Thanks for the reply, yeah I know fans would use it as an excuse, but I believe other fans would see the bigger picture .

However it works out, I hope we can fit in O'Connell, Nesbitt and maybe one more kid if all goes well .

Looking forward to it and just hope EKFC players take it all in .

Playing the Famous Glasgow Celtic .

Another time bud, goodnight :)

Hi Ed is there any news on us signing Kristoffer Ajer?, did he impress when he was on trial?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - CFC are expecting an answer in the next few days from IK Start and Ajer regarding the player moving to Glasgow in the summer.}

21 Jan 2016 21:37:54
Cheers Ed, Could Ljuban Crepulja be a second choice to Ajer as i can't see us signing both. Ajer is supposed to be top talent, i don't know much about Crepulja but after watching a youtube video his passing looked very impressive, i know its youtube but some of his passing was top drawer.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Ajer hasn't even turned 18 yet so I don't see him coming in and going straight into the first team squad like 22 y.o Crepulja. It also depends who's leaving before next season.}

21 Jan 2016 21:58:38
Who do you expect to leave Ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Take your pick from Lustig, Izaguirre, Mulgrew, Ambrose, Forrest, Commons, Scepovic, Stokes, Ciftci and Cole.}

21 Jan 2016 22:55:49
Ed, I read an article which highlighted a Croatian reporter having a bit of a pop at Crepuljas ability. He said Celtic looking at Mocinic was fair enough but this guy is basically a step down and isn't good enough. Do you reckon he's a bit of a hit and hope and that's why he's having a trial? Maybe there are some doubts about him?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I've never seen Crepulja play so I can't comment on his ability. Trials aren't just for the club to look at the player, it lets the player have a look at the club's facilities and the city as well as letting the manager and coaches talk football with him and tell him what would be expected of him etc. on and off the park.
I'm starting to think it might be a RD thing, getting young players over to have a look at them but more to get the chance to talk/work with them over a few days.}

22 Jan 2016 09:27:40
Hopefully all parties come to a positive conclusion. Watching the videos, there's no denying he has an eye for a pass but obviously a Croatian sports writer is going to have a more well rounded opinion of a player than we can get from a few video clips.

Agree0 Disagree1

22 Jan 2016 12:12:22
Kevbhoy if the reporters are anything like ours i wouldn't pay much attention.

22 Jan 2016 11:53:26
Ooft that is a big list Ed but we would only miss three of them in my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I can't see them all leaving but as things stand I'd say the exits will come from that list.}

22 Jan 2016 16:55:43
Ed. you put mulgrew up on your list twice. Is there another one? Sweet Jesus if there is. Was the Double counting your way of reinforcing your one preference re what happens to Charlie?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I never noticed that - I must have subconsciously put him once as a realistic exit and the second time just in case anyone missed it the first time.}

22 Jan 2016 22:55:47
Really we could part with all nine and we wouldn't weaken our first team . However the first four would need replacements but the last five could be got rid of and replaced maybe from within the squad .

ED007 watching STV tonight and they are saying the SFA chose Hamilton for our cup game without consulting East Kilbride who apparently wanted Hampden or Motherwell, obviously for a bigger crowd as New Douglas park only holds 6,000. Surely the SFA are depriving wee thistle of much needed revenue, very strange as surely the SFA are meant to HELP their member clubs.

As a good will gesture we should tell EK to keep the gate money in my opinion. The chances are they will never ever be in a position to earn money like this ever again.

21 Jan 2016 21:21:19
Wee Pat SFA only care about what suits them. Take for example Rangers (R. I. P) . They should of been treated the same way as Gretna. They folded and their membership to league system was revoked.

On plus side for East Kilbride, this will arguably be the biggest game in their history. Every man and their dog from East Kilbride will want to watch game. So hopefully bigger stadium will generate extra gate revenue for them.

Ps, would it not be great if we (Celtic) somehow could manage a draw against EKFC, thus ensuring them of 50% of the return leg money also . just a thought .

