

The speed and intensity of Real Madrid in the first half was awesome . In the second half Real Madrid took the foot off the throttle, thinking of their big game at week-end . I was disappointed that Liverpool couldn't or wouldn't lift the pace in the last half hour .
We're there too many like Sterling tired but with late nights .

Ed as you know Scottish football and the national team are of huge interest to me

Jack Harper - the young player at Real Madrid, do you know anything about him at all?

I seen is starting this afternoon in their game v Liverpool

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - all I know is that he is supposed to be a special talent. I have heard loads about him being great, but no actual specifics, so I am looking forward to watching him. They really rate him there mind, they see him as a certainty to make it.}

Cheers Ed

I see Liverpool had a decent 1st half but 2-2 now.

Will be good to see a decent Scottish player come through – we have some decent players but nothing near the talents of players like Dalglish.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - this lad is supposed to be the best talent since those days, so it is worth keeping an eye out for him.}

I'm baffled, is this the 1960's or 2014? It's a fact that eating healthy makes the body healthier. If I'm eating a healthy diet weekly my muscles body and organs are all getting the correct amount of nutrients (carbs, fats, proteins and minerals which allows them to repair and recover after training and also provides general supplement to the body. It's a fact exercising in any form ie cardio training or weight training improves fitness why? Cardio makes the lungs and heart work faster, increasing lung capacity and allows red blood cells (which provide the gas exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide) to flow through the body quicker to the muscles Why is this helpful? The last 20 minutes of games I'm not as tired because my muscles are still getting oxygenated at a reasonable rate and my heart isn't working as fast to get it there. Weight training improves strength and also creates over scaring of the muscle fibres (hypertrophy) which makes them bigger. Example fast twitch muscle fibres are what sprinters have because they need explosion slow twitch is what long distance have for slower releasing lactic acid. And there's also fast twitch type b which athletes in football have.

So to my point if I'm a footballer with a clean diet (excluding 1 or 2 cheat meals a week) and I'm doing cardio and strength training. How am I not going to be a better footballer (I should all ready have a decent level of football skill considering I've made it professionally)? I'll not get tired as fast during a game, I will be stronger through my weight training and I feel better after games due to having a healthy diet.

Sorry for the long post ed, I'm trying to show people why fitness and healthy eating is a huge factor in not just football but all sports. It's not a cause of I'll go a run in the mornings and have protein shake. It's more in depth each exercise these players do is specific for them same with there meals and cardio. Coming from a professional rugby background and now into bodybuilding I know what it means to live that life style.

I don't think anybody is seriously suggesting that players should not be fit or look after their bodies.
Where I take issue on this though, is I don't believe the players were that unfit before Ronny came.
Last season we had problems in the team, but I don't think much of it was down to the players fitness or lack of it.
We struggled a bit last season because we sold Hooper Wanyama Ledley and Wilson from the previous year and didn't replace them well enough.
The tactics we used when we beat Barcelona would not have worked if the players had not been been super fit.
I am sure the players that were brought in since would not be training any differently, so it is more likely that their football ability just wasn't as good.

Gerry every Celtic player that were sold or loaned were according to the other club, totally out of shape. Hooper being the worst and even reported that wanyama was unfit and lacked the stamina levels. It doesn't matter what team either celtic or Real Madrid ability aside the fitness levels should be the same - maximum. RD is forcing his players to lead the model pro lifestyle to make them better at there job. Yes they might be doing ok but I personally would rather be at my peak than just above acceptable. That's what makes a player and ultimately a whole team of players play at a higher intensity and quality level.

Agree0 Disagree0

If this was the 60s we would be winnin a European cup. I wonder what the Lions ate lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rayman In the 1960, s football was a different game . It was based on individual genius and team work all built in together . In 1967 most of the Lions drank very little or were tee-total.
Wee Jimmy didn't drink, I doubt if wee Jimmy would have the same opportunities in today's game to hold on to the ball for a couple of minutes to give his team mates a breather .

