Fed up with the window so led me to thinking about fond memories. First ever game. Firhill with my Great uncle peter shouting at Danny Crainie taking a corner. Don’t remember the score! .

I really cannot remember my first game. All I remember is being told by a mate to stand outside the North enclosure and somebody will lift you over. Straight to the Jungle as a young'un and never looked back. Seen some great games and some not so great games. The days of mega crowds that were then reported in the rags as being 37 or 38 thousand. Bollox! At least 60 thousand at some games!

Too true BigRab, my old geography teacher worked
The turnstiles and he said they only counted 87 for every 100 through the gate to save costs on policing etc. Dundee centenary year comes To mind as a prime example of that.

Wullie Gardiner debut game. Remember everyone on the BUS winding me up saying a was a jinx. I only went to the game for the roll on chop pork. One for the older supporter.

St Patrick day massacre in the old jungle with my old man and my brother. Spent most of the game facing the crowd and being picked up by random fans and thrown about when we scored, great day!

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2018 10:55:19
In the Jungle with my big brother. Beat St Mirren 5-2; Neilly Mochan got a hat trick!
It's been magic ever since . even in the bad times!

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2018 11:14:06
My first game was against East Fife where I spent more time looking at the crowd. I had gone on the local supporters bus with my pals big brother. I was lifted over for years until a guy I asked to lift me over said, son you could lift we over. I was 23 to be fair. :)

For years stood near tunnel 7 in the jungle with my pals and went home and away for years. Like most have had fabulous times and some dark ones. The Murray goading us left a feeling of we will someday turn the tables and crush them.

Travelled all over Europe and was at the game in Seville which was my proudest moment, not just for how we fought, but for how our people supported our team. I was proud of every last one of them.

It’s not just a team, it’s a cause, as our beloved Tommy said. HH.

Sorry to say I can't remember the opponent, result or date, but I know it was in 1962 when I was 6. Got a lift over the turnstyle, papped down the very front of the Jungle, where there was a white wall the wee boys sat on and the 'revolving' polis barkin at us to keep our legs on the terracing side of the wall.
I was overwhelmed by the crowd, noise and singing and how close I was to the players and at half time the auld man brought me down a cauld pie that I had to dip in his bovril to heat-up and a lollipop - using the stick to write C E L T I C in the ash track.
Remember I ran onto the edge of the pitch at full time because every other kid was doing it - got a scowl form a grumpy constable and a clout on the ear from my Da who had came down to collect me.

Celtic v Leeds United, European Cup at Hampden. They say there was 120,000 there. Beat Leeds 2-1 after Billy Bremner scored. The great leeds united, we beat them Home and Away.

Hello, I have to say this transfer window is getting pretty desperate. There doesn’t seem to be any solid stories out there and time is running out. I’m sure Ed will keep us posted if there’s anything with substance though!?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I'll do my best mate.}

21 Aug 2018 22:38:45
I was hoping that would force an exclusive there ed. Had to change the user name as forgot details for the last one😌dementia’s setting in again!

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It's been really difficult to find anything out this summer.}

21 Aug 2018 20:11:01
Hey, sorta newcomer to the group (posted a couple of times under a different name) but always a daily reader of the page. With our desperate need for a defender, was there ever any follow up made on the South African guy Rivaldo Coetzee from last year who's medical showed up something on his knee?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

21 Aug 2018 20:30:16
I think I read some other SA team bought him then he got a bad knee injury before playing a game for them!

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 20:33:19
Don't think he had kicked a ball since his transfer after we dropped our interest.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 20:36:10
He nearly had to retire due to the injury.
Apparently he has just started full training again after about
A year out so if the injury is fine then we may look at his m again in January.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 20:37:50
He’s not kicked a ball since he failed his Celtic medical Stevie.

21 Aug 2018 21:08:10
Cheers! definitely don't think mckenna is the answer! We should be looking a bit further than Aberdeen.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 21:14:41
Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland are just a wee bit farther that Aberdeen and there must be a decent Scandinavian defender/ midfielder that would be well within our budget? Gie Ronnie a phone lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 17:59:25
ED007 what is the TRUE story about McKenna of Aberdeen, I just cannot see us targeting a player who is a) injured and b) willing to pay an inflated price for a bang averge player.
Give us your insight please.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - There's definitely interest but I'm not sure there's any truth in the stories going round about a bid have being made. He wouldn't be my first choice but I'm really hoping that he isn't our main CB target, and it's a worry that it's taken us until now to make a move for a player on our own doorstep.
The fact he's injured doesn't bother me too much, he'll be back in 3/4 weeks.}

21 Aug 2018 20:49:42
I hope that this is just a bad dream and not true, for me this would be a totally underwhelming signing. If this guy is the sum of our ambition it won’t help with getting some of the disgruntled fans back on side. Surely we can find a better option?