Believable0 Unbelievable4

21 Jan 2016 20:41:21
I don't think that would be great. I don't many Celtic supporters would think it great either . Those who want RD out would celebrate for days, thinking their prayers had been answered.

Hi guys

Stefan J is great when firing on all cylinders

Unfortunately since he 'banjoed' (allegedly) wee Tierney his coats been own a shoogly peg

We have the makings of a team to take us forward in Europe if they can play to RD's setup.

Gordon

Tierney siminovic efe

Forrest brown biton rogic Christie

Griffith's commons

All inter changeable

Lustig I would rest and look at the foreign players coming in before making any judgements on them .

Everybody has their own take on formations and players . that's mine for now . :) bye for now .

Malika20

I think a 3-5-2 set up would be better, as in it would protect the defence better also allows the five to push up and make a front three or four and still leaves the sitting mid, in saying that even when we have enough to cover in defence we still get caught out by quick one two's or ball watching .

Do you think RD will get another window to finalise "HIS" selections?

Christie, Armstrong, Allen and Brown (browns replacement? )

Could be the future midfield for years to come .

Unless lustig recovers form and fitness he to might get replaced (janko ) ?

My lineup from earlier was to see the league tied up, as soon as poss please :) then prepare for the qualifiers ., .

Yours is a good shout though :)

22 Jan 2016 08:43:06
I think the games we seem slow in build up is down to the balance in midfield. Rogic is most improved along with McGregor whom I must admit i didn't think he had it in him, also Allan seems to be coming on well when he gets chanfe. If we play a 442 why not play Griffiths and Forrest as front pairing. don't think many defences would like those two zipping about goal. Think Forrest would be terrific up top and would create more space and assists.

Having viewed the Croatian midfielder were supposedly interested in - I can't say that he looked a catch, especially when you consider how the midfield positions are already crowded. Hoping the Villa bid is true as Johansen is a shadow of the player he was last year. And let's face it we've got a habit of dismissing decent bids and hoping the player returns to form - let's cash in and get ourselves a decent striker, the one playing in the MLS looks to have potential and would jump at the chance of playing with Celtic and taking part in the CL.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

21 Jan 2016 15:41:16
i'd personally keep stefan, he still has the best parts of his career ahead of him. Has progressed at a great rate over the last 3/ 4 years in his career. Have some faith that the current dip is just temporary.

Agree3 Disagree0

21 Jan 2016 16:49:04
I agree edinbhoy the lad has suffered some drop in forum I agree but he is not playing in his normal role and has been carrying little injuries mainly as I am aware to his back.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2016 17:36:31
If we sign him, I can only imagine we are preparing to part with one or two midfielders - as if you include the injured Brown, Christie - who has not played yet, or Allen and GMS who are on the fringes, we are more than well covered in the middle of the park.
We really need to add or improve our defence, wide options and we need better than Ciftci or Cole to help Griffiths and the new guy.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2016 18:22:19
Edinbhoy, not trying to be smart, but where did you see him over the last 3/ 4 yrs?
I saw him at Strom--- sorry about the spelling. NL I think saw someting, but not ( my opinion) anything that would seem 5/ 7 million sell on, flog him now,

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2016 18:53:32
@malika well you certainly aren't pulling it off anyway.

I don't see where in my post I mentioned he looked like a 5-7m pound player 3/ 4 years ago. I clearly was referring to his career progression, not his potential in the past. My point is that the overall trend is that he has improved massively since 3/ 4 years ago, perhaps even longer. His form this season has dropped, not as far as some seem to think in my opinion, but still it has dropped. However if you take a longer period than just a few months then this is just a dip. Why not back our players to get through a tough period? I would back him to be a better player in the future than the next 2/ 3m signing we make!

If we got rid of players that played poorly for a few months we wouldn't see the current benefits of biton, rogic and even mcgregor has been backed by he manager in a new position and is showing up superbly.

