Manchester United. One of footballs unique clubs, from the Babes to Tommy Doc to Ferguson, always had what the special clubs need, Passion.

From the stands to the legendary tea ladies everyone pulls together in the one direction. Emotion spills from the stands, or preferably the terraces, and can lift players. How many times at Celtic have the collective pulled us through? My particular favourite was the Sporting Lisbon game by the way.

Now things are different. We have let corporate loose on the game. This has been happening for years, witness the half and half scarves at the Manc derby. HALF CITY HALF UTD! But this seems to be common down there. But to my main point.

United are considering handing out club song lyrics for fans to sing. Sad. One of my closest pals, Jet, a United fanatic sadly passed, would have been outraged as i know many Utd fans will be. What have they done to our game?

Corporations do not care about the fan who looks forward to his weekly dose of medicine, they are money men. Every thing they can squeeze out of you is the objective. We must be vigilent against this culture. Of course you will never stop it, people with money to spend will always want/ prefer better services and viewing conditions, but never to the cost of real punters.

Sorry about the length guys but coupled with the latest CL carve up this has really pi55ed me of.

I think it was inevitable in England, because over the decades we have seen a gradual 'Americanization' of football clubs being bought as a franchise business, directed by billionaire businessmen and companies with mega-media outlets having too much power and influence
on the structure and organisation of competitions and formats.

Football has long since been redirected from the 'common man' in terms of ticket prices, merchandising and even kick-off times and although we have no choice but to move with the times and for Celtic to cut their cloth accordingly - the support will always be the lifeblood of any club and I don't think Celtic fans would ever forget the words of big Jock. "Football is nothing without fans" and the Celtic support will never need song-sheets lol.

21 Mar 2018 13:24:01
Absolutely, I'd 100% prefer to scrap Europe at that stage and just go domestic playing local lads.

make the football local again = and forget their global handpicked USA style franchises and tourist support filled stadiums.

Just a general comment chaps.
Not too long ago 90% of us would have been happy to sell Forrest for a quid and think we'd got a good deal, but since BR came in we see a different player altogether over an extended period. I know Jamesy has had injuries to deal with but I must say I'm impressed by his work rate and dedication as well as his talent. HH.

Had a quiet but very effective game a ibrokes. Gave up a lot of freedom to cancel them out on the wings. Has bad days, like most wingers, but is well marked most of the time. Had a good season.

Agree3 Disagree1

21 Mar 2018 07:57:07
That attitude was developed over several anticlimactic years to be fair. You have to hand it to him though, he's been excellent since BR came in and long may it continue.

Agree3 Disagree1

21 Mar 2018 08:08:05
I still find him frustratingly wasteful to be honest. Credit where it's due, JF has had his best season. His work rate certainly has improved. I'd play Roberts ahead of him next though 😅.

21 Mar 2018 08:30:57
Great season and deserves the praise but for me a fit PR starts.

Agree2 Disagree0

21 Mar 2018 08:46:10
Would you not play Roberts on the left as he always seems to cut in and have a pop with his left and seems strong with it so why not paddy one side Forrest on the other? Looking forward to having a for squad back for push to back to back trebles think the team needs Griffiths back though. A fun few weeks ahead for the zombies with take over panels audited accounts coming up or maybe not? Can they pay the wages. lol 😂🍀⚽️.

21 Mar 2018 08:56:29
Paddy starts all day long for me! I’ll give Forrest credit for improving and having a good season, but as jim says he’s far to wasteful and still frustrates the life out of me! If both are on top form then it’s not even close! Paddy is by far the better player.

Through his whole Celtic career Forrest has popped up with great games or real important goals but now he has added a real consistency to his performances. In IMO he has been our POTY this season.

Agree2 Disagree4

21 Mar 2018 09:50:00
He hasn't scored a league goal since boxing day kev. Not consistent enough for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Mar 2018 10:20:41
Broony is POTY for me! Consistent through the whole season and dragged the team through when they’ve struggled, which has been more than a few times this season! Would love to see him get the recognition this season! On the cusp of back to back trebles and the first name on our team sheet, got to be him IMO!

Agree6 Disagree0

21 Mar 2018 10:42:07
I couldn't have put that much better Lh86. Broony for me too. He's always there abouts for POTY. He wins it comfortably this time.

Agree5 Disagree0

21 Mar 2018 11:37:56
JimTim he's a winger not a striker and has 16 goals and 6 assists this season.

Agree2 Disagree4

21 Mar 2018 11:46:42
He's scored more goals than paddy did last season.

Agree2 Disagree4

21 Mar 2018 11:56:02
16 goals is good going for a winger but 6 assists doesn't sound too good for someone who's supposed to create, a know our strikers haven't been on fire but that's low I would've thought. Broonie all day long for me too.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Scott Sinclair has scored 17 goals and has 15 assists, Steph and I think everyone agrees he's not hit the heights he did in his first season. Forrest - as expected - has floundered in the second half of the season and it's only injuries to Roberts and Hayes that have kept him in the team. Going with what Chris Davies has said today Paddy Roberts will be giving the nod over Forrest after the international break.}

21 Mar 2018 12:40:38
Good to have and not need than to need and not have. It gives us another dimension and when we switch to different players and formation it can only be good for the game/ team and confuse the enemy.

