Ed I have a question, if you or any of the posters know the answer.

Where did the 'h' in bhoy come from that Celtic fans use? {Ed007's Note - Sorry for the cut 'n' paste. But the widely accepted story is:

"That's quite an old one", said Celtic's helpful press officer, who admitted he wasn't able to give a definitive answer to our question but would give it a good shot.

The first tangible bit of evidence the club have for their strange nickname is a postcard from the turn of the century which refers to the Celtic team of the time as "the bould bhoys" (sic). It is thought the extra letter in "boys" was added to phonetically represent the Irish pronunciation of the word, with a soft inflection of the h.

The writer of the postcard didn't coin the nickname as such – the team were known to many as the "bold boys" soon after the club was founded in 1888. But whoever the scribe was is widely credited with the unique spelling, and deserves the thanks of anyone who has had to write a back-page headline for a Glasgow newspaper in the past 100 years or so..'

@OMR a wee Q for you, where did the name Sevco5088 come from?

, ., .kbarry

Agree0 Disagree0

It's obviously a play on Gaelic spelling. A remnant in a country where, sadly, hardly anybody (inc me) can speak their own language. My great grandmother couldn't speak English, only Gaelic, and I can speak hardly a word of hers, yet we both lived in the same small country. It was the schools wot did it. Sorry attempt at mixing it there. Here's a word in English, THE, part of your brand new clubs name, find a play on that.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sevco5088 has an equally historic foundation. It is widely understood to originate from the ancient Sevconia region of Glasgow where thieves and vagabonds would gather at the end of each day to laugh at the sorry souls they had just robbed. It was here that they shared their lies and their latest methods of taking money from the gullible clowns of the area. They were in many senses an early version of gypsies and would entrap their prey by promising a lot but delivering just a little. And there were 5088 of the buggers.

@chrisbhoy, pure quality man, the story that just keeps on giving.

Agree0 Disagree0

@chrisbhoy, why don't you send the script to jk rowling? Utter brilliance, ., .kbarry

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks Ed007 for actually answering what was just an honest question.

kbarry must still be fuming that I owned him the other night, as I see he didn't even reply on the other thread lol. Poor soul.

Agree0 Disagree0

@6 "owned" me? Doubt it, but who owns your new club? Show us your deeds, your club died, ., .kbarry

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed a wee question: why oh why do you pick and choose wich posts get posted?. Reason I ask is because I had posted a reply to omr@6 before my@7 got filtered through. The post of mine @7 was chose why? Cheers any for not letting my post through the other night Re: replying to omr and now a zombie thought he "owned" me the other night,,, lol, ., .kbarry. Cheers again {Ed007's Note - I pick and choose what is posted because that's what I am here to do although I don't see how that is anything to do with you.
Let's face it, your posts bounce between childish and immature trolling to complete garbage. Banter is certainly not one of your finer qualities (unless you really still are at primary school). I'm actually trying to save your embarrassment by not posting some of the muck you send in. Some of your posts I need to read a few times just to work out what you are saying and if it is relevant to the thread.
There are plenty of posts that don't get posted but you don't see others on here whining and bitching about it do you?
I am not the only editor here either, there are others that cover the sites. It must be one of them that deleted whatever tiff you had and spat your dummy out because I can't remember it.
Then you start accusing me of being OMR, are you really that thick?
But if we ever need any advice on how to run websites you'll be the first to know, but I wouldn't hold my breath if I was you, or you could go and built your own site.}

Agree0 Disagree0

@ kbarry

That was actually not too bad, quite witty. Someone else must have come up with that for you! Lol.

PS If I didn't own you (I did though) then Ed007 certainly did there lol. That was a verbal mauling! Excellent stuff Ed.

Agree0 Disagree0

The 5088 represents how many board members they've had since they started in 2012 lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

@9)

If owned means getting the last word, then does that mean your lack of reply the other night means I owned you?

With Laxey Partners (offshore Isle of Man tax free status?) taking up the cheap shares, perhaps from blue pitch, we are told the AGM will be a nod through for the current incumbents.

Did the McCall/ Murray camp ever tell anyone which shareholders they had onside and what % they held. always totally smoke and mirrors?

The daily rag has previously said Laxey specialise in holding the real owners shares, to put forward pressure on boards to deliver dividends for shareholders. Forget about expensive players.
Laxey have an option in greens shares in early December.
Is this latest share transfer to take the heat of blue pitch? Is Craig Whyte behind blue pitch? And now Laxey? Who knows?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I may be wrong but are dividends not only paid out of profits? Jbhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Laxey appear to be getting shares in private deals with green and his close original investors. McColl was never getting these shares behind him anyway. So McColl still has the same backers surely?

Agree0 Disagree0

I expect Laxey to probably push for annual dividends for the shares they hold possibly on behalf of others.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well Laxey are the biggest shareholders now and expected to take on more shares in Dec. deady bears need to start asking questions of them and their motives and plans. If they see more profit in stripping assets? Land value? These guys are profit driven people not benevolent sevco fans. As biggest shareholders why are they not on board?

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheaper players, lower wages, less employees, those all start cutting back the £13.5m overspend each year and start delivering dividends.
Been rumoured Murray park could go. It's very expensive and would bring in good money. They're not developing youth. They need millions from somewhere to get through to the end of this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cutting back a £13.5m overspend is easier said than done. The only way is to have the cuts mentioned & raise ST prices, then maybe break even if they're lucky. Jbhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Dun look behind that hedge fund curtain, dun look, awwww gee, it's the wizard of Oz himself -CW.

Ticketus got rolled over for £22m nearly two years ago. Which court room have they summoned CW to? Anybody know? None? Private pay back deals being done?