Agree1 Disagree2

21 Jan 2016 20:25:05
It's difficult to know what we think is happening, at times Lawwell is blamed for breaking the arm of anyone who offers money for any of our players . Other times he is accused of turning down decent bids .
Johansson should be kept, if we can, he was our best player last season and although his form has dropped he doesn't deserve the abuse and ridicule he has had to listen to from the stands and read from forums .
We need our real supporters to get behind him, back him, encorage him and rebuild his confidence . I think it's easier to get a top class Celtic footballer out of Johansson than to buy one and train him up.

Agree0 Disagree1

21 Jan 2016 08:35:53
Not posted on here in a while, but saw the rumours with regards to Stefan Johansen being subject to interest from Aston Villa. I think the £5m reported is way off the mark, but would be interested to see if you would keep the bhoy here in the hope he has a better third season than second (see Kris Commons) .

Personally when Brown gets back into the team, Brown and Bitton at central mid, with Allan/ Mcgregor/ Commons at Attacking mid would be my preference. A Johansen from last season would be my first pick for that position, but not on current form.

Ed: Any update on Elyounoussi?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - There's nothing new to add about Elyounoussi, I'd be surprised if a deal is done in this window. No Rogic in your team?}

21 Jan 2016 14:21:46
I'll be honest I had someone nipping my head in work as I wrote that and totally forgot about rogic. I blame our abundance of midfielders!

Rogic I think is an absolute baller and is benefitting from more game time. Would be fuming if he went to Leeds for a million, think he has the potential to become a very good player for us.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - The way he's progressed and been playing recently Rogic, when he's fit, would be one of the first names I'd have on my team sheet.}

21 Jan 2016 15:18:23
I wasn't sure about Rogic at the start although he undoubtedly has the skill, I wasn't sure about his strength on the ball and stamina.
However, he is definitely improving with games and we would be crazy to let him leave at all - never mind for a mere million.
Given the ludicrous valuations and transfer fees down south, we have to ensure that, if and when we do sell anyone - we price according to the market value of the bidding source and comparisons.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2016 15:23:03
Ed, Is there much in the SJ to villa do you know?

I can see why they are progressing the young Croat as we don't have an out and out CDM that's why a think we are getting caught out in europe a proper CDM ain't venturing really beyond the half way line IMO

Brown is not a CDM neither is Biton

A have said this before the best game I ever seen SJ play was in a Norway strip against England where he played a really deep / anchor CDM

And if SJ is not getting a new contract surely Rogic must be first on the list for one?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - There's a few EPL teams shown interest in Johansen, WBA and Norwich have watched him recently, as well as the long term interest from Germany but the club have repeatedly said he is not for sale and as far as I know there's been no bids made for him.
Johansen's been offered a new deal but nothing's been signed and talks are ongoing, there's talks planned with Rogic's agent that may have started already, I don't know.}

21 Jan 2016 16:10:58
Cheers Ed, that particular paper a take with a pinch of salt (SJ/ Villa) I solely expected a few EPL clubs to take an interest after the way he performed against England but they headlines never came if am honest

When Rogic gets to the level he can play a full 90 mins he going to be even better my uncle coached him @ a high level in Oz and ranted about him (y)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I don't know when they played England but Man City and Roma were in for Johansen before we signed him. The cynical amongst us might have a hunch that Johansen was recommended by our Chief Executive's son.}

21 Jan 2016 16:46:41
Start of Sept 14 that game SJ charged down everything to the extent I think England had only one shot on target!

That Man City link with PL's boy none of us had a clue about that until you brought it to our attention but it has bore fruit Ed in particular Biton, Denayer was a success now Boyata too

I spoke to Norwegianred about Cellini and I would like him now for cover LG now Stokes away Ciftci ain't got it IMO and we knew that before he signed

Man City also have a reserve Norwegian GK who is a doppelganger for Fraser Forster but really want Fasan to get a chance (y)

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2016 19:07:35
don't know if it's just me folks but the more i see of rogic the more I see similarities with Paul mcstay ' I'm not saying he's anywhere as good as him but just the way he carries himself on the pitch, excellent potential in this boy, def one to keep for few years yet.

