Must admit when a seen wee James take the ball from Sammi ma heart dropped, but got to hand it to him showed big balls to step up and put it away specially wae all there gamesmanship.
Pukki needs tae get his finger oot and start showing something other than a couple of nice touches here and there.
Ajax fans are crazy bas*ards.

COYBIG! {Ed007's Note - I felt the exact same about Forrest taking the penalty and the longer it dragged on the worse I started to feel but all credit to him. I give him enough stick on here so I'll hold my hands up and admit I thought he had an excellent game tonight and not just because of the penalty, him along with van Dijk and Kayal were immense.
Without Commons and especially Brown I wasn't sure how this match would go but I am delighted with the result and performances of a few players that there has been doubts amongst the support, I thought even Izaguirre put in one of his better performances of recent times.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

@ED like yourself, as Mrs E will testify I'm not Forrest's biggest fan but fair play to him for taking the pen, but I wish he would show more confidence when taking on players, especially down the flanks. When he did it he did it well. For me the best players tonight were Dijk, Mulgrew, Effe, Lustig and Forster. Big Sammi along with Stokes and Pukki had a poor game and although he and stokes had a hand in the goals it was a very disappointing from show from players you expect more from.

Briggs

Agree0 Disagree0

Van dijk made a few errors and let guys through but Effe sorted them. I think effe had the better game of the two.

Agree0 Disagree0

Briggs I was delighted for him and will admit to being nervous, more so than usual!

I remember him taking a penalty last season, against Dundee?

Maybe he thought he has something to prove and stepped up. Here's hoping it does his confidence the world of good.

Brilliant night :-)

He eventually slipped up and he was posting under the name Matt Crozier as well, complete moron of a guy. All of us Eds were in stitches watching him making an arse of himself.}

Aye well, no surprise. Just following following the traditional financial plan. Gamble with the heart and not the mind which is why they ended up in the position they are in now. Methinks this guy was probably on the sevco Board of Directors at one time! Hail Hail

If we can manage a win in Amsterdam and barca beat Milan in the nou camp then it sets it up nicely for Milan coming to Parkhead. If we took the 3points from Milan we would qualify before the last game.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yep you're spot on there. I don't think that it's too far fetched either. It is a massive incentive for the team to not have to go to the Nou Camp looking for a result. Let's hope Barcelona can have a better game in their return against Milan, by some accounts they didn't play their best tonight.

Forgot to say in me post that. Lennon is still beating the rangers on the pitch! Don't know what frank de boer was talking about with the best team lost. With players getting healthy for next match hopefully, Lennon will do a job again over in thier home town. Just hope fans are safe over there as they were trouble here

Great win! Lennon got the game plan right, not giving them room to play out the back and we caused a bunch of turnovers in thier end and if some where faster in mid we could have had a lot more. Big Forster I'm sure got a lot of looks again today by clubs wanting him, ref was shocking with some calls and more so none calls, did they get rid of the rule of giving a yellow to divers? Seems like it for there were 3 clear cut obvious diving that warrant a card.

JK what did they do? excuse my ignorance, living in England and working nights so missed it all . {Ed007's Note - Apart from trouble throughout the city since last night there was trouble inside the ground with seats being broken and thrown about, stewards and police being attacked and sections of their support trying to break through the security cordons and attack CFC fans at half-time.}

I was sitting right beside the ajax fans and a chair missed my face by inches, I seen kids getting hit with chairs and coins, and at half time they tried to break through the security and go for the celtic fans, hail hail,, paul mc

Great show tonite, no doubt.

When you look at the results, rather than the points, its a really tight group. Let's face it: once again, we're performing well at the very top of the game. It was great to see a team of this calibre coming to Celtic Park and giving the team the respect they deserve and have merited.

Happy Days Bhoys n' Ghirls!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hooperman sitting in the stand watching it. It's just not right!

Amazing what happens when Lennon abandons his double subs nonsense. Glad he's taking the advice.

Why a striker substitution? Down to ten men he should have took Pukki off and put a defender on. Maybe then not lost that late goal. Lenny and substitutions bothers me.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Shut up you tart team get a great win and you moan about conceding a 93rd min goal.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lennons game plan was spot on! Your just a joke complaining about subs!

Agree0 Disagree0

I m8 that's what a think Lennon does come on the banter page so he can get tips on management from you.
Your doing a good job buddy keep up the good work.

Agree0 Disagree0

If Lennon brought a defender on for a striker then it would have been a 'negetive' substitution! GIRFUY!

