Griffiths bashing is amongst us it seems.While I admit the guy has serious issues let's put into perspective. zidane (headbutt) Cantona ( assault) Maradona (drugs) Black (betting against own team lol) I and yourselves could name countless others who have been reprehensible, all of these players went on to continue playing with their teams. Griffiths is an angel considerin the others so let's give the guy a break.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Zinedine Zidane (Headbutting an opponent during a match) - Retired from football after the WC final and was banned by FIFA for three matches for red card. He agreed to complete three days of community service with children in one of FIFA's humanitarian projects.

Eric Cantona (Assaulting a fan during a match) - Cantona was arrested and convicted for assault and sentenced to 2 weeks in prison which was overturned in the appeal court to 120 hours of community service. Manchester United suspended Cantona and fined him £20,000. The FA increased the ban to eight months and fined him a further £10,000

Diego Mradona - 1991: Suspended for 15 months in following a positive test for cocaine while playing for Napoli.

1994: Sent home from the 1994 World Cup in the US a drugs test for ephedrine, banned for 15 months.

1998: Handed a suspended jail sentence for shooting journalists with an air rifle four years earlier.

Ian Black - Banned for 10 matches, 7 of them suspended.

Leigh Griffiths - Nothing to see here. He's never set a foot wrong but if he played for Sevco we would all take great delight in dissecting his many crimes and misdemeanours. Any punishment he has had so far or in the future is completely unfounded and is only because he signed for CFC. If you EVER say anything against him you aren't a real supporter and aren't allowed to class yourself as a member of the #celticfamily or use the hashtag #becauseceltic on social media. Every mistake Griffiths has made is all down to him being a 'daft boy'.

You should apply to run his f

Wasn't defending him ed just tryin to put thing in perspective, as I said he has real issues and has to get a grip but I just not into castigating the guy.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - To put things in perspective how many times has he made the wrong kind of headlines and dragged the name of the club through the mud in less than 3 months of being here? And that's without bringing up his previous. You can hardly compare the Zidane headbutt, that happened during the course of a match against another player.}

Rayman, the thing with social media is we are all entitled to an opinion.

Griffiths is young ish so he knows the script with mobile phones with cameras and videos etc. He knows how twitter, and forums work better than folk in their 30's and over.

What he did was incredibly stupid and can be disciplinary matter in many jobs. I don't want to see him sacked and did find the booing a bit uncomfortable but I don't have any problem celebrating a Celtic goal, it's probably a natural reaction anyway.

I've went full circle I think with social media, when I first started using this site it was a bit of banter, good gossip, moan about performances etc then I'd get flustered about others opinion, take it dead serious but I'm back to just enjoying the banter and goss and respecting others views and opinions. There are too many Celtic fans to get them all to agree, we aren't clones (thankfully).

I could write a book about the contradictions I've seen on social media lol eg. wrestlemania the other week - 'why is my timeline full of folk tweeting about f***in wrestling' - eh because it's on the telly and you are very, very obviously following folk that like it.

Agree0 Disagree0

I've seen more than a few Celtic fans saying Griffiths was abusive towards fans at the front of the away stand for booing him at Fir Park on Saturday, before coming on + scoring then cupping his ears at the away support. I was disgusted hearing fellow Celtic fans chanting "Leigh Griffiths sings what he wants" as well, some seem to have lost their way in what made our club different from others if they now think it's acceptable to back people like him!

Agree0 Disagree0

Leigh Griffiths is a daft wee boy who will be given some coaching on how to behave at Celtic and he will also be told quietly that any other kind of behaviour like this and he is out. Now, Stokes is in court for assault on an Elvis impersonator, and I am sure there have been a few others and yet we are all quite happy with him. Please don't all dive on the band wagon about how our club came from refugee's etc, that was a long time ago and while it is a history to be celebrated should it be used to beat someone who sings a daft song. I agree his behaviour isn't becoming of a Celtic player but he will not have been used to this kind of scrutiny and living in the goldfish bowl that is Celtic is unbearable for some people. We have seen great players come to Celtic and flop because they can't handle all the external pressures on them BUT Griffiths on the pitch is a real asset and that is beyond doubt. Let the club deal with him, let him learn and you know what, give him a chance to right the wrongs he has done. I am sure he isn't happy with what he has done and I am sure he would love nothing more than to play for Celtic in the CL so maybe instead of the constant bashing a little support might help him settle and realise that he is playing for a huge club and that he needs to behave accordingly!