Agree0 Disagree0

I just think that all managers who start badly at a club, come out with the same line, that the players are not fit or the training methods are wrong.
Two years ago we qualified for the last sixteen of the çhampions league, and won the double, you can't do that with unfit players.

Agree0 Disagree0

I've got to agree with Toprig here. I can't see why our players being fitter and having more energy won't help them improve. We've got Raheem Sterling a 19 y.o player looking for £100k a week wages from Liverpool moaning about being to tired to play a international game in October! but he can go out partying until 3 in the morning the next day. I bet none of the Real Madrid players done that last week. Last year we got gubbed in the cl and only won the league, maybe it was a drop in fitness to blame, you could be onto something there gerry, good point and highlights how much the team went backwards in the space of a year

Agree0 Disagree0

As I said earlier, I am in no way saying that players should not be fit and look after themselves.
I just think it is wrong to suggest that the drop in performance in the last 2 years, is because players have suddenly become unfit.
I think it is because we sold some decent players, and because of the policy at the club, never spent enough money in replacing them.

Agree0 Disagree0

We must have bought right at one time to get the quality in.
Maybe the replacements didn't settle in and work as hard as the previous players.

So what would be good enough in the Europa League? Would qualification to the next round be the minimum?

Ed, when the draw was made,I'd have been happy to get outa the group,but hopefully two good results against astra (spelling) no reason y we can't win group, especially with players coming back from injury,iam looking @ the quarter finals now, and the experience should stand us well for a crack @ the Cl next season. (Positivity)

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - what if you don't qualify?}

22 Oct 2014 06:34:26
Can't c that happening (I hope)
If we don't qualify, just another bump on the road of the ronny d journey,
Do u not think we'll quality.?
After watching Cl last night iam glad we're not in it.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I don't have a clue, I don't see why Celtic shouldn't qualify but there is always a chance of surprises.}

With the points in the bag, the green shoots of revival, and Astra our next 2 games I would be very diss appointed not to qualify. After that you can't go talking about a round to aspire to as though it just happens to get progressively harder. We could face a top quality team in the next round. I mean we could make the final and have a harder game just after the group stages than we had in the semi. Markie

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not fussed if we win the Group, or finish 2nd, as long as we qualify. I expect us to be playing European football after Christmas now that the two bottom seed games and a home match are coming up - wi 4/6 pts already on the board!

ED001 I am hopeful we will qualify for knockout stages, IF we take little Astra seriously, I am worried that Delia, according to his press utterings is dismissing them already.
They may not be a big name but any Romainian team has to be given respect and also given Delia's euro record so far a Celtic victory tomorrow is not a given.
PS
ED001 here is idea for a poll of the day
With all the loan signings at Celtic, has John Park and his scouting team rested on their laurels on attracting decent up and coming players to Celtic?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - cheers Tim, added that to the list.}

I would take getting out of the group.
The next round will have the Champions league teams coming into it, so it is hard to look beyond that, as you could be drawn against the likes of Man City.
I think it will be difficult to qualify as Salzburg and Zagreb look decent sides, but hopefully we can find a bit of form and squeeze through.

Agree0 Disagree0

Would we have a problem with Man City no wins after 3 games in Europe so far this season . Nothing to fear.

Hopefully

Chris, are you having a laugh? Maribor put us out of the CL and got smashed 6-0 last night? Let's get real here and stop spouting the Celtic supporter nonesense about who we believe we are? We are 3rd in the SPL. The fact that Man City are not doing well in Europe means nothing. What has Msn City results got to do with Celtic. A better guide to our standard is Maribor. Get real.

Agree1 Disagree1

I thought someone had posted that we could meet Man City if we qualified, and of course if they managed third .
Strange many posters complain of lack of spending by the Celtic Board yet Man City are fined for gross over spending by UEFA and can't win a game in Europe .
