Quick question:
Do we really expect Celtic to sign a Big Name, or do we trust RD. Going back over his seminar, I will be very very surprised if we sign the " big name". I think Ronny will look for players to fit his system.
For me whatever player Ronny buys in is fine he knows exactly the type of player he wants.

I'm happy with hidden gems! If RD picks his signings I think they will turn out good! He's developed 2. Of norways best players!

I'm sure RD would take a number of big name signings, bearing in mind we won't be going for messi, ronaldo etc, but only if they improve the team.

We have gradually spent less and less and went for lower profile managers in consecutive seasons from the MON days. As much as we all enjoyed a big signing or two, we have depended on hidden gems and potential over Marquis Signings and that will continue to be the case. The difficulty in attracting players from Top Class leagues can be counteracted with shrewd business from Europe and other continents and the acquisition of class, Scottish talent on our doorstep (as long as they are better than what we have).
It has been a while since we developed a star like McGeady, but Henderson, McGregor and Fisher look good prospects and the way we finished the season was very encouraging in both style and efficiency - and most of these guys will stay.
The main problem areas for Celtic as I see it, is how to replace Denayer (who was immense) and VVD if he leaves too?

"Sokratis Papastathopoulos" is that a big enough name for you or you looking for bigger?

Marquee signings are long gone in my opinion what we are about at celtic now is bringing in players that are hungry and or with something to prove the main reason for this is money the wages that would only be squad players like Steven fletcher are on more than double our highest paid 0

23 Jun 2015 13:33:28
Why shouldn't RD be allowed that bit extra quality though. I feel now like we brought him in more on his ability to work on a budget than the football he gets teams playing.

SOS what 2 of Norways best players has RD developed?

JimTim maybe ronny doesn't want to spend big because of big egos

Agree1 Disagree0

24 Jun 2015 17:59:40
No team wants to spend big if they can do it for less they will. PL is only interested in having a team to win the league and scrape through to the CL group stages so we get the extra cash the less spent the better the turnover at the end of the year its frustrating but good business if we pull it off

Not too often I agree with John Collins but he is bang on the money in saying Celtic have been let down in europe by other Scottish teams, because as UEFA base coefficients on the Country average our coefficient is lower because of the other Scottish teams failure to win more games in europe. Some on here might not like what I say next, but Celtic were better served by our neighbours across the city who helped build up Scotland's coefficient (remember the days when we had TWO CL places?) So until the other teams can help us Celtic need to gain as many wins in europe as possible to up our coefficient, this is not helped in the qualifying rounds when only 1 coefficient point is given for a win and 1/2 point for a draw, ideally Celtic need to win ALL SIX qualifiers to gain 6 coefficinet points, then on reaching group stages we get 4 bonus points, therefore Celtic would start on 10 coefficient points before the group games begin, a big ask, but surely Celtic are capable of this.

Have you looked at celtics records recently mate in the CL last years was a shambles in particular then there's the horrific away results over the years can't just blame other teams for that although I agree that other team results don't help the matter

Agree3 Disagree3

22 Jun 2015 22:23:37
@Johnston. Nobody was more critical than me about last year CL qualifiers, Ronny just changed things too quick. But to say our record is horrific is a bit harsh. We have punched above our weight. Look at Man city, hundreds of millions spent and they struggle. Also if u look at CL away games very few teams win way from home. Its usually only the elite that do so.

its not to often I agree with john collins and this is one of the times I don't agree with him,why should celtic worry about co-efficients,ok so they have to play more qualifing games so what ,so what if they've got to play the champions of wales or iceland or the republic,or whoever,if they can't get past then hell mend them, last years CL fiasco was down to RD,plain and simple ,picking the wrong team and playing the wrong formation.

23 Jun 2015 00:34:10
Agree on one point Aindoh. Celtic need these preliminary games as a build up to European football. It's not the same as playing SPFL teams. I can't agree about the Ronnie comment though, bit harsh considering he was rushed in at the last minute to take over Lennon's team. Let's judge him after this years campaign. Only fair isn't it?

What I meant BigRab,is when Ronnie came in he tried to change the system and team selection too fast,he should have been more conservative, thats why I blame him for the CL fiasco, this year hopefully we will see the benefits of Ronnies methods after having a season to get everything in place, its just his team selections leave me a bit nonplussed sometimes.

One player I like and think could do a job for us is Michu from Swansea. Napoli have decided against a permanent deal and I think he wants to leave Swansea. Not sure what he would cost and what wage he would be on but worth a shout? What's your thoughts?

He's been injured pretty much constantly for a while now. It would be too much of a gamble I'd imagine.

I'd imagine Michu will be out of our reach on both counts .

So our CL journey begins in Iceland (other frozen food shops are available lol) this new season I am more confident because of the following. Delia has had a full year to settle in and settle in the whole team, he has the team much fitter also, another plus is all games will be at Celtic Park and not murrayfield like last year, we are also not travelling the globe on tiring friendlies thus our energies should be saved for the qualifiers, I expect big things from Armstrong and Mackay-Smith, also Brown missed our qualifiers last year so he should be available this time, overall team is more fitter and now trust Delia's methods with one or two more additions I am more than hopeful of at least CL group stages and dare I hope for last 16 or even quarter finals hail hail

Sorry meant to also say Stjarnan are 8 games into their season and are lying 6th, their goal difference is 10 for and 10 against, so look to be a team that scores goals but also loses as many also. Celtic, if properly prepared, which I am certain we will be, should be able to overcome this team even on another plastic pitch over there, let's hope we score 10 at Celtic park but without reply lol

Agree0 Disagree1

22 Jun 2015 13:10:35
10 goals scored in 8 games isn't very impressive, especially for one of the top teams in the league. We should be able to put them away.

Agree0 Disagree2

22 Jun 2015 13:22:13
Tim, I to think that the Celtic team will be 100% better prepared for the qualifiers that come our way. We have to be patient when it comes to new signings as we are linked with everyone but we are right when we are saying we want them in sooner rather than later. The Allen from Hibs story is total guff but if Sevco sign him the headline will be that they beat us to him. Hail Hail

Agree1 Disagree1

22 Jun 2015 13:42:59
theyre not brilliant by any means. we should put them away with minimum fuss

Agree0 Disagree1

22 Jun 2015 16:23:18
This is a good draw for us! Not to far to travel and a team we know a little bit about after they beat the mighty last season! Should be comfortable over 2 legs! Any more word on vossen ED? Said in a few of the papers today we had approached genk?

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Vossen, who's been given an extra weeks holiday by Genk, has been telling friends he will be playing in Glasgow next season and Middlesbrough have started looking at other options. The way things look it's just really down to the clubs agreeing the fee to get the ball rolling.}

22 Jun 2015 17:00:00
So we're defo interested then ED? Never know with the Pish these papers talk! If he's sayin to friends he'll be playin in glasgow that's got to be a good sign but eh? Or maybe sevco are going to bid for him haha! Hope this one comes off ED,really like this guy.

Nice one Ed, For what I seen of him in the championship last season I was impressed be delighted with him mate

If we could or if you know of another player called CORNETTO or like we could have jelle and ice cream up front pmsl

As a said previously the commercial side will be rolling in it if we get him and stick JELLE on the back of his shirt (Y)

I have seen Stjarnan before on YouTube. Their goal celebrations have gone viral due to the complexity and strangeness of the routines. Check them out.
Thumbs up on the Vossen transfer if it comes off.

Ed are we actually interested in vossen? I don't know what I think about the transfer but at least we know he has some ability in comparison to other CF we have been after before but I would like some one with the potential to be a star!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Yes we're interested in Vossen.}