Agree2 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 21:28:06
We have been dominating and often destroying Scottish defenses for seven years and the last foray into SPFL standard centre half has caused more problems than solved - so far?
McKenna is clearly a cop-out and step backwards IMO.
If it's true, then who will it be next? Efe Ambrose and Darren O'Dea.

Agree2 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 17:03:40
We should get in for machriso from Juventus 32 year old not bad player has become a free agent as of today so I've been told, need some fresh experience in the team need to get someone through the door soon and Boyata out can't see that man Wearing the hoops again! HH.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - He's out until November(ish) with a knee injury.}

Perfect signing for us. Already injured into the bargain so saves him getting injured just after joining us!

Agree2 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 19:29:58
Get him signed up he can join Comper and McKenna on the treatment table. I think we are going for injured elevens Make a team out of them.

Been a while since I posted.
I see a player in young Hendry
He reminds me of John Stones when he first broke through at Everton. same mistakes
Look at him now, World Cup was excellent and last game with City, world class.
Hendry has talent and needs supporting
Obviously the manager' who has delivered two trebles in a row, rated him enough to buy and continues to start him.
Start cheering for the kid!

Believable4 Unbelievable1

21 Aug 2018 16:28:21
John stones world class? 😂😂.

Agree3 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 16:38:31
He also bought GoCompare. His record at Liverpool defensively was utterly dire. Hendry is 24, he just isn’t good enough. BRENDAN needs to up his game and go for proven ability rather than risking 8iar.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 16:53:43
It’s bad enough you said John Stones is world class but you see a player in Hendry is laughable

No harm to the boy he tried and has failed to step up

Hopefully these McKenna rumours ain’t true cause he’s just at the same level as Hendry imo.

Agree2 Disagree1

21 Aug 2018 17:46:14
Surely it can't be, but reading how some people go out of their way to ridicule some of our players who for whatever reason are struggling in the team, and thus destroy their confidence, but it often appears to me that instead of being Celtic supporters who would encourage the team, all players, they are Celtic haters.
Now I don't think they know how much they are sabotaging the team and so they are just ignorant and don't understand what supporting a team involves.

Agree2 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 17:59:05
OMC sure you will be supporting Boyata’s return then

Like everyone I can support and slag who I want and if your not happy then tough 💩.

21 Aug 2018 22:12:19
Boyata is done, it’s as simple as that! I will not support this rat! Really don’t know what Brendan’s thinking about by the way! I pray to god the interest from abroad is real and we get shot of this clown asap!

21 Aug 2018 15:26:05
I remember a centre/ right back that was on loan to Fulham last season, from Chelsea called Tomas Kalas who is a 25 yr old Czech International. Does anyone think he would be worth a punt - or loan if all else fails?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

21 Aug 2018 16:58:07
Would be Andreas Christensen (spelling) I’d want if anyone from Chelsea looked good as a kid and had some good games on loan at Broussia.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 17:48:10
Surely Chelsea would have a centre half they don't need . Nothing could possibly go wrong with a loan from Chelsea.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 18:37:04
I just 'googled' the Chelsea squad for 2018/ 19 and they certainly could spare a defender - although the Musonda fiasco might deter some.

Eds just wondering are the team flying out today or morra for the game?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Tomorrow.}

21 Aug 2018 12:41:47
Afternoon bhoys and ghirls. Not posted for a while, hope you are all well. We keep hearing of the undoubted wealth of our major shareholder Mr Desmond, and I've often thought, given his staunch love of our club, to give our manager a lift, why not give him say 50 million, and take it back from the club over the years. Would that be feasible? Thought's guy's.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - We would fail FFP and face sanctions from UEFA.}

21 Aug 2018 13:11:12
Thanks for the info Ed. If that was the case, would there be ways and means of getting around that problem?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - DD could put money in as long as it isn't over (off the top of my head) 30 million Euros over 3 years
Clubs like Man City are propped up by sponsorship deals with their owners for obscene amounts of money. Their Etihad deal is worth about £35 - 40 million a year

21 Aug 2018 13:22:33
Then why haven't Rangers? 🤔.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Their debt is to shareholders and the board.