I see the SFA have not grown in competency. Just read about their proposal to introduce a draft system and must say it has to be one of the most ridiculous things they have came up with yet.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

21 Jan 2016 14:04:09
Yip sounds a load of nonsense to me too! the other day they wanted to waste 4 million to catch a couple of young guys with a flare there losing the plot surely that money if it was made available could be better spent elsewhere!

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2016 08:04:58
I see villa are apparently ready to bid £5 million for johansen. would you take the money or keep the player?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

21 Jan 2016 08:32:20
I would sell him as long as we got a fair price - I'd be trying for around the £7 million mark. He's out of contract next summer and for me he is neither a holding midfielder or a no 10. A 433 would suit him better! Also if you look at him in Europe he's been very average, especially in the qualifiers both years! He should have scored away to Maribor, and put us 3-0 up against Malmo. He seems to lack a bit of nerve on the big stage! Even that huge game for Norway recently - he was voted the worst player in their team! How in the name of God can you judge a player against a Hamilton! As long as we reinvest the money I'd sell any of our players!

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2016 08:46:36
If we are offered £5m for Stefan Johansen we must bite their hand off, he hasn't kicked a ball or looked remotely interested this season, we are well equipped in the attacking midfield position, take the money and spend it on a holding midfielder and winger / striker .

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Jan 2016 09:33:48
Personally i think a deal is more or less been agreed. No coincidence we are close to signing a midfielder and possibly another.

Agree2 Disagree0

21 Jan 2016 09:36:39
Sell him now,5 million is a great price, but push for more.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2016 09:40:41
Johansen is good at closing down opponents and - unlike a good few of our midfield - he can put a tackle in and has bags of energy.
I agree he has not been as good as last season, but even under par, he usually puts in a shift and links the play very well.
I think the manager obviously rates him and if he is unsettled, or deemed surplus and we sell, I a;so doubt the whole fee will be allocated on a replacement or two?

Agree3 Disagree0

21 Jan 2016 11:25:49
Rogic can maybe kick on and hold a reg place. Get Johannson on the next plane.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2016 11:29:06
Doesn't take a genius to realuse he hasn't been at his best this term but I do think he has been over criticised. With the time on his contract, and a gut feeling that we are just a stepping stone for him now or the summer might be the correct time. I'd want a wee bit more than 5m but again, would we see the majority of that spent on a single player? Very much doubt it.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2016 12:01:13
I'd sell him. If the new lad signs that's us coming close to our 2m I expected us to spend. We still need to improve the squad and having that extra 5m+ means there can be no excuses not to.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2016 12:06:54
That's it for me JJ: he is a threat both attacking (tho too often this term he's let rip prematurely . . . and there's no excuses for *that*) and he hounds the player on the ball and let's them know he's there. Not for 5 million, in my view.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2016 12:14:04
Keep him form is temporary class is permanent.

Agree3 Disagree0

21 Jan 2016 10:17:34
If the rumours are true, I think it's best for the club and player to part ways. There is obviously some issues in the background that are preventing him playing at the level we saw and enjoyed last year. And let's face it £5M isn't a great deal from a club playing in the EPL - we should hopefully drive the fee up a million or two.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2016 10:30:44
People always say it's great to have players who can play different positions, more importantly for me is having players you can put your life on, and make a position their own, a position they are confident playing. In the holding midfield role we only have Biton and Brown! Johanssen and Mulgrew, also McGregor are players who no-one knows what their best position is! In front of them we have guys like Rogic, Allan, Christie, Commons, Forrest, GMS and Armstrong who are somewhere between a winger, a no 10 and an attacking midfielder! Even Cifti isn't an out and out striker! We need to sort this out big time!

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jan 2016 20:36:29
I honesty don't know what Johanson has done to rattle so many cages . Undoubtedly player of year last season and also without doubt his form has dropped some what this season . However Bitton has survived a poor season and came out smiling . Commons can be rank rotten standing around as a passenger, yet he can spring into action scoring a goal and setting up a chance and he becomes a favourite of most . Celtic fans should realise how hard it is to sign a good Celtic player and how hard it is to keep a good one if we have got it . We should support Stefan and encourage him back to form .