Agree0 Disagree0

If he is as great a player that everyone keeps saying when it was clear that wolves didn't want him why didn't any championship relegation battlers in prem or even any other league 1 teams want him as I keep saying only hibs and celtic where even remotely interested explain that

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - If Hibs could have came up with £700k he would be a Hibs player, they were always his first choice. It was only when it became clear Hibs couldn't come up with the money his agent opened talks with CFC. That's why it was a deadline day deal him and his agent were hoping Hibs could do something with Wolves money wise.}

Think I’ve had my wee say on the Griffiths situation, I totally understand why this is wrong and indefensible.

Got agree with some of Ally’s comments, the moral ship where most football Clubs are concerned sailed a very long time ago.

I don’t want to see him sacked and education is the way forward. Anyone who thinks a charitable man like Brother Walfrid would have judged someone like Griffiths obviously misunderstands. A Club open to all also includes sinners (for want of a better word) in my eyes. Yeah, we condemn the singing of songs such as the famine song – quite rightly, it is highly offensive and this is just as bad but education is the way.

Some singing the famine song equally do not understand what they are singing (although some do). I would even bet my last £1 some singing it are from Irish descent.

Agree0 Disagree0

@Mrs E spot on, anyone here never sang these type of songs when they were young? I know I did. Different times I know but cast the first stone and all that lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - That's just another mundane, overused and pathetic excuse that's up there (down there?) with the 'he's a daft boy' gibberish. The Scottish Refugee Council have described Griffiths' actions as 'raw racism'.
October 2012: Celtic manager Neil Lennon - 'any form of racist behaviour against colour, religion, background will be an instant sackable offence'. He also said he personally has a 'zero tolerance policy' and that Celtic are an open club and always have been.
So either NL is a liar or the standards at the club have dropped so dramatically under Lawwell's & Lennon's tenure that supporters now find racism acceptable and will scrape any barrel they can find to make excuses for it as long as it's one of our players.
But woe betide any Sevco fans who sing The Famine Song, you can always rely on the #celticfamily for a good dose of double standards. What do you think managers like Stein, Mc'Neill or MON would say?
I also wonder what the Czech born Twardzik brothers think of their new team mate or has everyone forgotten we have Czech players at the club?}

The Clubs standards dropped the moment they became a professional Club many moons ago. We've had guys on £40k a week which would feed half the east end of Glasgow and is more than the joint income that a large percentage of Celtic fans have - funnily nobody was moaning then.

If your life is defined by a faceless hashtag such as #celticfamily then we need to unplug the broadband

Agree0 Disagree0

@rayman what utter nonsense you talk. Do you think if griffiths was employed by say the police, he would still be in a job after his actions? But its okay, he plays for celtic! A wee slap on the wrist and everything will be right as rain.

Would be a totally different story if it was something derogatory towards celtic, you would be first one calling for his head!

You (like lennon)obviously think it is acceptable to promote racism

Been away for the weekend with Mrs T and the girls and my 2 year old nephew, weather was great and we all had a great time.
I do not normally buy papers but because of the time on my hands I foolishly bought both DR and Sunday Mail, and I could not believe the dross of serialisation of that clown McMurdo's book on Jock Wallace, the book seemed to glory in the sectarian aspects of the team at that time, and the captain was apparently picked if he could sing the Sash, sad sad sad, but as usual this book is aimed at the lowest common denominator among Sevco fans but shame on those papers for printing excerpts from it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Let's not kid on here, this attitude ran right through the now dead club.The sad thing is that they had a chance to leave this baggage behind them but played this ludicrous same club card. As for mcmurdo? A great one for claiming he is no bigot but it clearly permeates most articles he blogs

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Isn't his father that wrote the book?}

ED007: Shows you how much I know about the tabloids! No surprise there then as we all know exactly what his fathers opinions were. I assumed it was the younger as I thought his old man had vanished along with the club he followed.

The Wallace era was based on this kind of thing.A 'real' rangers man at that time was a cover for being a sectarian sash wearing Irish hating bigot.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - To be honest I don't know I just thought his father would have been nearer the age who really appreciate Wallace's twisted 'ideals'.}

21 Apr 2014 22:28:32
ED007/GJ yes the book was written by McMurdo senior, him of the red white and blue house and lamposts outside his house etc.
I cannot see any legitimate reason for writing this book now about events 30 years ago other than to make money from poor gullible Sevco fans harking back to their "glory" days

As someone who attended the European Cup tie with Athletico Madrid, a truly shocking night at Celtic Park, I never thought I would say this but I am warming to them.

I read yesterday about the fantastic work ethic laid down by their manager, hard training and running teams ragged with fast accurate passing, and was very impressed. Today I saw facts and figures relating to the CL semi finalists and the financial disadvantage they have.It is truly warming to see a team who are well coached in with a shout of winning this.

As an added bonus they will have to dispose of the truly classless Chelsea and the massive ego that is Jose! Maybe football might return to the people instead of what it has become, a rich man, s plaything.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

GJ, I'm not old enough to remember the match v Ath Madrid.