Agree0 Disagree0

It's all very strange goings on over at the Govan tip. I'm not an expert but doesn't this look a bit fishy? An asset stripping, offshore hedge fund company set to become the major shareholder in Sevco and will be free to do whatever they please to balance the books. Minty park is gone, the asbestos ridden dome sold and leased back at funny money, the Albion gone, playing staff axed, backroom staff axed, support staff axed, and mcmoist shown the door. I think this could be the beginning of the end for the sevvies. Quite an irony that TRFC, s largest shareholder are a tax avoiding company based in the IoM, you couldn't make it up!

Agree0 Disagree0

The gullibles being used to pay back Ticketus via the "same club" ruse?
After Ticketus get their dough and profit watch the same club story melt away. Possibly at same time Ticketus allows BDO dissolve RFC.

Agree0 Disagree0

@8 BigRab Hope you are wrong about Sally being shown the door mate

I have mentioned this before, but a signing recommendation from me would be Braga defender Elderson. He is a solution to our problem left back spot, 25, 6'1'' and fast, likes to power forward but can also defend. Nigerian international. Best thing is he is out of contract in 6 months time (June 2014) so Braga would probably be happy to deal in January. I heard we were watching him a while ago, but nothing since. Another player who could easily be sold on for profit. Jean-Pierre Laguerre.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Great shout mate, been a fan of him myself and would be great competion for izzy (would put him on the bench easily imho). Wasn't aware of his contract situation which would make him even more so EXACTLY the kind of player Celtic should be looking for. Really think we need to get you on the scouting team, ti's not the first player mentioned that makes perfect sense

agree with tompo about jean pierre on the scouting team lol some great shouts about players. don't know much about this lad but the rest you have mentioned has been good shouts mate. getting near that time again and definately can see us getting a few pre contracts in

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks a lot bhoys - appreciated. He played left back in the Confed Cup with Efe at right back, and actually scored against us a few years ago when Braga gave us a hiding in europe. He signed a 4 year contract in June 2010 so unless it has been extended, I think he should be available. Jean-Pierre Laguerre

First of all well done to Samaras, Lustig and Ambrose on reaching the World Cup Finals with their respective teams.
But is anyone else worried, like I am, about the effect on the team next season.
These players will come back exhausted from Brazil especially playing in the heat over there.
We also know that Sammy and Ambrose can be "erratic" at times, factor in their tiredness and Celtic may have 3 players "missing" for much of the season.
Am I worrying too much, or do I have cause to worry? Timalloy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sweden didn't make it m8, van dyjk still in with shout along with Forster

Agree0 Disagree0

Lustig didn't make the finals Timalloy.
I know what your saying but i'm a bit different, i'm looking forward to seeing our players in Brazil, it will give the games more interest.
The CL qualifiers will take care of themselves and at least these players should be "match fit".

joeshmo1888

Agree0 Disagree0

Lustig never made it Tim (thanks to Ronaldo and Portugal) but Forster might be in the England squad.
Not sure if Izzy is a regular for Honduras though or if Boerighter still has a future with Holland? ut those two qualified too.
Hope Ambrose and Samaras are given an extended close-season to avoid the fatigue factor you mentioned.

JJ

Agree0 Disagree0

According to mms we have six players involved so far. Fraser foster, Efe Ambrose, samaras, izzy, tom rogic (who I would love to see attain the potential you hear about) and big Virgil, am just glad to see some celtic players involved, adds to the excitement and bragging rights

OOPS silly me, I actually meant to say Rogic but typed Lustig instead, in my defence I am old and stupid. lol
But if potentially we have 6 players in Brazil I will be even more worried, although it will be a massive coup for a Scottish club playing in a "pub league" to have so many World Cup players involved. Timalloy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The icelandic striker we wanted was Finnbogason and instead the icelandic striker we get is Fridjonsson, are our effin board having a laugh? Could've gone to iceland, should've gone to specsavers. I'll support the lad and hope/wish he turns out to be a cracker, but what about the kids/20y.o strikers Atajic, Watt etc that we already have? Is it the scrapheap for them now. I realise 100k ain't a huge gamble but come to eff the board, enoughs enough, ., .kbarry

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Its competitive to get a first team shirt, and then keep it.
If they're good enough they get it. If they develop but cannot break through they get sold and still make money.
That's how it should be.
Competitive, cold, professional.
Stay frosty.

Agree0 Disagree0

Kbarry I totally agree my friend. I just don't get this one at all!?!?!?!?! Either John Park has been tipped off big time, or NL is making a statement of spending the last of his budget for this season. You'll have to forgive me mate, I am a conspiracy theorist. But honest, this is strange. All the very best to the bhoy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe another Rasmussen? But as you say we need to give the lad a chance.
I'm really getting fed up with signing all this 'potential' when most of them get farmed out or disappear altogether (like a lot of our home grown lads).
We may be in an inferior league with little cash to spend, but the cost of watching this inferior league plus the CL matches should generate enough to at least buy a couple of Celtic class entertainers the fans deserve.
Strachan managed to attract and buy some better players so why can't NL?

i don't think we will spend big until the charlatans are back in the spl, we don't really need too. peter lawell ain't daft so I reckon we will keep going the way we are regarding transfers then when the walking dead are up lawell will spash the cash and just blow them out the water. leagues ours for a few yrs yet lads, champs league realistically ain't going to be ours no matter what amount off cash we spend on players.and whos to say we haven't tried to get BIG players, most wouldn't wanna play in spl. if john parks recommended this boy i'm willing to back him, wether he's a hundered grand or 10 million he's a celt now and shouldn't be bitched at because he didn't cost more.bhoywonder