I hope BR has them all fit for for the semi, must win game and firing on all cylinders. hail hail.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Mar 2018 12:25:54
Roberts has been injured for so long and missed so many games this season, it was inevitable that Forrest was given so much game time.
Fortunately, he has grabbed his opportunity with some great displays and important goals, but I would still love to see Roberts, kept on (for at least another season) , as his trickery, link-up play and goals can only be an asset to Celtic - short or long term.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Has Forrest really grabbed his chance though? Since his goal against Dundee on Boxing day he hasn't scored a league goal and has a measly 2 assists to his name. Apart from his hat-trick against Partick in the cup he has had a very mediocre, James Forrest like, second half of the season.
I can't see how that is him showing the consistency that some people are saying.

21 Mar 2018 12:26:45
Paddy is miles ahead of JF. Would rather it was the other way around with JF being an Academy product but that is the reality of it. Would have a fully fit Paddy starting every day of the week. Hopefully everything is done in the summer to get him in on a long term deal.

Agree2 Disagree0

21 Mar 2018 12:31:39
Interesting stats Ed on paper you would think it was Sinclair performing and Forrest under performing.

Wouldn't it be great to see Sinclair back to his best.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Fingers crossed Sinclair, and a few others, get back to their best for the run in and more importantly for next season.}

21 Mar 2018 13:29:43
id still play sinclair and paddy on the wings, they are better than forrest and sinclair needs to start again refreshed and raring to go the boy can't stay off form forever he's too good for that, and he also gets us plenty of goals.

Agree7 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I'm with you, James. Sinclair's stats are incredible when you consider how poor his overall performances have been. If he was a striker or CAM/No.10 with those stats we'd be raving about him but because we expect to see Sinclair running teams ragged like last year, people - me included btw - have been on his back a bit. He'll definitely come good again.}

21 Mar 2018 13:33:47
We'll get a nice wee boost for the run in with Paddy, Armstrong and hopefully Griffiths looking to get plenty game time after the International break.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - We've certainly missed Griffiths mate.}

21 Mar 2018 13:47:33
Was disgussing Griffiths last week with a few mates and everyone agreed that we wanted him to be a Tim for the rest of his days. Not just his goal threat they way he brings others into play, his delivery from corners and of course freekicks. He's a terrific player.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - LG's a perfect example of a player grabbing his chance when it came, the turnaround in him as a player since Deila gave him a talking to is fantastic. It took a while for it to sink in with him but he's turned into a top player for us and seems to have calmed down with the stupid wee laddie stuff that dragged him down in the past.}

21 Mar 2018 14:02:19
At the very least we've missed his corners. How can professional footballers not hit a dead ball.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Mar 2018 14:18:06
I made a bolt statement on here over a year ago that given his age and ability he could outdo Henriks record. If he signs a long term deal i still think he can do it as you expect a goal every game.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - That's a bit more than bold!! He'd need to score about 30 goals a season for the next 5 years and he turns 28 this year.}

21 Mar 2018 17:59:50
and player of the year for us is KT 100% commitment everytime he takes to the field.

When Leigh signed I thought we’d have another case of Dereck rhiodan on our hands - bags of skill but ultimately a Ned, Leigh has devolved a love for the club and brought consistentency into his game and for me any future sale of the moose will be offset by a fit Leigh griffiths.

Sinclair is a great player, he has a real gift, his contribution to our cause this year has been immense despite us all thinking he’s been poor! Cheer him on and let’s get him back to his best.

Forrest has done a job but ask yourself this - so you want us to sign Paddy and if so who would he replace, enough said.

Agree1 Disagree1

21 Mar 2018 18:22:25
Forrest so much better now because for so long he was a passenger. His final baw is still not anywhere near good enough if we are to progress. His firm has dipped a bit again, he’s not alone there though with only a handful getting pass marks. If it’s between him and Paddy it’s paddy all day. He would get a start before Sinclair as he gets worse every week and I thought was awful on Sunday. It’s alarming to see how far he has deteriorated.

Agree0 Disagree1

21 Mar 2018 18:42:52
Paddy has to prove himself, more so than James . You cannot be held responsible for not playing whilst injured, but neither can you be held in higher esteem than the players who have gone out week after week and mostly done a good job . As far as James Forrest is concerned there are a few Celtic supporters who look to the bad displays he has given and plants them in their mind and forgets the very many really good performances he gives.

21 Mar 2018 19:16:02

Ed. Any news on us signing paddy permenantly. What a waste this season has been for him. He missed all the qualifiers and been injured most of season. Imo we need to make him priority signing. Musonda/ sinky rogic/ new no10 paddy/ jamsey should be the 3 behind moussa/ griff. That leaves us only needing a rb and cb in the summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It'll be the summer before there's anything happening with Roberts.}

22 Mar 2018 00:00:46
Rogic will be at the World Cup so will miss most of the qualifiers if not all. That still leaves us with Musonda, McGregor and Christie for the number 10 role. Lustig and Gamboa will be in the same boat so we'll only have the returning Ralston for RB. Would hope we make that our first priority rather than playing Ajer or Hendry there. CB we'll need to move on Boyata/ Jozo before signing another CB. We'll be without Roberts and Edouard unless we push the boat out and sign them. Moussa is likely to be away too. Other than the returning loanees we are going to be weaker going into qualifiers so hopefully we make some early signings rather than waiting to find out our European fate.
