Genuine question, if we are to believe the hype that DD appointed both MON and Brendan Rodgers then has Peter Liewell ever appointed a decent manager and do we trust him to get it right this time?

I fear there will be no replacement. Let's see if Lennon goes first.

I know first hand that Lawwell, tried to bully hibs into a reduced transfer fee for John McGinn on basis they could sign him on a pre contract in January. I also know mcginn was devastated deal fell through.

Id bet my house on the board going down the middle and if they get rid of Lennon they appoint Kennedy, he's been groomed for years for the job .

Agree0 Disagree1

23 Nov 2020 09:43:44
DD is probably going to have to step in again for me and ensure the right calibre of manager is brought in. What are Rangnick or Marcelino doing right now? Last I knew both were without a club and that is the sort of level we should at least be trying for to rebuild and rejuvinate our team.

Pud I'm a twister and think it's time for Neil to step aside. I mean step aside and not walk away or be humiliated but accept assistance with humility and stay in some capacity. He should read Pope Benedict's reasoning for standing down. This is too much for me and I'm standing down because I love the Church. But you are 100% correct. Some of the personal abuse aimed at him by so called Celtic fans is absolutely despicable. No need. Ever. He's had enough of that from his arrival here in this country from day one to Scotland's shame without us joining in. Lest we forget the bullets through the post or Neil Lennon RIP scrawled on the walls of his home town in the north of Ireland. I take issue with your word optimism though. That means we could want something with no realistic chance of achieving it or success. My preferred word is that we should be filled with 'hope'. We are Celtic supporters faithful through and through and over and over we will follow you. God Bless the Celtic. ā˜˜ļø.

25 league games to go yet the leagues over according to the entitlement fans from both sides. We will be 14 points behind the weekend of the Scottish Cup final which will tip many over the edge! I'm an optimist and believe we will come good be it with what we have or if a new manager was to be appointed. Football fans are a fickle bunch when things go bad. I will always support the club be it through the good times and bad times but all those on social media hurling personal abuse at Lennon are scum. Do yous reckon NL will walk? Resign? I think Lawwell will want him to stay but personally I would like a change. Someone to have a new fresh approach to work with a good squad of players and take us forward.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Nov 2020 18:54:03
U must be joking or drunk. From the start of the season it's been rubbish. Players not wanted to be there or play for the manager. Management team are lost, players not fit and no idea what formation to play. A winger at RB who can't defend or cross and a midfielder (not ajer) at CB who can't head or defend. Conceeding goals time and again and struggling against teams like st mirren, Dundee it's and st johnstone.

And you think we should stay the same. U must be mad.

Agree5 Disagree0

22 Nov 2020 19:15:00
I don't know what makes me so angry and unhappy the most. The players continually struggling, knowing they will need to score three or four as we are losing more goals that I have seen for decades.
Players who do not give 100% and have no qualms about our situation or a manager who looks drained and devoid of any solutions; who's players are constantly letting him down and clearly want him out.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

22 Nov 2020 17:49:27
Got my doubts about or whole transfer strategy and how much actual say he gets in specific personnel. You just have to look at the last two windows for some real head-scratchers and/ or and misfits.
For me it has to be a managerial change as the current team are just not doing it for themselves or their manager and in any other season, the support would be venting their feelings loud and clear. PL and The Board shouldn't be untouchable either, as they are also at fault.

Simple answer is No!
It'd be better to spend money paying him off and getting in another manager in who'll get the best out the squad we have who in fairness should be romping this league.
Why spend when the players Lennon's brought in I. e Turnbull ain't getting a chance?

It's got to be a clean break from the past for me and some new, fresh ideas to revamp the whole training, preparation, fitness and tactics. MON and WGS had their time and place in Celtic history.
I was delighted and surprised when we signed the previous manager and the effect it had on he whole club was incredible. We need a similar 'tray-dropping' sensational unveiling to not only lift ourselves, but give the opposition something to ponder, as right now they gloat.

I've not spoke to a single fan that has faith in Lennon.

He has a noose around his neck and there's no chance he can operate like this for much longer.

This will be his last big gig in football but I hope for his own sake he does the decent thing and resigns. Its clear he doesn't know where things are going wrong and if he can't see the problems he sure as hell can't fix them.

22 Nov 2020 16:52:55
Tin foil hats on bhoys. But what if Lawwell told Rodgers that for the good of Scottish football, 10 in a row just can't happen. It would bury Rangers and its not good for business. Rodgers thought "OK well I'll go elsewhere".
When the rumour of him leaving for Leicester broke I thought no way will he go there, thinking he'd hold out for arsenal or someone like that. Maybe he just wanted out. Lennon the yes man brought in and given the job permanently.
Just a theory.