Briggs

Agree0 Disagree0

He's two nil up and his right back in CL football gets red carded. So he messes with defensive positioning and does a straight change out of strikers. Soon loses a goal.
Totally wrong call I'm afraid. He should have put on a right back. I was screaming it at the time.
The comments above are out of order. Seems there's no room for correctly criticizing Lennon in here.
Ajax were always up to be beaten. One win in 11 CL games. Lenny ended up winning by a huge deflection. We still don't have strikers scoring good goals. Are we looking for deflections in the next two games to get us through? Forget about criticizing Pukki, what did stokes achieve tonight?

Agree0 Disagree0

The sub was the correct one. Balde was on to hold up play in the final 3rd. Who else could have came on, Darnell fisher would have been a bigger risk IMO. Well done Lenny, spot on tonight

Agree0 Disagree0

The Balde sub was clearly just to waste time and he didn't want to disrupt his backline with only minutes to go. You really need to stop obsessing over Lennons substitutions. Win lose or draw that's all you seem to look at.

Agree0 Disagree0

@5 did we win last night? If the subs wer that bad there was plenty time to score more than a last kick of the ball goal.

Who else thought izzaguire was a liability at the back again tonight, ok going forward but always out of position and a tendancy to dive in and commit.

However on a lighter note great performance from our two centre backs and good to see kayal looking livel again and showing a real turn of pace to chase back and make that tackle 0-0 at the time let's remember.

Hail Hail and bring on Amsterdam

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed, thought he showed signs of his form before his injury (He was keeping Wanyama out at the time). I thought he took his opprotunity to play by the scruff of the neck and if he continues that form he'll only be prised out by Brown.

Melb Bhoy {Ed007's Note - I was very impressed with Kayal's overall performance tonight.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Na nick thought izzy was great tonight, an attacking full back will find it hard not to get caught out position if the team loose possession when he's up field not a lot he can do other than try get back quickly which he done tonight. Cole, Carlos, cafu all got caught at times

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree about centre backs Nick but why move Efe to right back when Micky had to off, don't want to be negative but why not just put Fisher on instead of moving 2 players positionally. No need to disrupt team that much with 5 to go. Thought Izzy had best game in long time

Think Lenny has to be brave tonight and go with 2 up front. Hope he gives Balde start with stokes, can't see him splitting centre halves, we need Mulgrew in midfield to drop back to defend when Efe or VVD go on one of their runs. I d go ------------forster
--------------------- lustig efe vvd izzy---
--------------------forest ledley mulgrew sammy----
-------------------------stokes balde ---------

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'd be happy with that Marky! If it were up to me I'd have Samaras, Stokes, Pukki + Balde all on the pitch at KO tonight. Samaras at LW, Stokes or Pukki playing in behind a front two combo of Balde and one of the previous mentioned tonight. We need to try and link the MF and FW's as there's a definate need for a playmaker!

Hello all.Missed the Hibs game as I was on holiday but have just watched it on DVD, not the horror show I was expecting but not too great either to be honest.

Firstly I think Lenny was right to highlight the manner of the Hibs tackling.I don't have a problem with good solid challenges, it's the sneaky follow through that causes the problems.Yes the Hibs players were obviously trying to get in our faces, no doubt looking for a fear of missing a Champions League match, and that's fair enough if the tackling is hard but legitimate.Which brings me to the following through part.In pretty much every tackle a Hibs player put in this occurred.Now our players are experienced enough to deal with this but does that mean Lenny should not flag it up? Murderwell have been getting away with this tactic for years against us.I think he was fully justified in raising this issue.I do however wish he would leave twi**er alone. The spat with some no mark journeyman player was beneath the Celtic manager for me.

On tonight, what a game! Celtic V Ajax, a real six pointer in the Champions League. This is what you support a team for surely? You win your domestic league then play qualifiers to earn the right for this type of game.Sadly three of our in form players will be missing, and they will be missed, and Lenny will earn his wage picking a team to cause Ajax problems.I have seen some quite inventive suggestions in posts and some I would be fearful of. Virgil and Efie? Surely we can't split this pair up? Ajax will have invention and movement up front, I doubt if they will even start with a recognised striker playing up top, and we will need our two best picks to cope with this.We also need these two to hit the front and midfield with good accurate passing to get us up the pitch.

Wide defence it looks like Izzy and Lustig.As long as Izzy is on it we should be all right there, and Lustig has become a big European player for us recently.They must however remember defending is their first duty. Two holding mid fielders is interesting. I would assume Charlie will be left side but who will he partner? Will it be a night for Biton to step up or will Kayal give us the game he is long overdue in delivering? Tough choice this unless Lenny has another idea.

Forward midfield three? Sammi left, Joe Ledley centre and Forrest right. I would have assumed this was the line up but will Lenny? Maybe Sammi up top and another mid field player left side? The other big question is lead striker.If we guess Sammi will be running from deep that leaves a spot for Stokes Pukki. As both looked poor v Hibs this ones really wide open. The other worry for me is both drift from a central striking role.This causes problems as it will allow Ajax to move the ball out from the back, the last thing we need is coughing up possession to them, and give them easy targets to hit.We need someone harrying their defenders all night.The midfield attackers will be vital to this too.If we press them I think we can get at them.