The current squad are really hard working, they don't score a lot of goals but their work rate is massive.

I'd be happy with a Chelsea defeat. I don't know what's going on with Mourinho, he's getting worse as he gets older. Seen Noel Gallagher talking about him last week saying he used to like him and now he's just an 'ungrateful cheat'

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Apr 2014 18:23:42
GJ sorry pal I don't often disagree with you but this time I do, I will not even mention THAT team they kicked us all over the park and wee Jimmy was assaulted the whole game, cheats then, cheats now, cheats forever in my eyes.
Mrs E you are lucky you never witnessed these thugs, and even that name is not strong enough for that team, I hate Mourinho's Chelsea (no class either) but the Spanish mob no no no, my ideal results would be both teams to be disqualified.
Football Fair Play must be the winner at all times.

Agree0 Disagree0

You might think I'm on having a dig here timalloy but really I'm not mate, it's just with comments like yours about a game that was played many years ago and folks like you are still harbouring a grudge against a team that's breaking the trend of the big twos domination in Spain struck a chord with me that attitudes of today are wrong wrong wrong mate no wonder there's so much hatred in the world when folk can't let go of the past and move on, just my opinion mate

@Falkirkbhoy this game made such an impression me for all the wrong reasons. I was brought up on the Lisbon Lions and our attacking style of play, but also our philosophy of fair play. To this day I will applaud any team that beats my team Celtic playing football.
I was still a teenager when this game took place in 1974 their manager was an Argentine as was half his team, but the cynical thing about this was he played almost a second string, but all of his "hatchet men" the coach did not even worry about players being banned for next leg as he had already planned to use his first team. This team got 3 sent off and 7 booked says it all.
No I cannot abide cheats and even to this day I feel like I was assaulted that night also as I was so angry and hurt by such cynical win at all costs tactics.
I will repeat what I said in another post, if Celtic ever stooped that low to win a game of football, no matter how important, I would never go back to Celtic Park again.
Even today I do not think a team like that can ever change it's philosophy, just look at Sevco as a prime example of cheating for decades.

Agree0 Disagree0

I still hold grudges against many clubs/players/managers/supporters such as Porto + Jose Mourinho for their cheating + dirty tactics/playacting during the 2003 UEFA Cup Final, El-Hadji Diouf for spitting on a Celtic fan when playing for Liverpool, Juve's Drughi ultras for stabbing numerous Celtic fans in Turin back in 2001. The list goes on, they're just a few that come to mind straight off the top of my head. I'm of the opinion that if you don't hold any grudges TheFalkirkBhoy then you're one of the few football fans who doesn't.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi hb my point is about a game played 40 years ago shouldn't be held against a team whom weren't even born then , point was purely on a football game matter nothing to do with stabbings or spitting incidents mate that's totally different matter altogether, timalloy does the comment about applauding any team include athletic Madrid as we'll? , my point is don't see any purpose in holding grudge against this very good athletic Madrid team

I would like to see us go for Cameroons Vincent Aboubakar who plays in Ligue 1 for FC Lorient. 6ft striker who is 2nd in the scoring charts on 16 goals with 5 assists scoring 1 more than Cavani at this stage of the season. I think he will be a cheaper option than Nick Powell and is a proven goalscorer in a better league than ours and the Championship. At 22 his stock is rising and could have a profit selling on in a few years time. Check him out

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Vincent Aboubakar is one of the strikers I mentioned a few months back. Can also play either wing, as well as up top. He's had a great season for Lorient and I can't imagine him costing us more than £4-5m, but my only concern is this maybe a one season wonder based on previous years?!

Agree0 Disagree0

Absolutely. He's one of a list of forwards I think we could/should sign. Got a bit of everything and the quality to be composed. Him and Imoh Ezekiel of Standard would do me just fine. It's off loading strikers as well though that I think we need to sort.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tbh, it doesn't really matter who we want to see signed. While Lennon is boss we're stuck with Stokes + Griffiths up front. We're to still see even a sneak peak of what Fridjonsson can (or can't) do 4 months after signing him!

Please please ed! Read the transfer rumour on the zombie page from clarkston bud! Better than the epl wages one lmfao

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I can't believe what I just read, nearly pee'd myself. Lampard and Terry were bad enough but he then goes on to suggest Hooper and wanyama as well. That cheered me up everyone should go read it.

Guys! This guy is quite obviously on the wind up or a total lunatic.He has posted on here many times and, without exception, it has been the stupidest most ridiculous things I have seen on here.

Why has the game this weekend on Sunday at 3pm?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Think it's because the 2014 remix team are at home on Saturday and our own fixture was only arranged a fortnight ago. DH