Twist.

My worry is they will want someone who knows the Scottish game so realistic options will be Strachan, O'Neill, Mackay or Coyle.

Is it worth the risk for any of those 4?

Ideal appointment would be Rafa Benitez or Guus Hiddink but I can't see it.

I'd be happy with Moyes, Lambert or Roy Keane but I am not sure any of them would want the job.

An outsider, and name I've not seen mentioned is Mark Hughes. Decent pedigree and could do a job for us.

Now is the perfect time for change lads! Take away the EL games weā€™ve got a good run of easier games leading up to new year! Get the new guy in and it gives him time to settle in and have a look at the players! Absolutely no reason to keep Lennon! But we all know that the egomaniac that is lawell will not do it! This is the clown who offered lennon the job in a shower while openly admitting that he never even looked at any other candidates when the rat left! Worrying times ahead Iā€™m afraid! He's said it more times than I can remember this season and there's no sign of it getting better other than very short bursts. The last 15 minutes of the game yesterday was how we were playing for 90 minutes towards the end of last season.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Nov 2020 14:54:34
A few years ago I said that Peter Lawwell's ambition is to win the league by 1 point so that he can claim success without spending a penny more than necessary. I think that has been proven as apart from the couple of years under Rodgers we have never looked like progressing in the way we should have done with our financial advantages.
After Rodgers walked out on us the right thing to do would be to have looked for a manager who would have continued what Rodgers started and maybe even improved on it but typically with this board they went for the cheap option and undone all the work that was done, instead of making progress we have set things back alarmingly.
Lennon did a good job in seeing us through the season after Rodgers walked out on us but that should have been as far as it went, he should never have been given the job permanently, they just can't help themselves in looking for the cheap option.
I am also a believer that you should never take your rivals for granted, it looks to me that our board believes that sevco would always be rubbish so there is never any urgency in trying to improve us. In the last couple of years sevco have kept pace with us up till Christmas then fell away, it doesn't take a genius to figure that eventually they will strengthen enough to keep going the whole season. I hope they collapse this season but I don't think they will.
Most clubs in our position would try to be ambitious by qualifying for the Champions league, we on the other hand are quite happy to stand still and sell our best players to make money, we should be more ambitious than that. I don't like the way Rodgers walked out on us but as an ambitious manager having to work under these conditions I can understand why.
The opportunity to win 10 in a row will probably never happen again yet our players don't look interested, It saddens me to see that sevco's desire to stop us doing the ten is far greater than our desire to achieve it.
If we don't turn things round quickly then it's not just Lennon that should walk but Lawwell should as well and take his penny pinching ways with him.

Believable8 Unbelievable1

22 Nov 2020 15:28:26
Good points, well made GerryC. We now sit 11 point's adrift in 2nd spot with two games in hand.
Our manager astounds us with both team selection and tactics in almost every game this season and with every rubbish performance blames everyone else but himself, yesterday throwing his Captain under the bus.
The biggest season in most of our lifetimes and Lenny doesn't have the answers. Time for this rubbish show to be sorted.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Nov 2020 14:52:12
I know the season is far from over but I didn't think we'd be as willing to give up our dominance in such a meek fashion. We are poor in every department, especially the manager. He can shake his head all he likes and say that performances are unacceptable but these players are delivering a product that is being fashioned by him.
When do the Board finally say enough is enough? HH.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

22 Nov 2020 14:04:17
I think if we take a long hard look over the past three years, we could only go one-way after The Invincible Season when we reached our peak and star players sold-on.
Even the previous manager had his wobbles; with dubious transfers, embarrassing European hammerings - not to mention a Red Imps fiasco.
During his tenure, he comfortably saw-off Sevco under The Bread-man, Pope Pedro and Graeme Muttley (twice) as the difference in class was night and day back then.
NL will always be thanked for stepping in during a tumultuous time that could have destroyed any team, but we endured and won the historic treble-treble.
Last season was close up to a point, but we were irresistible after the winter-break and played some of our best football in ages.
The CV outbreak turned football upside down in so many ways, with other knock-on effects that have set precedents and consequences no other manager or player had ever had to deal with in their lives.
There have been other issues within the club that fester at the foundations and deplete moral.
Fixture list, Internationals, Officials have all been mentioned on here, but a Celtic side on-song and fully focused would take all that in their stride like before.
The main problem has been pure complacency from Lawell downwards with a lack of professionalism, planning, preparation and passion.
NL has been struggling all season to get these players playing to any system or rhythm and DD has to intervene before we deteriorate any further and for all NL has been to Celtic; he will not want to be remembered as the man who lost the 'ten'. He should go now.