Clubs can spend up to €5million more than they earn per assessment period (three years). However it can exceed this level to a certain limit, if it is entirely covered by a direct contribution/payment from the club owner(s) or a related party. This prevents the build-up of unsustainable debt.

The limits are:
• €45m for assessment periods 2013/14 and 2014/15
• €30m for assessment periods 2015/16, 2016/17 and 2017/18

In order to promote investment in stadiums, training facilities, youth development and women’s football (from 2015), all such costs are excluded from the break-even calculation.

21 Aug 2018 13:32:41
Cheers for that Ed. Saying that, 30 million eurso would come in a hell of a handy lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - We could get 3 Scott McKennas with that 😁

21 Aug 2018 13:35:08
Why do people not call for every share holder to put in their hard earn savings?

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 13:46:05
Or Morelos lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - 😂

21 Aug 2018 14:35:50
Only one Morelos now as he is the best striker ever to have played the noble game. If he scores on Thursday he will be worth more than Agueroooooooooooooo.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 12:09:13
Here is what I think should be happening over new signings.
It looks like Brendan will welcome Boyata back into the team, barring a biggish offer from Turkey or Spain.
So, as ED007 keeps saying, we will not make another defender signing, in this summer window, UNLESS Boyata is sold, and surely this McKenna rumour is a non starter for a player out injured with a bad hamstring injury.
In defence we will then have Boyata, Gamboa, Hendry, Ajer, Simonovic, Tierney and Izzy. Our midfield looks strong also and as long as we keep Eduoard, Dembele and Griffiths fit our forward line is strong.
No Rodgers and the board, should be targeting players to bring in JANUARY, and get them upto speed for next season's CL qualifiers.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

21 Aug 2018 12:40:50
Don’t hold your breath. We should have done that last January and we went cheap with two guys who should never have been bought. Nit their fault and I feel sorry for Hendry, but much worse for us as his part in our CL exit and his pathetic attempt to tackle the Thistle player shows he is nowhere near the level we need.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 12:41:13
Tim I think we need one more for midfield if ntcham or brown got injured i think we're in trouble.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 12:53:32
What I don't understand is if Fulham did offer us £9m then why didn't we sell him? Doesn't make any sense to me.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 13:08:22
The 'goalposts' keep changing according to what rumour or theory you read and this would mean BR being made to change his original stance of needing to replace the two players we lost in summer and sign a centre half - apparently we were looking at one or two?
Boyata is part of the reason we are out of the CL and I reckon many supporters will not be as forgiving as those settling for such an easy fix with a player who clearly wants to be elsewhere.
I am still of the opinion, we have the best group of players domestically, but allowing for injuries, World Cup 'fatigue' and other form issues, we have been under par recently apart from the first 44 minutes against AEK at Celtic Park and the last 15 minutes at Firhill, where we played as we could/ should.
There has definitely been disappointment already this window and even one quality signing now could lift moral going into a tricky period where further set-backs or failure could be very damaging?

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 17:24:17
If Brown or Ntcham get injured we are in trouble.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 09:15:19
This McKenna news is not the best. He is no better than what we already have. If the other news of Bruma is true then we should be doing all we can to get him. Great experience in club and international football. He would help bring Hendry and Ajer on leaps and bounds.

Also Ed do you know if there is anything in the Chirivella transfer or is it just the media.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - We are definitely interested in Pedro Chirivella and according to Ed002 it'll be a permanent move if it happens.}

21 Aug 2018 12:29:16
Cheers Ed the boy looks a player. 🍀💚.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I don't really know that much about him, Nicky.}

21 Aug 2018 12:42:32
It must be hard getting info from Celtic these days but how come it takes the Liverpool ed to do it does this mean Liverpool are weaker in that department or do they not care that much about this possible signing?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Ed002 isn't a Liverpool Ed and is friends with people at the very highest levels of football. Liverpool have already accepted a £3.5 million bid from Rosenborg for Chirivella but the player turned down the move so it's common knowledge that his team at Liverpool is at an end.}

21 Aug 2018 13:19:40
Reading the players profile it seems he's a DM player which we have in brown and Kouassi don't see the need for a DM right now strange one for me?

