I must admit I've been very impressed and pleased with the emergence of Stephen Welsh in the last few months. He looks very assured and reads the game very well for a young defender. I'm read numerous comments on social media from fellow Celtic fans stating he's be a good back up for next season. I don't buy that. I see no reason why he can't be a starter for us next season. I don't think he has put a foot wrong since he came in. We need to give our youth players an opportunity and a belief that they can make the grade at our club and accept that along the way these boys will make mistakes from time to time.

I agree, Welsh has been brilliant since he’s came into the team this season.
A couple of times late on yesterday, he read the game well to prevent them from setting up a chance on the break.
I liked the look of him on his debut away to Hamilton last season.
He started on the right side of a back 3 and then when Celtic went in front,
Young Welsh moved to right back in a flat back 4 formation.
I would continue to play him until the end of the season.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2021 23:38:06
That's one of the problems with the current Celtic way, young players rarely get the chance, if you come from a far off place and have an exotic sounding name, or are Irish, you have a much better chance of getting in the first team before a young player from the youth system, and then you have an older player, keeping out a young competent midfielder like Robinson, (spelling) , who gets put out on loan, instead of being given a run in the first team,

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2021 23:57:20
I completely agree Ice Man. Fans can be so fickle. If we can bring in a good CB with experience and the right coaching staff Welsh has the potential to do very well. Mistakes are how we learn, not what we should be crucified with.

Bhoys just listened to the podcast, I’m going to get my Skype fixed this week.
My comment is that I think Ed is a man ahead of his time, with the Brian’s and Foresight to have Paul as this first main contributor. He has give us all a simple introduction to the accent that our Manager’s interviews and press conferences will be delivered in next season.
Ed, as you say”Peace be upon Him”
He’s a Coming Bhoys.

Sevco are getting the whole weekend to celebrate, lifting their first ever major trophy.

Regarding the non pen, if eddy doesn't get put the way of the challenge he's getting a sore one, if that's outside the box it's a foul all day so why not yesterday, contact is minimal but he has to jump out the way because of a reckless challenge. gollum at his best.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

22 Mar 2021 13:36:19
Contact is irrelevent Mally if you read the Laws of the Game.

It is a direct free kick (therefore a penalty in the box) if the challenge is careless, reckless or uses excessive force.

To me Barisic went in with his studs showing and didn't play the ball. If Edouard has not jumped he would have been cleaned out. To me the challenge was somewhere between careless and reckless.

Careless is when a player shows a lack of attention or consideration when making a challenge or acts without precaution. No disciplinary sanction is needed

Reckless is when a player acts with disregard to the danger to, or consequences for, an opponent and must be cautioned.

Agree2 Disagree0

22 Mar 2021 13:44:35
Collum is a cheat Mally.
Did you notice how he tries to portray that he doesn't have a clear line of sight? He bends his neck to the right to look around the rangers player. If he looks to the left he has full sight of it.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2021 13:52:53
I agree with you Mally. For me it was a dive because he could realistically have got out the way and still took the shot on but that doesn't mean it wasn't a penalty. Barisic slides between Eddy and the ball, which means Eddy is forced to get out out the way. I'm not clued up on the wording in the rule book but I'd say that's obstruction.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2021 14:09:14
What about the other stonewall penalty we should have had before that when Hollander handled the ball at a corner. His hand was well away from his body and therefore in an unnatural position. No mention of this whatsoever on sky.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2021 14:48:44
By the way Mally, I am in agreement with you. I was just pointing out that contact is not necessary for a penalty to be given for a tackle.

another one for you Buzz; how many points dropped or games not won versus Sevco when the wee scrote is referee?

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2021 16:02:53
no point in always moaning about it. it needs to be challenged and not left till its routed right out the game or we will be losing out on more success to there cheating. all the evidence is there for there bias it needs took to task. hugh dallas with anti catholic emails it does not take a smart person to understand what club he will favour.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2021 16:05:36
I still can't see it being a penalty for me or I would say it would be a soft one if it was and I can't really argue much with the referee at all really in that game I think we let them off big time they were there for the taking but with a poor manager we didn't take the advantage.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Mar 2021 16:11:36
No problem lennon . he booked brown for nothing and ignored persistent fouling from sevco . and it is a pen for me all day if eddy doesn't move he is getting clattered and barisic ain't getting the ball.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2021 16:11:48
Glen
Sevco have now went 43 league games without conceding a penalty.
OAB
Celtic actually have a great record when Collum has been the referee in this fixture.
Celtic have only lost once and it was to Rangers in Willie’s first “ old firm “ match.
It was the game that Collum gave Rangers a penalty with his back turned.
Celtic won his next “ old firm “ fixture before they entered a Liquidation process.
Celtic are undefeated in the “Glasgow Derby” when Collum has been the referee.
Celtic have won 5 games and only drawn that One game yesterday.
Although Celtic have been superior in the games Collum has been the referee, Willie has still given them more penalties and sent off more Celtic players in his 8 combined Derby matches.

I noticed the stats last week and I was shocked myself.
One of the referee assistants from yesterday, went into the match with 6 wins for Celtic out of 6 games in the fixture.
With a combined score of 17-2 in favour of Celtic.
Now it’s 18-3.