Finally us.Tonight will be more edgy than any of last years home games.There is a lot riding on this result.As such I expect Celtic Park to be really rocking.The atmosphere will maybe even touch last years epic v Barca.But one word of caution.Lets get right behind every one of who ever plays.This is not a night for grudges and moans against players you don't like. This is a CELTIC night.We are all in this.We can give a player an extra yard but we can drain a player too. Puff out the chests Tims it's another CHAMPIONS LEAGUE night. {Ed007's Note - Welcome back GJ, I hope you had a nice holiday.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Stokes needs to step up and bang them in at home. He's not managed to fill hooper's boots by a long chalk. No excuses tonight it's a strong team being put out.
I forecast the team will do well and then Lenny will do his stupid double substitution (Pukki and a midfielder) and blow it as usual.

Agree0 Disagree0

@1 nice to see you took note of the get behind the team from the opening post, we've not even played and you've got us beat because of a double substitution.

Another doom merchant@1. Lennon will make substitutions when there required & I will take his judgement before any key board warrior thinking Football Manager on consoles has given him good insight of being a manager. Paradise will be rocking tonight & let's hope all give 100% from kick off. I think Joe Ledly will be on the bench & hopefully will play at some point during the game. I would play Pukki, as he was bought for these kind of nights, Big Sammy running at them on left flank.With Izzy & Lustig bombing up & down, but remembering there defenceive side of the game & not being caught short. A Bonus already with Ajax defender out Moisander. I hope we get the performance we have been waiting for from Kayal.Tonights game is The Hoops most important of the season so far, let's get into them, In there faces, & we will wipe the floor with them(couldn't resist it.boom boom). Heres hoping for another great champions league night. Hail Hail

You know how stories on Social Networking sites can spout arms and legs.

Was seeing a lot about Ajax hooligans causing trouble at Central station wi the police + outside Failté on Facebook/twitter last night.

Seen people posting about their notorious group F-Side attacking the Gallowgate today/tonight, hopefully not though.

Anyone heard anything similar?

All I can say is safety in numbers in and around Celtic Park + Gallowgate tonight, keep an edgy and stay safe.

Let's show this mob how to have a party in Paradise tonight and over at The Dam in 2 wks time!

How's everyone feeling about tonight's game? I'm quite nervous just due to the fact we've not been taking a lot of our chances. Hope stokes finally steps up and deliverys on the big stage. Will be going to the youth game first at almondvale stadium before the big one at paradise, hope its two wins for the boys in green!

My team:

Forster

Lustig Ambrose Virgil Izzy

Mulgrew kayal
Forrest Ledley Samaras

Stokes

Really down to the bare bones, so can't see much other than the obvious. Don't think biton or pukki have don't too muh to merit a start yet in CL

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Obviously injuries and suspension have hampered our selection and subs options so I am a bit apprehensive.
We have not hit anything like top form this season although we have played well in spells/patches.
Missing chances has been our biggest problem all season and we are not the free-scoring team we expect from a Celtic side especially in a poor SPL.
I feel we are very light-weight and predictable up front and we will need to address this in January.
The CL is a tall order, but with a packed house and a peak performance; who knows? Ajax are no mugs but are not the same class as Barcelona or Milan.

Not much of a rumour, but was wanting to get folks thoughts on Charlie mulgrews recent twitter post. I personally wasn't offended and had a bit of a laugh, but I can see why folk were kicking off about it. This mans supposed to be a role model to kids and an ambassador to the club. I don't care when players have banter with fans and wind up trolls, but has Charlie taken it a step too far?

HH67

I seen folk calling for his job. Anyone of that opinion needs to lighten up in my eyes! This would be a total non starter if he wasn't a pro footballer.

HamiltonBhoy {Ed007's Notes - Any parent who lets young kids use Tw@tter needs to have a long hard look at themselves, it is no place for children. The Mulgrew thing is just another excuse for the faux outrage mob to get up in arms about. Some people seem to crave attention by trying to out-outrage each other and tend to be more 'horrified' over petty nonsense than any normal, sensible person should be.
I lost a follower on there yesterday because I am 'consorting with very very dangerous people' i.e. people he didn't like. That's fair enough, everyone has the freedom of that choice, but this clown (who I've never met or knowingly spoke to) has such a high regard of his own self importance he felt the need to tell me he was blocking me and why, I really couldn't give a $ hit if people follow me or not especially some wee anonymous no-mark that just spouts out and agrees with EVERYTHING the club says or does. Tw@tter is where people should express their own views on things, just like on here you either like it and take part or you don't visit, it is a lot simpler than some simple people think.}