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 10:27:30
Is the game on Thursday televised?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

21 Aug 2018 11:40:31
Celtic tv has it.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 12:37:11
Hopefully BT will show it. I don’t know if I could suffer Tom Boyds non stop warbling a whole load of piss for the entire game. Plus it avoids links stalling which is infuriating. Come on BT!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Premier Sports are showing it.}

21 Aug 2018 12:52:28
I already pay for BT so would rather they stepped up. Is it still a tenner?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I've no idea mate.}

21 Aug 2018 13:58:40
Hi Ed, you know if you can use premier sports outside UK? Will be on road in France.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I don't know but you'll get CelticTV over there easy enough.}

21 Aug 2018 17:58:24
Anyone who would have the like of the McCoist person laughing at us instead of one of our life time greats needs to take a good look at himself.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 18:41:08
Wind your neck in Superfan. Unless it’s still buried up Lawells arse that is. Celtictv is totally amateurish, and yes, as co commentator, I would rather listen to Quint dragging his nails down that blackboard in jaws that Tom.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 09:43:41
Put mildly, I'm very underwhelmed with Scott McKenna looking like our most likely CB target. If he takes Hendry's place I'd say that's definitely an improvement but we're flooding the team with inexperience. Boyata's future is still up in the air and even if he stays, I'm not 100% convinced he'll bring his good WC form back here, especially given the carry on with his agent etc.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

21 Aug 2018 10:11:20
McKenna is Injured plus the ss will want a big fee they were quoting Swansea into double figures after they sold mawson for silly money. so expect a saga if the story is true which I am not convinced of.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 10:11:40
I can’t say my fear about our defence is eased with McKenna. Let’s hope we get someone better. There’s that word hope again.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 10:11:58
Don't think he's better than Hendry and he's injuried as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 10:21:07
Scott McKenna seriously! This is the same Scott McKenna that’s part of a defence who we routinely pump and so do sevco! If true then I have no words for how bad our scouting is! Went paid over a million for a diddy from Dundee, now probably treble that for a diddy from Aberdeen! I’m sure I remember Brendan Saying the words we’re only looking to bring quality in! Only us could be desperate for a centre half and think that signing an injured one from Aberdeen is a good idea! It’s just gets better honestly!

Agree2 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 10:43:28
For once I agree with you Lavie Heed. McKenna may look good at Aberdeen but it would be no where near the calibre of big Jef Bruma. Celtic must pursue Bruma he will add class and grit to the backline.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 11:04:32
Just because we pump a team doesn’t mean all of their players are terrible?

McKenna looks more like a proper CB but he should probably have been signed instead of Hendry. Whereas now it would appear we’re replacing Boyata with another young player.

I reckon the club are keeping tabs on him and would prefer him to have another year at Aberdeen but have maybe been forced into trying to get him this window because of other options falling through or maybe they didn’t expect Boyata to leave.

Agree0 Disagree1

21 Aug 2018 11:30:58
McKenna only broke into the ss team half way through last season although am not 100o% sure,

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 12:13:04
If the interest is genuine would not be shocked to see us offer them Allan and Christie. We won't be going anywhere near Aberdeens valuation, not even half of it.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 12:16:24
ok Lavie Heed I don’t agree with you. Although our opinion is similar in Surely we should be looking at better quality than McKenna.

Also yes Kev I did call him Lavie Heed because he’s full a rubbish.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 12:33:45
If we go for McKenna, then I never want to hear anyone at Celtic ever speak again about our aspirations to be a CL club or have ambition to be one. That’s clearly a lie if we go for him.

So, knowing Lawell’s abject inability to actually spend for real quality, he will be signed. Real quality must have gone down a notch. Just like our hopes. I wish I could say you couldn’t make it up, but we all know that’s the SP of all our boards. Cowards and risk averse cheapskates.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Aug 2018 12:43:55

The people on here who support Brendan Rodgers and have no problem blaming the Board for our centre backs need to remember that Brendan bought in his centre backs in January . The Board could not be expected to keep providing funds for the same positions especially until some had been sold .

I seen that we are being linked with Scott McKenna. I don’t think he is any better than what we have at the moment and I think we need a RB a CB and a attacking midfielder.

I really thought the unnecessary CL exit would have jolted the Board/ scouts into overdrive to address the lack of quality and experience we have in these key areas, before the EL games.
However, knowing our clubs history of dithering, haggling and bargain basement, last minute loans and stop-gaps, I am worried we will not improve the squad sufficiently to satisfy the manager and support. Additionally, the fringe players that are not in BR's plans should have been punted by now to release funds instead of paying guys - eating up cash resources - to sit in the stands.

Give yourself peace Kev, a blind midget would be better than Hendry at centre half.

Brendan Rodgerrs is an expert, us amateurs need to respect his expert opinion& fully support his judgement . We must welcome McKenna if he comes, and support him and encourage him to have a wonderful career with Celtic.