I've spent a lot of time with Alex Neil and he's a good Celtic man and has a great view of how the game should be played but his spell at Preston has surely put his chances of managing us to bed.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

22 Mar 2021 07:22:54
Personally think eddy was off it again yesterday, he's got Into the habit of trying to walk the ball into the net instead of shooting, and should be anticipating whern the ball is coming from wide areas. rant over.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Mar 2021 09:40:21
Mally, agreed. If Eddy was half a yard sharper yesterday we would have won the game.
They had just come off the back of a tough match on Thursday night yet we never did anything like the pressing we should have.
Add to that our season long comic book defending at set pieces and it's another case of what might have been.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2021 10:03:50
I was surprised at how much trouble Celtic caused them at corners yesterday.
On another day we could’ve scored a few goals from free headers etc.
Heading ability is definitely a weakness Edouard has in his game.
Eddy is up there with Moussa Dembele, with the ball at his feet but the reason Dembele is a better player is because Moussa can score goals with his head.
I can only remember Eddy scoring 2 goals with his head for Celtic.
He scored a cracking header against Kilmarnock at Celtic Park and also a header in a European match.
There’s probably more but not much more.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2021 06:55:14
Thats the last 2 sevco games if we'd had someone on the post we would mot have conceded, it's a farce why do we mot Lear from this, even Mon said the same, its baffling making the same mistakes over and over.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

22 Mar 2021 07:15:58
Mally your right, I've never understand not putting players on the posts, it prevents lots of goals.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2021 07:48:37
Mally, this season the players have came under serious scrutiny and rightly so, but how many games this season have we conceded where having a man on the back post would’ve made a difference? That comes down to coaching . As a collective, what are the players and coaches doing to rectify these mistakes when watching re runs of these games? The amount of goals we’ve conceded this season from set pieces and not having a man on the back post is unreal and yet it continues. it’s pathetic. As for Kennedy, again as the same at tannadice his substitutions and timing of them are a joke. 75 mins yesterday before his first sub, then to sub brown with 3 mins to go and replace him with soro? What kind of substitution even is that? And to bring griffiths on with 3 mins to go anaw and take edouard aff Pathetic. As poor a game as edouard had, why not with 15/ 20 mins to go put griffiths up to with Edouard take a defender aff and just go for it?

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2021 08:06:26
Can't disagree with any of that garry. the brown and griff subs were baffling. if griff had got maybe 20 mins you never know and what's the point in soro for 3 mins. when defending corners/ set pieces we should have plenty bodies to pick up and cover posts. its amateurish and we never learn.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Mar 2021 08:12:56
Plus the sooner we stop doing this zonal marking sxxt the better. Mark man for man and height for height. I have yet to see space head a ball but we have seen plenty of opposition scoring on us. How can we think if we stand in a spot and allow the opposition a free run we can compete in the air. It's dreadful decision-making using this system. And l agree with the man on the post. Even if it only one on the opposite post to where the corner is coming from. All 4 goals this season against them are from set piece and the last 2 corners. Up to recently l saw a stat that said 43% of all the goals we conceded this season were from set pieces! Shocking just shocking.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2021 08:17:37
We don’t have a centre half who can come and win a header.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2021 08:45:32
It’s simple, put a man on the back post every corner. Surely that comes down to coaching and looking at the stats? Is that not the job of the coaching staff to look at that and implement it? It’s an absolute joke.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Mar 2021 09:15:26
It was ment to be Duffy but it just hasn't happened for him and julien unfit and is soft.

We were debating earlier in the week, if Celtic should try and sign Jon Jo Kenny.
I wasn’t sure myself and mentioned that the Glasgow Derby would be a massive test for him.
He failed miserably.
After the first few minutes yesterday, I mentioned to my son that Kenny looked nervous and he only got worse.
Both Kenny and Collum caused Celtic a well deserved victory yesterday.
He never once tried to take on Barasic and that’s simply not good enough for a Celtic fullback.
Our search for a 1st choice right fullback goes on.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Mar 2021 07:59:43
The 'Acid Test' Buzz, I agree which is a shame as I thought he looked solid before yesterday's game.
But we need to be better and stronger in every area.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Mar 2021 08:17:14
Kenny had a nightmare yesterday. He was at fault for the goal with first a crazy back pass if can call it that and then asleep at the corner. Like ye are saying buzz he never tried to take him man on. So for me not that answer after yesterday.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Mar 2021 08:17:18
True guys; when push came to shove he wasn't up to it. However, once again he was not the only one and I also include our coaching staff who got a few things wrong (before and during the game) .
Obviously our vulnerability at set pieces is old news, but we have only scored five goals in our last six games and that's concerning.
The unwanted stats still keep coming with More-or-less scoring and us going three home games against Sevco in a row without a win; although they will not attain an invincible season an unbeaten SPL campaign is one more stat to avoid and outplaying them is not enough.

21 Mar 2021 23:33:39

JonJoe has defended well for Celtic and he’s looked a decent player.
His final ball is probably his weakness.
He looked nervous yesterday in his biggest game for our club and he never had the confidence to take their full back on.
Hopefully he can gain a Scottish Cup Winners medal before he returns to your Great club at the end of the season.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Mar 2021 22:26:41
I was delighted with our performance today.
Celtic should’ve won the game and it was another honest mistake, which prevented a well deserved victory for Celtic.
I think the last time Old Club Rangers ever won 3 League games in a row at Celtic Park was back in 1958.
That New Year defeat was also part of 4 consecutive Celtic Park defeats which was matched this season for the first time in over 60 years.
I’m just glad new club Sevco didn’t match that 1950s record.