Seen on here that dean Henderson got mentioned as a possible loan, personally think it's rubbish and we would have no chance getting him anyway.
Seen however that utd want to sell sergio romero and willing to accept around 2.5m, surely worth a punt considering our current goalkeeping options.
Probably no chance he would want to come up here but think it would be definelty worth looking at.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Nov 2020 12:27:36
Didn't catch the game yesterday due to work. But seems from comments much the same from before the international break. I feel as though we've managed to get a result then the break has came and put us back to square one. I think its a lot to do with tactics, unsure of our strongest team, loyalty to players in positions, the lack of wingers in the team, loss of professional standard, lack of belief and unfortunately out of form players.

This is clearly down to factors coming from the training field, management and certain players. The problem is there is in theory possibly only 5 points between us and them with 3 old firm games to go and more half a season. Do we change manager and backroom staff early and gamble on that being a success of further hindering out chances? Or do we continue with the belief and backing, hoping to ride out the rough patch and salvage this?

One things for sure if we don't get the cherished 10 in a row, heads should hang from board room down to the players. We've had money, players and further opportunity. Fans have backed and continously invested in the club and to have it thrown back in their face is an unacceptable standard at celtic football club.

What is the gap going to be after another week of Lennon in charge? and another week after that, and then another week after that? If the board don't sack Lennon now it's because we can't afford a decent replacement!

Iā€™m with u malkybhoy, I said the same thing to my mate after the rangers game and again after the Aberdeen game. Iā€™m not overly fussed about the europa compared to domestic this season but even the performances there, especially that Prague game thatā€™s another game lennon could e easily gone after. Like u said how many more points dropped and rank rotten performances have we to witness before somethingā€™s done?

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Nov 2020 12:52:41
Malky I ain't a fan of lennon. I think tactically he can be naive. It appears he has prepared for big games in the past but doesn't keep that professional standard every game.

You hear the likes of brown talking about the professional standards Rodgers brought to the club a different way of thinking and preparing. Why was these standards not there from the start and did Lennon not have these prior? I'm just cautious that we go for a cheap foreigner or overhyped lower table BPL or championship type manager, who doesn't bring the standards we require.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Nov 2020 13:17:56
It was clear at half time that elyounousi and Ajeti weren't working. This is when Eddy and Grif should have came on.

It just seems that Lennon cannot get the team motivated for these closed door games. There is just a lack of passion and urgency.

We need changes and we need it now!

Agree2 Disagree0

24 Nov 2020 12:03:52
That doesn't stop Broony being professional himself regardless of manager. He's been rotten like the rest. Laxalt and Christie get a pass from me. The rest have chucked it.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Nov 2020 11:58:41
Well it's official, we are in crisis. The same mistakes repeated every week, and much the same from Lennon in every presser. Now i don't know what we do in training, but our shape and style of play, is so easy to break, every team will get chances to score. We do not have the players to play a three, for the moment at least, so why persist with it?

Players are being asked to do jobs that are not helping them or the team. Ajeti is a penalty box striker, and we have needed one since Hooper, but needs to play off someone. Eddy is the same, let him play a bit more off the cuff, but he needs a foil to drop and play. Griff and Eddy looked really sharp and might have had the making of a really good two up, they are fit now, get them in.

Christie takes too many touches and seems to think he must beat a man every time, Rogic drifts out because we never get the pass to him in space, and Calmac is wasted sitting too deep. We also play too far apart, passes are travelling 40 yards and this slows at all down. opponents defences just shuffle across keeping their line and their man. We get wide and can't cross because no one offer a proper threat in the air.

Sadly sevco are the total opposite. they know how to defend, they break quickly and they all seem to know where they should be at any time in a play. This only comes from coaching and drilling teams. So what are we doing? In three years gerrard has continued to improve sevco. he has made players better by simply playing a system that suits them, again the opposite of us. Man for man i believe we have better players, in some cases much better, but our shape is wrong.

Looking at it dispassionately, yesterday probably lost us the league. Between C.V., with its no doubt twists and turns, and a fixture backlog i cannot see us pulling it back. They will not lose another four games of that i am sure. I really hope at the season end i get pelters for writing it off. but.

Not sure we can even say man for man we are better anymore. Who are our players that are better. Other than Eddy I don't really see it. Our midfield has been out played and out fought for the last 3 Derbys. They are defending better than us. Scoring more than us and have a depth of squad now as well.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Nov 2020 13:47:19
Absolutely turns my stomach to say it but I think we have left it too late, theyā€™re playing far better football than us and wonā€™t drop the points they did last year. We need to plan for the future rather than get a steady hand in to see out the season. Even if we beat them 3 times we will drop daft points anyway but Iā€™ve seen nothing to say we would beat them. Itā€™s criminal to have let them overtake us, heads must roll.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Nov 2020 13:48:11
I dislike all things sevco, but im man enough to admit they are by far the better team this year so far, the sheep are pretty woeful today, but we need to win games for ourselves, not rely on other teams. If the wantaway players don't want to play for him, he shouldn't play them, but is lennon or lawell who picks the team, i have my doubts, why eddy didn't start yesterday after scoring 2 for france only they will know. Ajeti looks like he couldn't score in a brothel.

Fact is Rangers are getting the results that led us to the last 9 championships; we're getting the results that saw their so-called challenge collapse each time.

If we don't twist now, with just a few ify results, we'll be out of touch; maybe even before Christmas. The team don't look like they are chasing the league leaders at this stage: will they when its 8 points, and 10 points?

Cavalcanti we canā€™t count our games in hand as 3 points, weā€™re more likely to drop points.

Barkas- Ā£5million
Klimala-Ā£3.5 million
Turnbull-Ā£3.5 million
Soro-Ā£2 million
Taylor - Ā£2.5/ Ā£3 million
Bolingoli - Ā£3.5 million

That's around Ā£20 million on players that right now cannot in the main get a decent run out under the man In charge when they've been signed. Ā£20 million.

And ElHamed. And u can add Duffy to that list as his wage alone is equivalent to a transfer fee.

Barkas - harsh to put criticism on him with the clowns he has playing in front of him IMO.
Klimala - has looked good in glimpses. Really needs an extended run in the team IMO.
Turnbull - should be starting (C.V. aside) .
Soro - canā€™t judge as seen for about 20mins.
Taylor - average player.
Bolingoli - didnā€™t work out, C.V. clown, will he sold in the summer or released.

You could make a list of the last ten seasons of signings and there has been way more misses than hits. The amount of money weā€™ve wasted on strikers is shocking if you look at it, and would have been way better if invested in a quality proven striker rather than 4/ 5 signings at 2/ 3m each that then get shot off after a season or 2 for F all.

And ajeti is not being used right he is never a lone striker he lacks movement no doubt he can finish but needs a partner. and Hammond needs looked at as the signings haven't worked.

Mallythetally I agree mate. We should be looking to get balance in formation and playing 4-4-2 with Ajeti upfront with either eddy or Griffiths would work wonders.

For sparta game I would go with

GK Bain

LB Laxalt
CB Julien
CB Ajer
RB Elhamed

LW Moi
CM Rogic
CM Soro
RW Christie

ST Ajeti
ST Edward

Reason I've left McGregor out is he looks a bit worn out and in the centre of midfield you have Rogic who is more of an attacking CM who can push forward and Soro who looks like a box to box, ball winning anchor.

Brown is finished, should not be a starter.

Obviously we cannot disperse and recreate a whole squad in the next window - although it's very likely a couple will be sold.
The more logical and correct decision IMO is to bring in a manager who will assess, organize and motivate the players to produce what the vast majority are capable of.
It happened when the previous manager came in and we saw an immediate improvement in attitude and application. The support was buzzing and our rivals were totally deflated; plus if I recall James Forrest had one foot out the door - then produced his best form for years - as did a good few others who were toiling.
I have heard Roy Keane mentioned and there is no doubting his passion and no-nonsense approach, as some players obviously do need a kick up the arse, but would that solve or inflame things?
What is required is a well-respected figure in the game, who can lift moral, shake up a tired and flawed coaching regime and get these players enjoying their football in their best positions.
Rafa Benitez could be an option - not an easy one - but maybe?

not just the manager who has to go, the board must see what's going on and they should be acting, it consists of more than dd so surely some of them must have a say, the recruitment team must do better as lennon can only work with who they bring in as i don't think he has to much to say in the transfer department.

We need a total overhaul off the pitch starting with Lawwell.

If we lose league this season and 10iar then he is solely responsible for cutting corners with cheap options.

If Celtic is a business as Lawwell said, then why do we not have the best possible dof, manager and coaching staff? The old saying "you cannot afford to buy cheap" is true.

We will no doubt be looking for a new manager soon, he will want his own staff in and new players costing club more unnecessary expenditure if Lawwell had done it right first time.

Whats interesting as well regarding Lawwell is that since 2003, his overall transfer profit generated for club, is substantially lower than we are led to believe and had it not been for bumper sell on fee received from Van Dijk would in fact be a loss.

You need more running power in midfield if Rogic is starting and McGregor provides that. I don't like Broony and Rogic starting together because Broony doesn't have the legs to do the work needed to accommodate Rogic.
